Year 6 PYP Exhibition Booklet 2023

Our unique understanding of our passions and interests can be expressed to inform our community and inspire action. PYP Exhibition 2023 1

Welcome to Concordia College St John’s Campus Exhibition The Year 6 students have been on their Exhibition journey during Semester 2, starting with an inquiry into an area of passion or interest for them that connects to the ‘Sharing the Planet’ Transdisciplinary theme descriptor.

An inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things; communities and the relationships within and between them; access to equal opportunities; peace and conflict resolution.

2

The Year 6 students “pitched” their area of interest and passion to the teachers, allowing them to start their inquiry by way of persuading teachers that they were personally connected to their issue. Students inquired into their chosen passion or issue using conceptual questions to gain a better understanding about what the issue or passion is, how it works and the various perspectives or impacts that this has on the world. Term 4’s ‘How We Express Ourselves’ unit had students inquiring into the different forms of action. A focused ‘Action’ week provided students with a greater appreciation and understanding for the various forms that this may take. Advocacy, social entrepreneurship, making lifestyle changes, participating in or organising events and creating awareness of social justice issues were explored through guest speakers, excursions and participating in events.

Through the Specialist subject areas (Visual Arts, Music, Dance and Drama) students were involved in making connections and using these subject areas to develop a greater understanding of the issue and how to advocate for this through various Arts mediums, meanwhile developing the ways that they approached their learning. During this evening you will be provoked, challenged and stirred by the students as they advocate for their passion. The Exhibition is a culmination of the students’ experiences in the Primary Years Programme and combines the essential elements of the PYP: knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and action. We trust that you will enjoy the evening’s proceedings and are as proud of your children as we are.
