Jump2it Working in partnership with the Glasgow Rocks, the Jump2it programme has been able to deliver education through sport workshops and basketball coaching sessions within over 110 primary schools across six local authority areas, reaching over 9400 children. The main aim of the Jump2it programme over the last year has been to create opportunities for improved education, health and citizenship within young people, whilst also facilitating wider community development across Scotland. Jump2it has effectively demonstrated itself as a vehicle for community development by providing wider societal opportunities for improved education, social inclusion, volunteering, active citizenship and community well-being.

FREE In order to facilitate these opportunities, Jump2it have focused on creating and improving social networks in each local authority in which it operates. This has largely been accomplished by working collaboratively in partnership with a variety of wider stakeholders including Active Schools, local councils, clubs, teachers, police and the young people themselves. The development of these support networks has allowed the Jump2it programme to use sport as an effective tool to engage with young people and bring excluded groups together. This has allowed us to bridge gaps within communities whilst promoting a ‘sport for all’ environment. We recently asked a group of Glasgow participants for their feedback on their experience of the Jump2it programme. All of the participants were keen to highlight how much they enjoyed taking part. Some of the participants have highlighted that the Jump2it programme has helped them to make new friends and how it has helped them to gain an understanding of what makes good teamwork. One particular quote from the pupils reads ‘I have made more friends since the basketball club started’. All of the children also enjoyed their Roadshow visit from the Glasgow Rocks and stated how they had fun while learning about various subjects such as Healthy Eating, the Dangers of Smoking and Alcohol.
