About Tavin
“Tavin, a colorful gypsy caravan of a shop that opened in Echo Park in July, feels like it was plucked from an old cobblestone street on Paris’ Left Bank and transported to Los Angeles.” Says L.A Times writer Steffie Nelson. The Tavin boutique is a dreamy pocket of a shop, boasting a rich collection of vintage and redesigned vintage clothing, new avant-garde and ecofriendly designer pieces, lifestyle products, ephemera, unusual books, children’s clothing, gift items and object d’art. The boutique attracts a creative crowd of Hollywood fashionistas, A-list celebrities, models, stylists and designers (Karen Olson, Tara Subkoff and Chloe Sevigny are all regular shoppers). With monthly cultural happenings, holiday parties, weekly apéritifs, and personalized styling services, Tavin is LA’s new go-to style destination.
Meet Erin Tavin
The boutique is owned and operated by New York native Erin Julie Tavin who has 12+ years experience as a vintage and contemporary clothing buyer, stylist and costumer. From an early age Tavin established a connection and love for theatrical clothing. Later, she began to scout vintage and contemporary fashions and outfit actors, musicians, celebrities and locals, from Britney Spears and Michelle Trachtenberg to Gina Gershon. With a very strong eye, a real love of history and a modern sensibility, the Tavin Shop is an expression of her unique style, passion, humor, quirkiness and love of travel.
The Tavin Collections
The Collections
Tavin’s collection juxtaposes the ultra-modern with the nostalgic. Whimsical, flowing, bohemian pieces with a real sense of history found in markets the world over, hang alongside experimental wares of cutting-edge and earth-friendly designers like Wren, Susan Cianciolo and Rebellion Dogs. The collection appeals to woman of varied generations and genres, from 15 year-old trend-setters, to stylish Baby Boomers. At Tavin, 60% of the inventory sells for under $100. New vintage and designer pieces come in every day. A recent estate sale find has brought in dozens of never-before-worn 1930’s silk lingerie, 1900’s Victorian dresses and a chic selection off 70’s dresses. Always full of inspirational clothing that leave women feeling beautiful, not broke, Tavin transports women, even just for a moment into a different time and place. Erin Tavin’s redesigned vintage pieces that are available exclusively at Tavin, transform vintage pieces to make it fit the modern woman’s aesthetic --these pieces define the unique essence of the store. * A very special area for designers and stylists is also available. *Personal appointments also available with Erin Tavin for personal styling. About The Space
About The Space
Fall, Winter & Spring windows at Tavin
With a cool D.u.m.b.o meets 20th arrondissement feel and a striking urban-rustic interior, the boutique is not simply a shopping venue, but also a place for people to congregate, peruse design books, speak to friends, search for treasures, listen to music, shop and get inspired in a creative, stimulating environment not often found in Los Angeles. The boutique feels rustic and lived in, giving anyone who enters the feeling that the shop has been there for years. The space was designed and constructed by Erin and team of local designer friends including designer Ovid Pope and her husband, Nathan Stein, using mostly reclaimed materials, utilizing discarded windows, ballet bars and doors to create the old-time meets modern feel. The shop was devised to compliment the natural beauty of the space, uncovering hidden brick and enhancing the natural light, while still treading lightly on the environment.
