ThisisaSomerset-widewomen’sproject,providingavarietyofgroupmovement activities,foranyfemaleaged16+lookingtogetactiveinwaysthatarerightfor them.Thiscanbeanythingfromwalkingfootball,low-impactstrengthtraining,to YogaorPilatesandevenrollerskating.Theywanttoinstilempowermentand confidenceineverywomanbyprovidingsupportive,encouragingandmotivating classeswithequalcharacteristicsintheinstructorsthatrunthem.Theaimistobreak barriersbycreatingcoursesthatareaffordable,accessible,safeandself-affirming, wherethereisno‘type’toadheretoandnoshapetobe,otherthanyourself.

TheQuantockLandscape PartnershipScheme(QLPS)

PartoftheQuantockHillsAreaof OutstandingNaturalBeauty,andwith fundingfromtheNationalLotteryHeritage Fund,QLPSconnectpeoplewiththenatural andhistoricheritageofthehills.

Theirworkconnectsdiversecommunities livinginSomersetwiththeirlocal landscape,exploringnewareastogetherin aninclusiveandfriendlyprogrammeof walksandevents.

Oneoftheirmostpopulareventswithlocal communitieshasbeentheirPhotoWalks; monthlywalkswithshortandlongroutes dependingonexperience.Oftentransport canbeprovidedtoandfromtheseevents –QLPSappreciatesthatnoteveryonecan drivetorurallocations,buteveryonelocally shouldhavetheopportunitytoexperience natureonthedoorstep.

Duringtheseevents,itdoesn'tmatterifyou don'thaveafancycameraortechnical expertise,it'saboutappreciatingyour surroundingsandfindingsomewhere naturalthatyoucanimmerseyourselfat anytimeofyear.Thecameraisafantastic tooltoencourageyoutoslowdownand focusyourattention,it'samindfulness exerciseandcanbeaveryrelaxing process.Ifit’syourfirsttimeexperiencing thelocalcountryside,havingacameracan beanaccessiblewaytomakesenseof newsurroundings.

TheQLPSwanttoextendthesesupportive initiativestotheircommunities,building placesandeventswherepeoplefeel included,welcomeandabletosharethe footpathswithanyoneelse.

Inacountywithverylowethnicdiversity,for anypeopleorcommunitywhomaybe isolatedinanyway,it’salsoaboutsharing thecountryside,experiencingitthrough fresheyesandcreatingnewconnections. WhetheryouronlyimageoftheUK countrysideisStonehenge,oryouhavea fearoftheoutdoors,snakesandother wildlife,hillsorterrain,groupslikeQLPScan introduceacomprehensiveandless intimidatingviewofwhat’soutthere.

What’smore,theywillguideyouonthat journeyandfriendshipswillbemadealong theway.

StandAgainstRacism&Inequality(SARI) canhelp.

Formorethan30yearsSARIhasbeen supportingvictimsofhatecrimeto empowerthem,helpthemrebuildtheir livesandtolivewithoutfear.

BeforetheformationofSARI,thevictimsof racisminAvon&Somerset(whichcovers theareasofBath&NorthEastSomerset, Bristol,NorthSomerset,Somerset,and SouthGloucestershire)receivedno coordinatedresponseorspecialist supportfromagencies.

Theorganisationwassetupin1988and hasbeenworkingtogiveavoicetothose communitiesmarginalisedbecauseof hate,discriminationandinequality.

Sinceitsinception,thewaythecharity workshaschangedandevolved,but supportingvictimsofhatecrimethrough itscaseworkservicehasalwaysbeenat theheartofwhatSARIdoes.

SARIhasexperiencesupportingvictimsin multi-culturalurbanareassuchasBristol, aswellasruralandlessdiverseareasand sounderstandshowhatecrimecan impactdifferentlyonpeopledepending onthesupportnetworkstheyhave nearby.

TheLetmeSingprojectwillcreatean albumofnewfolksongsinspiredbythe realstoriesofthepeopleofSedgemoor district,Somerset.Theresultingalbumwill giveanaccurateideaofwhatlifeislikein Somersetinthe2020sandwilladdthe resultingsongstotherichSomersetfolk tradition.Dannywillconductaround50 interviewswithawiderangeofpeople livinginthedistrict,focussingspecifically onforeignnationalsandfactoryworkers. Theuntoldstoriesofthisunheard demographicwillbemadeintomusic,we willletthesepeoplespeak,wewillLetthem Sing.

Dannywouldliketotalktopeoplewhoare workinginfactories,warehouses,packing facilitiesetc.Everyoneisinterestingand Dannyiseagertorecordthesestoriesthat willinspirefuturesongs.

TheTogetherFundisacontinuationoftheTackling InequalitiesFund(TIF),originallysetupinApril2020aspartof SportEngland'ssupportpackagetohelpthesportand physicalactivitysectorthroughthecoronaviruscrisis. Phase4ofthefundhasseenanother£20millionofNational Lotteryfundingcommittedtohelpthegroupsthat,fromSport England'sinsight,weredisproportionatelyaffectedbythe pandemic,significantlyimpactingtheirabilitytobephysically active.

Amaximumof£10kforasingleawardand£30kaccumulativeacrosstheentire fund(phases1–4)maybeappliedfor.Applicationsmustnotduplicateany fundingalreadyreceivedfromSportEngland/NationalLottery. Repeatapplicationsareeligible,howeverorganisationsseekingsecond/third applicationsmustdemonstratelearning,value,andimpactfromthefirstround(s) ontheirapplicationform.
