MEXICO & USA WIN OPENERS 17.04.2008: The USA and hosts, Mexico, opened the 2008 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship with victories over Costa Rica and El Salvador, respectively, at the Unidad Deportiva Municipal Agustín Flores Contreras in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. Jevin Albuquerque and Mario Anthony Chimienti scored two goals each, while Ronald Silva, Brendon Taguinod and Yuri Morales all added another for the defending CONCACAF Champion, USA in the 7:2 win over Costa Rica. In the other encounter, Ricardo Villalobos had two goals, while Isaac Rodriguez and Gustavo Rosales each scored for Mexico in the 4:2 triumph against El Salvador.

EL SALVADOR POST HISTORIC WIN AGAINST USA; MEXICO TOP COSTA RICA 18.04.2008: El Salvador posted their first win at the CONCACAF Beach Soccer event after defeating the defending champion USA, 6:5, at the 2008 Tournament taking place at the Unidad Deportiva Municipal Agustín Flores Contreras in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Jose Ruiz scored three times, while Jose Membreño had two goals and Walter Torres added another for El Salvador in the victory. The win by the Cuscatlecos was the first at a CONCACAF Tournament (any level) against a USA squad since the Under-20 team defeated the Stars & Stripes, 3:0, in the Confederation’s Qualifier in Trinidad & Tobago on 8 September 1984. In the other encounter at the 2008 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship, two goals each from Jose Luis Navarrette, Morgan Plata and Gustavo Rosales led Mexico to a 7:0 win against Costa Rica.

EL SALVADOR & MEXICO QUALIFY TO FIFA BEACH SOCCER WORLD CUP 2008 19.04.2008: El Salvador and the hosts, Mexico, qualified to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2008 after eliminating Costa Rica and USA, respectively, at the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship held at the Unidad Deportiva Municipal Agustín Flores Contreras in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. Goals by Gustavo Rosales and Ricardo Villalobos helped Mexico defeat the two-time CONCACAF Champion, USA, by a score of 2:1 and capture the Confederation’s Title. The victory also progressed the Tricolores to their second consecutive FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. In the other encounter, two goals by Jose Ruiz led El Salvador to a 4:3 extra time victory over Costa Rica to claim second place at the CONCACAF Tournament and secure their first-ever berth to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. The Cuscatlecos will also be making their first appearance at a FIFA Tournament (any level) since the 1982 World Cup in Spain.
