THE ABERDEEN Economic Business Council’s Third Annual Job Fair on June 11, 2015 attracted nearly 400 job seekers and over 40 businesses. The event, which took place at Matawan Regional High School, attracted a record 42 employers in a variety of fields, including: administrative, clerical, campaign organizing, construction/remodeling, counseling, customer service, education, financial advisory, food service, homecare, home remodeling, housekeeping, human services, information technology, insurance, janitorial, maintenance, marketing, market research, national security, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, retail, sales, and theme parks. Indicative of the Job Fair’s success, an exit poll of the employers found that 89% expected to hire candidates that applied for positions that evening, with 57% saying they are “likely” to hire and 32% “very likely.” Additionally, 75% of the employers felt the turnout of job-seekers was acceptable and 97% expect to attend next year’s event, with 61% “very likely” and 36% “likely.” “I would like to thank everyone who played a role in making the job fair such a positive experience for all involved,” said EBC Chairman Carmine Visone. “Based on the positive feedback we received from both exhibitors and participants, I feel that we achieved our goal of bringing highly-qualified candidates together with top-notch companies. It was especially gratifying to see a record number of employers participate.” For the second year in a row, students from Matawan Regional High School’s Business Academy, under the direction of teacher Dan Bernstein, took part in planning and implementing the event including marketing, setting up, escorting exhibitors to their lo-

cations, and handing out guidebooks to job seekers. “We cannot say enough about the efforts of the Business Academy students,” said Visone. “We look forward to working with Dan and his students next year.” “I would like to congratulate EBC Chairman Carmine Visone, Planning/Zoning Board Secretary and Business Liaison Maxine Rescorl, EBC member Bill Parness, and the students for creating another successful job fair,” said Mayor Fred Tagliarini on behalf of the Aberdeen Township Council, which supports the event. “Events like this help not only job seekers and employers, but the entire community.” Visone, Rescorl and Parness were assisted at the fair by fellow business council members David Shah of Dunkin Donuts and Eugene DeMarco of DeMarco’s Catering and Gourmet Deli, who provided complimentary refreshments. Flowers by Melanie supplied identifier balloons for the vendor tables. Mayor Tagliarini and Council members Connie Kelley, Joseph Martucci, Margaret Montone and Robert Swindle also took part in the event. Since the inception of the town-wide format, Aberdeen Day has grown in popularity, with increased participation at both the high school and shopping center locations, including the food festivals hosted by DeMarcos Catering & Gourmet Deli and Livoti’s Old World Market. This year’s event will start with a movie in the park on Friday evening, September 25 at Guisti Park in Cliffwood (in the event of rain, the movie will be held at Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School). Saturday’s festivities will kick-off with the Cambridge Park 5k Run/Walk to benefit the Cambridge Park Elementary Preschool. It will be followed by the family fishing contest at Cliffwood Beach, which leads into the traditional celebration at Matawan Regional High School, special business-sponsored events at shopping centers and other locations on Routes 34 and 35, and the Aberdeen’s Got Talent contest at the AMF Center on Route 34. Following the successful introduction of trolley service last year, Aberdeen Day will once again offer free transportation between venues and the overflow parking lot at the AberdeenMatawan train station. Additionally, Aberdeen Day 2015 will for the first time feature free circus performances by the New Jersey Circus Center at Matawan-Aberdeen Middle School on Matawan Avenue Performances will take place three times throughout the day. Food trucks and other vendors will be positioned outside the school during all performances. Circus sponsorships are available. “The Township Council is proud to provide this fun-filled activity at a new Aberdeen Day event venue,” said Councilman Greg Cannon. “This promises to delight residents of all ages.” With multiple levels of sponsorship and participation programs ranging in price from $50 to $1,000, opportunities exist for businesses of all sizes and budgets at a variety of venues. “Sponsorship of Aberdeen Day offers local businesses and charitable groups the opportunity to introduce themselves to the thousands of residents of all ages from Aberdeen and surrounding communities who participate in this annual event,” said Aberdeen Recreation Director Jim Colabelli. High School sponsorship packages priced from $250 to $1,000 offer exposure prior to and during the municipality’s annual celebration. The $1,000 Platinum package, for example, includes mentions on the township website, a lawn sign at the high school, press releases, and T-shirt advertising. The $650 Gold sponsorship includes mentions on the website, a lawn sign at the high school and T-shirt advertising, while the $250 Silver package offers exposure on the website and a lawn sign at the high school. Businesses and crafters can exhibit at the High School for $50. The venue fee for food vendors is $100, while volunteer, entertainment and youth groups can participate free of charge. Outside of the High School, merchants can participate in storefront events for $50 per location or opt for sponsorship opportunities ranging from $75 for T-shirt advertising, to $150 for Trolley Stop Signage, and $500 each for large banners on Routes 34 and 35. “Along with traditional sponsorships, Aberdeen Day offers businesses a variety of opportunities designed to meet their individual needs,” said Carmine Visone, Chairman of the Aberdeen Economic Business Council (EBC) and CEO of Home Away From Home Academy, who, along with Maxine Rescorl, Aberdeen Township Business Liaison, represents the EBC on the 2015 Aberdeen Day Committee. “With the expansion of the event, Aberdeen Day provides numerous ways for businesses to make themselves known to residents from Aberdeen and surrounding communities through storefront participation at our shopping center celebrations along Routes 34 and 35, setting up a table at the high school, or the different sponsorships offered.” For more information or to obtain sponsorship materials, contact Aberdeen Township Recreation Director Jim Colabelli at 732.583.4200, ext. 129 or 173. Applications are due by June 12. All donations are tax deductible. For circus sponsorship information, contact Maxine Rescorl at 732.583.4200, ext. 101.

The Keyport Spanish American Club announced today plans for the 17th annual Spanish American Festival of Keyport on Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 12:00 to 7:30 p.m. The Festival will be held at the Keyport Waterfront, Corner of Broad Street and First Street. The purpose of the Spanish American Festival of Keyport is to bring people of all backgrounds together to celebrate the richness of Latino culture. The average is well over three thousand people at our event each year. “Our festival is more like a giant family picnic where the whole family gets to participate. There are fun and games for young and old alike”, said Albert DeGracia Festival Committee Chairman. Our success is also due to the cooperation and support we are indebted to from our Keyport municipal friends that always help out, he added. Joe Sheridan, Keyport Council President said, “ALL of Keyport and its neighbors always look forward to the annual Spanish American Festival. Besides all the wonderful culinary choices, there is music and dancing. The event is situated directly on the waterfront, which always offers a nice breeze to enjoy all the festivities. Come out and see for yourself how great the Keyport Spanish American Festival is.” The Festival full day of entertainment is on the Keyport Community Calendar. To date, confirmed entertainers include; Atomic Band, Ray Rodriquez y su Swing Sabroso, DJ Lady C, La Comái Buena de NJ, Que Bochinche. There will be plenty of ethnic foods, family fun, raffles and games for the entire family and much more. Student and community service awards will be presented around 2:30 p.m. The mission of the Keyport Spanish American Club is to further promote and support the advancement of Hispanics in the Bayshore communities and to Herald the Achievements and Accomplishments of our members, benefactors and beneficiaries. The members of the Festival committee are: Albert DeGracia, Carlos Maldonado, Virginia Maldonado, Magalie Rivera, Ralph Millan, Pedro Irizarry and Claudia DeGracia Ample & FREE parking is available at the Festival.

Why Choose Wholetrition? BY ALESHA LAZAN, MS, CHHC
GREAT QUESTION! I take pride in my brand and use a unique approach to health and fitness. Why should being healthy be torturous? It should be amazing and fun! I infuse my passion for health into everything I do. Eating healthy should never feel like a chore. I educate my clients on the reasons why you should WANT to do good for your body. Why you should WANT to feel healthy and live healthy. Why you should WANT to live a lifestyle free of disease and pain. So much of what we eat today promotes inflammation. When the inflammation dissipates amazing things happen. I educate more than anything on how the foods you put into your body can actually be detrimental to your health. Most programs out there give you something to follow, but they do not actually educate you on how to live in the real world. Are you really going to count points your whole life or live on frozen meals? This is unrealistic.

I am clinical, which means everything I do has research to back it up. I am a coach, which means I can take you every step of the way. I am holistic, which means I believe in going back to basics and to what Mother Nature provides for us. We must remember where we came from and that was not from a laboratory. We are beings of nature, so lets get back there! Bio-individuality is a must. Everyone is different, but most clinicians think one size fits all. I take the time to sit down with you, review blood work, medical/ health history, medication/supplement list, but we connect on a deeper level. I get to know you! What foods you like and don’t like and we go based off of that. Everything can be customized to fit your needs. Each person is on his or her own wellness journey, but having someone to help you is most people’s missing link. Allow me to help you get to where you need to be. “Fishing with Heroes” IMMEDIATE CARE EVENT BROUGHT FAMILIES TOGETHER embers of the community gathered together on July 14, 2015, to take part in a “Fishing with Heroes” event sponsored by Immediate Care CEO and local Hometown Hero, Sal Cannizzaro. A total of 40 members of the community set sail for the open seas aboard Mi-Jo, a 75 foot fishing boat, to enjoy a day together. The group left the Atlantic Highlands bright and early at 7:00 a.m. Aboard the ship, Sal Cannizzaro took a moment to talk about the importance of spending quality time with family members. As a young boy he remembers spending many a day wishing he had a strong father figure and the means to go fishing. Eric Allen, of Union Beach, said, “We had a great time, and are really appreciative of the opportunity. The kids had a great time and for all of them it was the first time to see a shark up close and personal. A first time they may never have had if it wasn’t for Immediate Care & Hometown Heroes.” This kind of response is the sentiment we want to bring to the people of our community. Mr. Stone, a member of “Father Time” Community Organization of Keansburg who came aboard with three generations of his family stated, "This is great. We can all come out together since the cost of fishing
nowadays is more than the cost to purchase a fish from a supermarket.” One of the most important aspects of life is not always what you have, but who you spend it with. While the day was filled with excitement, no one was more excited than Sal Cannizzaro to have the opportunity to give back to the community. Immediate Care would like to give a special thanks to Hometown Heroes, and the girls of Operation Cupcake who provided the group with delicious sweets for the trip. We would also like to give a special thanks to everyone that lent a helping hand for the event. Immediate Care is the area's premier urgent care facility for non-life-threatening medical illnesses and injuries. With three convenient locations in Hazlet, Toms River, and Brooklyn, we are the ideal alternative when you can’t wait days or weeks to see your primary care physician and don’t want to wait for hours on end in an emergency room. Immediate Care is here when you need us for well care, accident/ injury, pain management, evaluations, physical exams, x-rays, vaccines, occupational medicine, diabetic care, wound care and so much more. All three locations provide urgent care services, and our Hazlet, NJ, facility provides primary care as well.

When first arriving at the KBBC tent, visitors were
encouraged to fill out a survey to receive a voting ballot to pick the top three best cars of the night. The survey also entered guests
in a drawing to win one of two $50 Keyport Kash certificates.
The first winner, Marina Rebmann, was announced right before

The MiniPark was packed as “Carnaby Street” serenaded
guests with music of the “British Invasion Era.” Playing hits from

In a slow economy, one of the first things people cut back
on is dining and entertainment. Restaurateurs know that halfempty dining rooms can mean lost revenue for their eateries. So how do restaurants keep bars buzzing and dining rooms full? Savvy restaurant owners look to local barter exchanges, like BarterPays! in Howell, as a way to attract new customers, turning empty seats into profits without discounting prices.
Restaurant owners can earn full menu pricing through
network bartering without accepting coupons or half-price deals. One BarterPays! member, a Japanese restaurant in Hudson County, hosted a communion party for a member magazine publisher on a recent Saturday morning. The restaurant, which doesn’t usually bring in a large brunch crowd, was happy to host a sizeable party at this time. The party introduced the restaurant to many potential new customers, kept the staff busy, and earned the restaurant owner barter dollars. Restaurants can use their newfound earnings to reduce their cash expenses, turning to barter members for advertising, marketing, accounting, pest control and carpet cleaning.
If you don’t own a restaurant, but like dining out,
belonging to a barter exchange is still a win. Small business owners that are members of networks like BarterPays! can enjoy a night out without breaking the bank. Everyone from dentists to salon owners like being able to treat their families Throw your summer into gear with Keyport’s Motorcycle Show! Stroll down the street while enjoying bikes, great food, and a kickin’ outdoor summer concert.
to sushi, steak, martinis and sandwiches, all on barter.
If you’re a restaurant owner hungry for more customers,
network bartering can be extremely beneficial. It allows business owners to reach new customers, reduce cash spending, and stay busy even in a slow economy.

Jersey Shore Workcamp held its seventh workcamp June 28 to July 4, 2015 during
which time over 400 Christian youth from all over the United States and Canada came together to work on 75 homes in the Bayshore area. The youth and leaders were housed in Keansburg High School for their weeks’ stay. This service work is done free of cost for the homeowners; and the only qualifications are that the person cannot do the needed work or afford the materials. Coordinators Bill and Gail Bechtoldt noted that Jersey Shore Workcamp (JSW) is co-sponsored by their church, St. John’s United Methodist Church in Hazlet. They explained that each workcamper pays for their mission opportunity; and that locally, funds are raised to supply the paint and materials needed to work on the homes. Building wheelchair ramps, scraping, painting, new steps or porch replacement are some of the work done. In the end, these workcampers and their leaders have helped those in need to live safely with dignity and respect. Homes in Aberdeen, Hazlet, Keansburg, Keyport, Middletown, and Union Beach received muchneeded attention. “Our church had 10 workcampers. Overall we had 70 crews and each crew consisted of five youth and one adult,” explained Gail. Over 60 volunteers assisted with this workcamp. Locally, the volunteers were St. John’s members, extended family and friends. Holmdel Kiwanis and Keyport Kiwanis, as well as the Middletown Lions were also supportive. On June 28, when the youth began to arrive at Keansburg High School, members of the Holmdel and Keyport Kiwanis welcomed them with a barbecue and slices of watermelon. “We are fortunate to have the support of generous businesses who supplied fruit snacks, cookies, and treats every afternoon when the youth returned to the school, as well as in the evening after the evening program,” said Gail. She added that this was the JSW’s sixth workcamp at Keansburg High School. She sent thanks to Keansburg Superintendent of Schools Gerald North. “The school was immaculate and the custodial and kitchen staff were fantastic!” Some of the local leaders who have stopped by to offer thanks and positive energy to the youth and volunteers were the Governor’s Office of Volunteerism Executive Director Rowena Madden; Keansburg Mayor George Hoff; Hazlet Deputy Mayor Scott Aagre; Union Beach Mayor Paul Smith; and Pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church Reverend Clark Callender. Whether this is the first or last workcamp the youth attend, the same thing is true for everyone – they go home different than when they arrived. As first time attendee Ashleigh Kried, 15, of Indianapolis explained, “It was fun to see new faces and learn other people’s stories. It has opened me up in ways I didn’t know could happen. This is the best thing I have ever experienced.” Four-time attendee Marilla Marks, 17, of Michigan said, “You know it’s the same schedule each time but every workcamp brings something different and unique. We all had a blast helping the people whose homes we worked at.”

Workcamp Leader Dana Wood of Connecticut has attended four workcamps. “Some of the youth don’t realize what is needed to maintain a house, or about the struggles people in need have to face. Before long they each develop skills and their accomplishments build self-esteem. They get to know the residents and get attached to them. It’s absolutely beautiful to watch. These youth represent our churches and our communities, and they do a wonderful job. Many of them continue helping others throughout college and they know that this experience has helped in making them who they are.” Hazlet resident Stephanie Daniels shared, “Bill and Gail Bechtoldt and the Jersey Shore Workcamp are wonderful! A true God-send. My two crews of teens and adults were the sweetest, best bunch I’ve ever met. We couldn’t have done it without them.” Owen Driskoll of Connecticut was a first time workcamper at the Daniels’ home. “This is the greatest summer I have ever had because of this work camp. This experience is memorable. Our resident has seen hard times which I can relate to. My crew members are from all over the United States and we have built strong bonds and are developing lasting friendships.” Keyport resident Linda Melendez shared, “This week has been extremely uplifting for me. Not only does this work camp paint and repair my home but they also repair me mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. The Jersey Shore Workcamp restored my faith in humanity and shows there are wonderful people out there who are

willing to help strangers. I appreciate all the hard work, dedication and determination the Jersey Shore Workcamp volunteers and my crew put in to help me.” Returning workcamper Doris McDermott of Connecticut who worked at this Keyport home said, “I love it! Workcamp regenerates my spiritual energy. This is my third time at Jersey Shore Workcamp and my twentieth year workcamping.” First time workcamper Maggie Thomson of Massachusetts who also worked at this site said, “My resident is a great inspiration!” One teary-eyed Union Beach gentleman said this about the youth working on his home. “My heart will be changed by the teens working here this week.” Gail shared the following statement that summarizes what she and her husband Bill would like the public to know about the impact the youth, leaders, and residents have on one another. “We care if the painting is applied and the wheelchair ramp is built, but the most important thing is that the resident knows the youth cares about them and wants to keep them safe. We hope the youth understand they may be the only face of Jesus the resident may see and their arms the only ones who hug them. They are our ambassadors for Christ. Bill and I are so blessed to have the opportunity to partner our church with Group Workcamps to bring the home repair project to the Bayshore area.”

No child should feel left out on the playground. Unfortunately, this is not always the truth for children with special needs. The Cambridge Park Pre-School PTO and Cambridge Park Playground Sub-Committee in Aberdeen Township’s mission is to build a playground so that children of all abilities can play and socialize without limits. The group has announced their inaugural 5K Run/Walk to be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 (on Aberdeen Day) with a start time of 8:45 a.m. Participants should meet at the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station in Commuter Lot 4 on Atlantic Avenue and Harrel Street. This event aims to raise money to fund a new state-of-the-art playground that would benefit all children, but specifically those five and under, as well as children with disabilities. Cambridge Park Pre-School is unique in that it is the only preschool in the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District for children with special needs. The Cambridge Park Playground Committee is dedicated to providing a safe place to play and learn for children of all abilities. Educational research proves that play is imperative to promote both physical and academic development. Please help them in reaching their goal! Entry fees are $25 prior to September 5, 2015 and $35 after. For more information and to register, visitwww. cambridgepark5k.org.
