But man does not create. He discovers. Antoni Gaudi
PHILOSOPHY
Architecture is an art form that entails modelling spaces based on human behaviour. In the four years of studying architecture, my approach has changed from an idealistic to a practical and responsive one. I believe that good architecture requires extreme attention to details, sharp perception of space and utility, and quick delivery of the concept. In the words of Frank Gehry, ―architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.‖ My philosophy of design lies in considering appropriate proportions of form and function. I want to apply these skills and philosophies on practical projects to improve my knowledge and skills. Internship Period: July 2015 – May 2016 Sohaib Ilyas
This project is an experiment with different
materials, shapes and space. Designed as a construction that can be placed in various places. The idea is to develop a space for meditation, a space where you can rest and feel protected. The shape, the materiality and space make

reference to the primordial type of shelter; it is a traditional method of arranging block stones, reapplied
in
contemporary
design.
The
massivity of the shelter is broken in this manner, creating a translucent image, where light pierces through the holes. Made from wood or stone, the construction is easy and fast to build. The tiles being placed one on top of the other give stability to the structure. Furthermore, it is bonded with mortar (for stone) or metal connection pieces (for wood).
STRUCTURE AND MATERIALITY The project tries to emphasize the passage of time, a deconstruction of the sea shell into a shelter. The materiality will change and give a different image to the project.
A collaborative project, the bus-stop design challenge was to provide shelter and seating on a corner near a park in lucknow, with an emphasis on safety and structure. While the core concept of a single-post structure supporting two distinct roof types came from the collaborative work, my focus in design development was on materials, and natural light. As this was a corner bus-stop, I used a continuous curved retaining wall to

provide a level sheltered space with no hidden areas, and overflow seating on top of the wall for rush hour. I incorporated translucent glass
over the seating area to diffuse the summer sun and allow maximum winter light to penetrate the seating area. The upper roof is a ribbed metal roofing over a steel frame, all supported by a balanced stainless steel structure. Free-standing framed glass walls were used to protect bus users from strong winter winds blowing in from the north west without sacrificing visibility. I modelled the wall and topography as well as the transparent and translucent model materials.
Situated next to a cemetery, this small wood chapel serves as a place for small ceremonies and spiritual practice. Through use of natural light

this space creates a general sense of spirituality that can be appreciated by

Design boasts a compact environment for the nomadic lifestyle of its user. It provides for all the basic needs the user might have and is easy to maintain, store and transport. A total of six units can be fit into a shipping container to enhance the efficiency of the system.

Shopping malls are concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. In the context of
Lucknow, shopping malls being the hub of commercial and retail activity,
SHOPPING MALL
are bound to become spots of problems
such
as
inadequate
parking space, traffic congestion and hawker encroachments etc. Thus provision of ample parking spaces, service roads and appropriate space provision for vendors needs to be a part of planning. Choice of site for shopping centers thus also becomes critical.

URBAN DESIGN
Implementing what's necessary, eliminating what’s deformity. The basic aim of urban intervention of the campus is to sort the various urban issues and to knit into design the ambience of a university. The purpose of intervention is to create an urban space which is both stimulating and safe. The approach is to create: Vistas: A clear network of routes or paths that would allow an easily usable series of connections between various campus blocks creating a favourable image. Building Fenestration: Building fenestration shape and articulate space by forming the street walls of the space. Landscape: The landscape helps define the character and beauty of a campus, and creates soft contrasting spaces and elements. Community Space: Great public spaces are the recreational spaces of the commuters where people come together to enjoy. Street and Pathways: Streets are connections between spaces and places. It is usually developed for pedestrian use. They are defined by their physical dimension and character as well as the size, scale and character of the buildings that line them. Street range from grand avenues to intimate pedestrian streets.
Ideas: • Implemented planning • Community of learning • Spatial harmony • Nature and art • Image accessibility • Sustainability Strategies: • Support the university's educational mission • Establish a unifying framework for the campus • Preserve and enhance our unique campus identity • Promote a pedestrian oriented campus • Developing connections • Enhance the university’s intellectual environment

The Psychology of Optimal Experience states that people are happiest when they are in a state of flow— a state of concentration or complete absorption with the activity at hand. This is a feeling everyone has at times, characterized by a feeling of great absorption, engagement, fulfillment, and skill—and during which temporal concerns such as time, food, ego-self, etc. are typically ignored. This is indeed the most important factor for smooth functioning of any museum and hence the main focus in this museum has been on movement pattern, by avoiding sharp curves, staircase, instead of which ramp is provided which also is a part of the exhibition area and takes the visitors to the upper level without making any extra effort and at the same time allows them to go through displayed art without any interruption.

RAMP EXHIBITION AREA
For Visitors with Limited Mobility: The museum is wheelchair accessible, all the galleries are accessible on both ground floor and first floor. The upper level is accessible by ramped exhibition area, there is also a staircase and two lifts. The ramp itself acts as an exhibition space, allowing the disabled visitors to easily access the upper level, they will not have to move out of the exhibit area or choose another medium to get to the upper floor. The restaurant can be easily accessed via the outdoor ramp in the central area of the museum.

The living room is one of the most important rooms in the entire house, and most people spend a lot of time in it. A living room is not just a relaxing space that welcomes guests and visitors, it also serves as the focal point and acts as a showcase for the entire house. In simple terms, it is a place that is meant to bring comfort and joy to all of the inhabitants of a house. I started with the essentials: a comfortable sofa, coffee table. Designed the furniture and decor in a mix of colors and textures. Since relaxing here is key, kept it cozy and placed extra pillows close at hand.
CONCEPTUAL SKETCH
ENTRANCE
While designing the entrance to a house the focus is on welcoming family and friends. This narrow passage with stones of white and golden colour made by painting small rock stones runs on both the sides of the passage and it opens up into the heart of the house which is a 3000 sqft area that includes the living room and the dining area and gives a grand appearance.
KITCHEN LAYOUT, ALL UNITS IN FEET INCHES

An open layout creates a functional zone
•
A large central island provides extra seating and specialized storage for kitchen equipments.
•
Tile surfaces, stainless steel and hard wood add to the durability and sustainability of the kitchen.
The bedroom interior design is extremely important in order to provide that instant relaxation. Given below are the things that have been kept in mind while doing the interior of this bedroom:

There are many different strategies of sustainability. Re-cycling, up-cycling, low-technology and high-technology have their own merits in trying to achieve sustainability. Above all, sustainability means the ability to sustain, this can be done by making products from used material and providing time which allows resources and better methods to be developed and discovered. I believe that a love for well-crafted objects is the key to true sustainability
Semi circular Log Table Made using a half log of wood and a glass top. Fits perfectly on flat walls and the height can be set as per requirement by removing blocks.
Circular Log Table Made using a circular log of wood. The surface was finished using sand paper and white paint.
Bed Side Table Made using a circular log of wood. Designed to match the interior of the room. Locally available Neem wood is used which is cheap and durable.
GI PIPE CHAIR The GI pipe chair is a prototype for a simple, low-cost home furniture. GI chair is made of ordinary water pipes, joints and canvas.
LogIN LogIN is a small coffee table made with raw Neem tree log wood and acrylic base. Heavy log of wood resting on a transparent folded acrylic base gives it a floating-on-the-surface feel. The use of Neem wood adds to the durability of the table as it is an anti-termite hardwood and also locally available and cheap.

Lone standing, this barren tree holds its own firmly next to a winding pathway. It patiently awaits more joyful days when its branches will blossom and days will be happier. The road goes on.
Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach the ancient law of life.
