PLANNING AHEAD: THE ALLIANCE FUND ENDOWMENT

UPDATE FROM ANNE DOUGHERTY, DEVELOPMENT CHAIR

An endowment is a permanent fund that generates income to support the organization’s programs and operations over time. By growing an endowment, a nonprofit can create a reliable source of funding that is not dependent on the ups and downs of annual fundraising efforts.

Since 2021, the LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund has seen significant growth in our total endowed funds. In fact, we’ve nearly tripled our assets in the last two years—and now, our endowment is closer than ever to surpassing $1 million.

We wish to thank the following supporters who have created named endowments, made major gifts, and/or included us in their estate plans to help grow our endowment over the last three years.

• Kent Burbank & Vicente Talanquer – Named endowment

• Sylvia Stan Mulka – Named endowment

• Kristen Birner & Colette Barajas – Named endowment

• Steve Quinlan & Ron Garnica – Named endowment

• Kathy Altman & Ivy Schwartz – Named endowment

• David & Norma Lewis Foundation held at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona – Major general endowment gift

• Anne Maley-Schaffner & Tim Schaffner – Major general endowment gift

In addition to our general endowment, the following previously-established named endowments have also greatly contributed to our success: the Douglas Noffsinger & Roger Funk Endowment , the Walt Whitman Endowment, the Noel Matkin-Jim Sincox Endowment

“ The protection of our LGBTQ+ neighbors goes hand-in-hand with our hopes and values. Thinking globally and acting locally, we appreciate the opportunity to give back by creating a named endowment to support Alliance Fund grantees in perpetuity.”

PERPETUITY: everlasting, an indefinitely long duration.
