Communist Party Derby branch meetings The September branch meeting will be on Monday 17th September 7.30pm. Phone for details. Meetings are open to all Party supporters. Our July meeting discussed the latest example of the “culture of corruption” that is capitalism today – the banking and finance “scandals”… and how we can challenge the often expressed view that “nothing can be done” by working class people, communities & organisations to put an end to it, and to the “austerity” attacks by the government and the millionaire class it serves. We heard reports from the Party Executive Committee and from the Young Communist League Congress, both reasserting support for The People’s Charter, as a positive campaign for “the alternative” – focusing on local issues, as well as national initiatives, demonstrations etc. The September Branch meeting will be planning our work locally around this campaign. We will also be discussing the issues raised by the Party’s “21st Century Marxism” event, and those facing the Party Congress in November. We’d be very pleased if you’d like to come along.
“21st Century Marxism” In July the Party ran a very successful & stimulating “21st Century Marxism” weekend of seminars, workshops& debates. Branch members were among hundreds at London’s Bishopsgate Institute to discuss everything from global warming to the antiworking class nature of the European Union… from “women, race & class” to the alternative economic policy… from the 2011 “riots” to the Arab Spring… and much more. Representatives from Communist Parties around the world, environmental campaigners, leading British Trades Unionists, radical historians and authors, People’s Charter and anti-cuts activists were amongst those leading the sessions. If you missed it, make sure you are there in 2013, or at similar events organised locally!

Derby Trades Council & People’s Charter Our Party Branch Secretary, who is also Secretary of Derby Area Trades Union Council, has been elected to the TUC Committee for Trades Union Councils (TUCJCC) throughout England and Wales. At its July meeting TUCJCC agreed unanimously to encourage all Trades Union Councils to take part in a co-ordinated campaign with the People’s Charter “For Jobs, Skills, Industry & Public Services” Derby Area Trades Council has taken this up, and will be focusing on the fight for jobs &skills locally – organising events including workplace meetings, leafleting, street stalls– building on the response of Derby people to the attack on Bombardier workers. But this time, we’ll be doing it together with others in a range of towns & cities around Britain!
