At Compacon, we value comfortable and, most of all, safe working conditions. We work with many different stakeholders on a daily basis and we expect them to respect these values a well. This is why we ask factories and suppliers to sign our Code of Conduct before partnering up with them. It is just one of the actions we take to support the United Nations Global Compact SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) related to labor and human rights. Of course, these SDG’s also apply in our own offices. In this article, some of our colleagues tell you what it is like to work at one of the market leaders in the European promotional industry. Marcel Nowak has recently become an Account Manager for the DACH market. He is based in a little German town called Kempen, near the Dutch border. The variety in his work is something he values a lot. “I have contact with several different people and personalities on a daily bases. Of course, many of them are clients and colleagues, but also IT exports helping me with the implementation of a web shop. So there is no day the other!” Manager Marketing and Communications Elizabeth Dijkhuizen also mentions the variety in work as one of the main perks. “The promotional industry might seem ‘easy’, but the opposite is true. Think about Christmas, for example. It is one of the main events in which promotional items play a massive role. However, the way we celebrate Christmas in the Netherlands is different from the

way we celebrate in Germany. This makes it super interesting!” This also shows that the offices with local account managers and marketeers is so important to Compacon. Elizabeth agrees: “French clients looking for sustainable promotional items are often looking for locally produced product. However, in The Netherlands this plays a less significant role. It simply demonstrates that local experts are needed to service clients in the right way.” Besides the benefits of local offices, Compacon employees also value the fact that they’re part of a stronghold in the industry. “Compacon is part of a very strong team in de industry: Plato Group. Being able to make use of the whole supply chain within that group, makes a big difference.” Marcel explains. “We can take care of every solution regarding promotional items: from outsourcing the whole project to automatizing it.” Tobias Hart, Project Coordinator based in the Copenhagen office, explains that being part of a group doesn’t affect a great bond with your colleagues. “I simply love the colleagues! We have a great relationship together. I do like the international aspect, because it makes you feel that you’ re part of a bigger family.” Within an organization like Compacon, it is important to feel valued and respected. “Today, it is not a question of ‘if’,

but ‘how’ you can provide a safe and healthy working environment. This is a process that needs constant improvements, but I believe Plato and therefore Compacon are well underway.” Elizabeth states. Tobias agrees by mentioning he feels respected by the team from Denmark: “There is a healthy relationship between the fun side of things and the more serious topics. When you’re dealing with some personal stuff, it is always treated with deep respect.” Marcel is a bit more hesitant as he just recently joined the team, but feels the first signs are good. “Especially since we are collaborating across borders, some communication can be improved, but you do feel everyone has a passion for what they are doing. My experience so far tells me we’re on a good way!” In terms of health, Compacon tries to offer support in different ways.

So, would Compacon employees recommend working at one of the European offices? “Definitely!” Tobias says. ”I am not even the newest member of the team anymore, but I remember having a very welcoming introduction. ‘Welcoming’ is the perfect way to describe the company’s atmosphere.” Like Marcel mentioned, there are still some challenges that are part of a big, cross-border company, but this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. “I would recommend it, because there are such a lot of opportunities. There is so much development that makes it impossible to feel bored. It is exciting to work in such a fast-paced environment.”, he explains. Elizabeth concludes, “I agree! The fact that we see these chances for improvement makes it very exciting. Being part of a group that continues to grow with a passionate and respectful team, is a perfect combination!”

“Plato Group offers a ‘bicycle plan’ so the company financially supports a bike to come to work to. Every week fresh fruit is brought to the office that my colleagues and I can take.” Elizabeth explains. The flexibility in working from home, also helps with physical and mental health. “It really supports a healthy balance in your working- and private life.” Marcel confirms.
