Spirit of Transportation peddles into Buffalo By Catherine Miller COURIER CORRESPONDENT
You may have noticed that with the continued enthusiasm in the Buffalo biking community that the area at Michigan and Swan has given birth to Buffalo’s first area dedicated to local peddling enthusiasts. Opened now is a montage of movement motivated venues combines to form “The HUB”. A mixeduse area of loft apartments, bicycle-themed restaurant and pub known as the HandleBar, and the Hub-Fit Studio exercise center for those especially motivated to work out once they arrive on bike. If you are unsure exactly where to find “The HUB” – venture
down to 149 Swan Street and look for the large antique bicycle standing tall outside of the newly opened, large brick building. Artist Sarah Fonzi is the creator of the antique-wheeled Penny Farthing bicycle sculpture dubbed “The Spirit of Transportation”. Looming sixteen feet off the ground and adorned in masterful metal-work detailing, it seems almost improbable that the structure was created by a petite, 28 year old artist who stands just over five foot tall. Sarah Fonzi spoke about her most recently erected work at Buffalo’s Steel Plant Museum on Nov 5, and gave in-depth insight into her process and inspirations, describing
various methods of working in steel and metal mediums for her works. Displaying expertise with regard to various types of metal casting Fonzi shared knowledge with other artists and ex-steel workers alike at the South Buffalo Steel Plant Museum that is noted for its Wednesday guest speaker series. And nurture they did. Growing up in Buffalo Sarah Fonzi attended Nardin Academy before leaving the area for her creative calling. She trained in art, sculpting and metalwork in Savannah, Georgia at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has carved stone in France and worked with mixed mediums in Buenos
Aires and Rio de Janeiro. With an art degree including a concentration in Sculpture and a minor in Museum Studies, Fonzi returned to set her roots once more in Buffalo, where she has completed a number of commissioned metal sculptures and has recently gravitated towards unique Buffalo themed pieces, including the recent HUB sculpture that blends the green-themed bicycle with tree-like elements. For more information on the works of Sarah Fonzi visit her at The Foundry, 298 Northampton Street, from noon to 5pm the second Saturday of each month.
Artist Sarah Fonzi stands beside her “Spirit of Transportation” at The HUB, 149 Swan Street.

Hydraulic Hearth to host reading and book signing
Talking Leaves…Books, in conjunction with the Larkin Square Author Series, is pleased to announce that we will host a reading and book signing with two acclaimed novelists, Brock Clarke and Bill Roorbach, who share a publisher (Algonquin Books) and who have each recently been touring with their new works of fiction. We bring them together to appear at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 at the Hydraulic Hearth, 716 Swan St., across the street from Larkin Square. The Hearth will have available a selection of freshly brewed Buffalo beer (from Community Beer Works, which will have a satellite brewery there, and from nearby Flying Bison)
to go with the intoxicating (or is it sobering?, maybe both) work we’ll hear from the visiting writers. Beer aficionados, and fans of our fair city, the authors suggested we pair them with local brew when we proposed that they visit. The event is free and open to the public—anyone wishing to have a book signed is expected to purchase it from Talking Leaves, as an act of respect and support for the authors and the independent bookstore who is sponsoring their visit (in collaboration with the Canisius Contemporary Writers Series and the UB English Department’s Exhibit X Series). Brock Clarke has made well-received visits to Buffalo for both Canisius and
UB series in the past, in support of his short fiction and earlier novels. His new book, “The Happiest People in the World,” is a spy novel/ comedy of errors that brings international terror and conspiracy to a small Upstate New York town – it is incredibly funny and unbearably sad in equal measure. Clarke is the author of “Exley” and “An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England,” which was a national bestseller and has appeared in a dozen foreign editions and three other books. He lives in Portland, Maine, and teaches creative writing at Bowdoin College. Novelist, blogger, nature writer and essayist Bill Roorbach has not, to our knowledge, previously
read in Buffalo, but he has visited Talking Leaves and spent some time here, impressed enough that he is eager to share his work with us, in the company of fellow Maine resident Clarke. His recently released novel, “The Remedy for Love,” drops two strangers into a shabby, ramshackle cabin in the Maine Woods in the midst of a monster snowstorm. Character driven, and laced with subtle humor, the book, like Clarke’s, plays with readers’ expectations – it is a quirky romance, a suspense novel and a field guide to survival in the midst of one of nature’s cataclysms; funny, poignant, sad, thrilling and unpredictable.

Flying Bisons land in South Buffalo By Catherine Miller
COURIER CORRESPONDENT
Their mission is simple. To brew good beer in Buffalo. The location they are brewing in has changed. The Flying Bisons Brewing Company celebrated the opening of their new location in the heart of South Buffalo at 860 Seneca Street with a Grand Opening celebration on Nov 8 and thousands of patrons came to welcome them to their new home. The students at Niagara Falls Culinary Institute presented Flying Bisons with an ice sculpture of the Flying Bisons logo, complete with ice encased Flying Bison bottle caps, that welcomed patrons as they entered the outdoor tented party. Rev. Greg Jakubowicz blessed the first keg to be tapped at the new brewery and offered a prayer for success for the owner, Tim Herzog, and his crew and friendship for all patrons that visit. The Frankfurters offered up German polka tunes throughout the afternoon event and played nearly continuously on the accordion and various wind instruments as glasses were being raised for the first time at the new Flying Bisons retail location. Celebrants echoed German refrains of “Oy, oy, oy” while
Owner Tim Herzog and Rev. Greg Jakubowicz toast the crowd near the Flying Bisons Ice Sculpture, created and donated by the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute. enjoying the fine craft beers, and the scent of German fare drifted over from the Black Market Food Truck. For a moment, it felt like you were in Munich. Now opened, there is more to come to the Flying Bisons facility. “We will be offering tours of our facility on Thursday, Friday and Saturday each week,” stated Vinnie Somogyi, retail manager of the facility, “You can also schedule a group tour at any time by calling our office.” Thursday and Friday tours start at 6pm, and

Saturday tours are held at 1 and 4 pm. The tours are inside the brewery and are informational, free and reservations are not required at the pre-set times. In addition to tours you can do tap tastings during the open hours, noon to 8pm Thursday through Saturday, and purchase 4 oz samples or flights to assist with decisions on your next favorite craft brew. The retail area boasts a large, open table-filled area where you can join friends to sample and compare the craft lagers. If you have an empty growler, bring it in as of Nov
13 and you can purchase a refill – or a keg for your next holiday gathering. The facility is sleek, sophisticated and filled with some of the best hops Buffalo is known for. Rusty Chain is their popular on tap brew, but venture out from this local favorite and you will find a plethora of thumb raising variances including a new beer that is quickly growing in popularity, a Simcoe Wheat IPA, lighter than the Flying Bisons previous variations. “We have our Simcoe Session Wheat out now, in draft only,” stated Herzog, “We expect that MacBison Scoth Ale will hit the local taps before Thanksgiving. If you don’t find us at your favorite spot, please ask that they carry us and don’t hesitate to call the brewery. We will pay a visit and see if we can get on tap.” The Flying Bisons are in good company in their new quarters. With the nearby Hydraulic Hearth opening expected soon, Gene McCarthy’s OFW recently opening up its brewing around the corner and the Barrel Factory around the bend housing great area malters, it appears that the new Flying Bison location is sitting at the edge of Larkinville and in the heart of Lager Town. Where else would they rather be?

Buffum House work progresses By Catherine Miller
COURIER CORRESPONDENT
A preservation party was held Nov 6 to benefit the continued restoration of the 49 Buffum Street House. The area’s oldest home soaked in history and heritage, has been under reconstruction for a number of years, since a post-fire resurrection of the home began at the request of a group of concerned citizens and public leaders. The preservation party, held at the Cazenovia Resource Center, acknowledged the various people that have led the effort to continue work on the reconstruction of the
49 Buffum Street House. CJ Urlaub, President of Mercy Hospital and William Ruff of The Ruff Foundation were just two of the many people that were recognized for their contributions to the restoration efforts of the house. “I would like to thank the community for the work that they have put in to the home,” stated Matt Fisher, Community Development Coordinator at the Old First Ward Community Association and one of the initiators of the reconstruction project, “The project got started because of concerned neighbors.” Fisher noted that after
Assemblyman Kearns honors CJ Urlaub of Mercy Hospital at the Buffum Street House Preservation Party. the fire at 49 Buffum Street in 2008 it was the area residents that first notified Fisher, then the area’s Housing and Community Liason and Assemblyman Michael Kearns, who was a city councilmember at the time, of the need to save the future of the area’s oldest home. “When I first heard about the house and the rich history behind it I thought if we can’t save our oldest home, how can we save our neighborhoods,” stated NYS Assemblyman Kearns. Since the onset of the restoration program Kearns, Fisher and others have worked tirelessly at the reconstruction and renovation of the home. While various companies have donated time, materials and planning efforts, neighbors in the area have picked up shovels, paintbrushes and tools to assist and fill in the gaps when the general contractors and companies completed their portion of the project. While much progress has been made, there is still much to do. “The plan is to use the
facility as a history and heritage center, as well as offer hospitality rooms for people that have family members at Mercy Hospital,” noted Kearns. Assemblyman Kearns has been successful in blending educational resources with his other ventures including the Sail Buffalo Boating Center which now includes a science pavilion and floating classroom made of repurposed materials and the Cazenovia Resource Center which continues to act as a privately maintained library center for area residents. The historically significant home at 49 Buffum Street was the first home built in the South Buffalo area. Built by Horace Buffum, an early white settler, who was in residence on the land when the area was occupied primarily by Native American Indians, there are also indications, in story and in physical attributes of the home, that the house was later used as part of the Underground Railroad. In the mid to late-1800’s the Buffum and Fields
area was also the home of Humphrey Tolliver, a freed slave who married an Irish immigrant. Tolliver served as the grounds man for the nearby Native American cemetery. At the corner of Buffum and Fields Ave still sits Indian Park, known to be the original final resting place of many of the chiefs of the Seneca Indians. The combined backdrop of each of these early residences demonstrates just a portion of the history and information that is available in this neighborhood, and the same history that will be reflected at the 49 Buffum Street House, once it is completed. “I have six children,” stated Fisher “And I can imagine them someday coming to the Buffum House as adults and finding information on the history of the area through this historic home.” If you are interested in contributing to the restorative efforts of the 49 Buffum Street House contact the office of Assemblyman Mickey Kearns at 608-6099.

He was captured and spent six years in a POW camp. Seven years after receiving the inaugural award, he is still in awe that the award is in his honor. “I was honored. Every year for the last seven years, the United States Postal Service honors one of its own military veterans for his or her courageousness and dedication, both in the service and to the post office. This year, with the sun shining on an uncharacteristically warm November morning at 1200 William St. in Buffalo, John Light, a veteran of the Vietnam War, was honored with the Frank E. Cius Award in front of a crowd of about 50 postal employees and veterans. Light, who has worked as a letter carrier for the post office for the last 34 years, was drafted to serve in Vietnam at the young age of 19. After serving three years, he was honorably discharged when a booby trap went off, injuring both his legs. “It was tough, especially being away from home for the first time,” Light said. “It made you grow up real quick.” An emotional Timothy McKibbin, Light’s boss, presented the award to him, giving a moving speech. “Only by the grace of God, and the dedicated
John Light, the man of honor, and his wife Mary. surgeons and nurses who helped him through his wounds was he able to survive and return home in one piece,” said a tearful McKibbin, who also nominated Light for the award. “I was scared. The war was already going on so you knew where you were going,” added Light, who was awarded a Purple Heart and Combat Award among others for his service. “It was just a matter of making it back hopefully.” After the nomination from McKibbin, the post
office’s Veterans Committee, composed of Marty Siminski, William C. Maygar, Kenneth V. Brown Jr., Elena Franjoine, David M. Lisowski and Patrick Gunning, unanimously chose Light. “It was a no-brainer. Not only with the job he did over in Vietnam, but also the way he goes about his job here at the post office,” Gunning said. “He does his job the right way, and is an extremely hard worker.” Also in attendance was Cius, whom the award was named for. Cius, also a vet-

Sweet Home returns to Section VI throne, defeats South Park in Class A finals at Ralph Wilson Stadium By Tom Gallagher SPORTS EDITOR
The Sweet Home football team entered the season eager to prove that 2013 was an anomaly. The Panthers fell to Williamsville North in the Class A title game at Ralph Wilson Stadium a year ago. The loss ended an impressive reign of Section VI supremacy exhibited by the Panthers, who had won a sectional championship in each of the six seasons prior. A return to normalcy was something they’d been striving for this year. “We’ve wanted to get back and be a sectional champ because we think our program is good enough to be that,” Sweet Home head coach John Faller said. They proved they were good enough on Thursday (Nov. 6). University at Buffalo-bound senior Brandon Smiley’s second touchdown reception of the contest — a 15-yard score on fourth down with 4:47 left — gave Sweet Home a lead it would never relinquish in the team’s 27-18 Class A championship victory over South Park at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Panthers (9-1) earned their seventh sectional title in eight years with the win. “This puts us right back where we want to be,” Faller said. “We’ve worked hard to get to this point. And we got it done tonight.” They did it at the expense of an on-the-rise program in South Park, which became
the first city school to play at Ralph Wilson Stadium since Buffalo schools joined Section VI in 2010. The Sparks, an athletic team with a knack for the big play, threw everything they had at Sweet Home and even led for a chunk of the fourth quarter. But ultimately, the perennial power Panthers — and Smiley, in particular — proved to be too much to handle. Trailing 18-14 with less than five minutes to play, Sweet Home took a timeout facing fourth-and-10 from the South Park 15. The Panthers knew where they were going with the ball. QB Kevin Torrillo dropped back to pass and found Smiley to his left just inside the end zone for the go-ahead strike. “He played amazing,” senior running back Jordan Evert said of Smiley, who finished with six catches for 66 yards, four rushes for 31, 12 tackles and a forced fumble. “I knew if you give him the ball, he’d make plays. He’s a playmaker. That’s what he does. I’m proud to have him on this team.” “Kevin put the ball where it had to be. He knew [Smiley] could go up and get it and he did it,” Faller added. “Big-time players make big-time plays in big games.” The Panthers weren’t done making big plays just yet. On the ensuing kickoff return, Sweet Home’s Nyamekyi Daniels forced a South Park fumble that teammate Josh Cornelius jumped on to give the Panthers the ball in Sparks territory. Evert added a 23-yard touchdown rush for insurance moments later. For Sparks coach Tim Delaney, it was a disappointing end

Daryl Moore caught two touchdown passes in South Park’s Class A finals loss to Sweet Home Nov. 6. Moore also had a pair of TD receptions in the semifinals a week earlier. to a game his team wasn’t just in, but ahead during. That disappointment was punctuated by the fact that, according to Delaney, the officials picked up a flag that would have negated Smiley’s second touchdown, the go-ahead score. “There was a player offsides. They threw a flag,” Delaney said. “They threw a flag, picked it up. Smiley made a great play; he’s one of the best football players I’ve coached against. But for it to come down to that is just uncalled for.” Still, it was another successful season for Delaney’s
Sparks (8-2). They won the Class A South division title for the second consecutive year and posted a spotless record in league play. Their only other loss came in a Week Two defeat to St. Francis. “I’m proud of our kids,” Delaney said. “I’m proud of the way they represent our program. We really played a good game tonight and I couldn’t ask for our guys to play much better.” South Park opened the scoring late in the first quarter when Tyree Brown found receiver Daryl Moore, whose
one-handed touchdown grab went for 23 yards with 3:11 left in the opening frame. It didn’t take Sweet Home long to answer. Torrillo’s throw to a wide-open Jordan Heine, who ran a wheel route, resulted in a 35-yard touchdown strike just over two minutes later. A successful PAT gave the Panthers a 7-6 lead. Torrillo finshed 17 for 28 for 168 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Smiley forced a South Park fumble that was recovered by Matt Ortiz on the Sparks’ next possession and added his first
touchdown — a spectacular 23-yard reception — just a few plays later to push the Panther lead to 14-6. After a Sweet Home drive stalled, South Park marched down the field and found the end zone when Brown heaved a 35-yard bomb to Danny Gerace for a score that pulled the Sparks to within 14-12. Sweet Home was within 2 yards of pushing its lead to 2012 early in the second half, but two straight plays of negative yards and a false start penalty by the Panthers backed them up to the Sparks’ 10. Torillo’s pass on third down was picked off by Mike McDonald, who returned it to the 39. The Sparks took the lead a few plays later when Brown and Moore connected for the second time of the night and fourth of the last two games. The Sparks missed the conversion attempt after the 17-yard scoring play and held an 18-14 lead late in the third. Sparks’ receiver/defensive back Antonio Leonard added an interception on Sweet Home’s next possession, but the South Park couldn’t turn it into points. That’s when Smiley and the Panthers took over. Sweet Home took on Section V champion Irondequoit (6-3) on Friday, Nov. 14. Results weren’t available at press time. Before the game, Faller said he’s excited for his seniors to move onto regionals. “It’s another title, but we’re more concerned with these seniors getting back here and getting a chance to go out with a sectional championship and now move on to the third part of the season,” Faller said. “We’ll see how far this class can take themselves.”

Timon excels despite key losses from 2013 team By Mike Pidanick SPORTS REPORTER
A lot of the key names were lost from Timon’s 2013 boys soccer team, which claimed its first league title since the 1970s. The success, however, stayed in South Buffalo. The Tigers enjoyed another banner season in 2014 as Timon dominated in the regular season and then successfully defended its IAC/ MMA small schools championship. “It’s a great feeling,” Timon coach Tom Finn said. “Two championships in the three years been with the team, I feel honored to be a part of this team.” Timon finished the year at an impressive 18-4 and swept its way to a regular season division title as well. Not bad for a team saw Aaron Gould
graduate and Japanese foreign exchange students Eiki Sakugawa and Eiki Akiyama depart. But Drew Johnson and Kyle Kostek returned and the veteran leaders provided the leadership the Tigers were expecting. Johnson scored 11 goals and added 17 assists and Kostek led the team with 19 goals and added 15 assists. Both were the hot topic when Monsignor Martin Athletic Association small school awards were discussed. “I have the offensive player of the year and I just couldn’t decide which one,” Finn said. “Do you pick the one that scores the goal or the one that passes to him all the time? As it turns out, we were able to work it out where they got CoOffensive Player of the Year. “Statistically, Kyle was a little better. But Drew was the heart of the team.” Goalkeeper Brady Rogers earned Defensive Player of the Year amongst small schools, as he won 16 games and posted 13 shutouts. “The top awards all went
to kids from Timon, so that’s certainly a tribute to what these kids have done.” Johnson and Kostek headlined a strong senior class that also included: Patrick Robinson, Patrick Graham, Claudius Modi, Scott Baron, Patrick Kobis, Christian Smartz, Sean Lauber, Ben Burke, Ben Burke, Julian Gamble and Josh Benham. But even though the Tigers are losing a ton of talent, the expectations remain high with more quality players ready to step into the forefront. We have a developing JV program,” Finn said. “The last couple of years we’ve been trying to scrape together a JV team, this year had a solid 15 players that will be the nucleus for next year’s team.” The 2013 team won Timon’s first MMAA small schools title since 1978 and the 2014 team kept the trophy. And in 2015, the hopes will not change. “Our goal next year is the same, go for the three-peat,” Finn said.

“Take a $50 bill, light it with a match and watch it burn!”
I’m serious. Go ahead and do it. What? You refuse? DO it anyway and see how it makes you feel. Painful wasn’t it? (Or were you just too chicken?) Well, guess what? Every day you run your furnace, you might as well take a $50 bill, light it with a match and watch it burn. Here’s why: That’s what your furnace is doing to you now. How do I know this? Simple. I know your furnace probably hasn’t been rejuvenated to factory fresh condition since the day it was installed. And every hour of every day it runs, it gets a little further out of adjustment, wasting slightly more gas for every unit of heat, costing more and more to operate. So, what can you do about this annoying situation? I’m glad you asked. Again, the answer is simple. Have a professional heating technician rejuvenate your furnace. To get the job done right, it will take about one and a half hours and $200 worth of labor and materials. The nice thing about a service like this is it usually
pays for itself several times over during the course of the winter... ...And if you call me for the service, not only will I have one of my top technicians do your rejuvenation for only $79, I will also guarantee your furnace won’t break down for the rest of this winter season. If it does, I WILL REFUND 100% OF YOUR MONEY. Why am I doing this for a price that’s below my total cost? Once again, it’s simple. I have just increased my capacity to handle an additional 125 new clients. And rather than lose money for the time it usually takes to attract that many clients, I thought I’d just pass that amount along to you in the form of savings and what I hope is an irresistible offer. There you have it. You can’t lose, no matter what happens. The only danger you have is waiting too long and missing out on the opportunity. Our Super-Tune Up can save you up to 33% off your utility bills! Call now for your appointment... 694-8524.

Hydraulic Hearth to host reading and book signing Talking Leaves…Books, in conjunction with the Larkin Square Author Series, is pleased to announce that we will host a reading and book signing with two acclaimed novelists, Brock Clarke and Bill Roorbach, who share a publisher (Algonquin Books) and who have each recently been touring with their new works of fiction. We bring them together to appear at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 at the Hydraulic Hearth, 716 Swan St., across the street from Larkin Square. The Hearth will have available a selection of freshly brewed Buffalo beer (from Community Beer Works, which will have a satellite brewery there, and from nearby Flying Bison) to go with the intoxicating (or is it sobering?, maybe both) work we’ll hear from the visiting writers. Brock Clarke has made well-received visits to Buffalo for both Canisius and UB series in the past, in support of his short fiction and earlier novels. His new book, “The Happiest People in the World,” is a spy novel/comedy of errors that brings international terror and conspiracy to a small Upstate New York town – it is incredibly funny and unbearably sad in equal measure. Clarke is the author of “Exley” and “An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes
in New England,” which was a national bestseller and has appeared in a dozen foreign editions and three other books. He lives in Portland, Maine, and teaches creative writing at Bowdoin College. Novelist, blogger, nature writer and essayist Bill Roorbach has not, to our knowledge, previously read in Buffalo, but he has visited Talking Leaves and spent some time here, impressed enough that he is eager to share his work with us, in the company of fellow Maine resident Clarke. Roorbach is the author of nine books of fiction and nonfiction, including the Flannery O’Connor Prize and O. Henry Prize winner “Big Bend,” “Into Woods,” “Temple Stream” and the bestselling “Life Among Giants.” His craft book, “Writing Life Stories,” is used in writing programs around the world. He taught for many years at Ohio State University, and now lives and writes in Maine, frequently blogging, with fellow writer Dave Gessner, at billanddavescocktailhour.com. For more information about this event of sterling literary fiction with freshly brewed beer in a stunning new venue, contact Jonathon Welch at Talking Leaves, 837-8554, or email tleaves@ tleavesbooks.com.

Dog Ears Bookstore, located at 688 Abbott Rd. in Buffalo, will host author Jim Ostrowski for a book-signing event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15. Ostrowski is a trial and appellate lawyer from Buffalo. His book, “Progressivism: A Primer on the Idea Destroying America, was released in September. Drawing on 45 years in politics, law and the Liberty Movement, Ostrowski deconstructs and demolishes the idea that has dominated American life for longer than any of us has been alive. He lays the hidden premises of progressivism bare for all to see and then shows how they have led to the destructive policies that are dragging America down. The book not only diagnoses what is wrong with America but proposes numerous and detailed strategies and tactics for what individual Americans can do right now to battle progressivism. Ostrowski graduated from St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in 1975, obtained a degree in philosophy from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1980 and graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1983. He has written a number of scholarly articles on the law on subjects ranging from drug policy to the commerce clause of the constitution. His articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, The Buffalo News, Cleveland Plain Dealer and Legislative Gazette. Presently, he is an adjunct scholar at the Ludwig von Mises Institute and a columnist for LewRockwell.com. He and his wife Amy reside in North Buffalo with their two children. For more information about the nonprofit community bookstore, visit www.dogearsbookstore.org or call 823-2665. Dunkin’ Donuts supports WNY animals Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all-day, every-day stop for coffee and baked goods, will offer Western New York residents a reward for good behavior when they show support for the second-oldest humane society in the country. Now through Dec. 5, all participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations throughout the greater Buffalo area will offer guests a special heart-shaped donut as a
thank you when they make a $1 donation to the SPCA Serving Erie County at participating restaurants. The initiative marks the fourth year in a row that Dunkin’ Donuts has partnered with the SPCA Serving Erie County. The program has raised more than $30,000 since its inception in 2011. “Dunkin’ Donuts is honored to support the SPCA Serving Erie County, which provides high quality care and educational programs to support fair and humane treatment of animals in Western New York,” said Tammy Monks, field marketing manager, Dunkin’ Donuts. “I encourage residents throughout the greater Buffalo area to enjoy a special treat at Dunkin’ Donuts while supporting the SPCA Serving Erie County. I am confident our loyal guests will enthusiastically raise funds for such a vital organization.” The specialty donut is a yeast shell filled with cream and topped with blue frosting in honor of the SPCA Serving Erie County. The availability of the heartshaped donuts leads up to the 11th annual Radiothon to benefit the SPCA Serving Erie County, which will return to the airwaves on Dec. 3-6. During the fourday event, local radio stations WBEN 930 AM and 107.7 FM and Star 102.5 FM will give a voice to the animals through a live broadcast from the SPCA’s headquarters in Tonawanda to raise funds for the SPCA Serving Erie County and its services. For more information about the SPCA, visit www.YourSPCA.org. To learn more about Dunkin’ Donuts, visit www.DunkinDonuts.com or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
