Demographics Graham County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Arizona. As of the 2010 census, the population was 37,220, making it the third-least populous county in Arizona. The county seat is Safford.
As of the 2000 census, there were 33,489 people, 10,116 households, and 7,617 families residing in the county. The population density was 7 people per square mile (3/km²). There were 11,430 housing units at an average density of 2 per square mile (1/km²). In the county the population was spread out with 30.10% under the age of 18, 12.00% from 18 to 24, 27.30% from 25 to 44, 18.70% from 45 to 64, and 11.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 112.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.10 males. The median income for a household in the county was $29,668, and the median income for a family was $34,417. Males had a median income of $30,524 versus $20,739 for females. The per capita income for the county was $12,139. About 17.70% of families and 23.00% of the population were below the poverty line, including 30.20% of those under age 18 and 13.60% of those age 65 or over.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,641 square miles (12,020 km2), of which 4,623 square miles (11,970 km2) is land and 19 square miles (49 km2) (0.4%) is water. The county has various mountain ranges including Mount Graham, which is the highest mountain in the Pinaleno Mountains.
