Decorating your house to give it that “home” feel can be an exhausting and daunting proposition, especially when it comes to the living room area. But finding the right furniture for your home is getting a little easier these days. There is plenty of modern and traditional living room furniture on the market right now that can help alleviate the arduous task of finding just the right one. Whether you’re looking for furniture or any home décor for that matter, finding the right piece of furniture can be as easy as searching online. Before the days of the internet, we sifted through newspaper ads to find decent furniture. However, in age of instant information in the palm of our hands, and especially with the growing list of brand name products, the task of searching for furniture is no longer as much of a problem as it is deciding which one to buy. The conventional and often formulaic purpose of the living room area of a home serves as the one significant area for the comfort of family, friends, and guests. However, as ideals change and shaped by time, conformity can become less rigid and more defined when the conventional clashes with the modern to forge a new kind of perception on the old. And furniture is no exception to the changes in design and functionality when decorating the living room. What to consider about the variations of furniture for the living room area is a balancing act between economy and personal taste. Knowing the surrounding area where your living room furniture will be placed is an essential first step to consider. Before deciding anything else, knowing the exact dimensions of the area your living room furniture will occupy. Figure out how much space you want left around your living room area for accessibility and comfort and to get an idea of the size and shape of the furniture required. The size and shape of the room itself should also affect your choice of console or coffee tables whether you feel a rectangular or circular table would be more fitting. Attributed to the issue of space-efficiency around the living room furniture (and depending on the room size as well) is the number of people in the household and the prospect of entertaining guests to keep in mind if you require extensions for the living room. While the decor of the room would be up to you, knowledge of how much space you need surrounding the furniture ought to be the first priority.
home decor. Whether it’s a sleek and modern platform bed in your bedroom or the supplementary glass top coffee table, make sure you match accordingly. Choosing the right furniture style is like giving your home an identity that reflects your own. Furniture, like many goods of the long term variety, is something people do not hastily decide to purchase on a whim. It takes delicate time and commitment to find furnishing that adorns your home for the foreseeable future. You will want your furniture of choice to last you a long while. As you about your house and use your furniture every day, home furnishings are constant reminders of your own personal style and aesthetics.

The new rage in the design world certainly encompasses a new way of thinking – and one that certainly has most of us thinking beyond “today”. So what is sustainable design? It is designing responsibly to resolve complex problems in order to protect, nurture and improve our environment. It involves new land development and construction, redevelopment, renovation and restoration. Sustainability arises with high demand, along with manufacturing methods, resulting from overpopulation. Polluted air, water and loss of forested land are strong indicators towards promoting new, environmentally safe methods. Sustainability encompasses everything we construct from buildings to cars, from communities to economics of a region, from land use, redevelopment and restoration to city infrastructures. Key issues include energy efficiency, renewable energy, environmentally sustainable building materials and techniques, healthy building design, life cycle and maintenance costs, economic factors and incentives to promote “green” building products and services. During the 21st century sustainable design will evolve into a standard of integrating, seamlessly and unobtrusively, “green” building systems into the building and manufacturing process.
• Recycling bins and collection systems • Energy management systems Coupled with the idea of sustainability there is growing research evidence that the human brain and behavior are linked. Research is being conducted dealing with office-worker productivity, daycare facilities, and elderly housing projects. It is being recognized that natural landscapes reduce stress, aid in recovery, and facilitate physiological well being. Certainly more connections between our environment, our mind and our body will be discovered as further research is completed. By supporting companies offering “green” manufacturing processes and considering smart growth alternatives, we can contribute in this global effort to protect and save our environment. Many approaches are necessary to address the needs of future. Individually and

it is possible to create environmentally sensitive projects, while conserving resources and improving the quality of our lives, if we put forth the effort. It won’t necessarily be easy, but by discovering new methods and working to implement more thoughtful systems, it is possible we can leave the environment we began with in a better position to sustain life for another millennium.

If your current flooring is getting a bit drab, all you have to do is add one of these and your style points will go through the roof. This is a great thing to consider, and something that you will want to keep in mind anytime that you are decorating your home. 2. Area rugs come in many different shapes, styles, and colors. home decorating- it’s all
You’ve seen the photos of designer rooms decorated simply in black and white. Could you? Would you? Why Not? There’s an ease in simplicity. Limited choices are easier to select. It’s either black or white. The starkness of this designer look may cause you to shy away. But think about the ultimate utility of the little black dress or crisp white shorts in your wardrobe. They are so indispensible because of all the choices you have to put with these basic colors. Your room of basics can be thought of the same way. Begin your designer look room with a white shell. Walls, flooring, door and window trim all in white. Introduce the companion color black as an area rug. Or reverse the strategy with a black or checkerboard design in the floor accented with a fluffy, white flokati area rug. Furniture pieces of black leather are classic, while white leather is an unexpected yet appropriate choice. Select other fabrics in black and white patterns for furniture or draperies. With just two colors in the mix, you may add a variety of different patterns without being overwhelmed. Be sure to include different textures of fabric for interest. Black and white photographs in simple black frames create an interesting and timeless wall display. Add few black and white accessories and your basic wardrobe of a room is complete. Now the fun begins. If you’re eyes are longing for color, go all out, with one other color. To preserve the simplicity of the minimalist color palette, add only one other color as an accent and watch what happens. How about red? This warm color will melt the coolness of the neutral combination, yet bring out the intensity of the contrasting colors. Add red in the wall art, pillows, vases, and glassware. Introduce an area rug combining red and black or red and white. Just as with your wardrobe basics, any other color works well combined with black and white. Blue, green, yellow, and purple. All the more reason collect a variety of
Page 10
single color accents so you’re ready to change the color environment of the room whenever you choose. This color strategy works well for any room in your home. A kitchen with white cabinets, flooring and countertop is fertile ground for utilizing color basics. Small appliances and cookware are commonly in black. Add a black window blind, cabinet handles and area rug to establish the neutral basics. Then add your chosen accent color in easily changed items, such as potholders, kitchen towels, a tea kettle, canisters or cookie jar. Now you have a color basic, designer kitchen with pizzazz. Bathrooms with white fixtures are common. Make the bath space uncommon with a black tile on the floor or walls. A small scale black and white print on the window curtain, a white area rug and black towel bars create your basic background. Simply add your choice of towel color, some decorative soaps or decanters, and another room is done. This basic color scheme, though often seen with contemporary interiors, works equally as well with a traditional décor. Wood furniture and elaborate trim can be painted white or stained a deep ebony color. Traditional fabric prints, such as toile scenes, checks and plaids are always available in the black and white combination. Be on the lookout for interesting black or white furniture and accessories to add sophistication to your basic rooms. Undistracted by color, the form of the piece takes on an importance and gives a timeless quality to any item that is black or white. Your basic color rooms will look as new in years to come as they do today. About the Author: Written by Sarah Crosset Article source: http://www.isnare.co m/?aid=336013&ca=Home+Manag ement

Are you tired of the look of your old couch? Or is the color scheme of your room outdated? You could spend thousands purchasing a new couch, or remodeling a room, but before you do so you should consider redecorating by adding toss pillows. Toss pillows can dramatically change the look and feel of your room without breaking your budget. If you’re looking to add a splash of color, or creative motif to your room there are endless options to combine design, texture, color to achieve your style goal. You can turn an old shabby chic room into a modern contemporary room easily by changing just the pillows. Or, if you have classic, neutral color schemes it’s easy to give your couch a modern look by adding a pillow cover with bright, vibrant designer colors. Also, pillows allow you to easily change the style of your room as the seasons change that will keep giving your room a fresh new look. There are a large variety of styles of toss pillows designs which include modern, floral, Asian, black and white, dots and stripes, and solid colors. Mixing styles is another alternative. By mixing pillow styles can provide a unique look without defining your room with only a single style. This will bring more depth and style to your room and not lock you into a single style allowing you to complement other pieces in your room to tie the whole look together.
options for pillow inserts which include feather, down, or polyfil. It’s really a personal preference which insert you prefer but feather and down will be more expensive than polyfil; however, many prefer polyfil since its machine washable. If you have an existing pillow insert that you prefer it may be more cost-effective to purchase just the pillow cover. This will save you expense of purchasing an entire pillow and you can keep that ultra comfortable pillow. If you will be changing styles often you should consider purchasing pillow covers with either an envelope or invisible zipper closure. These closures allow you to easily remove the pillow insert and add a new pillow cover. It also allows you to wash your pillow covers without damaging your pillow insert. In addition, when not using your pillow covers they are easily folded and stored for future use. There are many options where to purchase new pillows. You can purchase pillows at department stores or from an online retailer. Online retailers provide an easy and convenient way to see multiple pillow designs without the hassle of leaving your home, or dealing with a pushy salesman who wants you to purchase an entire living room set. If you can’t remember, then perhaps it’s time to enjoy fondue at home. You can have it as an appetizer, main meal or dessert. Simply pick from one of the following types of fondue. FONDUE FOR ALL TASTES While “fondue” refers to a warm liquid in which you dip tasty treats, there is more than one variety of fondue for you to choose from. The most common fondues are as follows: • Cheese Fondue. This type of fondue can contain wine, beer, Kirsch, milk or cream and lots of cheese. Obviously, spices are also added to make the whole thing even more delicious. There are even Italian, Mexican, pizza or reuben versions of this delicious dish. The most common dippers are pieces of bread, but cooked vegetables, cooked meat and apples also taste great. • Chocolate Fondue. Chocolate fondue is a wonderful treat at the end of a day. You can try different variety of chocolates, such as milk, dark or white and even mix a few types. Once again, milk, cream or liqueurs are often added to improve the texture and flavor. Common dippers for chocolate fondue are: fruit, cookies, wafers, waffles, cake, donuts, nuts, macaroons, pretzels, popcorn and whatever else would taste great covered in chocolate! • Caramel Fondue. This type of fondue is similar to chocolate fondue other than the obvious use of caramel instead of chocolate. Common dippers for caramel fondue are: pecans, fruit, cookies, wafers, donuts, nuts, pretzels, popcorn and almonds. • Broth-Based Fondue. This type of fondue is equivalent to a main meal. It’s similar to soup shared in a communal pot. You can use different broth recipes to match your dippers. You can dip thinly slices of beef, chicken, pork or lamb and wait a minute or so until your meat is cooked. Shrimp, fish and seafood also make great dippers. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, you can also dip vegetables such as mushrooms, cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes and potatoes. Once your dippers are cooked, you dip them into assorted sauces
Issue #33- August 20/09
to add to the fondue experience. •Hot-Oil Fondue. This type of fondue was really popular in the 1970s. As the name indicates, hot oil is placed in a communal pot in the center of the table and guests dip small cubes of meat into it until cooked. They then let the dippers cool before dipping them into one of the various dipping sauces that accompany the meal. Vegetables can also be deep-fried in the hot oil but they should be free of water to avoid splashing. These five types of fondue are not your only options but they are a good way to introduce your friends and family to a fun and interesting way to share good times and good conversation over great tasting food. And I also decided to go the martini route. It seems like martinis are made from just about anything now a days. So why not try a Mojito Martini? Mix the following in a half filled shaker of crushed ice: 1.5 measures Bacardi Limon 0.5 measure Absolute Citron 1/2 of a Lime, sliced 8 Mint Leaves Shake well and pour into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with some fresh mint leaves. And don’t fish the used mint leaves out of the cocktail shaker for the garnish. The mojito is so versatile that even the Mojito Martini has a few variations as well. A great way to add a touch of class is to add a splash of Grand Mariner. This is a called a Grand Mojito Martini and it truly does taste grand.
This summer, the mojito seemed to be the most talked about cocktail making it’s rounds on the home cocktail party circuit. I recently tried a mojito for the first time and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I would have thought that all that mint would make the drink taste like toothpaste but it’s actually quite refreshing. Putting mint leaves in a glass and crushing them sounds more like something that a gardener would do to kill weeds. But after you mix those crushed mint leaves with sugar, lime juice and rum you can tell the gardener to take a hike. This way there will be more mojito for you. I enjoyed my first mojito so much that I decided to experiment with some of the variations too. It seems like the easiest way to add different flavors to a mojito is to use flavored rums. The rum industry has taken its cue from the vodka makers of the world and now offers all types of new and interesting flavors. Take Bacardi Rums for example. If you limited yourself to use only Bacardi (not a bad limit), you’d still have lots of varieties to choose from. There’s Limon, Razz, Bacardi O, Bacardi 8, Grand Melon, Big Apple and I’m sure they’re doing market research on a bunch of new flavors as you sit here and read this.
The mojito is a great summertime drink that can add a little international zest to any of your cocktail parties. If you’re the type of host that goes that extra mile for his or her guests, then why not plant some mint in your herb garden in the spring. It’s an easy plant to grow and it’ll help you serve the freshest Mojitos, Mojito Martinis and Grand Mojitos Martinis and your guests will truly appreciate it. About the Author: Written by Anthony Tripp Anthony Tripp is always trying new and exciting cocktails, including various Mojito Recipes, in the comforts of his own home. To learn more about Home Mixology, and how to make more great cocktail recipes, check out his blog, http://homemixology.blogspot.com Article source: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=298909&ca=Food+and+D rinks
When you go out to a bar, they’re usually stocked with all these latest and greatest flavors but it might be impractical for a home mixologist to buy more than a few varieties. I’m sure using any of those would taste great but who wants to spend all that money on a home bar. If you’re having a big party, then sure that makes sense. But for regular home consumption it’s probably best to try just one at a time and make sure you like them. I chose Bacardi Limon. Everyone likes lemony flavored alcohol so it made sense.

There are many different types of trellises on the market today--wood, metal, plastic, fan shaped, obelisk shaped, etc. A trip to any garden supply store will verify this. In fact, there are so many choices available that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. So what are the differences and what’s the best type of trellis to buy? Ultimately, that decision depends on your climate and the trellises intended use; however, the following information will serve as a guide to help you as you shop for the perfect trellis. Generally, wood trellises are the most affordable option. Wood trellises purchased from gardening supply stores can vary in quality. Most inexpensive wood trellises will not hold up for long-term use. Keep in mind that some types of wood will rot, and weather and outdoor elements will speed the decaying process. Furthermore, many commercially available wood trellises are held together with tiny tacks or staples that loosen easily, which could lead to a trellis that’s falling apart even before the wood begins to rot. If you like the look of wood, but want something sturdier than a commercially available wood trellis, you might want to consider building your own. When constructing your own wood trellis, be sure to consult with the experts at your local garden center before choosing the type of wood you’ll use. Some treated woods may contain harmful chemicals that can kill your climbing plants. Plastic trellises are also widely available and come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. A plastic trellis will probably cost you more than a wood trellis; however, a plastic trellis will probably hold up a lot longer. When looking for a plastic trellis, be sure to find out if the plastic is UV stable. That is, you want to be sure that the color won’t fade or yellow over time as it is exposed to the sun’s powerful UV rays. Plastic trellises constructed of PVC vinyl are usually a good bet. PVC vinyl is a sturdy material that will hold up against the elements. Metal trellises are another good option. Metal trellises were once shunned within the gardening community
Issue #33- August 20/09
because of a myth that the metal can become too hot and “burn” your plants; however, many gardeners have realized this is not entirely true. When shopping for a metal trellis, consider the color. A lighter color will not absorb as much heat, and thus won’t get as warm. In particular, white can be very reflective of the sunlight. A metal trellis that is painted white will not harm your plants. When looking for a metal trellis, aluminum is probably the best material choice. Aluminum is a lightweight, yet incredibly durable material. When painted, aluminum will not rust like steel or copper. Furthermore, many metal trellises are hinged in such a way that they fold down compactly for storage, a benefit you won’t easily find with a wood or plastic trellis. Finally, be sure to consider the type of climbing vine you intend to plant, as this will have a bearing on the type of trellis you purchase. If you’re planting an extremely heavy climbing vine, be sure you purchase a trellis that is large enough and strong enough to stand up to the weight.

the Best Hanging Hammock For Your Backyard With life as hectic as it is today, backyards, decks and poolside areas all over the world are being transformed into comfortable and peaceful retreats. When making your own personal refuge, consider adding a hanging hammock to complete your space the best possible way. Nothing says comfort quite like a hanging hammock swinging in the breeze. Potential hammock buyers may be surprised to know that there is a huge and varied selection of hammocks on the market – each hammock has different style and is made of different material. So it is pretty hard to choose from so many beautiful and comfortable styles and materials if you do not know anything about hammocks in advance. Here are some things you should consider when thinking about which hanging hammock will work best for you and will suit best your personal needs. To make this decision, consider the fabric you would like your hammock to be made from – you can choose from rope, cloth or canvas fabrics. Traditionally, most hanging hammocks have been made of rope. However, when it comes to rope hammocks, there are many variations to consider. The material of the rope and the way it is woven will greatly affect the way the hammock feels, hangs and looks. Most commonly, the rope is made of polyester or cotton and both are very durable fabrics. Polyester will be a bit more weather resistant and will discourage the growth of mold to a greater degree, but cotton is known for being more flexible and therefore it is often considered more comfortable than polyester. It is important to note, however, that both will withstand time very well and either one will provide a comfortable and peaceful retreat at your deck, in your backyard or by the pool. Of all famous rope hammocks styles, of particular note is the Mayan hammock. Historically, these hammocks are called gifts from the gods. These hanging hammocks
Page 26
are ideal for traveling as they are lightweight and very easy to set up. Also, if your idea of a hammock is about swinging in the breeze, the Mayan hanging hammock may be the perfect choice for you as it is known for its high swing factor. While most people envision rope hammocks when thinking about hammocks, there is also a wide range of cloth and canvas hanging hammocks to choose from. These hammocks may not be quite as traditional as a rope hammock, but both cloth and canvas are comfortable choices. The real benefit of choosing a hammock of the cloth or canvas variety is a greater flexibility in style. One well known type of cloth hammock is the Brazilian hammock, which is also known as the banana hammock. This hammock is heralded for the way it conforms to the body, providing one of the most relaxing experiences you can enjoy. With so many high quality hammocks to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect hanging hammock to complete your and your family outdoor retreat comfortably and peacefully. Reena Nerbas
Dear Reena, Have you found a way to remove orange pop stains on carpet? Whenever people visit they ask me where the orange stain came from, it is very visible and I would like to get rid of it. I have had no success with commercial carpet cleaners as of yet. Any ideas will be very much appreciated. George Dear George, What you will need to do is make a recipe that requires products from around the home. Into a 2-cup measure drop 1 teaspoon Dawn dish soap and 2 cups of water. Stir. Next pour the solution onto the stain. Lay a white cloth onto the area and press with an iron on medium setting. Make sure that you do not scorch the carpet by leaving the iron in one place for too long. Replace the white cloth with a new white cloth and press. Repeat until the stain is gone. Dear Reena, I love your books and would like to order them for Christmas but first, I have a question. On Canada AM you gave a solution for burnt pot bottoms. Can you repeat the process? Sandy Hi Sandy, Sprinkle the bottom of the burnt pot with a layer of powdered dishwasher detergent. Fill the pot one-quarter full with water. Boil for 5 minutes and remove from the element. Leave for an hour and scrub as normal. Dear Reena, Is there any way to remove a ring made by a hot cup on a stained and lacquered oak desk top? Jackie

household ammonia, and one quarter teaspoon dish soap. Mop the floor to dampen (no need to rinse). Option three: Purchase Hardwood Floor cleaner by Bona. Clean with a good quality micro fiber mop (test all applications on a small inconspicuous area first). Dear Reena, Here is a challenge that the carpet cleaners couldn’t help me with, my 75 pound dog stepped on a glue trap (for mice). In an attempt to get the trap off, he stomped it into my off white acrylic Berber carpet. The trap pulled away but not without leaving some residue behind. The hot steam has left the surface loops stiff and discoloured. Any ideas before I have it cut out? Diane Hi Diane, Before you run for the scissors try the following solution. If I were you, I would pour boiling water onto the area and blot, blot and blot until every tiny little bit of glue is gone. Worst case scenario: Spray the area with WD-40, leave for 10 mins. and blot with dish soap and water. Dear Reena, I need a solution for removing mold on painted surfaces. I’ve used bleach on a spot in my bedroom lower corner and the mold keeps reappearing so I’m most interested in what you have to suggest. Thank you so much and hope you keep the information coming. Carol Dear Carol, The problem sounds more like a structural problem which you may want to look into so that the problem will be permanently rectified. In terms of cleaning the area; why not try something less toxic than bleach? Instead switch to 2 cups of wonderful white vinegar and add 10 drops of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is an antifungal and will tackle the mould problem. Add to that vinegar and you’ve got a powerful combination!
FABULOUS TIPS OF THE WEEK: To get something out of a heat register or from under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
Dear Jackie, I always thought that watermarks on furniture were tricky to remove. Now I realize that they can be zapped by applying a combination of mayonnaise and some ashes from a wood stove or fireplace. Leave for about 10 minutes and wipe. Non-gel, non-bleach toothpaste also works well. If neither solution does the trick this means that the finish of the wood has been stripped and your best option is to refinish the area.
Peel a banana from the bottom and you won’t have to pick the little ‘stringy things’ off. Glenda
Dear Reena, I like to use vinegar, dish soap and water to wash my hardwood floors. However, I am noticing that although it cleans the floors I am seeing marks on the floors. Every time I walk on them with bare feet - I can see footprints (also most slippers leave an imprint) drives me crazy! Is there a solution? Much appreciated. Donna

Dear Donna, With such a wide variety of hardwoods available what works for one floor will not necessarily work for another. Here are a few effective options to try: Into a bucket combine 1-gallon warm water and two tea bags. Wipe the floor, the tannins in the tea will leave the floor looking clean. Option two: Into 2-gallons warm water drop 3 tbsp.

To give your microwave a great cleaning combine: 4 tablespoons of lemon juice with one cup of water in a microwave-safe, 4-cup bowl. Boil for 5 minutes in the microwave, allowing the steam to condense on the inside walls of the oven. Wipe clean. Lawrence

Chrome rims and other chrome parts are often used to improve the appearance of vehicles. The bright decorative finish of chrome plating is very familiar and enhances the appearance as no other method of customising your ride can. Chrome plating is used on exhausts, handles, mirrors and trims as well as on the very popular chrome rims. Chrome plating is not just used for decoration however. The protective coating of the chrome makes the technique of chrome plating useful for other applications. Chrome plating can be used to protect pistons and other engine parts. Chrome plating consists of applying a thin layer of chromium on to an iron, copper or other base metal to give a protective and decorative finish. Chromium itself is a reactive metal that reacts readily with the oxygen in the air. Unlike iron which forms a very unstable oxide that flakes and falls apart chromium oxide is hard and stable and forms a protective layer which prevents the underlying metal from corroding. Different electroplating techniques are used to produce different effects. The shiny highly decorative finish that we are all familiar with on chrome rims and other auto parts is known as bright chrome. Other variations are black chrome and hard chrome. Bright chrome is used when a decorative finish is required, on car rims for instance, and is applied fairly thinly. Decorative chrome is applied after a nickel coating is plated to a base of steel, copper alloys, steel and aluminum alloys and plastic. The nickel provides the luster and the chrome provides the hardness and protection. This kind of process is used for auto parts, jewelry, hardware, hand tools and appliances.
coating for pistons, hydraulic rods, cylinders and other engine parts. The chrome is plated more thickly than for the decorative finishes to make a strong protective layer. THE ELECTROPLATING PROCEDURE Before the object can be plated it must be cleaned thoroughly by degreasing the cleaning manually to remove any debris and impurities. Sulphuric acid or other strong acids are also used. Other pretreatments may also be used. Once cleaned the object is suspended in the plating solution. For bright chrome a solution of sulphuric acid and chromic acid is used and for black chrome, chromic acid with acetic acid and barium acetate. The temperature of the bath must be kept within 45C to 50C for bright chrome and 32C to 46C for black chrome. The thickness of the plating is controlled by the current used.
BLACK CHROME For black chrome an underlying base of metal is plated with bright or mate nickel then the chromium plating applied over this. Black chrome is not as hard as bright chrome and not so long lasting. It is often oiled or waxed to improve the appearance. Black chrome is used in some auto parts, solar panels and some gun sights and other optical components. HARD CHROME Unlike the other types hard chrome is not used to give a decorative finish but to give a very long lasting protective

Will Smith in the recently released Hancock notwithstanding (the superhero flies in this one, so no super car here), generally, you can always associate superheroes with the super cars they flaunt – be it Batman’s Batmobile or the X-jet Blackbird or even, the Harley from Ghost Rider. The innovative minds fashioning these mean machines leave no stone unturned, and these super cars’ accessories and design would probably match up to your wildest car-fantasies. Let us take an in-depth look at some of the most popular super cars but please bear in mind that all the details we are going to discuss are fictitious and are the figment of the creator’s imagination!
a heavily customized hard tail chopper, which transforms into the “Hell Cycle” – spewing fire and with a blazing skull at the front. The Ghost Rider’s skull flames were meant to display any emotion other than rage, and hence designed to become smaller and blue. Another superhero vehicle which catches your eye is the Swat Kats’ jet – the Turbokat. Razor and T-bone love taking it out for a spin while fighting crime at the same time. The aspects of the jet include the latest weapon system plus the Vertical Take-off and Landing feature – it’s a two-seater though. Also, the Turbokat holds a couple of small motorcycles within, which are used by the Swat Kats when needed. A special mention here of Robin’s motorcycle - conferred with the title of ‘Robin-mobile’ is a disgrace to the batmobile and a hot contender for the worst superhero vehicle ever. However that notorious title is conferred on Spiderman’s All Terrain Vehicle, christened Spidermobile – how could the writers even imagine a situation where Spiderman drives an ATV? Well, that was a round-up of all the different superheroes’ rides – my vote goes to the Batmobile, not just for its versatility but for the aesthetically-pleasing design, which puts it miles ahead of the competition. About the Author; Written by Brenda Williams Article source: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=298304&ca=Automotive
First up, the Batmobile – the trusty steed of the Dark Knight needs no introduction. With an armour plated chassis and rocket boost-enabled high performance engine complemented by special devices and mounted weapons, the Batmobile is a powerhouse with good space to manoeuvre and resistant to enemy attacks and obstacles. To add to these features, there are also those additional little nuggets like a forensic kit, tiny helicopter, a remote and computer linkage to the Batcave. The Batmobile is also frequently referred to as being powered by a nuclear generation of electricity. Next, we come to the X-men. Armed with all the latest technology, courtesy Dr. Xavier, the X-men use the fictitious aircraft, Blackbird (later renamed as the X-jet). It was quite obviously modelled on the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, a long-range, strategic reconnaissance aircraft. The original aircraft line was in service for over three decades – from 1964 to 1998, wherein 32 models of the aircraft were created. The X-men version of the blackbird was different on a couple of major aspects – the X-jet could seat multiple passengers and it was modified for ‘Vertical Take-off and Landing.’ After that we come to the newest super ‘vehicle’ – not quite a car, but more than worth a mention on our list. Although the movie Ghost Rider didn’t make such a lasting impression, his ride definitely did. In the movie, Nicolas Cage aka Johnny Blaze rides a ‘Buell’ motorcycle to double up as a stunt cycle, and Grace’,

Somehow even the best of car owners can neglect the interior of their car. Most of usually take a little time to wash the outside or at least go through the car wash. For some reason the interior gets put off until eventually you are wondering what happened to your car’s interior. However, you should know that your car’s appearance on the outside is just as important as your car’s appearance on the inside. So, if somehow you have the let your car’s interior slip away, here are some ways to get it looking good again.
becoming dull. You can have this repair done by a professional at an auto reconditioning shop. It usually doesn’t cost too much and not a lot of time either.
First of all start by cleaning out all the trash and stuff that doesn’t belong in your car. You know, those shoes, maybe a beach towel, or papers for work, take all that stuff out and put it where it belongs. Get all the bottles, napkins and left over fast food to the trash can as soon as possible.
If your seats or any other fabric in your car’s interior has rips or cigarette burns in it you should get that repaired as well. You should also consult a professional at an auto body shop to repair that for you. If you are thinking seat covers, I am thinking short term solution that doesn’t look as good. Also, if your headliner is starting to sag or is already sagging quite a bit you should consider that interior repair as well. It is also not that expensive and takes little time. Keep in mind that any idea you may have for repairing it yourself will most likely not last long, and it will only waste your time and money. Then you can vacuum your car’s interior to get rid of all the crumbs, dirt and little pieces of trash. You will be amazed at how much of this collects under and in between your seats. Make sure you vacuum the carpet, your mats, your seats, and even your truck. If there are any soiled spots from food, soda, pets, or anything else you should spot clean those areas with a car interior cleaner. Be sure to do a small test spot first. You should also clean your windows and wipe all areas of your car’s interior that is not cloth. Then you should armor-all those areas to protect them from the sun and keep them shiny.
These are a few tips to getting your vehicles interior looking like new. Whether you want the car to look good for you or for a sale these few repairs and TLC will get your vehicle looking great. Anyone will be proud to own or ride in your car after you get your interior looking great! Nobody really knows the origins of billiards. The common belief is that the game originated as a game that was played outdoors which was a bit different from croquet that was played early in the 14th century in France. Its said it became quite popular and when the cold weather did not allow the game to be enjoyed outside, it moved indoors and was played on a table that was covered with green felt. Do you know that when Mary, Queen of Scots, died, she was wrapped in a billiard cloth? Did you also know that pool was the first sport to have a world championship game in 1873? Interesting huh

There are well know historical figures that loved the billiard game. These include King Louise X1V and wife Marie Antoinette, Mozart, Abe Lincoln, Napoleon and George Washington among others. Back then, billiard balls were made from ivory and were usually carved out from the center of an elephant’s tusk. The elephant tusks could only give you three to 4 billiard balls. The pool game is said to have the highest average age among its players at about 35 yrs and also said to be one of the safest game in the world “Billiard” was coined from the French word “billart” that means mace. The mace was a stick with a handle that started to be used with the game called croquet. It was illegal In its earliest history, the pool game was outlawed in certain. Its funny that the church in France considered pool as immoral. In the nineteenth century in America, the word “pool” room was used to mean a parlor room for horse race betting and was banned in a number of states in America. Its said that Thomas Jefferson had a pool table that he hid in his home in Virginia. Nowadays, the terms pool room and billiard room mean the same thing. An American Tradition Dodge was founded in 1914 and is based out of Auburn Hills, Michigan. Dodge manufactures trucks, commercial vehicles, passenger vehicles, muscle cars, SUVs, pick up trucks and sports cars. Dodge is manufactured in over 60 countries worldwide. The company was originally founded in 1900 by the Dodge brothers as the Dodge Brothers Company to supply parts to the growing automotive industry in Michigan. Dodge did not begin manufacturing their own vehicles until 1914. Dodge became a part of the Chrysler Corporation in 1928, was part of the DaimlerChrysler merger from 1998-2007 and is now part of the new Chrysler LLC. Horace and John Dodge were the brothers responsible for the founding of the Dodge Company in 1900. Their business produced chassis and engines for the growing automotive market in the Michigan area before they released their first vehicle in 1914. Their first model was the Dodge Model 30, somewhat of a takeoff from the Ford Model T. Dodge, like many other vehicle manufacturers within the country, produced models for military use. The first time that Dodge’s vehicles were used by the United States military was when the United States sent troops into Mexico on the Mexican Expedition which was in search of Pancho Villa.
Dodge, prior to the war years in the United States, produced many luxury liner models such as the D11 4-door sedan. In the 1950s and 1960s Dodge began producing more and more coupes and sedans. A couple of their models were the Dodge Coronet 440 sedan of 1966 and the 1977 Dodge Diplomat sedan. Once Dodge became part of the DaimlerChrysler merger in 1998, their design and success took off at an even higher level. Once the merger took place the company began reworking the designs of many of its successful models to make them more attractive to the customer. Those models that Dodge redesigned were the Intrepid, the Stratus and the Neon. Aside from their passenger vehicles, Dodge has become widely popular with their pick up trucks, SUVs, commercial vehicles and vans. Their pick up trucks have become the backbone of the company and are most known
Page 54
for their durable pick ups. Dodge’s first civilian pick up truck was the Power Wagon, which was released shortly after the conclusion of World War II. The Dodge Dakota and the Dodge Ram are two of their most popular pick up trucks on the market today. Throughout their history, Dodge has gone through a handful of name changes, which means they have also gone through a handful of logo
changes. Their first logo was a circular emblem with the letters D and B intertwined for Dodge Brothers. The logo Dodge used until the mid 1990s was the pent-a-star, which is a pentagon with its five points and a star in the middle. Their current logo is the Dodge Ram head. It appears on all of their models except for the Dodge Viper. The ram head is also part of the company’s slogan which is, “Grab life by the horns.” About the Author; Written by Brenda Williams Article source: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=302615&ca=Automotive

The Simple Technology of Sleeping Bags
Camping is a recreational outdoor activity undertaken by millions in the world. Camping may be done together with other outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, fishing, rafting, backpacking, or mountain climbing. People usually go camping to find solace in the peace, quiet, beauty, and wonder of nature and get away from busy, noisy, chaotic, urban life. Typically, campers spend a night or two at a campsite. Recreational campers set campsites in national parks, publicly owned natural places, and privately owned campgrounds. More adventurous campers camp in wild, uncharted regions that are almost inaccessible—and sometimes restricted—to the public. Since campers may spend several nights outdoors, they need to use something that can keep them warm when they sleep. They need something between the ground and themselves when they turn in. Since it is generally impractical to bring a bed, most campers bring a sleeping bag with them. Sleeping bags are thick, protective “bags” for people to sleep in. In essence, sleeping bags are thick, closeable blankets. Sleeping bags provide warmth and insulation. Sleeping bags can also shield campers from wind, precipitation, ground temperature, and exposure from unwanted view. A sleeping bag is simple in design. Typically, it is a square blanket that is fitted with a zipper, a set of buttons, or similar closing materials on one or both sides. This allows the sleeping bag to be folded in half and secure in this position. A person can then crawl inside the cavity. A normal sleeping bag is suitable for most camping needs; however,
for more demanding requirements such as winter camping, thicker, and bigger bags, called mummy bags, are needed. Placed between the fabrics that make up the outer shell of sleeping bags is insulation. That is what makes sleeping bags thick and warm. There are different insulating materials that are used for sleeping bags. Most outdoorsmen prefer a synthetic kind of insulation such as PrimaLoft. Synthetic insulation does not easily absorb water, dries quickly, and still provides warmth even if the bag is soaked and damp. Another quality of synthetic insulation is that it is firm and resilient. That means the sleeping bag still insulates a person quite well even if it is underneath a person’s weight. The disadvantage of synthetic-insulated sleeping bags is that they cannot be compressed easily. That means they are much harder to roll up for stowage and takes up more space in a campers pack when it is not being used. Commonly paired with sleeping bags are bivouac sacks. These are waterproof covers for sleeping bags. The tandem can be used in place of a tent, especially if the campers are packing light. Sleeping bags and bivouac sacks can also be used as backup gear during foul weather. For even more comfort, many campers carry sleeping pads along with sleeping bags. Sleeping pads are placed underneath sleeping bags in order to have cushion, which gives campers a more comfortable rest. Alternately they can opt to use air mattresses which can be inflated and deflated. Sleeping bags are a must for every camper. Never go camping without one.

Once you’re there don’t try to be a daredevil and leave your ego at home. The professionals know that you should always rule on the side of safety. If something looks too dangerous then don’t do it. Showing off will result in nothing but possible injury and hospitalization. Know your physical limits and be aware of the terrain. Pulled tendons and ligaments and injuries from falling rocks are some of the most common injuries. If you’ve never climbed in a certain area seek advice from others who have experience with the location. Awareness is another key to safety. Be aware of your environment including the weather and the physical factors of the terrain. Ensure rocks are secure and handholds are correctly assessed. Know who you are climbing with and know their experience and level of expertise. Leave arguments and attitudes behind; fights and confrontations will only lead to distracting you and making you less focused. Communication is very important and goes both ways. You need to be clear when you say something and you need to listen carefully when a fellow climber says something to you. Know you’re hand signals and review them before you begin your climb. Climbing is a strenuous activity and you need to be fit enough to climb before you even go to the climbing location. Don’t go climbing if you feel under the weather or you’re recovering from a previous injury. Before endeavoring on a climb perform some stretches so your muscles won’t be stiff and will be more prepared for the strain of climbing. ountain and rock climbing is one of the most exciting and exhilarating outdoor sports. It’s no wonder that so many have taken up climbing. Experienced climbers know that there are safety concerns associated with climbing. Ignoring safety can lead to injury and even fatality. While it’s true that it is important to inspect gear and make sure it’s up to par, safety is even more than that. First off, let others know where you’re going to be climbing and when you’re supposed to return. Follow your planned route; if you deviate and get lost then no one will know where you are. Cell phones won’t work where you’ll be going. You should always bring someone with you when you climb but this does not negate the advice to let people know where you’ll be.

Climbing is an uplifting activity and some even say it’s a religious experience. Safety is a major concern so prepare for your climb, make sure you are physically able and be aware of your surroundings. Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Golf Balls balls perform better in cold water. TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE RIGHT BALLS FOR YOU:
Considerations for Driving
Distance balls are designed to fly further and with more accuracy. This means you will be less likely to land in the rough, in a hazard, or out of bounds. Distance balls have their drawbacks, however, as they will be harder to stop on the green. Mid to high handicappers should favor a distance ball.
Optimum Performance in Your Approach
Spin balls are made with outer layers that take on more spin when you strike them with angled club faces. Drawing or fading around obstacles and hazards therefore becomes easier, as they will bend more to the left or right. They also take on more backspin when struck with a lofted club – this is important, as the balls will therefore stop more quickly on the green. Whilst spin balls used to be made with fragile outer layers that were prone to damage, this problem has now been largely averted with the introduction of solid multilayer construction, replacing the old flimsy balata covers.
Getting More Control Size of the ball
The “Rules of Golf” says that a golf ball’s diameter must be a minimum of 1.680 inches / 42.67 mm. A smaller ball would fly much further than a larger ball. The reason for this is simple: with a smaller diameter the ball has less air resistance, or in other words, it displaces less air as it flies. Because of this, most manufacturers produce golf balls with the minimal diameter (1.680 inches / 42.67 mm).
Weight of the ball
A golf ball’s weight must not exceed 1.620 oz./ 45.93 g according to the “Rules of Golf”. The heavier the ball, the greater its momentum, and the less it would be slowed down by air resistance. Hence it would tend to fly further. For this reason most manufacturers produce golf balls with the heaviest sanctioned weight of 1.620 oz./ 45.93 g.
Compression Rates
In the manufacturing process, some two-piece, and all three-piece balls are rated by their compression measurements. This is done by pressuring them with a standard weight Balls that don’t deform at all are rated Compression 200, while balls that deform by 0.2” or above are rated Compression 0. These are the two extremes, and between them balls are rated in intervals of 0.001 inches. The Standard Compression rate is usually 90 or 100. the higher the compression rate the harder the feel, and vice versa. Almost every ball is subject to a compression rating. Compression rates of 80 and 100 are also found. However, manufacturers are not bound by an official standard. Hence one manufacturer’s compression rate of 100 can be different to another manufacturer’s compression rate of 100. This can mount up to a 3.5 point difference in either direction. In addition, some balls don’t even have the compression rate printed on them. According to a host of surveys, low speed swing players are better off using balls with a Compression rate of 80. Players with an average speed swing should choose Compression 100, and Compression 110 is best for high swing speed players. The weather should always be taken into consideration when deciding on compression rates to use. Low compression balls are best for colder weather, while high compression

Distance balls designed to stop quickly when on the green, but with minimum risk of slicing or hooking are known as control balls. The Nike One and Titleist Pro V1 are members of the new generation of balls that are so versatile they will perform in any situation.
Balls for Slow Swingers
Known variously as Ladies or Senior balls, these balls increase driving distance to improve the scores of players with slower, less powerful swings.
Choosing the Right Putting Ball
Differently designed balls will roll for different distances on the green. As a rule of thumb, harder balls role further. The difference is more than you would think. Teaching professionals recommend that you putt with the same kind of ball all the time, as this will help you to calibrate, feel, learn and reproduce the connection between stroke strength and distance. As most balls aren’t perfectly balanced, they won’t roll absolutely true, but higher quality balls will be generally more likely to stay on course, due to higher standards of quality control during manufacture.
Affordability
Try to always play with the same balls that you practice with. So if you can’t afford to practice with a high quality ball, don’t switch when playing competitions. A ball that has been overused will no longer be spherical, and so is no good to you. Play balls that you can afford to replace regularly. About the Author: Written by Frank Peter Frank J.
