How can the Housing Team help you? How can the Rural Housing Team help? The process required to develop housing in rural communities is complex and time consuming. Robust evidence of housing need, a site with a willing landowner and with the potential to gain planning permission, and a scheme that will stack up financially are some of the key issues. Probably the most important factor for a scheme to be successful is a community that understands the benefits of affordable housing for local people and is prepared to get involved in the pre-development process and back the scheme. Our Experience The Community Council of Devon has a highly experienced Housing Team of committed housing professionals who have worked in housing in a number of different roles for many years. The Rural Housing Team have developed a tried and tested process of working closely with rural communities to deliver affordable housing. They have developed successful partnerships in many communities and consistently meet or exceed their targets for completions of rural affordable homes in Devon. Our customers include Parish and Town Councils, landowners, Housing Associations, Local Authorities and private developers.
Recent examples of our work Rural Energy Survey commissioned by Teignbridge District Council
A questionnaire-based survey in two Dartmoor communities to identify households in fuel poverty who would benefit from energy saving measures and to establish the extent of take up of new “eco� technologies and views on different methods of community energy generation.
Mystery Shopping Exercise commissioned by Devon Housing Options Partnership
A mystery shopping exercise to test the standard and quality of some aspects of local housing services
Village Housing Need Assessments commissioned by housing associations, landowners and private developers
Postal surveys to establish the affordable housing need for local people in a parish and the tenure and house size required and the general level of support for a small development of affordable housing for local people with housing needs
Community Consultation in Appledore commissioned by Tarka Housing Association
