Lockport boys looking forward to playing in new home rink, still have small roster By Nick Sabato SPORTS REPORTER
The ice hockey program at Lockport has gotten a face lift. With the opening of Cornerstone CFCU Arena, it gives the Lions a legitimate home rink for the first time in years. The new rink in Lockport gives the program hope that the city will start to see an influx of hockey players, but for now, the Lions are forced to go with a small roster and will trudge through early-morning practices. “We are just going to do our best with what we’ve got,” said Lockport captain John Ottaviano. “It’s just a little bit more work.” With just 20 players on the roster, the load will fall heavily on two lines of forwards and two pairs of defensemen 2014-15 Fed Schedule Dec. 1 vs. Lew-Port 6:45 p.m. at Hyde Park 1 Dec. 12 vs. Niagara Falls 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Arena Dec. 14 vs. Amherst 6:45 p.m. at Harbor Center 1 Dec. 19 vs. St. Francis 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Arena Jan. 2 vs. Sweet Home 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Arena Jan. 4 vs. St. Mary’s 4 p.m. at Northtown Olympic Jan. 9 vs. St. Francis 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Arena Jan. 12 vs. Lew-Port 8:45 p.m. at Hyde Park 1 Jan. 15 vs. Niagara Falls 5 p.m. at Hyde Park 1 Jan. 18 vs. St. Mary’s 7:30 p.m. at Niagara University Jan. 23 vs. North Tonawanda 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Arena Jan. 30 vs. Grand Island 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Arena Feb. 2 vs. North Tonawanda 8:45 p.m. at Hyde Park 1 Feb. 6 vs. Amherst 7:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Arena Feb. 8 vs. Sweet Home 4 p.m. at Northtown Olympic Feb. 13 vs. W. The Lockport boys hockey team is looking to build on a season in which it went 3-12-1. to carry the Lions through the season. Only six of those 20 players are seniors, so it will give the underclassmen some experience and a lot of playing time this year. One of those underclassmen is Ottaviano, who saw significant minutes last season as a sophomore registering five points. He was voted as the team captain this year. The junior leader feels that this squad has a lot of chemistry, especially since many of the players are on the same travel teams outside of Lockport. “I have a couple of guys from my travel team on this Lockport team,” said Ottaviano. “We have chemistry and kids get along well so we should have a good season.”
Lockport lost its top three leading scorers from a season ago, but it will return many players like Ottaviano that saw meaningful minutes. HEAD COACH: Rick Eberhart COACH’S OUTLOOK: “I think we are going to be competitive in the league that we are in. I’m hoping for .500 or better with the competition that I saw.”
One of those players is junior Kellen Corrallo, who scored four goals and tallied five assists last year. But he will be asked to take on a much bigger role 2013-14 RECORD: 3-12-1 KEY PLAYERS: F John Ottaviano F Kellen Corrallo F Dom Morreale F Zach Long D Ryan Niedzialowski D Matt Scott D Drew Gmerek D Brennan Bailey G Jack Igoe
this season and he feels that the squad is much deeper in talent despite having fewer numbers. “We have two amazing lines this year,” said Corrallo. “Last year we had one good line and an iffy line. This year we have two really good lines. It’s kind of a competition to see who is better, actually.” Corrallo and Ottaviano will be joined up front by assistant captains Dom Morreale and Zach Long, as well as JV call-ups Ryan Boci and Dylan Skalman. On the back end, Ryan Niedzialowski returns after dishing out six assists in just 11 games as a junior. He’ll be joined by Matt Scott, Drew Gmerek and freshmen Brennan Bailey. Lockport head coach Rick Eberhart is happy with his power
play and penalty kill units; he just knows that his team is limited by numbers. “Our power play looks good, our penalty kill looks good, we just need more bodies,” said Eberhart. “We lost three guys because of grades. So they have to get their grades up in order to be eligible to play. Those are key players. We should have four lines instead of two-and-a-half to three.” With sophomores such as Skalman and Gmerek and freshmen Bailey and Boci, it gives the Lions some hope for the future, especially when players begin to flood in through the JV program in the next couple of years. A limited roster means that handful of players will be seeing significant ice time this year, so fatigue will undoubtedly be a factor, which is why they brought in a strength and conditioning coach to help manage the team through tired legs. It also means that Lockport will most likely face a fair number of shots and goaltender Jack Igoe will be ready for the task as he comes back for his second season as the starter. The junior posted a 2-7-1 record last year with a 3.89 goals against average in 12 appearances, but he is ready to show that he has taken the next step in his development now that he has a full year of experience under his belt. “You get a lot of experience in your first year,” said Igoe. “You get used to the shots and the power of the kids that you play against. You should be able to do a lot better in the second year than in the first year.” With just two lines, it means that Igoe may have to play a little more conservatively this season when it comes to hanging on to pucks to get whistles or when to play pucks in his own zone. “We have a solid set of defense, the problem is that we just can’t get them to play all of the minutes we want,” said Igoe. “We have to play a little more conservatively or hold onto the puck a little bit more to give the players a chance to change and get fresh legs on the ice.” Lockport will open play with the Nichols Tournament this weekend (Nov. 28 and 29).
Newfane swim hopes Lockport spiker commits to Penn State to become force in N-O
By Nick Sabato SPORTS REPORTER
Newfane has evolved into a swimming powerhouse over the past few years. This been particularly true on the girls side, as Newfane has not only one the NiagaraOrleans League for five consecutive seasons, but it has not lost a league meet in that time span. That kind of success can be a good and a bad thing for the Panthers, as a successful program does not have to worry about interest in the sport, but on the flip side, the expectation to win can overshadow how hard it takes
to do so. “Unfortunately, it’s a double-edged sword,” said Newfane head coach Jim Cavaretta. “They don’t think they are ever going to lose again, which is bad because at some point, they are going to lose, but it gives them the fire to continue to drive to make sure that they don’t lose again. They know that we keep score, so it can happen at any time.” The Panthers, they will not only have some key pieces back in the pool this year, but they only have five seniors on the squad. One of those key pieces just happens to be one of the top swimmers in the league in Allie DeBiase, who has won the breaststroke in the NO each of the last three seasons.

Jason Donorovich has dominated the Niagara Frontier League and has led Lockport to its first sectional title in school history. Now he is taking his abilities to the collegiate level. Donorovich officially signed with Penn State to become the first Lockport volleyball player to sign a letter of intent to play for a Division I school. The decision to become a Nittany Lion came down to the fact that State College, PA provided him the opportunity to play for a Division I powerhouse that is not too far from home. “It was close to home,” said Donorovich. “Close enough

The Marauders, who have won states three out of the last four years under coach Rich Crozier, had a less than impressive start to the 201314 season, going 5-9-1. But they hit their stride at midseason with a strong showing at the prestigious 2013-14 RECORD: 17-10-1 KEY PLAYERS: Anthony Pontello Connor McKenna Drew Monahan Matt Ruggiero Ben Higgins Justin Crawford

St. Joe’s parlayed that showing into a near-unstoppable run that saw it win 12 of its next 13 games and culminated the year with a 2-1 win over St. Anthony’s (L.I.) to claim the NYSCHSAA title. It’s a run of success that Crozier has defined as a culture of success. “Anyone that went through the journey with us last year, which was a unique year in terms of the way we were able to turn things around,” Crozier said. “I’m going to lean on them.” But as they enter the new year, the Marauders are once again faced with moving forward after losing key pieces, most notably starting goalie Peter Chopra,

Parity in the league is something that needs to be considered.” One of the swimmers that could carry the Panthers to a league championship is sophomore Drew Hamelink, who was undefeated as a freshman in the breaststroke. Hamelink will also branch out to some other events, which could bring in a ton of points for Newfane in meets. “I was recommended to join the Titans of Tonawanda and haven’t done much swimming before that,” said Hamelink. “I’ve improved from the help of coaches and swimming against people that are better than me that can help my stroke.” Freshman Thomas Schultz should also have a strong season, as well as distance swimmer Mitch Dockery to go along with Hamelink in their pursuit of a league championship. Expectations high for Barker swim
“Swim” from page B1 As DeBiase enters her junior season, she has done a tremendous amount of swimming over the summer to help her reach a goal of breaking the school and league record in the 100-meter breaststroke. “I swam for multiple teams that I know that will make me a lot better than what I am now,” said DeBiase. “Staying in the water definitely helps, along with a lot of weight training and endurance training.” Freshman Lauren Seymour will be a strong factor in the league this season, as well as junior distance swimmer Lydia Gaughran. The Panthers have a tremendous amount of youth, with one swimer in seventh grade, eight eighth graders and two freshmen on the roster. While youth has its perks, it also puts underclassmen in positions of leadership. But swimmers like DeBiase have learned from those before her to help make that transition smoother. “Since I’ve started I’ve always looked up to the older girls to see what they have done the best,” said DeBiase. “It’s hard because now I’m the older girl so everyone looks to me. You have to be able to set a good example.” On the boys side, Newfane will look to challenge a historically dominant Roy-Hart team for the top spot in the league. With Roy-Hart losing a tremendous amount of swimmers from last year and Newfane only losing one swimmer, Cavaretta believes that there are a number of teams in contention for a league championship. “The boys in the league should be interesting,” said Cavaretta. “Roy-Hart lost a ton of swimmers so that

seniors Anthony Pontello, who will anchor the defense, and third-year varsity players goalie Ben Higgins and center Justin Crawford (17 points). Crozier described Pontello as a dynamic player with a long reach who is physically strong and able to play in any situation. Senior Matt Ruggiero, a big physical winger who had 19 points last season, also returns. Ruggiero will be a force in front of the net opposing defense men will have trouble moving. Senior forwards Drew Monahan and Connor McKenna also return. “It’s hard to say this year. We’re going to be missing some key pieces,” Crozier said. “So we’ll look for those (returning) guys to fill those gaps (leadership).”

After finishing near the top of the league in both boys and girls swimming last season, Barker is primed to make a move this year. The Raiders finished second in the Niagara-Orleans League on the boys side and tied for third on the girls, so expectations are high for the team this year. “I think we are just excited to see what we can do in the non-league,” said Barker head coach Michael Gendrue. “That will give us a better indication of
what we can do in the league.” Barker will have a number of girls returning this season that either reached the sectional meet or even the crossover meet last year. Renee Levy will be the top returning swimmer for the team, along withAllisonAustin, sophomore Christiana Carestia, freshmen Sara Gendrue and Natalie Menz, and sprinter Emma Jenks. “We have a lot of talent coming back,” said Levy. “We have a lot of older swimmers coming back, not too many seniors, but I’m expecting better times from everybody. We have been improving so far this season and I think we are going to do some big things this year.” There is a tremendous amount of talent in the pool for the Lady Raiders, but the key will be getting the younger swimmers
to step into the spots of those who graduated from last season. That doesn’t seem to be a problem for Barker, as it is extremely confident in what it brings to the table. “This year we have a lot of people that have to step up in place of seniors who left,” said Jenks. “They were some big talents on the team, so we have a lot of people who need to step up and take it, but I think we can do it.” Gendrue will lean more on a core group of seniors on the boys side, which has a handful of swimmers that can make a big impact in the N-O. Casey Webb and Alex Goodlander will look to lead by example for a few underclassmen such as freshman Collin Webb, who was a half-second away from making the state meet a season ago.
“I’m trying to get the guys team to win the league championship this year,” said Casey Webb. “Last year we went 12-2 and finished second to Roy-Hart in the league. I’m also trying to get some relays to qualify for states with Alex Goodlander, Collin Webb and either Andrew Jenks or Patrick Demarais.” The 200-meter freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay teams will have high expectations this season, as will several individual events. Those high expectations have the Raiders believing that they can contend to knock off perennial champion Roy-Hart for the league championship. “We do have a good group of core swimmers that are coming back,” said Goodlander. “We are trying to go for the league win this year and I think we can do it.”
Perennial swimming powerhouse Roy-Hart set for 2014-15 season By Nick Sabato SPORTS REPORTER
A high school athletic program doesn’t get any more dominant than what Roy-Hart has put together in boys swimming over the last eight seasons. The Rams have won eight consecutive Niagara-Orleans League championships and they have also won 114 straight dual meets. That record might be challenged this year, but the girls look to break through to the championship platform after finishing second to Newfane each of the last two seasons. “We have a great turnout this year,” said Roy-Hart head coach Bruce Matthews. “We have a lot of guys that are learning a lot so it’s kind of a different year.
It’s kind of a rebuilding year. I’m seeing a lot of good stuff. Something really neat is that I have 10 middle school girls. Having them in seventh and eighth grade is great because it means they are going to have a long high school career.” Roy-Hart lost 14 seniors from last season, so there will be a lot of new faces this year, but they also have several faces in the pool which give them a greater chance to earn points in meets. The success of the program over the past decade has helped ensure that Matthews will continue to get boys to come out for his team each year. “It does help feed itself because you get a lot of kids that want to be a part of this group,” said Matthews. “Also, they know what we expect.” The Rams do have some talent returning with seniors Ray Sack and Denzel Flowers, who will blend in with swimmers such as Tanner Rees, Mason Sparks and Nate Mikoll.
Twins Matt and Tim Maines could have the potential to have breakout seasons along with Tanner Bullmer and Jack Daly to help keep Roy-Hart’s rein stay intact. While the boys are looking to maintain their championship form, the girls are looking to break through the ceiling. Roy-Hart has the potential to become a powerhouse, not just this year but for years to come because of the number of young swimmers that are in the program. “We have been second the last couple of years to Newfane,” said Matthews. “What I’m looking at now is that we have a lot of younger girls. We have five seniors this year and then the influx of the middle school kids is going to boost up the girls and make them bigger and stronger.” The seniors that are on the team will likely make a big impact for the team in the pool this year as Sara Meal,Alivia Nocera, Hannah Rausch and Lindsay
Yates will all be key factors. Some younger swimmers such as sophomoreAlex Hill and eighth grader Emilia Peracciny will continue to bring in points. It will be those middle school girls that will be the biggest factor in the success of the girls in league play this season. “I think our seventh and eighth grade girls are going to surprise a lot of people,” said Matthews. “They have great technique. Most of them came from the Sea Lions program and I think they are going to surprise some people.” With the amount of talent on the team, there is no reason that Roy-Hart will not be in the discussion for a league championship at the end of the year. If that young talent can continue to learn from the upperclassmen and continue to improve, the Rams could be a force in the N-O hierarchy. Roy-Hart opens the season with a road meet against Attica of Section V on Dec. 2.
Senior led Lockport to sectional title in 2013 “Spiker” from page B1 That is also when the now 6-foot-8 star began to evolve as a player, as the interest from so many schools had given him much more confidence in his ability, according to Lockport head coach Joe Whalen. Once he started playing with similarly dominant players, Donorovich began to learn how to place the ball on hits and began to hit the ball from all over the court as opposed to one spot.
“He was 6-foot-5 as a sophomore,” said Whalen. “I didn’t know how he would progress, but the club program that he got involved in helped his focus change. Once he started playing with people with similar skills and realized that they were going to schools, I think he felt like there was no reason he couldn’t do this. His confidence level was one of the biggest things that changed.”
During his career at Lockport, Donorovich helped lead the Lions to back-to-back NFL championships and to the first sectional championship in school history in 2013. As the first Lockport volleyball player to sign a Division I letter of intent, it is safe to say that he is one of the greatest players to ever put on a uniform at the school and this signing will go a long way in helping to
add interest in the sport. “Any time you get that positive attention and have players that people see not just in Lockport, but in Western New York go on to play at a top-notch program like Penn State, it makes people think they’d like to play that game,” said Whalen. “That’s the best part of it. I think it makes the younger players say, ‘I can do that.’”
For Donorovich, the feeling towards Lockport is just as fond is it is towards him, as he has tremendous respect for what Whalen, athletic director Pat Burke and the rest of Lockport have done to help him both on and off of the court. “Lockport has a really great support system,” said Donorovich. “Between Mr. Burke, Mr. Whalen and all of my teammates, they always push me.
They never let me get down on myself. Even when I have bad games they are always there to support me and make sure I push myself. Coach Whalen never let me get down on myself.” Next fall, Donorovich will be part of a program that has produced 81 All-Americans, 16 consecutive Big Ten Championships (29 overall) and two national championships.

If you ever get stuck in the winter season, be prepared by keeping these emergency items handy in your vehicle: a spare tire, wheel wrench, jack, shovel, jumper cables, tow and tire chains, salt or cat litter, working flashlight with extra batteries, bright cloth, first aid kit, ice scraper and snow brush. Extra clothing such as gloves, socks and hats, a blanket, a 12-volt charger for a cell phone, as well as non-perishable foods and bottles of water or juice are vital should you become stranded. Being prepared is the best offense against winter driving. Take it slow, be safe and buckle up. Additional safe driving tips can be found on the Erie County Clerk’s website www.erie.gov/clerk.

Students celebrate National Manufacturing Day at local company
SUBMITTED
Students from the Precision Machine Technology and Welding Programs gather at Schrock Metal Products in Akron. The beginning of October saw the third anniversary of National Manufacturing Day. The day was designated to be a day that American manufacturers open their doors to show the importance of inspiring young people to pursue careers in manufacturing and engineering. Students and teachers in the Orleans Career and Technical Education Center’s Precision Machine Technology and Welding programs were invited to Schrock Metal Products in Akron. Schrock does custom fabrication and makes pieces and parts for various companies. They have done everything from making parts for heat exchanges to lighting parts that were used for the French fashion house Louis Vuitton. Bill Rakonczay’s and Eric Farrell’s classes and many of their parents met with Melisa Schrock, who co-owns the company. “We have a soft spot for kids,” she said. “Especially those who are interested in jobs in manufacturing. We are in desperate need of welders and machinists. That is why we contacted Mr. Farrell a year ago in hopes that we can get some workers right out of school
that we can train, who will embrace our vision and can grow with us.” The visit stemmed from a conversation that she had with Farrell. “I was complaining to him that some workers have no work ethic and don’t even know how to dress appropriately,” Schrock said. “I told him he needed to tell his students how important that is and he turned it around and said, ‘No you need to.’” The group got an overview of the company along with a tour and then had a question and answer period. “The parents and students asked a lot of great questions and enjoyed seeing a real work environment,” said Schrock. “It was great to have the parents join their children so they can see that manufacturing jobs have come a long way from the Bethlehem Steel days where it was dirty and most of the workers ended up getting sick. We are very high tech. It is very computer driven. We actually just bought a $2 million dollar piece of equipment and we are only one of three companies in the country that have one. We offer a clean environment and ev-
ery day is different from the next because of the jobs we handle.” Schrock said she wanted to impress on the students and their parents that manufacturing is a good career where they can make enough money to support a family if that is what their future plans hold. “The truth is honestly college is not for everyone and it is no guarantee of a job when you graduate. There are a lot of places that need workers with special skills and BOCES is great for providing them,” she said. Farrell says that the visit was a huge success. “I got a lot of thank you letters from the parents for showing us the career potential for their children. Skilled trades are in demand,” he said. “There are roughly three millions jobs out there that companies are having a hard time filling and only 12 percent of them require a college education.” He stresses that he is not saying, don’t go to college. “I think it is important for everyone to have a skill to fall back on,” Farrell explained.

Niagara Hospice to hold Light-A-Life ceremony Niagara Hospice RN Arica Caskey and her daughter, Annika Caskey prepare for the upcoming Light-A-Life event to be held at Niagara Hospice Dec. 6. The Niagara Hospice Alliance will hold the annual Light-A-Life Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. The non-denominational
event will be held beneath the Dominic Lariccia Family Pavilion located behind Niagara Hospice House at 4675 Sunset Dr. in Lockport. The popular family event is open to the community and is especially meaningful to those who wish to remember someone special to them who are now gone. Individuals and families are invited to memorialize
loved ones by purchasing a memory tag that will be displayed on the Niagara Hospice Light-A-Life trees. Tags and more details are available by calling 280-0766 or by visiting the Events Page at www.NiagaraHospice.org. Other commemorative memorial items are also available for a small donation. Farm Museum gets into holiday spirit to thank community By Sallie Moppert NT SUN CORRESPONDENT
Santa Claus is making a special trip to the SanbornLewiston Farm Museum this December. Santa’s special appearance will be a part of the Farm Museum’s annual Christmas at the Farm event that will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14. This is the third year for this holiday event. “This is always such a fun event,” said museum curator Bonnie Haskell. “We love this event because it is all about making the kids happy and having a good time together as a family and as a community.” The Christmas at the Farm event began three years ago. Haskell and former curator Linda Jackson came up with the idea as a way for the museum to say thank you to the community for its support throughout the year and also as a fun event for children and families to enjoy. Even though Jackson has since passed on, the event is still going strong and brings
many smiles and lots of good cheer to the community. Christmas at the Farm is a free event. The fun afternoon will begin with a lunch that includes dishes such as bean soup and roast beef, along with kid friendly foods such as hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. There will also be a dessert table set up with various sweets and treats. Santa Claus will be at the museum from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. Children will be able to meet with Santa and parents are welcome to take photos of their children on Santa’s lap. The museum will also have tables set up with holiday crafts for children to make and a table set up with items from the gift shop in case anyone would like to do some holiday shopping while at the event. The museum itself will be decorated for the holiday season, including ornaments, lights and antique holiday displays. “People always tell us that seeing all of the antique decorations that we have set up every year is like going back in time. The old fashioned decora-
tions are just beautiful,” Haskell said. “I think that this year’s decorations and displays is one of the best that we’ve had throughout all of the years of doing this event. I think the decorators really outdid themselves this year.” The museum is planning for hayrides during the event, but with the questionable weather in the area, the tractor hayrides will only be held if the weather is permitting. Unlike other events at the Farm Museum, the museum will not be open to the public during the Christmas at the Farm. “This is more of our way to say thank you to the community rather than a fundraiser for the museum,” Haskell explained. “We had over 200 kids between the two days during last year’s event so things are pretty busy but very fun.” The Sanborn-Lewiston Farm Museum is located at 2660 Saunders Settlement Road in Sanborn. For more information, contact Haskell at 9906909 or visit www.sanbornhistory.org.

Decorate a gingerbread house this Christmas
Open letter to all living, playing near proposed industrial wind turbines At the Somerset Town Board meeting held on Nov. 8, I introduced myself and told the town councilmen that I, Cathi Orr, had recently relocated a farm of 100 acres from Wyoming County to the quiet of Somerset to escape the negative impacts of an Industrial scale wind factory complete with nearly 500 foot tall turbines, escaping miles of overhead and underground high voltage electric lines installed in the beautiful countryside, connecting turbines. All the turbines worldwide produce only about 2 percent electricity. And now, I am facing the same horrendous assault I managed to escape in Wyoming County. Apex Energy LLC is proposing to erect 65 to 70 industrial turbines 570 feet high- massive bird and bat killing machines taller than the Statue of Liberty slated for the northern region of the towns of Somerset and Yates, within a mile of the Lake Ontario shoreline. This area not only includes homes and farms, but is also in the region of one of the greatest migratory flyways in North America. Thousands of raptors, including golden and bald eagles, migrate along the Lake Ontario shoreline annually. Imagine the painful, bloody avian slaughter that will likely occur for the life of these turbines.
For residents, the negative impacts of each turbine this size can be felt throughout a five mile radius, and yet the World Health Organization only recommends a one and a quarter setback from people’s homes. My Orangeville neighbors and myself, have lived through six years of fighting to preserve our homes and beautiful countryside from soulless government political decisions at the expense of our health, safety, welfare, and property values. I believe that if concerned citizens living in the red zone of Lake Ontario from Lake Road (Rt. 18) and south to Haight Road , as well as those who enjoy boating, fishing and recreational activities here will join together, we can defeat this proposed insanity. Further, although wind only produces worldwide 2 percent electricity, power rates soar because the wind doesn’t blow 24/7, so fossil fuel has to be called to backup this inefficient, unsustainable, government subsidy scam. This cost to the taxpayer is at least 65 percent. For residents, the physical and emotional health effects of living near wind factories have been documented worldwide over the past 30 years. Excessive noise, shadow flicker, and dangerous infrasound which have
been acknowledged in projects as close as Orangeville, Wyoming County, and can be learned about on www. windaction.org. In addition to constant visual clutter, and low frequency vibrations, TV and cell phone interference has been reported. . Michael McCann from Chicago is a certified real estate appraiser in several states with 30 years experience in property damage claims. He has studied wind farm impacts on properties located in and around industrial wind factories since 2005, and has written substantial documented reports in which he puts property value loss at 20 to 100 percent. As a result, he advises towns to have a Property Protection Plan put into play making Big Wind LLC’s responsible for loss of property values, See McCann’s report on property values on the Great Lakes Wind Truth website. It is essential to retain an independent lawyer. Dividing a town and pitting neighbor against neighbor has been the history of these wind LLC’s due to the negative effects of the industrial scale turbines that drive many people from their homes. Somerset, Yates, and our precious Lake Ontario skyline will never be the same because of these mon-
strous, imposing structures. Apex Energy LLC is currently in the middle of ongoing lawsuits, one being a class action lawsuit in Oklahoma to stop a project before it is even started. Lastly, if these wind turbine facilities are so “green” and beneficial, why do you think 60 people living or forced out of their homes because of negative impacts in and around Orangeville, Wyoming County, N.Y. are suing Invenergy LLC for $40 million? I urge town officials from Somerset and Yates to take a ride, visit Orangeville and talk with town residents, your opinion of industrialization by wind turbines will be forever changed. All it takes for excessive government” green” scams to triumph is for good men to do nothing. Concerned citizens affected by this project, both residents and recreational users, those who will be impacted by the loss of home rule are now forming a Lake Ontario Preservation coalition, Save Ontario’s Skylines (S.O.S.).
