CANADA, MEXICO BEGIN CONCACAF U-19s WITH VICTORIES 28.05.2004: Mexico and the host Canada opened Group A of the 2004 CONCACAF Under-19 Women’s Final Round Qualification, with victories over Panama and Jamaica, respectively. Mexico defeated Panama 5:1 at the Frank Clair Stadium in Ottawa, Ontario, while Canada blanked Jamaica 4:0 at Molson Stadium in Montreal, Quebec. Forward Monica Ocampo scored three times, midfielder Alexandra Mendoza and forward Carmenita Padilla each added another for the tricolores' Group A victory over the canaleras in Ottawa. In Montreal, two goals from forward Aysha Jamani and one each from forwards Josee Belanger and Kara Lang paced the maple leafs to the 4:0 victory over the reggae girlz. COSTA RICA, USA POST WINS IN GROUP B OPENERS 28.05.2004: Costa Rica and the USA posted wins at the 2004 CONCACAF U-19 Women’s Tournament’s Group B openers against Trinidad & Tobago and Dominican Republic, respectively. Costa Rica topped Trinidad & Tobago 4:1 at Montreal’s Molson Stadium, while the USA posted a 14:0 win over Dominican Republic at Ottawa’s Frank Clair Stadium. Forward Karla Villalobos had two goals, midfielders Amanda Esquivel and Kandy Mendoza each scored for the ticas in win over the soca princesses in Montreal, while in Ottawa, defender Kia McNeill had four goals, forward Kerri Hanks and midfielder Stephanie Kron each scored twice in stars & stripes’ victory over the dominicanas. The USA’s 14:0 win was a goal shy of tying the CONCACAF U-19 Women’s Final Round Qualification Record, which is held by the stars & stripes, when they defeated Surinam 15:0 on 7 May 2002 in Bacolet, Trinidad & Tobago.
