Cheektowaga author develops special series of books COURIER CORRESPONDENT

Keith White, Jr. never intended to be an author. He wrote here and there, submitted some reviews to web sites for fun, but never thought he would become a serious author. Until he found a reason to write. It all started when his middle son, Andrew, began having difficulties in school. He couldn’t concentrate on schoolwork, homework or in class; White took him to a doctor, and he was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, and neurological problems including motor and tic disorders. Seeing a child struggle in

school is the last thing that a parent wants to witness, and when Andrew started coming home with assignments to do book reports, White saw a way to help. “That year, they wanted all the kids to read two books a month and write book reports on them,” he said. “Andrew was having trouble getting through one book in a school year, let alone two a month. I asked his teacher if it would be okay for me to write a book, and have him write a book report on it. She agreed, and I started writing.” That first book was “Andrew and the Pirates”, and when his own Andrew came home, beaming in pride and holding the “A” that he’d gotten on his book report.... that was the only motivation

that White needed to keep writing. Now, he’s written 19 Color-With-Me Adventure books. More than just books for parents and children to read, each book has 10 chapters followed by a picture based on what was just read. The picture is an extremely practical part of the book; it’s a fun, interactive activity for kids to color the picture, it’s a break from reading, and, as it relates to the previous chapter, it helps them learn to retain and remember what they’ve been reading.

Get the most of holiday business By Debra Kelly

COURIER CORRESPONDENT

With the holiday shopping season looming right around the corner, it’s the perfect time for local small business owners to get some tips and pointers on how to maximize their reach to their customers and their community. The Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce will be presenting the third of their educational seminars, geared toward helping those of the business community make the most of all the tools at their disposal. Holiday Campaigning for your Small Business will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at Empire State College in the AppleTree

Business Park, located at 2875 Union Rd., Suite 34. Registration will start at 8:45 a.m., and the seminar itself will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Registration fee is $12, and a continental breakfast will be included. “This seminar will benefit companies looking to promote their products and services for the upcoming holiday season,” said Debra Liegl, President and CEO of the Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce. “Many of the concepts presented at this seminar can also be used for other marketing campaigns throughout the year.” With online shopping presenting even more of a competitive option for people looking to simplify their holiday shopping, it’s more important than

ever to reach out to the community in every way possible and to make the best of all the promotional tools available to get people away from their computers, away from the big box stores, and through the doors of the small businesses that make up the backbone of the community. The Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Small Business Administration to being the seminars to local business owners. Holidays about Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday, and making sure that a business is ready for their holiday campaigns well in advance of the Thanksgiving weekend. With more and more customers browsing online

even before heading out to the stories, it’s increasingly crucial to have a strong commercial presence in a number of places – and they’re going to help small businesses do exactly that. From using email and Twitter to online discounts, coupons, and word of mouth across social media, it’s not enough today that businesses know their customer base – they also have to know how to reach new customers, and compete with businesses not just next door, but on the other side of the country. The Small Business Administration has a number of resources available on their web site as well, located at www.sba.gov/offices/district/ny/buffalo.

USPS honors one of its own in beautiful Veterans Day ceremony

By Debra Kelly

By Rebecca Gunning

COURIER CORRESPONDENT

LOCKPORT STAR EDITOR

Every year for the last seven years, the United States Postal Service honors one of its own military veterans for his or her courageousness and dedication, both in the service and to the post office. This year, with the sun shining on an uncharacteristically warm November morning at 1200 William St. in Buffalo, John Light, a veteran of the Vietnam War, was honored with the Frank E. Cius Award in front of a crowd of about 50 postal employees and veterans. Light, who has worked as a letter carrier for the post office for the last 34 years, was drafted to serve in Vietnam at the young age of 19. After serving three years, he was honorably discharged when a booby trap went off, injuring both his legs. “It was tough, especially being away from home for the first time,” Light said. “It made you grow up real quick.” An emotional Timothy McKibbin, Light’s boss, presented the award to him, giving a moving speech. “Only by the grace of God, and the dedicated surgeons and nurses who helped him through his wounds was he able to survive and return home in one piece,” said a tearful McKibbin, who also nominated Light for the award. “I was scared. The war was already going on so you knew where you were

John Light, the man of honor, and his wife Mary. going,” added Light, who was awarded a Purple Heart and Combat Award among others for his service. “It was just a matter of making it back hopefully.” After the nomination from McKibbin, the post office’s Veterans Committee, composed of Marty Siminski, William C. Maygar, Kenneth V. Brown Jr., Elena Franjoine, David M. Lisowski and Patrick Gunning, unanimously chose Light. “It was a no-brainer. Not only with the job he did over in Vietnam, but also the way he goes about his job here at the post office,”

Gunning said. “He does his job the right way, and is an extremely hard worker.” Also in attendance was Cius, whom the award was named for. Cius, also a veteran of the Vietnam War, was part of the crew chief in a helicopter that was shot down. He was captured and spent six years in a POW camp. Seven years after receiving the inaugural award, he is still in awe that the award is in his honor. “I was honored. I just couldn’t believe that the post office was going to create an award,” said Cius, who worked at the post office for 22 years. “I didn’t

realize the full extent of it until after I got the award. My name was going to be handed off to someone else to receive this award.” Cius believes this year’s ceremony was the best so far, and thinks it’s important for people to be understand what’s going on in the world as well as recognize the job former and current military personnel are doing. “I think we should have more recognition for the troops. I think it’s good to know what’s going on,” he said. “If you don’t want to serve, you should be aware of what’s going on around you.”

For the past year, the 143rd Assembly Seat has been the site of some major controversy over the past year. From investigations of harassment to the misuse of public funds, it’s been pretty clear that everyone in the district has been ready for a change. Angela Wozniak has made history by simply being elected, but according to her, she’s not going to be slowing down any time soon. “It’s an incredible victory today to make history tonight,” she said of her win. “As soon as I get to Albany, I want to start a new ethics reform. I want to go in that direction to start putting trust back into elected officials.” That trust has been sorely lacking not just on the community level, but throughout the political realm. And Wozniak’s election seems to indicate that people are ready for a change. She’s the first Republican to hold the seat in decades, a surprising party swing in an area that’s been mostly Democratic for as long as most voters can remember. A graduate of Lancaster High School and D’Youville College, it was college that first got her interested in politics on a community level. After graduating with a degree

in Business Management and as the owner of her own small business – The Angela Wozniak Agency, which sells insurance – she became increasingly familiar with the impact that local and state governments have on the small businesses that make up the backbone of the community. Elected to the Cheektowaga Town Board in 2012, Wozniak is undoubtedly a familiar face around Cheektowaga. That’s unlikely to change, either, as it’s being able to make a difference for her community that’s been driving her to break record after record, even before being elected to state assembly. Even on the town level, Wozniak was the first Republican on the board in 18 years, the first female Republican ever, and the youngest council member ever. She’s already made headlines, often being the only one opposing council policies and practices; she’s already been speaking out against conflicts of interest, party bias, and increased spending. For years, Wozniak has continued to express her frustration at the practices and policies that have negative impacts on the taxpayer – and now she’s heading to Albany, promising to continue to work on a platform devoted to the taxpayers. Wozniak, her husband and her son live in Cheektowaga.

‘Girl Code’ star comes to Buffalo By Lauren Kirchmyer ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER

Syracuse native Jessimae Peluso grew up making her family and friends laugh. As she grew older she decided she never wanted to work for a boss, so she moved to Boston to work on improvisation and stand up comedy. In 2006, she packed her bags and moved to New York City. “It takes a long time to get funny,” she said, stating it takes a combination of ambition, humility and taking risks to make it in the comedy circuit. “I love connecting to random strangers by talking to them.” Peluso found her best shows happened when she remained as genuine as possible on stage. One day, while performing stand up in New York City, her raw and unpredictable sense of humor attracted the casting directors of MTV’s “Girl Code” and she was invited to audition for the show. “Being approachable and

Though she has had many memorable milestones in the short amount of time she has been working professionally, her most memorable moment took place when she was shopping at her favorite store with her mom in Syracuse last Christmas. “A girl came up to me when we were at Marshall’s. She said I was her favorite girl from ‘Girl Code’ and asked if she could have her picture taken with me,” Peluso recalled. “My mom was so excited and was beaming with pride. It was a special moment for me. I’m doing all of this for my family. I want to be able to take care of them.” Peluso will visit Buffalo – for her first time ever – to perform at Helium Comedy Club, located at 30 Mississippi St. in Buffalo. ‘Weekend Update’ anchor connected to the Queen City By: Lauren Kirchmyer When Seth Meyers left the desk of “Weekend Update” on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” fans were wondering who would replace him. Although it looked as though it would be cast member Cecily Strong, Lorne Michaels asked the show’s head writer, Colin Jost, to fill Meyers’ shoes alongside comedian Michael Che. “Getting ‘Weekend Update’ has been the biggest moment of my life,” Jost said. “To perform on ‘SNL’ and be part of the cast and tradition is really cool.” But if you look at his life prior to his “Saturday Night Live” career, you may be surprised Jost is where he is today. “There are many people in my family history who worked in the engineering industry,” he explained. His father, an East Aurora native, worked for Struthers Wells in Buffalo, prior to moving to New York City to work for Procter & Gamble. Jost, on the other hand, enjoyed making people laugh while growing up in Staten Island. In sixth grade, he and his friends convinced their teacher to let them perform skits from “Saturday Night Live” for the class. When it came time to decide what he wanted to study for his undergrad however, Jost picked something far from comedy. The Harvard graduate studied the history and literature of Russia and Britain because he enjoyed reading. “I didn’t know I could have a job in comedy. I thought it was just

a fun thing to do on the side.” When he graduated college, Jost decided to submit a packet of his writing to “Saturday Night Live.” He didn’t hear back and six months later submitted a second packet. This time he received a phone call and went in for an interview with the show’s head writer, Tina Fey. She liked Jost and he moved on to another interview, with Michaels. “At the end he was like, ‘I’ll be seeing you around,’” Jost said about the show’s creator and producer. “I was not sure what it meant. Then I got a call interpreting what Lorne said and I started the next week.” His writing received a lot of laughs and Jost worked his way up the “SNL” writing

chain, earning him Emmy nominations along the way. Some of his favorite skits include when the cast sang Billy Joel’s “Goodnight Saigon” on Will Ferrell’s finale show, when Jonah Hill serenaded his “wife” for their anniversary and when Vanessa Bayer portrayed Miley Cyrus after her performance on MTV’s Video Music Awards. His favorite guests to write for are the ones who have an inherent comedy in them, such as Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifanakis and Emma Stone. He hopes to someday have the chance to write skits for comedians Eddie Murphy and Stephen Colbert, as well as actors Kate Winslet and Michael Keaton. Outside of “Saturday Night

Live,” Jost enjoys performing stand-up shows. “I’m a lot looser and goofier than the news anchor character I play on ‘Weekend Update,’” he said. To prepare for his shows, Jost spends time exploring the cities he’s performing in. Last week, Jost performed at Bear’s Den Showroom at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino. Before his show, he explored the American and Canadian sides of the falls and roamed around the city his father grew up in. “It’s so beautiful,” he said about the area. “It’s really cool to wander around and see the town.” Jost is also working on starting a career writing screenplays for movies. “It’s the hardest writing process because there’s so much going on. You have to make the script unique and funny and interesting for the viewer.” After having multiple screenplays rejected, or being accepted but having nothing created, his first movie finally came through. “Staten Island Summer,” a film filled with “Saturday Nigh Live” cast members about lifeguards who are spending their last week of summer together before they go away to college, is expected to be out in the spring or summer of 2015. “I’ve learned I’m pretty resilient,” Jost said. “If you really want something, stick with it and work at it. Eventually you will break through in some way.”

Dunkin’ Donuts supports WNY animals Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all-day, every-day stop for coffee and baked goods, will offer Western New York residents a reward for good behavior when they show support for the second-oldest humane society in the country. Now through Dec. 5, all participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations throughout the greater Buffalo area will offer guests a special heart-shaped donut as a thank you when they make a $1 donation to the SPCA Serving Erie County at participating restaurants. The initiative marks the fourth year in a row that Dunkin’ Donuts has partnered with the SPCA Serving Erie County. The program has raised more than $30,000 since its inception in 2011. “Dunkin’ Donuts is honored to support the SPCA Serving Erie County, which provides high quality care and educational programs to support fair and humane treatment of animals in Western New York,” said Tammy Monks, field marketing manager, Dunkin’ Donuts. “I encourage residents throughout the great-

er Buffalo area to enjoy a special treat at Dunkin’ Donuts while supporting the SPCA Serving Erie County. I am confident our loyal guests will enthusiastically raise funds for such a vital organization.” The specialty donut is a yeast shell filled with cream and topped with blue frosting in honor of the SPCA Serving Erie County. The availability of the heartshaped donuts leads up to the 11th annual Radiothon to benefit the SPCA Serving Erie County, which will return to the airwaves on Dec. 3-6. During the fourday event, local radio stations WBEN 930 AM and 107.7 FM and Star 102.5 FM will give a voice to the animals through a live broadcast from the SPCA’s headquarters in Tonawanda to raise funds for the SPCA Serving Erie County and its services. For more information about the SPCA, visit www.YourSPCA.org. To learn more about Dunkin’ Donuts, visit www.DunkinDonuts.com or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Cheektowaga erases 21-point deficit, scores five fourthquarter TDs in comeback win over Bennett for Class B title By Nick Sabato SPORTS REPORTER

Ralph Wilson Stadium was the site of the biggest comeback in NFL history. It’s fitting that it would be the site of one of an impressive comeback in high school football, too. Down 28-7 at the start of the fourth quarter, Cheektowaga scored five touchdowns in the final frame to defeat Bennett/ Olmstead, 40-34, to win the Section VI Class B title on Friday evening (Nov. 7). “Bennett is tough,” said Cheektowaga head coach Mike Fatta. “Every yard we got, we earned today. The kids believed and that’s the bottom line.” The Warriors came out out of the gates quick, going 60 yards on just four plays and capping off the drive with a 24-yard touchdown run by Marshawn Gibson to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead. That seemingly woke up Bennett as Alex Dildy took the ensuing kickoff 81 yards to put his team up 8-7. Just a few plays later, Marcelus Toliver intercepted Zak Ciezki and the Tigers marched 55 yards on 12 plays as Isaiah McDuffie plunged in to give Bennett a 14-7 lead. Andrew White would score two third-quarter touchdowns on runs of 49 and 3 yards and it seemed as if Bennett had the game in hand with a 28-7 lead, especially after Cheektowaga had failed to convert on two previous trips to the red zone. “We had the momentum and

JEFFREY T. BARNES

Zack Ciezki had a hand in all five of Cheektowaga’s fourth-quarter touchdowns and the Warriors rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat Bennett 40-34 in the Class B finals at Ralph Wilson Stadium. then they had the momentum and then it swung back and that’s what a championship game is about,” said Bennett/ Olmstead head coach Steve McDuffie. “They just played a great game and our defense didn’t do what we needed them to do. All I can say is that Cheektowaga was the better team today.”

The turning point in the game for Cheektowaga came on a second-and-21 from its own 38, as Ciezki hit Gibson on a screen pass and he darted 52 yards to Bennett’s 10-yard line on the last play of the third quarter. Two plays later, Ciezki called his own number on a 9-yard run to cut the lead to 14. After the Tigers went three-

and-out, Ciezki struck again, hitting Tyron Lawson in stride for a 65-yard score. It appeared that Bennett had regained the momentum after converting a fourth-and-short from its own 19, but moments later Justin Williams recovered a McDuffie fumble and all of a sudden the Warriors had the ball on the Tigers’ 6-yard line

down 28-21. Ciezki only needed two plays this time, running it in from five yards out to tie the game with 5:15 left. “Our mindset was ‘we’re not going to quit no matter what,’” said Ciezki. “I don’t care how many points we’re down, we look at the score as 0-0, we’re going to keep doing our jobs

and keep doing what coaches tell us to do.” Cheektowaga didn’t stop after the tie, forcing another punt that Davion Stallworth returned to Bennett’s 20, and four plays later Ciezki dove in to push the Warriors in front 34-28 lead with 1:16 left. It looked as if Bennett was doomed after a mishandled kick pinned them at the 10, but on the first play, Anthony Mendrysa found Bradon Brown for a 90-yard touchdown to tie the game up at 34 following a failed two-point conversion. “Getting the stop on that two-point conversion was big because it let us relax and play for overtime if we needed to,” said Fatta. “We didn’t need to score at the end of the game, we did, but getting the stop on the two-point conversion was big.” The Warriors got the ball at their own 39 and after three plays they found themselves at the Tigers’ 40 with 15 seconds left. Ciezki heaved a pass to Stephan Parker and the 6-foot-2 sophomore hauled it in while having the awareness to stretch the ball over the pylon before stepping out of bounds to give Cheektowaga the win and its first sectional title since 2009. “We knew we were going to go to Stephan,” said Ciezki. “He’s our tallest receiver. I knew if I threw it up to him there was a good chance that he would go up and get it.” Ciezki finished 9 for 23 for 224 yards and five total touchdowns (all in the fourth quarter). Gibson had 102 yards on 16 carries and two catches for 57 yards for Cheektowaga (8-2), which will advance to the Far West Regional (3 p.m. Saturday at All High Stadium against Batavia.

Central surprises in Class B2 in spite of youth By Mike Pidanick SPORTS REPORTER

After losing seven talented seniors from last season, you might have thought the Cheektowaga Central High School girls volleyball team was in for a down season. And if you did think that, you would have been off the mark. The Warriors had some growing pains throughout the regular season but came up big when it mattered most. Cheektowaga put together a strong postseason run and reached the Section VI Class B2 championship game. “No one expected them to get this far and they did,” coach Denee Hickson said. “So they should be proud.” Cheektowaga earned a

No. 4 seed for the Class B2 sectional playoffs and opened with a four-game win over fifth-seed Olean at home on Oct. 28. But it was two days later that Cheektowaga earned one of the most memorable wins in the history of the strong program. The Warriors beat rival Depew in five games, including a 27-25 victory in Game 5. “It was amazing,” Hickson said. “The way that we played, the electricity, the energy, it was definitely Cheektowaga volleyball.” The Warriors lost the championship game to Albion in three games but that didn’t take away from another strong season for the program. And the Cheektowaga success was led by a strong senior class, headlined by libero Alexis Macadlo and middle hitter Shawnn Foster. The rest of the senior class also delivered early and often and that group includes outside hitter Amanda

Kraus, setter and outside hitter Brittany Adamczyk, middle hitter Taraya Fisher, outside hitter Boston Kistka, outside hitter and defensive specialist Boston Kistka and outside/middle hitter Kaylee Martin. Those girls will be missed next season but Cheektowaga has no plans on a downswing. “We lost seven seniors last year and we lost eight this year but they’re fighters,” Hickson said. “They’re Warriors in and out.” And the Warriors are far from done. Current juniors Sarah Braciak, Summer Walters, Natalie Minotti, Jeanette Kassman, Kim Thompson and Lauren Onisk and sophomores Maria Verrastro and Maria Verrastro will be back next season and Cheektowaga will be looking to continue its run of success. “A lot of work in the offseason and we’ll be contenders next year too,” Hickson said.

After graduating seven seniors from last season’s team, the Cheektowaga Central Warriors made a run to the Class B2 finals against Albion.

NCAAA Crusaders complete undefeated season with win By Gary Steltermann CONTRIBUTOR

Nov. 2 was a day for the history books for the North Cheektowaga Amateur Athletic Association’s football teams. The Freshman Spartans, appearing in their second OATKA championship game in three years, fell short of their ultimate goal by losing to Gowanda, 9-0. The Varsity Crusaders, however, completed their undefeated season by winning

19-7 over the South Buffalo Shamrocks. The Spartans had strong games out of a plethora of players including defensive performances by Sean Hargrave, Matt “Honey Badger” Corchado, Keyshawn Mack, Monte Mason, Jeremy Thompson and Jemery Clark. Hard running was put in on the offensive side of the ball by Devan Dipasquale and Evan Kohr along with standout blocking up front by Justus Hill and Chris Hargrave. The game was a defensive battle for much of the day, as

the Spartans gave up a safety in the second quarter to the Panthers as they took just a 2-0 lead into halftime. The game wasn’t finally put away by the Panthers until late in the fourth quarter as the Panthers scored on a run to the outside to go up for good 9-0. The Spartans nearly put a score of their own in the end zone as Harper completed long passes to Kohr and Thompson until time ran out. Other strong performances in the game went to captain Billy Morris and James Reindfleisch, who stepped in at the center

position. The Spartan coaching staff would like to thank each of the families as well as wish good luck to all players moving up to the Titans next season. The last game of the evening saw the Varsity Crusaders cap off their dominant season with a win over rival South Buffalo. Kaiser Acosta started the scoring off with a fantastic 43-yard touchdown as he broke multiple tackles on his way into the end zone in the first quarter.Acosta also had an interception on the day for the Crusaders and even completed

a long 35-yard pass to Malik Early before the half expired. Javaughn Williams showed off his hard running style on a long 55-yard touchdown and quarterback Dylan Casey ran in the extra point attempt to put the Crusaders up 13-0 early in the second half. CJ Ozolins completed the running back trio scoring by punching in a 1-yard run to put the Crusaders in the lead 19-0. Strong defensive performances were seen by Caleb Graves, Nick Costanzo, and Jayden Krueger, who had a fumble recovery on the

19-yard line. Time-eating running by Anthony Daly saw the Crusaders finish off their undefeated season. The Football and Cheerleading end-of-year banquet will be held Nov. 21 at the Millennium Hotel to recap and celebrate this historic season. Keep up with North Cheektowaga as it heads into basketball season by reading the organization’s newsletter. The event will include a traditional Polish and American Christmas sing-along, with the St. John Kanty Choir under the direction of Larry Maguda. It will also feature the Response to Love Center Trio of Sister Johnice, Sister Catherine and Sister Rose. The New Direction Band will also be performing; with that line-up, there’s guaranteed to be no shortage of fun polkas and dance music throughout the entire event. A dance competition is planned as well, where couples will be invited to take center stage

and dance traditional dances like the waltz, the oberek and the polka. Admission is $20, and that includes the dinner – a Polish buffet. There will also be theme tray raffles and door prizes, and children are invited and welcomed. Koledy is an old Polish tradition that’s more than just traditional music and Christmas carols – many of the songs have been handed down throughout the generations, with some traced as far back as the 14th century. They’re also known for cap-

turing the true meaning and spirit of Christmas – there’s no Santa and presents here, but instead, the songs stay true to their origin and hymns that were sung during Mass. The tradition of Koledy has helped to ensure that the true meaning of Christmas isn’t lost among the commercialism of modern day holidays. The songs celebrate the original Christmas Story, the birth of Christ, and the true spirit of friends, family and gathering with loved ones. The Response to Love Center supports the community in countless ways, from the operation of their food bank to their dining rooms, which serves anywhere from 150 to 300 people each and every day. The center and its volunteers supply the community with much, much more than a warm meal and a comfortable place to eat. True to the spirit of their upcoming Koledy Party, the Sisters are making sure that anyone who reaches out will find a helping hand and the true meaning of Christmas – and have been since their inception in 1985. For more information on their programs and needs, visit responsetolovecenter. org. To reserve tickets to the event, call the center at 8947030.

By Lauren Kirchmyer Comedy fans can “expect the unexpected” as funny guy Marlon Wayans takes the stage at Helium Comedy Club next weekend to perform stand up. Though he has performed at colleges throughout the area many times in the past, he is excited to perform his first show for “the locals.” “I really enjoy Buffalo,” he said. “People there are listeners, and I love listeners more than anything. Listening will make you laugh.” Wayans grew up with a funny family in the projects of New York City. As he and his nine brothers and sisters grew up, their work and their names became well known in the entertainment industry. “We always give each other advice and inspire each other with what we’re doing,” he said. He gained popularity in the early ’90s when he appeared in the sketch comedy series “In Living Color,” created by his brothers Keenan and

sucked or not. What matters is that we worked together in harmony, had a good time and worked through those moments with smiles.” His latest projects include working with new comedians through WhatTheFunny.com and his latest TV series, “Funniest Wins.” While working with up-andcoming talent, Wayans often finds himself inspired by the hard work and dedication the newcomers have with advancing their careers. “Their hustle is something to look at and mimic. A great teacher learns from their students,” he said. Whether it’s working on

TV and film or spending time with his family, Wayans will always include comedy in his life as he loves the rush that fills his body after making someone laugh. “To resurrect something brand new in the moment, I’m blessed,” he said. “I treat every opportunity presented to me as if it’s my first and my last.” Wayans’ stand-up show begins at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, and 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 at Helium Comedy Club, 30 Mississippi St., Buffalo.
