Beyond digital customer experience
Avaya will highlight how its ‘unique’ discovery process and agile platforms are helping companies to create superior customer experiences and drive business success in today’s digital world. Nidal Abou-Ltaif, president, Avaya International
As all too many companies have discovered, increasing customer satisfaction, loyalty and advocacy is easier said than done – and customers today have a lot more channels to complain on if you don’t achieve it. Avaya’s recent Customer Experience in Banking Survey, for example, shows that approximately 38% of consumers would change their bank as a result of poor customer service. One in three would make it a point to share their bad customer service experiences with friends and acquaintances, with nearly 16% voicing those frustrations on social media platforms. While those numbers may not seem high, this was an avenue that didn’t really exist even a few years ago. Consider just how much has changed even over the last decade in terms of technology and how that has impacted the customer experience. Ten years ago, the first iPhone was announced in the US, while social media platforms like
4
GITEX INNOVATIONS 2017
Snapchat and Instagram wouldn’t be released for another three or four years. Yes, interaction channels like social media and web chats were available to enhance the customer experience, but for the most part businesses weren’t adopting them. The reality is that companies are now competing in an era of countless customer touchpoints. They’re tasked with matching today’s rapid pace of innovation and anticipating customers’ evolving needs. This has made the concept of an omnichannel customer experience integral for success. Research shows, however, that companies across the board are still struggling to get omnichannel right. Again, according to Avaya’s Customer Experience in Banking Survey, getting the same level of experience and service regardless of how they choose to contact their bank was cited as a topthree priority for consumers in nearly
every market surveyed. The insight here is that customers want to see “one bank”, and banks need to see “one customer” regardless of the channels through which they communicate. However, one 2017 study of the retail industry found that 44% of companies struggle to provide a seamless, omnichannel customer experience. In industries like finance and utilities, this number can be as high as 90%. Fortunately, today’s advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics are at the forefront of reshaping customer experience design. These technologies ultimately help customers to do what they want to do as fast and effectively as possible. By deploying artificial intelligence ‘chatbots’ and using AI to automate and enhance typical processes that customers would undertake, businesses can respond to their customers faster and reduce waiting times for key services.

The use of advanced analytics— enabled by AI—can also provide businesses with deeper analysis of customer interactions by bringing together relevant data previously siloed across SMS, web chat conversations, social media platforms, phone calls, and video interactions. The bottom line is that consumers today expect nothing short of a highlysophisticated customer experience. Bold technologies within an increasingly
digital economy have thrust enterprises into a world of limitless capabilities… one that’s just getting started. At Gitex this year, Avaya will demonstrate how its open, standardsbased approach allows organisations to integrate emerging technology trends such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and blockchain to simplify adoption and deliver measureable results. GITEX INNOVATIONS 2017
Which technologies are you focusing on at GITEX 2017? Being an application testing company, we are consistently working towards growing our knowledge base when it comes to the latest technologies trends, tools and services. This enables us to provide comprehensive product assessments. To date, we have tested applications for technologies such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence (AI) and other areas where we are seeing massive growth in terms of development and investment. GITEX Technology Week 2017 is the platform where organisations from across the region will come together to present their latest solutions and innovations in
these technologies. To help organisations who are investing in these areas, we will be highlighting the frameworks and hardware labs that we are developing to ensure that we can give complete testing solutions for their applications. What makes a digitally transformed organisation? Digitally transformed organisations are those that are able to offer their business units and customers a seamless experience to interact with either internal or external stakeholders. We are firm believers that for any digital transformation initiative to succeed organisations need to ensure

that all IT segments are operating cohesively. Being in the testing business, this means that proper evaluations of systems and applications are delivering consistent and desirable outcomes. Only by doing so can businesses fully achieve the efficiency and advantages that they aim to achieve in their transformation strategies. What is the biggest challenge organisations face when adopting new technologies? One of the biggest challenges is proper adoption, testing and implementation of IT products and applications. This creates issues ranging from nonfunctional products to complex user interfaces and user experiences and many IT projects fail because of this. For any application, it is vital to ensure that it is stable and capable enough to deliver reliable results, regardless of any modifications made in its features. Performance testing teams can classify whether any recent adaptations or frequent releases could possibly be causing any kind of disruption in the application’s behaviour. How can organisations like you help enable UAE businesses keep up with the government’s Smart City vision and initiatives? At Kualitatem, we are proud to say that we are working with some of the major

We aim to help businesses ensure that their products yield great outcomes. Our primary objective has always been focused on ensuring that our customers’ applications provide seamless user experiences. We advise them on how they can further enhance their capabilities to deliver user-centric products that can power this amazing digital ecosystem we are currently living in. What kind of investments have you made in IoT, VR and AR, and cloud? How are you leveraging these technologies in equipping your customers with the capabilities to stay competitive in the digital era? testing lab. We are also working together with our customers in testing new IoT applications, both hardware and software, as well as cutting-edge AR/VR solutions. In an increasingly connected and fast-paced IT and business landscape how can technology players help customers keep their systems secure and data protected? We are increasingly seeing that clients are looking for not just application testing, but also security assessments for their application codes written by their respective development teams. It is essential for enterprises to make sure that their application remains robust and secure even at highly critical times. Doing so is vital for ensuring the longevity of its performance, especially in a highly competitive market. This can be addressed by performing targeted infrastructure tests and pinpoint any performance issues that can cause malfunctions or security problems in the future. We have strong expertise in this area. We offer our customers services, that can enable them fix any security vulnerabilities inside their code for any web/mobile application.

Secure and simplify With the goal of delivering the highest-performing network security fabric to secure and simplify IT infrastructure, Fortinet returns to GITEX Technology Week to showcase a range of innovative solutions that aim to fuel digital transformation across organisations. Alain Penel, Regional Vice President – Middle East, Fortinet Which technologies will you focus on at GITEX 2017? Can you give a brief about the kinds of announcements or launches we can expect from you at the show? Fortinet will be focusing on the extended capabilities of the Fortinet Security Fabric, and will demonstrate how we are helping ‘borderless’ enterprises across the region meet the challenges of securing their IoT and the cloud infrastructure and everything in between. We will also be showcasing the cloud-based threat intelligence platform, FortiGuard Threat Intelligence Services (TIS) that provides threat metrics and activity trends to enable CISOs in the region to proactively defend their enterprises against rapidly evolving threats. What, in your opinion, makes a digitally transformed organisation? From a network security vendor point of view, the linchpin to success in a digitally transformed organisation is a business’ ability to flexibly secure its sensitive data and create digital trust with its customers and ecosystem. Tremendous value and competitive edge is created through the effective use of data, and businesses across all industries are using it to transform themselves and generate net new revenue

streams. Data has become the fuel of the next generation business economy. What is the biggest challenge organisations face when adopting new technologies? New technologies bring new challenges, and the biggest challenge is understanding if the technology supports the business’s overall goal. The other challenge is its harmonious integration with existing legacy systems. How can organisations like you help enable UAE businesses keep up with the government’s Smart City vision and initiatives? As cities move more into the world of smart technology and smart systems, Fortinet is helping to address that most crucial aspect of a smart city – its security. We provide the intelligence, planning, framework and expertise, as well as the Fortinet Security Fabric architecture in a way that ties it all together, from endpoint smart sensors all the way through to servers and systems – even those in the cloud. What kind of investments have you made in IoT, VR and AR, and cloud? How are you leveraging these technologies in equipping your
customers with the capabilities to stay competitive in the digital era? To tackle the modern-day security challenges that these new technologies pose to businesses, Fortinet has extended the performance, automation, visibility, and management of the Fortinet Security Fabric into all types of cloud environments, spanning across private and public cloud ecosystems. This enables businesses to experience the same level of cybersecurity and threat intelligence in cloud environments as they do on their physical networks. How are you enabling your distributor and channel partners to optimise the opportunities in the IoT and digital era? By tying traditional security appliances and emerging technologies together into an integrated security fabric, partners can help their customers collect and respond to more actionable intelligence, synchronise threat responses, and centralise the creation, distribution, and orchestration of their security management and analysis. This broad visibility and open-standards approach is one that we provide through the Fortinet Security Fabric to allow solution providers to implement more automation to focus on the alerts that really matter.

At GITEX Technology Week 2017, Riverbed will demonstrate how its visibility and SD-WAN offerings can aid enterprises’ race to being digitally transformed organisations. Elie Dib, Senior Managing Director, METNA, Riverbed Please share a brief overview of the company. Riverbed Technology has a long legacy of market leadership, having pioneered WAN optimisation. Since then, we’ve expanded our solutions for the software-defined era. We’re at the centre of hybrid networking, the cloud, SD-WAN, SaaS, mobile, Big Data, and infrastructure visibility. We provide an architecture for application performance that enables businesses to understand, optimise, simplify and protect their apps and data, even as app infrastructure becomes increasingly complex with apps coming from the cloud and from on-premises data centres, and running over the Internet and private networks. Simply put, we make applications, websites, networks, data centres, the cloud, and remote offices work better and bring the promise of digital transformation to life. What does Riverbed hope to achieve from participating at GITEX? Our focus this year is on IT decision makers and CIOs. It’s imperative to approach high-level executives to demonstrate why their businesses need our solutions. We will host live demos of our solutions for

visitors. GITEX gives us the ability to make a significant impact in a relatively short amount of time and we have designed our product demos to be concise and yet highly informative. Which technologies will you focus on at GITEX 2017? Under the theme ‘Experience the Future of Application Networking’, we will showcase the Riverbed SteelCentral portfolio, visibility solution for end-to-end network, application and end-user experience monitoring, and our application-defined Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN) solution, Riverbed SteelConnect. Riverbed SteelCentral is designed to deliver the end-to-end visibility businesses need. The solution now provides integrated visibility into digital experience, reduces the risk during application migrations, both on and off the cloud, enables businesses to manage outcomes across the application lifecycle, and delivers integrated network and infrastructure troubleshooting and monitoring. Riverbed SteelConnect unifies deployment and orchestration of hybrid WANs (Internet & MPLS), branch networks (LAN & WLAN), and cloud
environments, including one-click connectivity to AWS and Microsoft Azure. What, in your opinion, makes a digitally transformed organisation? Digital transformation will look different for different organisations, depending on their industry vertical, size, geographic location and other factors. However, what we can agree on is that applications are at the heart of digital transformation – whether they are being used to streamline internal processes or deliver new and exciting customer services. The performance of these applications is largely dependent on the network. In our Future of Networking Global Survey 2017, we uncovered that the network is at the core of digital transformation as 98 percent of respondents agreed that a next-gen network is critical to keep up with the needs of their business and end-users. Take cloud for example – it is a core tenant of the digital transformation for most organisations and 91 percent of respondents say their organisation’s cloud strategy will only reach its full potential with a next-generation network.

GITEX INNOVATIONS 2017
Can you give a brief about the kinds of announcements or launches we can expect from you at the show? There will be several announcements that we will announce during GITEX, which will include new partnership agreements and the launch of our cloud platform. What, in your opinion, makes a digitally transformed organisation? While an important element of digital transformation is technology, I believe there should in fact be more emphasis on the need to shed outdate processes and upgrade legacy technology, over just simply adopting new technology. A digitally transformed organisation will need to have a strategy in place to ensure the integration of technology into all areas of a business, that will in turn result in fundamental changes in how businesses operate and deliver value to customers. Beyond that, it’s a cultural change that requires organisations to continually challenge the status quo, experiment often, and get comfortable with failure. This sometimes means walking away from long-standing
business processes that companies were built upon in favour of relatively new practices that are still being defined. What is the biggest challenge organisations face when adopting new technologies? The main challenges continue to be an organisation’s ability to change and simplify processes, resistance of employees, management without strategy and failing to understand the benefits behind new technology. What kind of investments have you made in IoT, VR and AR, and cloud? How are you leveraging these technologies in equipping your customers with the capabilities to stay competitive in the digital era? We have created two business units to provide solutions in both the IoT and cloud space. We have signed partnerships with several vendors who provide innovative IoT solutions and platforms, and we have also recently launched our own cloud platform that can provide our IT partners with their own branded sub-store.

Filling the gaps Jose Menacherry, managing director, Bulwark Technologies, why there is a growing demand for strong and integrated security solutions. Jose Menacherry, managing director, Bulwark Technologies
The use of technology to radically improve business processes is a great requirement for companies across the globe. Organisations across multiple industries are using digital advances such as analytics, mobility, social media and smart embedded devices as well as improving their use of traditional technologies to change customer relationships, internal processes and value propositions. However, as this positive trend continues endpoints, at the same time, are becoming increasingly vulnerable as proven by the recent cases new malware and ransomware witnessed around the globe. “With more and more devices getting connected at an exponential rate, organisations need to ensure that their customers have devices and endpoints having adequate protection, not only for the data it handles, but also to assure that the hackers do not use them for other targeted attacks,” says Jose Thomas Menachery, managing director, Bulwark Technologies. Bulwark, a value-added distributor focused on ICT and IT security, aims to

The end game Kaspersky Lab’s Managing Director for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa Maxim Frolov gives the lowdown on why the endpoint protection firm is ready to guard the region’s critical infrastructure from cyber-threats. Maxim Frolov, managing director, Middle East, Turkey and Africa, Kaspersky Lab
Please share a brief overview of the company. Kaspersky Lab is the world’s largest privately-owned cybersecurity company. We operate in 200 countries and territories and have 37 offices in 32 countries. Over 3,700 highly-qualified specialists work for Kaspersky Lab. Our independence allows us to be more agile; to think differently and act faster. We are forever innovating, delivering protection that’s effective, usable and accessible. We pride ourselves on developing world-leading security that keeps us – and every one of our 400 million users protected by our technologies, and 270,000 corporate clients – one step ahead of potential threats. We’ve celebrated 20 years globally and 10 years in the UAE. We have a team of over 40 in the country, the office that acts as a hub for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) regions. To show our commitment to the region, we moved all META HQ teams and

operations from Moscow to the UAE. Endpoint security has been the core of our business in the past few years; especially in the small-to-mediumsized business segment. However, we’re anticipating high growth in the enterprise market, particularly in the non-endpoint security area. GReAT, our Global Research and Analysis Team, is an elite group of over 40 leading security experts who operate all over the world and provide leading anti-threat intelligence and research. Two members of them are solely based in the Middle East. The team is well-known for the discovery and dissection of the world’s most sophisticated threats, including cyberespionage and cyber-sabotage threats. Which technologies will you focus on at GITEX Technology Week 2017? Critical infrastructure everywhere in the world is a potential target, and will be one of our core focuses at Gitex Technology Week 2017. Cyber-attacks on critical and industrial environments are on the
rise and Kaspersky Lab has detected incidents in every corner of the world. As the world’s largest exporter of oil and gas, the Middle East is a particularly attractive target for threat actors, whether they are statesponsored or criminally minded. For example, 2012 saw the emergence of the highly complex Shamoon attack on Saudi Aramco. This was followed by other incidents around the Middle East and the region. Therefore, we aim to deploy critical infrastructure security demos at our booth as well as feature Kaspersky Interactive Protection Simulation; which is an exercise that places IT security teams from corporations and government departments into a simulated business environment facing a series of unexpected cyber-threats. We will also feature various demos and presentations for other award winning products in our enterprise portfolio including our Kaspersky Anti Targeted Attack platform and Kaspersky Fraud Prevention.

@tahawultech
Can you give a brief about the kinds of announcements or launches we can expect from you at the show? Kaspersky Lab will introduce a comprehensive endpoint detection and response (EDR) solution that features award-winning, multi-layered detection and automated remediation across the entire network. This security portfolio provides businesses with prevention through its nextgeneration endpoint security suit, detection based on the Kaspersky Anti Targeted Attack platform, and prediction and response by threat intelligence services What, in your opinion, makes a digitally transformed organisation? Digital transformation of an organisation is essentially the adoption of technology in a way that makes a process or a system more efficient and seamless than before. It is also about the integration of various systems across the organisation to enable a dashboard view of the various functions and processes that comprise the whole. From our point of view, digital transformation is a technologycentred way of doing business, giving rise to a more integrated and collaborative workforce, better insight into processes and results from diverse functions. What are the biggest challenges organisations face when adopting new technologies? In any technology upgrade scenario, there are two elements that need to take top priority. One is ensuring compatibility with existing systems and processes, and the second is the buy-in and training of the human element.
@tahawultech www.tahawultech.com
“Companies spend about 80% of their security budgets on trying to prevent breaches and only 20% on predicting, detecting and responding to attacks.” If a new technology is not compatible with existing systems that are already serving the organisation well, it can lead to a disruption in productivity and ultimately affect the business. It can also cause technology silos, which will result in greater investments and efforts in keeping diverse systems running, and the building of new processes to integrate data or processes between the disparate systems. From an end-user adoption point-of-view, an organisation can invest in the latest and best technology solution, but if it doesn’t ultimately result in an improvement of the working experience, users may resist the adoption and doom the adoption to failure. How can you help enable UAE businesses keep up with the government’s Smart City vision and initiatives? Our work with our customers – and the market at large – is to ensure that organisational technology infrastructure is secure from external threats. IT and cybersecurity professionals are constantly at odds with threats and challenges that are growing in complexity, and it is a full-time task to keep the organisation secure. In an increasingly connected and fast-paced IT and business
landscape, how can technology players help customers keep their systems secure and data protected? Kaspersky Lab is committed to making IT in the region safer. Today, companies spend about 80% of their security budgets on trying to prevent security breaches and only 20% on predicting, detecting and responding to attacks. But since there is no such thing as 100% security against being hacked, this strategy poses some risk: attackers that manage to break into the network can then siphon data away while remaining undetected. Companies need to invest their security resources in a more diverse way. We believe that 60% of security investments will soon be targeted at attack detection and response, as well as on the prediction of possible future attacks. This will enable companies to develop a comprehensive security strategy and cope with the realities of modern-day cyber-attacks. Businesses need access to tools and intelligence that will enable them to discover and block even highly sophisticated attacks at any stage of their development. We see GITEX Technology Week as an immense opportunity for us to discuss important security issues with relevant people as well as meet our current and potential partners and customers.

and Big Data, and launch new IT and IP products and solutions, such as, our NextGen Intelligent Cloud Security solution, among others. We will announce new business, technology and industry alliances as well as showcase the latest jointly developed solutions from Dubai OpenLab. What, in your opinion, makes a digitally transformed organisation? Digitalisation is reshaping customer expectations, and a digital organisation is one which is responsive to these new demands. To successfully go digital, enterprises should transform IT systems, connecting with customers and partners to deliver a ROADS experience – realtime, on-demand, all-online, DIY, and social. All-cloud, or the full cloudification of networks, operations systems, and services, is the most effective enabler to bring the digital vision into reality. Cloudification has three core features: the pooling of all hardware resources; fully distributed software architecture; and full automation. What is the biggest challenge organisations face when adopting new technologies? In recent years, the concept of a
smart society – one which leverages technology to build a better connected world – has gained a great deal of traction. The cloud is the cornerstone of this smart society, and its key elements include ICT technologies centring on cloud computing, Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI). Key services and applications in every industry are constantly introducing new challenges to cloud technologies, platforms, and solutions, which in turn consistently propel further cloud development. How can you help enable UAE businesses keep up with the government’s smart city vision and initiatives? The smart city ecosystem can develop healthily to offer solutions that meet customer needs only when enterprises are able to adapt to the new smart environment. Huawei’s OpenLabs, training certifications, and educational initiatives are enabling UAE business to embrace new digital technology, and build upon it to pioneer innovative solutions targeted to the Middle East’s specific needs.

IT professionals have become decision-makers for the experience of end users in meeting rooms. 26
GITEX INNOVATIONS 2017
What is the biggest challenge organisations face when adopting new technologies? As traditional peripheral products become network-capable over the last few years, IT professionals have become the decision-makers for the complete experience of end users in either the meeting room or classrooms. There remains a big challenge in terms of having a proper understanding of these solutions. This requires education, finding the right people with the skill sets and identifying vendors that provide solutions which are simple, stable, scalable and support existing standards. How can organisations like you help enable UAE businesses succeed in their digital transformation initiatives? First and foremost, we strongly believe that education in the market across the end-user, consultants and systems integrators is essential. By providing best practices to the market we can support organisations in their journey to adopt the appropriate solution for their requirement.
