Seniors on the

WHO’S COUNTING?
I
t has been said that a person is only as old as he or she feels. After all, it is possible for a 65-year-old in good physical shape with a positive attitude to be “younger” than a sedentary person half as old with a poor outlook. Scientists seem to agree. Recent research suggests that age is defined by more things than merely the number of years a person has been alive. It indicates that a person’s true age is more accurately defined by taking certain factors into account such as health, cognitive function, disability rates, and perceived age. According to a Danish study, the younger-looking sibling of a twin set tended to outlive his or her older-looking brother or sister. NOTRE DAME LONG TERM CARE CENTER encourages our senior residents to feel young! We provide an upbeat atmosphere, and offer a wide variety of activity and entertainment options. To learn more, contact us today at (508) 852-3011. You are invited to tour our conveniently located senior community at 559 Plantation Street. We’re here for you! P.S. These days, a person who is 65 years old may be more like someone who was 55 years old 45 years ago in terms of important aspects of their lives.

Happy Anniversary! A Note from Paul F. Bowler, Chief Executive Officer It’s been 30 years since the first residents moved to the Briarwood Senior Community in Worcester and West Boylston. With 60 cottages and a small community center, Briarwood’s visionaries took the first step on a long journey leading to the comprehensive continuing care community known today as Briarwood. From those early days, Briarwood has evolved into a campus of 194 homes and the 82-bed Knollwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services support independent and assisted living, campus nursing, fitness and daily meal delivery for 300 in The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). In addition, The Elms Assisted Living wing will soon undergo extensive renovations allowing
residents with mild to moderate cognitive disabilities to be safely served; this adaptation will extend the continuum of service so that Briarwood truly remains, “home for life” as the founders from Worcester’s First Baptist and Salem Covenant Churches intended. Please join us in recognizing Briarwood’s 30th anniversary and more importantly, in recognizing Briarwood’s 30 year celebration of life, health, sense of community and commitment to planning for the next 30 years! Please contact us if you’d like a tour of Briarwood. The Briarwood Community 65 Briarwood Circle Worcester, MA 01606 Call Carol King at 508-852-9004 caking@briarwoodsl.com
