Huge Abstract Design Becomes an Economic Reality

The elevator project involved 40 glass panes from 450 x 2100 to 2400 x 2100 mm, which were decorated with blades of tropical grass, an image strongly contrasting its urban environs. Each glass pane is decorated with a unique, individual part of the motif. The main colors are green, yellow and black mixed with white to control translucency.

THE PROJECT Moor had been retained by Kier Property GB to provide a facelift for One Reading Central, the largest commercial building in Reading, a town in Berkshire County in England. With 20,000 square meters of office space and facing the main railway station, Kier wanted its building to be the premiere commercial space in the county. Thus, Moor networked Jones and Hoffmann together to bring the project to life. Jones began designing the façade with Moor, and they sent a draft of it to Hoffmann several months later. All of the principles met in early in the summer of 2009 at the offices of Interpane, one of Germany’s leading glass producers and the owners of a GlassJet.

DIGITAL GLASS PRINTING’S CONTRIBUTION TO HARLEM’S RENAISSANCE HARLEM HOSPITAL CENTER GETS A GRAND NEW FAÇADE COURTESY OF ISRAELI TECHNOLOGY

B y: Larry Kenigsberg Much has been made of Harlem’s renaissance in New York City. Economic hardships from the ’60 – ‘90s led to its notoriety as a dangerous area, a highcrime, no-go zone. Few remembered Harlem’s golden period in the ‘20s and ’30s, when it was a cultural mecca, a haven for artists and musicians. Community leaders finally said “enough” in the ‘90s and began reclaiming the once-storied neighborhood block by block. Harlem Hospital has anchored the community since its founding in 1887. At the corner of 135th Street and Lenox Avenue in the heart of Harlem, it is currently in the midst of a $249 million, five-year renovation.
