Celebrating Diversity in Australia’s diversity capital – GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

Cultural diversity encompasses the ways in which people and communities express their unique identities, and it also includes the norms, values, and social customs that are shared within those groups.

Cultural diversity acknowledges that societies are made up of individuals who come from diverse backgrounds, have diverse beliefs and it promotes respect for and acceptance of differences among people for the betterment of all.

Greater Western Sydney has one of the most diverse cultural communities in the world. The region contains about 9% of Australia’s population, and 44% of Sydney’s population. Some of the largest population groups of non-English speakers are found in Western Sydney.

WEXPO – Our Community is a unique event that celebrates cultural diversity in Greater Western Sydney with a day of workshops, exhibitor interaction, networking, entertainment, and education held at Parramatta, the gateway to Greater Western Sydney.

Organised under the banner of the successful WEXPO event series, Our Community is a showcase of support and opportunity - to discover and engage the range of services and support groups that contribute to the rich diversity of our region.

Diversity includes differences in experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.

Celebrating and valuing diversity promotes inclusiveness and recognizes that individuals with different characteristics bring unique qualities and strengths to our community.

Cultural diversity refers to the mix of racial, ethnic, religious, and linguistic groups that exist within our society, as well as the different cultural practices, beliefs, and traditions that they bring with them.

Workshops will be held throughout the day, see program for details.
