Mission of AONTAS The mission of AONTAS is to ensure that every adult in Ireland has access to appropriate and affordable learning opportunities throughout their lives, thus enabling them to contribute to and participate in the economic, social, civic and cultural development of Irish society. In order to achieve the valuable outcomes of adult learning for the individual and for society a quality service is important. AONTAS members identified the following key elements which are required to create a quality adult and community education service.      

Quality of teaching and learning through professional development Learner access to accreditation through the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Learner progression onto and through the NFQ Recognition of non-accredited and prior learning Increasing the body of knowledge through research, including monitoring and evaluation, to support the work of the service Effective adult education guidance service

VISIBILITY The section on visibility outlines the following objectives identified by membership which are required in order to promote the value of adult learning. 1. Develop the Adult Learners Festival as a key event in the adult education calendar 2. Strengthen the media strategy through communicative tools (websites, publications and ecommunication) 3. Represent the voice, and promote the value, of adult and community education through representation at local, national and international levels. 4. Support members to develop their voice through meetings, networks and membership events 5. Develop strong and transparent governance for the organisation 6.
