The seventh edition of the International Symposium on Lighting (ISoL2023), organised by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) on April 20-21, 2023 concluded on a high note. Saurabh Dalela, Director, ICAT in his inaugural address, apprised the audience of the latest developments in automotive lighting technology. He highlighted the involvement of ICAT in the Research & Development (R&D) of cutting-edge, intelligent lighting technology. He emphasised that ICAT is ready to support OEMs and lighting component suppliers for their product development and certification needs. The ISoL-2023 was inaugurated in the presence of senior officials from the Government, including industry leaders that had representation from Automotive

OEMs, lamp manufacturers, suppliers and academia. Industry leaders Shigeo Yamagishi san of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Deepak Jain, Chairman and Managing Director at Lumax, Dr J K Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, Fiem Industries and Christoph, Hella Germany. Highranking officials from automotive OEMs including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hero Motor Corp, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki Two-wheelers, Ashok Leyland, and BMW were among the other attendees.

The automotive lighting majors from India and abroad represented a strong faction at the ISOL 2023. Minda, Lumax, Hella, Varroc, Neolite, KK lighting, Fiem, and Lumileds were were among the leading players to name a few. The event also witnessed participation from EV startups and road safety device manufacturers. The two-day symposium had overall 34 technical papers presented by eminent speakers over six sessions, covering topics as diverse as intelligent automotive lighting, energy-efficient lighting design and styling, lighting in road safety and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), lighting for EVs, Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) challenges in lighting, futuristic trends and regulation in automotive lighting to highlight a few. For instance, one of the panel discussions was on ‘Lighting & ADAS’ while the second-panel discussion focused on ‘Lighting for EVs’. Airfield Lights, connected lighting, design, lighting measurement techniques, regulatory aspects related to automotive lighting technology, energy-efficient lighting, LED technology and its application in the automotive industry were also touched upon. Besides, the broadbased discussions covered lighting and environment, LIDAR technology and its application in automotive industry, optoelectronics, and safety design. It also extended to challenges and opportunities.

The event also covered the distribution of awards to recognise ‘Design, Innovation and Excellence’ in the field of automotive lighting. The exposition at ISoL-2023 included more than 30 exhibitors who showcased their innovative products and services in a show
