Gold Medal Impressions Capturing Iconic Moments Back to school means back to sports and Gold Medal Impressions, the area’s leader in superior sports photography is camera ready. Owner Dick Druckman is proud of his move in January to his new, larger gallery conveniently located at Windsor Business Park, Building 2A, 196 Princeton-Hightstown Road, West Windsor. Nationally renowned for his shots of professional sports that have captured iconic moments, Druckman is also famous for his dynamic photographs of local high school and college games. “I had loved sports all my life and thrill to the drama of the moment at a high school baseball game as much as at Yankee Stadium when the batter crushes a homer out of the park,” says Druckman. “Parents and students want and deserve the same premier quality photography as the pros. Gold Medal Impressions delivers that same talent and creativity to each shot.” As a back to school special, Gold Medal Impressions is having a sale from September 1 to 30th. Take 33

percent off iconic photos of local and professional teams. “Now’s the time. Send your students off to college with a professional shot of them in action on the field, or give them a picture of their favorite athlete captured at that perfect moment,” says Druckman. “I cover a variety of sports at local high school and college levels as well as the Olympics.” Druckman’s rise to prominence in the world of sports photography is as remarkable as his pictures. Born and raised in Hartford, Con-

necticut, he went on to earn a BA degree from Trinity College and an MBA from Columbia University. Throughout his schooling, Druckman was an avid sports fan. He had a successful career at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) in Princeton, where he eventually became Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning. In 1984 Druckman took his family to the Los Angeles Olympics and had a number of his photographs published by several news agencies. It was at this point, that his

passion for photography turned from a hobby to a profession and ultimately to a second career. In 2001, Druckman retired from BMS and established his sports photography gallery and business, Gold Medal Impressions, Inc. Gold Medal Impressions is now the largest sports photography gallery in the country. Druckman has been able to marry his love of sports with his passion for photography. Over the past 35 years, he has captured thousands of award winning images at the past 12 Super Bowls, World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Championships, and Olympic Games. Many of these once-in-a lifetime photographs have appeared in Sports Illustrated, USA Today, Parade Magazine, and The Associated Press, which placed them in newspapers and publications around the world. Celebrate your student’s athletic career or your school’s wins with a professional photo from Gold Medal Impressions. Call the gallery for a tour today. The Dance Corner A Studio and a Second Home The Dance Corner in West Windsor’s Southfield Shopping Center believes exceptional dance instruction should emphasize more than just dance. The studio weaves the importance of self-esteem, persistence, and confidence into all of its instruction. Friendship, teamwork, leadership, discipline, commitment, and memories are natural outcomes of quality and child-centered dance training. Owner Amy DeCesare wants the Dance Corner’s students to think of the studio as a second home, a place where they can learn and feel comfortable at the same time. “Some kids take up to nine classes a week, with most students averaging three classes a week,” DeCesare says. “We see some students starting with just one class and then feeling so empowered, they want to take more and more classes. Seeing the confidence my instructors instill in them is very gratifying.” The Dance Corner is more than ballet. The school strives to foster personal, technical, and artistic growth for all of its students, at all ages, levels, and styles. Offering more than 35 individual classes taught by 11 instructors, the Dance Corner has a depth of experience unmatched in the area. Instructors have professional experience with the American Ballet Company, national and international theater and dance touring programs, as well as college and community theater programs throughout the United States.

“We’re both different and special at the Dance Corner because we offer all types of high-quality dance instruction rather than concentrating on just one form of dance,” DeCesare notes proudly. “We have two dance studios with professional quality sprung dance floors and a state-of-the-art sound system. With two studios, we can have

two classes at once, allowing us to expose even more students to the wonderful world of dance.” Classes are grouped by age or skill level and run from 45 minutes to upwards of an hour, depending on age. Adults should not feel left out at the Dance Corner, with year-long and drop in class offerings in multiple styles. The school offers a scholarship for boys ages six and up when registering for a co-ed class. DeCesare notes it’s nice to have a mix of boys and girls in the classes and that teaching the mixed classes has been very rewarding. “We believe performance is important,” De Cesare says. “We have a recital at the end of the school year. We also have a non-profit dance company, the West Windsor Plainsboro Dance Company, which performs during the year. We’re unique because we have these additional performance opportunities, including a performance of the Nutcracker Suite in December.” The studio’s Elite Competition Team offers the most performance opportunities, competing at the regional, national, and world level. Choose the Dance Corner as your go-to studio for superior dance instruction, varied performance opportunities — combined with an emphasis on friendship and personal growth. Contact Amy DeCesare to see the studio in action, meet the teachers, and observe first-hand what makes the Dance Corner home to so many local families. Pennington Montessori School Committed to Offering the Best Preschool Experience In 1978 a small group of parents saw a need for a nonprofit preschool that would promote and encourage the intellectual, social, and physical development of children according to the Montessori philosophy of early childhood education. They formed what is now Pennington Montessori School. Over the past 38 years the facility has changed the addresses but not the commitment to offering the best preschool experience in the area. Pennington Montessori along with a committed staff of Montessori-trained teachers has proudly been the starting point on a lifelong adventure into learning for hundreds of the children in the Pennington community and the surrounding areas. Our community of staff and parents is dedicated to the individual development of each child from six weeks to six years in a carding and enriched environment. Dr. Montessori believed that the child was in their most sensitive pe-

riod from birth to six years. Our new Infant Program is designed so that each child will receive individual attention allowing the teacher to cater to the needs of the infant based on their own personality. The teachers will take the time to learn from the parent and the infant and devise a routine that makes the infant feel safe and loved. The teachers are

there to respond to the ever-changing physical, emotional, social, and intellectual changes in each infant and guide them to the next milestone. As a LEED-certified/Green school it is the goal of Pennington Montessori to provide all of its students with the optimal environment that is conducive to learning. We

strive to help children make healthy choices when it comes to hygiene, fitness, and what they choose to put into their bodies for fuel. We emphasize physical activity by taking time for vigorous outdoor playground activity every day that the weather permits or running in our considerable indoor open space! We believe a fit body is essential to a healthy mind. Exercise promotes lean, muscled bodies, and fit bodies are ready to learn. Learning in a secure environment allows our children to concentrate on the exploration of their surroundings knowing that they will always be well cared for and secure. Faculty and staff are first aid and CPR-trained, cameras monitor the grounds, and visitors are vetted as they walk through the front door. Though security is always high on our list of adult priorities, children are able to learn in an environment that allows them to still maintain their innocence and sense of wonder. Please contact the school for more information or to make an appointment for a private tour. Pennington Montessori School, 4 Tree Farm Road, Pennington. 609-737-1331. www.penningtonmontessori.org. Treating the Whole Family

Hamilton Dental Associates (HDA) has been serving Hamilton and the greater central Jersey area for over 50 years. While HDA’s roots are in pediatric dentistry, they also specialize in adult and cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics. Everything is offered under one roof, saving patients both time and money. Patients are treated by specialists in their particular field. For example, braces and Invisalign are performed by Doctors DeLuca and Etter, Orthodontic Specialists, while kids’ checkups are performed by Doctors Djeng and Levine, who are Pediatric Dentists. “I love this time of year because I get to see many of my patients. The beginning of the school year is a perfect time to get dental and orthodontic treatment squared away for the upcoming year,” remarked Dr. Irving Djeng, Pediatric Dentist. HDA has been treating entire families for generations – usually with appointments at the same time. On arrival, kids are put at ease and entertained in the kids’ area

about ballet and how it could benefit their other activities, such as athletes, musical theater students, color guard and cheerleaders. The encouraging and enjoyable atmosphere of this class provides the teens with an opportunity to gain strength, agility and grace alongside their peers. PBS provides a Pre-Professional Program for advanced students as well as a two-year Trainee Program, and is the bridge between the student phase of training and that of a professional career. Trainees are under consideration for ARB2, a development company for talented young dancers, after their first year in the program. The school offers Open Enrollment classes in a number of disciplines including ballet, modern dance, hip hop, CardioBallet, ComBo (conditioning for the mind and body), and more. PBS also provides classes designed exclusively for the male dancers of all levels. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced classes are available. Boys will study in both their own classes and their Level class with the rest of the students. Princeton Ballet School’s syllabus remains based on the same one that was created and developed by Mary Pat Robertson over her 30-year tenure running the school. Truly a labor of love, this excellent training tool has catapulted many students into successful dance careers. Premier early childhood education designed to prepare your child not only for school, but for life.

Princeton Ballet School (PBS), the official school of American Repertory Ballet, is now enrolling student for Fall 2018. Among the nation’s largest and most respected nonprofit dance schools, Princeton Ballet School offers classes for ages three and up. Classes begin September 10. “From our beautiful facilities to our experienced and nurturing faculty, classes at PBS provide dancers of every level the opportunity to grow as artists and as individuals,” says school director Pamela Levy. “We teach age and developmentally appropriate ballet technique classes that allow younger students time for movement exploration while providing advanced dancers the tools to become professional dancers, if they want to be.” PBS offers live musical accompaniment for its early childhood and ballet classes, and believes that every student deserves the opportunity to dance, regardless of financial ability. Last year, PBS awarded nearly $200,000 in need-based and merit scholarships. PBS early childhood classes are designed specifically for young dancers from ages three to eight and include Hand in Hand, Beginning Dance, and Children Ballet classes. For older dancers, PBS offers varying levels of ballet from introductory to advanced classes as part of its Conservatory Program for serious students seeking a more comprehensive and

Hamilton Area YMCA How Do I Know What Childcare Program Is Right For My Family? The experienced professionals at the Hamilton Area YMCA answer some common questions. With so many different options for childcare in our community, many parents can become overwhelmed. Fortunately, the Hamilton Area YMCA has provided quality childcare programs for children from pre-school through sixth grade for over a generation. Their staff put together a list of things to consider when choosing the right childcare program for your family. Is the program licensed? This is a must! By selecting a licensed program for both pre-school and before/after school care, you are ensuring that the program has met high standards for health safety and quality programming. You can rest assured that the staff-to-child ratio is appropriate, the staff has the requisite training and experience, and proper safety measures are in place. What is the program philosophy? Every childcare program has its

own philosophy and goals. For example, Y’s Owls preschool focuses on developing your child’s individual potential. Our before/after school program is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment that compliments the classroom experience. Youth Sports Club gives parents peace of mind that their middle school-aged children are being taken care of, while also developing healthy lifestyle habits, gaining selfconfidence, and building positive relationships with their peers. Make sure the program philosophy matches your family’s goals. What curriculum is used? A well-planned curriculum will shape your child’s experience. Y’s Owls uses the Creative Curriculum which is focused on learning through play. Teachers work with individual children to help them develop their skills in several key areas. In our before/after school program, children enjoy programs like Healthy U, art, STEM and also have access to homework support, indoor and outdoor physical activity and participation in service learning projects. Additionally, children are provided a healthy snack. Youth Sports Club draws on the experience of seasoned sports staff to encourage co-ed team participation in a variety of sports such as Soccer,

Basketball, Golf and Flag Football. How experienced is the staff? Our staff have over 100 years of combined experience and continuing education. We strive to be a partner you can trust. Our caring responsible staff hold CPR, first aid, and child abuse prevention certifications, and is committed to understanding and meeting the individual needs of our families. How does the organization communicate? You and your childcare provider need to work as a team in the development of your child. That’s why parent participation and visitation in Y’s Owls Preschool is encouraged, regular parent-teacher conferences are held, and there are many events throughout the year that include the family. In our before/after school and Youth Sports Club programs, parents are kept up to date through regular newsletters, social media and email communication. Will your child enjoy the program? You want a program your child will look forward to. Our Y’s Owls Preschoolers can’t wait to play with their friends, take their weekly swimming lessons, and show off their skills on our interactive StarBoard. Our before/after school students look forward to homework

help, arts and crafts, and sports and games, and YSC participants will experience the benefits of being part of a team, while building confidence when trying their hand at a variety of sports. They know the staff in our program has an exciting morning or afternoon planned for them when they arrive. Little Friends School The Best Kept Secret in Hamilton Thirty-six years ago Sandy Popko and her sister Carol Besler started Little Friends School on the property of 221 Edinburg Road, Hamilton. Sandy was a 25-year-old with a passion for education. The school started with Sandy as the owner, director and teacher. Today Little Friends School continues to thrive with Sandy operating the school along with her partner, Debbie Monahan, who took over for her sister 16 years ago. Little Friends School offers classes for children aged 18 months through kindergarten. They have a Toddler 1 class, for children 18 months to 30 months old, a 2 1/2 to 3-year-old class, as well as full and half-day classes for three and four year olds, plus a kindergarten class. Little Friends School is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Little Friends School is a licensed facility that meets all state guidelines. All classes, including before care, after care, summer camp and holiday care are taught by qualified teachers. Sandy says, "We foster a strong relationship with our families. The teachers are here for the children. They are kept safe, happy, and have fun while learning so the parents can rest assured their children are well taken care of while they are at work." Teachers work different shifts to ensure at least on of them is with their students at all points throughout the day. They do not rely on part-time staff to fill in for before and after care. Sandy continues: "The teachers here are really good. We've had children come here because our teachers have been here many years. Many times we get the chil-

dren of former students." Their fully day four-year-old teacher, Bonnie Gunzelman, retired in June, 2015, after teaching 31 years. She continues to visit the school and works as a substitute teacher. Debbie said "she has had kids grow up and come back with their children. They tell their children, 'I had Miss Bonnie.' She looks at them and says, 'Oh, you are back, all grown up!'" Other teachers have also been there for many years. Jan Fasiska, the kindergarten teacher, is continuing to teach after more than 30 years at Little Friends School. Miss Rosemarie Bonacchi has been there 18 years, as well as Jay Padmanabjan, who has been at Little Friends School 14 years. The curriculum at Little Friends School is "geared toward fostering skills needed for success in school. We strive to instill a love of learning in each child and celebrate their success along the way. Daily activi-

ties are designed to encourage and challenge each child's natural curiosity and instill skills that prepare children for later school success. We respect each child's individuality and strive to provide a curriculum that addresses the special interests of each child to achieve their full potential," explains Sandy. The curriculum is theme-based. Each month the theme changes, although pre-reading, math, science, language, and gross motor skills are built into each theme and remain constant throughout the year. Little Friends School is the "best kept secret in Hamilton." There are two buildings on the property with the main building not quite visible from the road. The front building houses for four-year-old and kindergarten classrooms, while the back building is where the 18 month to three-year-olds hold their classes. Children enrolling in the kinder-

garten class must turn five before December 31. The cut-off for kindergarten in Hamilton is October 1. Enrollment is open all year, as long as there is availability. They enroll between 10 and 12 students in the kindergarten class. The kindergarten class meets the state requirements for public school kindergarten. In addition to teachers, parents also play an important role in their children's education. "We work to foster strong relationships with the families enrolled in our program. We believe that teachers and parents should be partners in the education process," continues Sandy. After all, parents know their child best. Little Friends School, 221 Edinburg Road, Hamilton. GST Transport Family Owned & Dedicated to the Community Take a closer look the next time your child boards the bus for school. There’s a family behind the wheel: drivers and operators who are part of a family-owned business dedicated to the community for more than 20 years. “We are a family-owned and operated bus company that has roots back to 1969 when Peter and Wendy Brunt opened an International Harvester dealership,” says Katie Brunt-Avunduk, manager of GST and daughter of Peter and Wendy. “Over time the business model changed from selling tractors, to fixing cars and trucks, to operating buses. In 1997, when my brother Jonathan joined the firm, we began a new era of transporting students for local school districts. I joined our family business in 2009.” The family works side by side every day with their employees to provide safe busing for students in Robbinsville, Northern Burlington, Upper Freehold, Millstone, and many other communities in Central and South New Jersey. “Our motto is transporting the future. We take this job extremely seriously as the students we pick up every day are our future. They will be the next teacher, farmer, police officer, pilot, or president. We are proud to be a part of their journey every day,” says Brunt-Avunduk. “Many of our drivers enjoy watching their students grow up. They are there the first time they ride the bus as kindergarteners and watch them grow year after year.” “We forget that drivers have a unique position in the school community. A teacher may have a child in the classroom for a year, but the school bus driver may well see

them all the way through to middle and high school. We know how important it is for students to have a familiar face greet them every morning and say goodbye every afternoon. GST operates year-round and provides safe, reliable transportation during the year for both special needs schools as well as local school districts. “From field trips, sporting, and special events, we transport students, including special needs children, to summer day camps for day care and other local recreation programs,” says BruntAvunduk. “Because we are family-oriented, we are always looking for qualified individuals who would like to be part of our team. There is so much more to the business than driving,” she says. Positions available are school bus drivers, trip driver, school bus aides, and mechanics. “There are many benefits, such as having the same vacation time as your own children, flexible hours with parttime morning or afternoon-only shifts available, competitive wages, paid holidays, bonus program, 401(k) with employer match, extra income for retirees, and paid CDL training among others,” says BruntAvunduk. “We offer complete training for your commercial driver’s license. Our training staff will make sure you are prepared for your driving test and beyond. We are there for you every step along the way.” Area parents can take comfort in knowing that their child is watched over by another family who cares about their safety and wellbeing. GST Transport has seen generations of children to school and home again with pride and caring. Be part of transporting the future in your community. Contact Katie or Peter at 609-267-3380. The Lewis School of Princeton The Lewis School of Princeton is an exceptional school where generations of students who learn differently have overcome the frustration and anxiety associated with reading, writing, and schoolwork. Lewis is an independent, nonprofit, K-12 college preparatory day school, fully accredited by the NJAIS and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, and The Orton International Dyslexia Society. The school, which combines with its Center for Educational Testing and Teacher Training, is an established leader among respected programs offering research-based education to students impacted by dyslexia, ADHD, dysgraphia, auditory processing (CAP) deficits, dyscalculia (math) and inconsistent executive functioning. Our students’ unconventional approaches to language pro-

cessing are understood as learning differences that coexist with significant inherent challenges among children who are otherwise remarkably capable, creative, out-of-the-box thinkers. Learning at Lewis is individualized, structured, sequential, and multisensory in all subjects across the curriculum. Some children learn quickly and permanently, while others build skill sets carefully one step at a time. In the majority, students meet with success almost immediately. They begin to feel better about themselves and more confident and excited about learning. The Lewis School is a warm, enthusiastic, child-centered environment where Lewis-certified master teachers, learning specialists, and ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists tailor their strategies and mentoring to each child’s specific academic strengths and weaknesses, aptitudes and interests. Teachers and instructors at Lewis are trained in the underlying neuroscience of “Learning

and the Brain.” They keep current with cutting-edge innovation and are among the most thoroughly prepared and successful educators for children who learn differently in the country. The school’s Extended Day K-12 Programs provide students with exceptional options for enrichment, new learning, tutorial support, and the development of social intelligence and executive functioning. Children may choose STEM learning, robotics, 3-D printing and design, public speaking, speech department, writer’s lab or poet’s corner, theater and acting, visual and fine arts, competitive athletics, club sports or SAT and ACT PREP. The Lewis School curriculum is challenging, competitive, and parallels and/or exceeds the New Jersey State Core Curriculum requirements for high school graduation. Lewis is ungraded and also provides educational intervention and support for high school post-graduates, GAP year students, and col-

lege students looking to build stronger reading, writing, and study skills. The Lewis School does not define dyslexia as a reading problem in isolation. Dyslexia can affect language processing in a wide range of modalities expressed in the brain’s organization and mechanics of learning. Difficulties may be evident in auditory processing, written language, executive functioning, organizational skills, and memory systems. Current evidencebased research in education corroborates the efficacy and appropriateness of teaching and learning approaches that Lewis has used for decades. Our education combines wellknown remedial programs with Marsha Lewis’ proprietary system of teaching and learning, Lewis Integrated Multisensory Mechanics of Language and Learning. Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading, Linda mood-Bell, and the Fernald Method are simultaneous staples of teaching. The College PREP program (Preparing the Reach Exceptional Potential) is a standout Lewis School experience that thoroughly prepares students to navigate the academic rigors, social stressors, and the many opportunities of college life. This year, the graduates of the Class of 2018 were accepted to diverse colleges and universities, and together they were awarded $1.6 million in merit scholarship funding. Lewis PREP programs are completely individualized and designed to steer and support college-bound “seniors” through every step of the application process. This includes preparation for the SAT/ACT, and the foreign language requirements. A team of skilled, highly experienced advisors meets with their assigned students regularly, often daily on a set schedule, until all applications, essays, and required documentation is finalized. Students who qualify are encouraged to spend summers at other private schools, universities, or in programs abroad to explore special interests they may have. College PREP planning at Lewis has opened the door to extraordinary opportunity for thousands of Lewis School graduates. Our graduates have created an unrivaled legacy of excellence and achievement in their professional and personal lives. They have become championship divers in local and national competitions and Olympic trials; they are film-makers, artists and published poets; they have been accepted on scholarships to colleges and universities nationally and internationally; they serve as board members, law professors, and medical school instructors. Several are recognized members of Fortune 500 companies managing international wealth, private equity, and mergers. The following excerpt is from a letter written by Lewis alumnus, Frederick Beer. “I don’t know where I’d be today without The Lewis School. I was taught to work hard

and to value and respect learning differences there. The school helped me realize that learning differently as I do can be a positive attribute. I discovered that seeing and learning things in a different way gives me a unique perspective that is vital not only in my career but also in my life.” Fred attended The Lewis School during the 1980s and earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester. He was accepted to the Entrepreneurial Masters Program at MIT. Fred is a certified facilitator through the Creative Problem Solving Institute, co-founded Auregen Communications Inc., and was co-founder and board chair of Potential Point, LLC, where he spearheaded an award-winning project to help companies build high performance work cultures. Fred has been a member of the Rochester Junior Achievement Advisory Board since 1999 and is president of ITX Corporation. Recently, the Rochester Business Journal recognized Fred Beer as “a visionary entrepreneur.” Like so many others whose education and enrichment was shaped by The Lewis School, Fred Beer is helping to make the world a better place, with life at Lewis helping to create an extraordinary and successful life after Lewis possible. It in undeniable that alumni like Fred Beer are not only positive role models for children with dyslexia, but for all of us. See ad, page 3.

Dapper Bus A Family Behind the Wheel Take a closer look the next time your child boards the bus for school. There’s a family behind the wheel: drivers and operators who are part of a family-owned business dedicated to the community for more than 90 years. “We are a family owned and operated bus company that has roots back to 1927 when my grandfather, George Dapper Sr., began a transport business with horses and tractors,” says Carli Dapper, Operations Manager, proudly. “George Dapper Sr. began with only three buses and within just a few years he was building his own fleet. His son, George I. Dapper, began working full time with his father after he completed college and served in the army. They had 22 buses by that time. In 2010, the business had grown to over 500 school vehicles. George Dapper Incorporated is now one of the largest independent contractors of school vehicles in the state of New Jersey.” The family works side by side every day with its employees to provide safe busing for students in Robbinsville, Hamilton, West Windsor, Lawrence, Trenton, and many other communities in Central New

Jersey. “We take this job extremely seriously and we are proud to be a part of our children’s journey every day,” says Dapper. “Our drivers are loyal and devoted to transporting all of our children safely, and many have watched these students grow up along their route.” “We forget that drivers have a unique position in the school community. In many ways they are the unsung heroes of our business. They are the front line in safety and have an exceptionally complex job. They navigate roads in treacherous conditions, keep an eye on the children, and have had extensive training on what to do if something goes wrong. We are continually conducting background checks for new employees, administering monthly

drug tests, and updating TB tests and physicals. Our commitment to safety is unparalleled.” Dapper provides safe, reliable transportation during the year for both special needs schools as well as local school districts. “We transport all students, including special needs children. Our drivers and bus monitors are trained in CPR, wheelchair securement, and many other safety protocols,” says Dapper. Area parents can take comfort in knowing that their child is watched over by another family who cares about their safety and well-being. Princeton String Academy An early start to music education Autumn signals the return to school and for many children this will be the year they begin to explore the wonderful world of music. Third and fourth grades are typically the time when school programs begin but why wait to capture your child’s imagination? Princeton String Academy, conveniently located at 2 Colonial Avenue, Princeton Junction, offers premier training in string instruments. Founder Paul Manulik encourages parents to introduce their children early. “Because we use the Suzuki method of music education,” says Manulik, “we can start children on violin, viola, or cello at a very young age; sometimes as young as three or four. The Suzuki teaching method offers a natural learning environment premised on how children first learn to speak a language.” “Even though this area has wonderful orchestras in the public schools, why wait until the student is half grown to start a string instrument? Our faculty members are especially trained to teach the Suzuki

greatest potential. Our faculty and staff reflect our high standards of professionalism and musicianship.” Princeton String Academy offers private lessons which vary in length depending on the age, attention span, and playing ability of the student. Students advance at their own pace. With very young students, music theory and note reading is delayed until the student is ready. Group lessons offer students the opportunity to develop their ensemble skills in a noncompetitive environment. Students are grouped by skill and book level. In the Chamber Music Program, students have mastered note reading. Generally organized into trios or quartets, musicians here explore the vast repertoire of ensemble playing. Group lessons provide the opportunity for students to perform on a regular basis. “We also encourage our students to participate in state competitions, and we help

Princeton String Academy’s 2017 holiday concert at Quaker Bridge Mall. prepare them for their performance,” says Manulik. Clearly it’s never too early to launch your child into a world of wonder and music. Princeton String Academy. 609-751-7664 www.stringacademy. net. See ad, page 6.

Holding a Master’s Degree in Viola Performance, he served two long-term positions with the Cedar Rapids Symphony as Director of the School of Music and as Assistant Principal Violist. This dual career path gave him the invaluable benefits of knowing both the educational and performing aspects of the business. “I founded Princeton String Academy to offer the community a unique learning environment, one that focuses on string performance and yet offers the services and programs of a larger music school,” says Manulik. “Our multi-faceted learning environment enables our students to achieve top performance levels,” explains Manulik. “Students play in recitals at Carnegie Hall and in master classes with concert violinists and violists. Our students take top prizes in local and state competitions and are regularly selected for state and national youth orchestras. Applegarth Dental Welcoming patients to its new East Windsor facility Applegarth Dental & Orthodontics recently opened a brand new dentist facility in East Windsor NJ at 319, Route 130 (www.applegarthdental.com). To dedicate this new facility to the people of East Windsor, Monroe, West Windsor and South Brunswick, many dignitaries attended the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on July 18th. Mayor Janice Mironov from East Windsor, Former US Senator Robert Torricelli and NJ Senator Linda Greenstein and many local patrons, friends and family members of Dr. Navleen Kaur Thind, Dr. Pankaj Puri and Dr. Ruchi Majoo celebrated the opening of this new office. Dr. Navleen Thind set out to provide an extra-ordinary quality of dental treatment in a very relaxed, calm setting in 2015 when she planned the opening of her first practice in the Township of Hamilton. With the blessings of the community and the trust of her patients, her team has grown rapidly in Hamilton and Trenton. She has teamed with her old friend, an Orthodontist, Dr. Pankaj Puri, to build a very modern and aesthetically designed practice in the Township of East Windsor. Applegarth Dental & Orthodontics brings her new concept in the Dentistry services to our town. The team at Applegarth Dental & Orthodontics has pledged to provide the best dental care to their patients during hours that suit them the best. The new office shall be open 7 days a week with regular appointments available on Saturday and Sunday. To complement the convenience of their flexible hours, walk-ins and 24 hours emergency on-call services are available. Providing a complete family care — the new office caters to adults as well as children, and makes it a unique offering in Mercer County — offering all General Dentistry services, and Specialist services under one roof including Orthodontics, Implants, Oral Surgeries, etc. SPA themed dentistry is coming up in many parts of the nation, and Applegarth Dental & Orthodontics proudly looks forward to serve the local community in East Windsor, West Windsor, Monroe and South Brunswick with these amenities. Dr. Thind is a local resident in Mercer County and lives in neighboring Lawrenceville town — and is a very active member of the local society. A graduate of New York

University Dentistry program, she received advanced training in Dentistry during her Residency at UMDNJ. She loves her patients and has a great following with many families preferring to drive in order to visit her for treatment. “I call everyone who enters the practice as my guest; and expect to provide them with the same comfortable hospitality as they would be visiting us at our home”, says Dr. Thind. She worked very closely with her architects to design the reception area like a living room; and carries this concept throughout the treatment rooms. She firmly believes that a lot of anxiety can be relieved with the welcoming attitude, comfortable and aesthetic features like specially designed waterfalls in each treatment room. Dr. Puri is a very experienced Orthodontist in the State of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, having applied his great clinical skills and great bed side manners to facilitate numerous practices expand their practice to provide Specialty Orthodontics work. The Rech Center for Performing Arts Cheers to 15 Years! When Kelly was in fifth grade, her teacher asked her to write an essay about what she wanted to be when she grew up. This was probably one of the easiest homework assignments she ever had. She wanted to open her own dance studio. Dance was her favorite thing to do. Kelly thought her own dance teachers were amazing and wanted to be just like them. How exciting would it be if she got to be the boss, choose the recital songs and pick out everyone’s beautiful costumes? For the next seven years, Kelly continued to take classes, go to conventions and comKelly will tell you that those experipete in numerous dance competiences were fun and exciting howevtions. Fast forward to her profession- er; the most rewarding journey in her al career as a dancer. Some highprofessional dance career has been lights of Kelly’s resume include; being that of a dance studio owner. In a member of the Philadelphia 76ers 2004, Kelly’s childhood dream came Dance Team, Principle Dancer for true and she opened the doors to her Opus 1 Modern Dance Company in very own dance studio, The Rech Philadelphia, a dancer for the Miss Center for Performing Arts. She Renee Riddle-Davison—Instructor New Jersey and Miss America Pagchose the name, The Rech Center, in eants, and a dancer in numerous honor of her parents who always enproduction shows in Atlantic City incouraged her to work hard and follow cluding the world renowned “Legher dreams. ends in Concert”. making her childhood dream come true. What she thought would be the best part of owning a studio, like choosing songs and music ended up being just a small part of a much greater experience. The most fulfilling is how The Rech Center has touched her students’ lives. At TRC, its not just about teaching the steps, but about the life lessons students learn from participating in dance classes. Dancers need to be dedicated, learn the value of making commitments, teamwork, understand the importance of working together, perseverance, not taking criti-

cism personally, setting goals, time management, problem solving, and learning how to handle anything from challenging choreography in class to recovering gracefully from an onstage tumble. Over the past 14 years, it has been a pleasure to watch friendships blossom among her students. She is very proud that her “TRC” students have gone on to dance in college, dance professionally and have chosen careers in the entertainment field. The most rewarding part about this journey for Kelly is watching her former students teach and choreograph at her studio. “Its really a full circle moment, when you stand back and watch a former student, teaching a beautiful combination that she choreographed, to a room full of eager students with passion in their eyes and smiles on their faces”. Dance Classes are so much more than learning the steps, and The Rech Center is so much more than a place to dance. The Rech Center offers recreational and competitive classes for all ages, including a Creative Movement Program for our Preschool dancers. If you are interested in learning more, please call 609-585-6515 or visit their website www.rechenterdance.com The 15th Anniversary Season begins on September 10th. See ad, page 11.
