Positive space for our youth
DANIEL TAPIWA PAUL
ON Friday, March 31, Mr Stephen Bali, Member of Parliament for Blacktown with ACU Blacktown Campus co-hosted the “Future of Blacktown” workshop.
Mr Bali facilitated the discussion on the infrastructural future of Blacktown. This was a remarkably inspiring gathering of community leaders and individuals from across the Blacktown region, who share a similar heart and interest that cares about the future Blacktown.
There were several discussions and suggestions of what a central living district should look like. One of the suggestions arising that the workshop table discussions was the need to have an open, around the clock, 24/7 Blacktown community hub/community space, which can be utilised for multiple big social events, activities and programs. This could be a space large enough for local and international artists to perform, and the space would also be easily transformable for the use of our beloved festivals, can incorporate multicultural festivals, women’s programs, kids events, youth and young adult inspirational and motivational events through the regular showcasing of the creative arts and entertainment, music, dance, poetry, art displays and other entertainment, throughout the year. The Hub could have facilities for social study areas and opportunities for regular programs and events that support youth and alleviate the mental health of the youth, encouraging them in obtaining or furthering their education so they too can make their contributions to society.
The Hub would be a space that regularly casts vision with the youth and “speaks life” into their situation through motivational speeches inspiring them to pursue their dreams.
The Hub would be a positive space that helps youth overcome depression, poverty, and/or substance abuse. The Hub would be a space that serves as a constant reminder of how vital the youth are to Blacktown community.
I was very encouraged by the discussions we had at the workshop. I look forward to continuing to participate in these discussions, alongside other youth, and to making further contributions in shaping the future of Blacktown.
