ABOUT THE ARTIST As a child I was in love with Disney films… Snow White, Peter Pan, Dumbo and Bambi to name a few. I had books and coloring books from those movies. Years later when I went to art school, I began to realize the enormous effect those movies had on me. My abstract drawings and paintings had soft bulbous forms appearing in them. Most of the work looked like abstract backgrounds for those movies. Today, I still use abstracted images from children’s books to fill my sketchbook. I am a graduate of Barat College and the Art Institute of Chicago. My work has been shown in competitive and invitational exhibitions both national and international. Selected exhibitions include: the Chicago Cultural Center, Rockford Art Museum, South Bend Museum of Art, Davenport Museum of Art, Freeport Museum of Art, New Visions Museum, David Weinberg Gallery, Kraft Lieberman Gallery, Judith Racht Gallery, Wood Street Gallery, University of Illinois and Aurora University.

ARTIST STATEMENT Long before I became acquainted with Picasso, Miro or Matisse, I was fascinated by the Jetsons, Disney’s animated films and Dr. Seuss’ illustrations. Saturday mornings were reserved for cartoon shows and Sunday mornings were not complete without the comic strips. My paintings reflected the biomorphic shapes contained in these venues. Several years ago, I discovered that a genetic disorder, named Fragile X, lurked deep in my family history. In search of explanations, I was consumed with delving into medical books. The images I found there both fascinated and repelled me. At the same time, I saw a correlation to the organic and cartoony images that had become a part of my paintings. So I consciously made the medical illustrations a part of the images that I use to construct the drawings that ultimately become paintings. Although my paintings are developed with formal structure in mind and an emphasis on material and process, much of the imagery is gleaned from animated film and medical textbooks. So, as a critic once wrote, "It is not an accident that some of Kedzior's paintings resemble vivid, spongy and psychedelic landscapes that a space-age cartoon family might zoom through; or that others suggest Wassily Kandinsky meeting the Lava Lamp while watching a 1960’s educational film introducing youngsters to the wonders of the digestive system." The finished paintings stress color, texture and space through the use of traditional and nontraditional tools and printing techniques that include stencils, brushes, rollers, scrapers, masking and resist products.

THE SPATIAL SERIES

THE SPATIAL SERIES In this series of paintings, space, color, movement and organic shapes are utilized to suggest backgrounds, animals and people in animated films from my childhood. The films that particularly interested me were the Disney films with their soft rounded backgrounds and the animated bulbous shapes (think - the seven dwarfs).  The paintings are full of action and dramatic color contrasts. The strong bright hues will act as a focal point in any room and the curving shapes will move the viewers eye around the painting and out into the room, creating a rhythm between the art and furniture and stirring up excitement to make a room feel fresh.

THE GEOMETRY SERIES

THE GEOMETRY SERIES These mixed media paintings have a geometric base that the designs are built on. They have a sense of play and the images are gleaned from children’s books and coloring books. The books are often turned upside down so the images become abstracted and new curving bulbous images appear to me. They are created with acrylic, graphite and hand-colored collage papers and found papers.

THE PROCESS SERIES

THE PROCESS SERIES This group of paintings is all about the joyous process of painting. The paint was dripped and splattered in an exuberant dance to create both the background and foreground. While I'm painting, I listen to music that is exhilarating and upbeat. . Working in a quick intuitive manor, I let the process and rhythm lead me to suggest the final images. These paintings reflect what my mind looks like when music and painting come together.
