CHIEF SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is an important supervisory and technical position responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the Village Sewage Treatment Plant. General direction is received from the Superintendent of Public Works but wide leeway is allowed for planning work methods and dealing with operational conditions. Supervision is exercised over operators, trainees, laboratory personneland other maintenance personnel. Must maintain records and prepare electronic SPDES DMR and other required report forms. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Thorough knowledge of practices used, equipment required in the operation & maintenance of the Village of Arcade Sewage Treatment Plant and associated facilities; • The ability to interact with the public, elected officials, professional consultants, NYSDEC and NYSDOH regulatory officials, and vendors; • Good knowledge of principles and application of physics, chemistry & bacteriology as applied to sewage treatment and disposal; • Ability to supervise the operation and repair of pumps, valves, related mechanical and electrical equipment; • Ability to make and interpret laboratory and field tests required for control of activated sludge plant operation; • Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; • Mechanical aptitude; • Computer skills, primarily Microsoft products • Alertness and dependability; • Good physical condition ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: • Graduation from high school and at least five years working experience as a municipal Sewage Treatment Plant Operator in a similar type treatment plant • Must possess a New York State driver’s license • Must possess a valid New York State 3A or higher Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification Excellent compensation and benefits package.
