Welcome To Concierge Magazine An Essential Life Style Guide

We welcome you to Concierge Magazine - Las Vegas with open arms. More and more people are becoming familiar with the term “concierge”, but very few know where this customer service based profession originated. The word concierge evolves from French “Comte Descartes”, as the gate keeper or keeper of the keys. The position has its origins going back to ancient France where the royal household employed a Concierge whose job it was to see the various needs of guests and to essentially "keep the keys" to the many castle rooms. The "key" remains a symbol of the Concierge profession to this day. We hope you enjoy the magazine and use it to discover someone or something in your neighborhood. Enjoy!!

Atmosphere

Contributing Writer

This place is an anomaly, beginning with the architectural design of the main dining room. An artist’s rendition of a modern tree house welcoming you with a bit of whimsy as it appears to float amongst Aria The Shops at Crystals’ designer haven in the City Center complex. This locale is great for fun or romance.

Cuisine As a devout Pescatarian for most of my adult life, I'm quite discerning when it comes to the seafood arena. Everything on the menu is delectable as I’d like to begin with a personal favorite, the Dungeness crab cocktail. This is one of the most succulent crab appetizers I ever had. Simply pure crabmeat presented floating on billowing clouds, (created by the dry ice underneath). In the end, I suggest ordering two if you must share. While you’re at it, help yourself to the seafood tower as all seafood is flown in daily with the quality being quite evident in every bite. Another menu favorite is the Vanilla Bean Tempura Lobster Tail. What genius thought of marrying these two? This has to be one of the most decadent combinations you can experience with all the naughty and nice elements balancing each other thus creating bliss. You’ll witness a myriad vanilla beans speckled throughout the amazing air-like crispy batter with flavors so delicate it only enhances that of your crustacean’s natural essence. Once dipped in clarified butter it takes this dish over the top with the alluring combination of vanilla and lobster then flash-fried, need I say more? The seafood as well as the steak offerings here are exceptional. Allow your server make suggestions and this will be one spot in Vegas you can't lose.

Service If you’re enjoying some time to yourself, sans company, the bar is a great place to commune with others and get to know the well-versed and knowledgeable staff. The bartenders are exquisite mixologists that know their stuff. These professionals will concoct anything you desire whether they’re familiar with it or not. The entire staff is genuinely hospitable and makes all visitors feel welcome. Mastro’s Ocean Club continues to maintain a high level of service year after year which makes it a fantastic place to wine and dine. Hands down, this is one of the best! Great for special occasions, celebrations and ask about they’re private dining options.

Cocktails Two innovative cocktails designed to make an instant impression

The Soul Train Cocktail

Suffering Fools

At L.A.’s Ledlow, bartender Jeremiah Doherty aims for unexpected, but sophisticated, flavor combinations—like cardamom and tequila. In this cocktail, Suerte Blanco tequila and ground cardamom make for an interesting, “east meets west” duo; Suerte uses Blue Weber Agave that is grown in mineral-rich soils in Mexico’s Jalisco highlands. After distillation, they allow the tequila to rest for 2 months in stainless steel, making for a smooth, citrus taste that blends well with the floral spice. Makes 1 cocktail Cardamom Simple Syrup 25 lightly crushed green cardamom pods Cheesecloth and kitchen twine, for steeping 1 1⁄2 cups sugar 1 cup water Cocktail 2 oz. Suerte Blanco tequila 3⁄4 oz. cardamom simple syrup 3⁄4 oz. freshly squeezed grapefruit juice 1⁄4 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice, plus lime slice for garnish Instructions For the syrup: Wrap cardamom in cheesecloth and tie with kitchen twine into a tight packet; set aside. Combine sugar and water in a 1-qt. saucepan over medium-high. Cook, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved, 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and add cheesecloth packet. Let syrup cool completely and chill overnight. Remove packet and refrigerate syrup until ready to use. For the cocktail: Combine tequila, syrup, and juices in an ice-filled shaker. Strain into a rocks glass with 1 large cube; garnish with lime slice.

This bourbon and gin drink from wd-50 and Alders mastermind Kevin Denton is inspired by the suffering Bastard, classic cocktail developed in Cairo during WWII. It’s a great cocktail to make ahead in batches for a party. Denton suggest scaling it up and pre-diluting it with water instead of ice for consistent quality. Start with an additional 1/4 ounce and add water, bit by bit, until it taste the way it should. Makes 1 cocktail Ingredients: 1 oz Bourbon 1 oz Fresh ginger juice 1 oz Fresh lime juice 1 oz Gin, preferably Beefeater 1/2 oz Honey Cucumber slice for garnish Instructions: Combine bourbon, juices, gin, honey and 3 ounces of water in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Garnish with cucumber slice.

Jennifer Lopez Is On At Planet Hollywood

By Mike Weatherford Las Vegas Review - Journal Jennifer Lopez has been so long rumored as the Strip’s next star-showcase diva that questions have been less about “Will she or won’t she?” than “Where and when?” Those have now been answered: J-Lo will launch at least 20 shows at Planet Hollywood’s Axis Theater starting Jan. 20, returning in February, May and June. Tickets range from $59 to 219 before fees and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at the venue and through Ticketmaster. A news release says the pop star, actor and “American Idol” judge will headline a show “created just for the Vegas stage,” perhaps in all or part what invited guests saw in a private show on New Year’s eve at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace. “I’ve been preparing for this moment my entire life,” Lopez said in a prepared release. “The show is going to be a multifaceted high energy Jenny from the Block party, mixing all aspects of what my fans and I love — dance, hip hop, Latin and pop. It’s going to be the show I’ve always dreamt of creating.” As far back as December, AEG Live executives had said the only obstacles were due to scheduling for the 45-year-old star, not her desire to headline. The 2016 dates that go on sale Saturday: Jan. 20, 22, 23, 27, 29, 30; Feb. 3, 5, 6, 9 May 22, 25, 28, 29; June 1, 3, 4, 8, 11, 12.

Style & Home What is Style? That gets your attention straight away, firstly because you want to make sure that you have it, secondly you want to make sure you keep it. What is style really? Something we naturally have, something we crave or something that is achievable by following instructions? Style in relation to interior design can mean many things but overall it sums up the ability to be able to create an interior that is “good taste” flows within the home, is harmonious, well balanced, comfortable, practical, aesthetically pleasing to the eye and an overall creation that is memorable. Of course there are styles of design that have a “formula” or set of parameters that dictate that style, for example English Country or French Provincial, then there is style from periods in time like Victorian and Louis XV. Styles were created by forms of decoration like art Nouveau and Rococo, furniture makers also set up styles like Sheraton and Chippendale. Then there are styles set up on where you live like urban style and country style and popular historic eras of change, hi-tech, art deco and minimalism, and if all else fails there is Eclectic. So How Do We Find a Style? This task is as daunting as creating a color scheme. If you are decorating for yourself, it’s easier because you already have your own style or taste, you probably just don’t know how to identify it. The easiest way is to flick through magazines and books and bookmark all the interiors that “catch your eye” on first glance. Then go back through all the book marked pages and you will start to see a pattern of the style that you like. It is the same when you are going through a decorating store, there will always be a certain style of fabric that you are most drawn to, a style of furniture, paintings, decorative lighting etc. That sounds too easy. Yes it is and now you just have to work with and be sympathetic to your environment. If you have a Georgian Style home, you don’t necessarily have to decorate it in that same period, but you do need to be sympathetic to that style as you can’t ignore the bones or structure of the home. Some styles lean to different environments, Country homes need a practical style with a rural country feel, solid functional furniture, easy care floors, warm and inviting and easy clean fabrics, simple decorations. Using a Contemporary style with clean minimalist lines, would look quite out of place. Contemporary clean lines not appropriate for Country Styled living. Style can change throughout the house but not to extremes. Often kitchens have a different style to the rest of the house and work if there is an element that carries through the remainder of the home to marry it together, a continuous timber floor perhaps, or matching glass inserts in kitchen cabinetry as the doors throughout the house. Creating style is essentially being an interior designer or decorator. I don’t want to stand on anyone’s toes here, but I often believe that Interior decorators have a better natural ability with creating style and the interior designer often has a better natural ability to create great spatial environments. I know you will have your own opinion, this was a generalization of what I have experienced. I can explain style another way. It is just like selecting clothes to wear. Anyone can get themselves dressed, but can everyone succeed in looking stylish? Some people have the natural ability or flair to visualize an entire outfit complete with accessories and as we know it is always the clever use of accessories that create the look or style. Very similar to interior design and decorating. Yet another way to look at style is taste or charm. Taste or charm is the ability to create something that is well balanced, harmonious, pleasing to the eye and has a special “x” factor that you can’t put down to one thing in particular. It is the ability for everyone to appreciate it, not necessarily like the style themselves but love the taste or charm that has been created. I love Edwardian styled homes to look at, I find them enchanting, ye they are not to my personal taste. So to summarize – “What is Style?” Style is creating an interior with an “x” factor a “je ne sais qois.” It can be in a particular decoration style or period but it isn’t essential. Style is created by personality and enthusiasm, it’s the ability to maximize the potential of the interior space using all the skills, knowledge and tools available to you.

Fashion Tom Ford Spring Menswear 2015

So Tom Ford wasn't kidding when he told Style.com he was off suits. Here he stood in front of his Spring presentation in a safari jacket and T-shirt, looking all the better for his newly relaxed guise. Further evidence: There was exactly one suit in the show. It featured a different construction from the sleek sartorial that has won Ford his loyal following of hedge fund he-men. For Spring, Ford was thinking about what such men would want for their days off. There was a typically Fordian apercu—"Everyone likes to look sexy for the weekend"—to accompany an expanded denim line, all made in the USA (the only part of his collection that isn't produced in Italy). The designer was particularly taken with the way his jeans cupped the butt. He showed them for evening with an animal-print silk tux jacket.

That easy sportswear luxe is a category Ford is keen to grow, hence Spring's re-emphasis. He's addressing his own needs, too. Family life places different demands on a guy's wardrobe. And, maybe because some of Ford's family life is in Santa Fe, there was a Western flavor to his new collection: fringed suede jackets; denim cowboy shirts; desert boots in leather, based on a pair his husband, Richard, has been wearing since the sixties. Ford remarked on the passing resemblance one of his models had to Warhol superstar Joe D'Alessandro, who made the West a little bit wilder in Lonesome Cowboys. There was little chance Ford's own cowboys would let themselves get so down and dirty in his fringed suede. Developed specially for him, plush as the most luxurious velvet, dyed in shades so edible they made you hungry, it was hardly skin as we know it. "Cashmere suede," he called it. It was just the kind of secret weapon a smart cookie needs to fire up his sportswear business.

Smart watch Reviews We tested the Samsung Gear Live, Moto 360 and LG G Watch to help you make a smart choice What is a Smart Watch? What sets a smart watch apart from a conventional digital watch, or, for that matter, a wearable activity tracker? The lines are blurring, at least between the last two. Basically, smart watches are wearable-technology devices that maintain a relatively persistent wireless connection to your mobile device—usually a smart phone—and can receive notifications of incoming calls, texts, instant messages, social-network updates, and more, from that device. Some can also let you accept and conduct phone calls right on the watch. And even newer models (the Samsung Gear S, for one) can act as smart phones all on their own, without needing a paired phone nearby. Smartwatches, like smart phones, can also run apps, via your smart phone or right on the watch. These include health and fitness apps (thus the comparison with activity trackers), apps that control functions such as music and the camera on your phone, navigation apps, and more. Because most smartwatches have open software platforms (at least so far), developers are coming up with new and innovative apps that can increase the functionality of the devices.

Samsung Gear Live $200

The Samsung Gear Live is the first of the company’s smart watches to be compatible with any Android phone running Android 4.3 or higher; other Gear models can be paired only with specific Samsung phones. Like the LG G Watch and Moto 360, it runs the Android Wear OS, allowing voice commands and pushing relevant information to the wearer. Compared with the LG G Watch, we prefer the style and fit of the Gear Live. The watch body is slightly curved, which made it more comfortable. The Gear Live also has a heart-rate monitor, which the G Watch lacks. Claimed battery life: None stated Claimed water resistance: 1 meter no longer than 30 minutes Weight: 2 ounces

Motorola Moto 360 $250

The Moto 360 was the first round smart watch we got our hands (or wrists) on, and the design was a standout, for us. It looks like a traditional watch and fits more comfortably than rectangular smart watches, but still packs the full functionality of an advanced smart watch. Like the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live, it runs the Android Wear OS, allowing voice commands and pushing relevant information to the wearer. This smart watch comes with a stainless steel case and metal or leather straps. We tested the black body with black leather straps; prices for other styles range from $250 to $350. Claimed battery life: All day, mixed use Claimed water resistance: 1 meter no longer than 30 minutes Weight: 1.8 ounces

LG G Watch W100 $230

The LG G Watch was the first one we tried that uses Google’s Android Wear OS (the Moto 360 and Samsung Gear Live do as well). It includes Google Now, the company's Siri-like "intelligent personal assistant." Say “OK Google,” and you can do Google searches, compose texts, and make requests of your watch (“Show me my steps” or “Set an alarm”). Google Now also offers up a stream of "cards" on the watch's face, with information it determines is relevant to you. If, for example, the card tells you how many minutes it would take you to get home from your current location, you can click on the card and get specific traffic and navigation information.
