It is responsible for detecting roadway incidents, receiving reports of roadway incidents, responding to facility alarms, managing security systems, and coordinating traffic operations, maintenance and emergency response activities. It is fully accessible. No charge. Online registration prior to conference.

Committee & Advisory Councils
In June 2013, the MBTA officially opened the new Emergency Training Center. The center is a state of-the-art public transit emergency training facility constructed in the former streetcar tunnels adjacent to the current MBTA Broadway station in South Boston. It provides advanced training, exercise, and simulation capabilities in a realistic tunnel environment.
Sunday, July 12 | 4:00 PM – 5:15 PM
The Emergency Training Center consists of multiple training areas, each dedicated to different transit modes. Decommissioned and now fully restored Green Line car, Blue Line subway car and a bus are positioned in place in a station setting along with a control room that can simulate advanced audio and visual effects to create realistic situations for training. A demonstration of a loud boom and smoke pouring out of a subway car with screams all around creates a haunting but realistic scene.
Tuesday, July 14 | 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Last year, the MBTA began testing new Department of Homeland Security-funded sensors designed to identify biological materials in the subway air. These exercises were held with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the MBTA Transit Police, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Boston Police, Boston Fire/Hazmat and the MBTA.
Tuesday, July 14 | 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM

Thinking Like a Passenger MONDAY 6:25AM I must get to the office on time. Meeting first thing, followed by more meetings. I hope I get home in time for Jordan’s game tonight. If I can make the 5:10 from North Station that will give me plenty of time. I love being able to read the train schedule on my phone.
A benchmark operator internationally, Keolis helps transportation leaders meet the challenges of today’s complex systems, while always operating at the highest levels of safety, reliability and efficiency. Our workforce reflects the diversity of our communities. We are committed to inclusion at every level of our organization and value our partnerships with Disadvantaged Business Enterprises. Innovation Plenary Sponsored by AECOM, CH2M and Parsons Brinckerhoff Tuesday, July 11, 2015 9:15 AM – 10:45 AM Imperial Ballroom The Innovation Plenary session will be an opportunity to discuss advances in transportation innovation nationally in both the private and public sector. A special focus will be on how open data is being used to improve the transportation experience and how it is driving emerging technologies. Opening National Legacy Speaker, Dr. DeForest Soaries, will give reflections on our ancestry and draw a historical comparison from then to now along with the work that still needs to be done. A panel discussion that will be moderated by Rachel Bain- MassDOT | Assistant Secretary - Office of Performance Management & Innovation ( OPM & I) will include Don Batsford- Google - Waze App., Dr. Ryan Chin- MIT – Vehicle 2 Vehicle (V2V) and Autonomous Vehicle, MassDOT employee – OPM & I Open Data – Green Line (one of the oldest system), Jared Kadich, Planning and Research Analyst, MassDOT Highway Division- Corridor management infrastructure and open data and Nat Beuse, Associate Administrator, Vehicle Safety Research, to provide Federal policy perspective on V2V and Autonomous Vehicle and Safety. The Panel discussion will focus on transportation innovation within autonomous vehicle technology, V2V technologies, integrated corridor management within highways and roads, advanced real time communications on rail and transit operations, and Waze and google technology. The connecting piece among all these sectors will be data. How advanced data technology is contributing to how state and federal government as well as private businesses are changing transportation. Specifically how data is changing the user experience with the public within these innovative technologies. Additionally the panel will discuss how government entities can utilize this information to improve service, update infrastructure systems, and shape policy.

GARRETT A. MORGAN YOUTH SYMPOSIUM The Boston Debate League (BDL) is a non-profit whose mission is to integrate argumentation and competitive debate into Boston Public Schools to develop critical thinkers ready for college, career, and engagement with the world around them. We do this through two core programs: the After-School Debate League and the EvidenceBased Argumentation initiative. The After-School Debate League (ASDL) is the home of Boston Public Schools’ (BPS) competitive debate teams (in both English and Spanish), supporting middle and high school teams in 28 different schools. Each school’s debate team, like a sports team, is led by coaches who are teachers in the school. They hold practice after school multiple times each week to prepare to compete in monthly tournaments. The second major component of the BDL’s programming is the Evidence-Based Argumentation (EBA) initiative, a professional development program which trains teachers to structure a classroom so students are engaging each other in debate and discussion over the day’s content rather than one where students memorize information through lecture, note taking, worksheets, and textbook reading. In doing so, they learn the basic skill of analyzing competing claims from multiple sources in order to construct a reasoned argument founded on evidence, a skill they will need throughout the rest of their lives. http://www.bostondebate.org
Sadiya Gurhan Sadiya is a recent graduate of Brighton High School and has been a resident of Boston for five years after moving from Lewiston, Maine. As a high schooler, Sadiya participated in the Boston Debate League as a Championship debater (the highest level possible). She is also part of the Mayor’s Youth Council which seeks to empower, educate, and connect to resources for youth in the city. Since June of last year, she has been able to be the Youth Representative on the Mayor’s Transportation Advisory Council which is revisioning Boston’s transportation for the next 40 years. This past year, Sadiya was recognized as the 2015 Boston Debate League Debater of the Year. She also had the great honor to win Best Hair for her senior superlatives.
Bryce Griffin Bryce Griffin is a current sophomore at the Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers and has been part of one of the top debater teams at his school. Bryce is very fond of debate and is especially enjoying “critical” arguments. This past year, Bryce used debate to discuss how the Queer Body is Pathologized in the Eurocentric Genealogy and the long terms effects of that. He’s looking forward to discussing more critical arguments and growing as a debater each year. Bryce has aspirations to become a lawyer, with a desire to dual major in Political Science and Psychology.
Eden Gebeyehu Eden Gebeyehu graduated from Brighton High School this year, after moving to the United States her sophomore year in high school. Prior to living in the U.S., Eden lived in Ethiopia with her mom, cousin and grandmother. Getting used to the culture and norms was difficult for Eden, especially prior to joining debater. Eden’s teachers pushed her to join the debate team in Brighton, a decision that changed her whole high school life. Debate taught her to see the world in a different way and to understand other people’s views that were different from hers. Eden says that other than her mom, debating has made the biggest difference in her life.
Juan Camilo Paniagua Juan graduated from Boston Latin Academy this year. A debater since his freshman year in high school, Juan has been an active participant in debate and in his school. Juan participated in the leadership of multiple clubs and was this year’s senior President (no doubt due to his time in debate). Outside of school, Juan has been active in doing research at Northeastern University, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and will be starting an internship this summer at Genzyme. Juan plans to study Math and Computer Science at Carengie Mellon University this fall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
