technologies and two individual sites onto a common operating platform. In addition to the usual video enabled Door/Gate Intercom connections, it was necessary to integrate the Public Address, telephone and mobile radio systems into the Intercom Server environment. The overall system was required to support central operation from a single Control Desk fitted with control monitors.

According to the operator‘s requirements, the new system had to display system messages and alerts in a clearly structured, easy-to-use layout. The Public Address system was required to support an efficient way of communicating relevant information instantly to all staff both inside and outside the power station buildings. This was to enable operators to decide quickly on appropriate measures as needed, and to make clear, easily understood voice announcements to everyone on the premises. Also as part of the project, the networking of the two sites had to provide multiple Door/Gate access control from a single location.
The Solution The core element of the installed solution is a GE 800 Intercom Server. Camera equipped Intercom Stations of the WS Series are connected to the server and installed at both sites to ensure secure, convenient access control. A G8-SELCALL interface card provides full two-way communication with the radio system. Also, the Public Address system for fire alarm messaging can be activated and deactivated via telephone. When the Control Desk is unattended, the G8-TEL interface card automatically forwards all incoming calls to the telephone system. The Public Address functionality was implemented by way of a G8-AUD plug-in card, 100 V amplifiers and 100 V loudspeakers. The solution of Albula-Landwasser Kraftwerke AG at a glance:
Short profile of Albula-Landwasser Kraftwerke AG Founded on 1 September 1961, the Albula-Landwasser Kraftwerke AG has its headquarters in Filisur in the Swiss canton of Grisons. With average water volume, the hydropower stations in Filisur and Tiefencastel have a combined annual capacity of around 389 GWh. This corresponds to approximately five per cent of the total annual electricity production in the entire canton of Grisons. In July 2011, the overall capacity of the power plant since startup amounted to 14,413 GWh. The Filisur facility is a high-pressure power station that is supplied by two penstock runs with a total combined length of 17.8 km.
