5 Reasons to Practice Your Drawing Concealed Carry Weapon

Concealed Carry Myths  Believe it or not, many people who practice concealed carry are not necessarily “gun people”.  There are many other reasons to concealed carry rather than just doing it because the Second Amendment says you can. 

For instance, a single mother may concealed carry in order to have better chances to protect her children in a difficult situation.

Gun Etiquette  When you are raised around guns you usually have a better understanding of the gun world.  Most of the time people who know a lot about guns learn from being taught how to hunt at a young age.  Others learn gun knowledge from growing up in outdoor settings and are able to go shooting on a whim.  Confidence and accuracy occur when someone is familiar with a certain type of lifestyle.

New to Concealed Carry?  People who are picking up on concealed carry for personal or family safety may not always be “gun savvy” and may need some time to get used to things such as:  Holding the gun properly  The feel of the gun inside their holster  The force it takes to pull the trigger  The recoil of the weapon after it is fired

 Practice engrains these extensively and a good amount of time at the gun range will be necessary to achieve that.

Concealed Carry Drawing  Many people new to concealed carry will practice firing their weapon but forget one of the most important steps: drawing from your holster  Visit Alien Gear Holsters for more information on concealed carry tips.

 There are a ton of reasons that require the important step of remembering to draw from your holster before firing  Clothing  Positioning  Hand Placement  Drawing Speed

 Extra layers such as a coat or jacket requires moving an extra layer aside to be able to get to your firearm.  In the winter, if you are wearing gloves, you may experience trouble pulling the trigger of the pistol that is being carried  All things aside, it is important to practice with each variable that can be presented during a life and death situation.

Positioning  If you are sitting down you may experience some difficulties drawing from an IWB Holster 

Take into account that anything is possible and practice, practice, and practice

some more.  The more that you practice the easier it will be to make difficult choices in a matter of seconds or less.

The Trigger ď‚´ A good thing to think about is where your finger is going to be when you draw from your concealed carry holster. ď‚´ Most people will instinctively put their finger on the trigger of a gun first thing when it makes contact with their hand. ď‚´ Putting your finger on the trigger before actually pointing at the object that you intend to shoot is never a good idea.

The Trigger ď‚´ Just watch some videos online and you will see plenty of videos with people shooting themselves in the leg. ď‚´ Endless practice with your concealed carry holster will help break this no good habit and muscle memory.

Drawing Speed  Think about all the different steps it will take when the moment actually arrives that you need to draw your weapon and protect your family or yourself.  Unholster your weapon  Aim at the target  Fire accurately

With the few seconds you will have to make this count, errors can not happen

Concealed Carry Positions  Trying different concealed carry positions can help improve your speed and comfortability.  The 4 O’clock position is a common one to use but is not always right for everyone. 

Play around with different positions to find the one that works best for you
