Concordian International School has successfully hosted its 9th annual PY Chinese Writing Competition in April 2023. The competition aimed to inspire a love for writing and foster creativity among students. We take great pride in the outstanding writing skills demonstrated by all participating students from Grades 1 to 5. It was truly a wonderful showcase of their writing abilities.
The following are the writing topics this year. Out of fairness, the topics were announced to both teachers and students on the day of their contest.

G1C Tate: 我很自豪，因为这是第一次我在学校得到第一名 的大奖杯。I am very proud of myself as this is the first time I have won the 1st place big trophy.
G1C Bubble: 今天我很高兴，因为我得到奖杯。我的爸爸妈 妈也很高兴啊！Today I am so happy that I won a trophy. My parents are so happy too.
On Friday, April 28th, 2023, four different awards were announced in each class and grade level.
• The Class Excellent Writer Award (1st place of the class)
• The Class Great Writer Award (2nd place of the class)
• The Grade Level Excellent Writer Award (1st place of the grade level)
• The Grade Level Great Writer Award (2 nd place of the grade level)
Congratulations to all the amazing young writers. Let’s hear what they want to share with the school community regarding writing, winning, and learning Chinese in Concordian!
G1I Morris: 我很开心，因 为我得到全年级第一名 和全班第一名，我这么 高兴啊！谢谢老师们。
I won 1st place in the class and the grade level. I am over the moon right now and I’d like to thank the teachers.
G1I Anna: 我这么惊喜啊！因为得到第二名，谢谢 中文老师。I felt so surprised that I won 2nd place, thanks to all my Chinese teachers.
G1I Anya: 我很开心，因为我得到大奖杯。我明年 还要努力。I am so happy that I won the 1st place big trophy. I will continue to work hard next year.
G1I Marcus: 我真开心啊！因为我得到大奖杯，我写 的故事真出色啊！I am so happy that I won a trophy. What an outstanding story I wrote!
G1S Kitty: 我很高兴，因为这是 我第一次得到写作比赛的奖 杯，我的奶奶也很自豪。 This is the first time I won a trophy in the Writing Contest. I feel so happy and my grandma is so proud of me.
G1S Pryn: 我很开心，我的妈妈也 很开心，明年我要得第一名。

G1D Alyn: 这次比赛我得了第二名，我很开心， 爸爸妈妈也很开心。I won 2nd place this year and I am happy with my achievements, and so do my parents.
G1D Qing Qing: 我很兴奋，因为这是我第一次得到 奖杯，爸爸妈妈也很开心。明年我要努力得第一 名。I was so excited because this is my first trophy. My parents are thrilled too. Next year I will work harder and win 1st place.

Ms. Ariel 给我的奖杯！希望明 年我也可以得第一名！I am extremely happy and thankful to receive the trophy from Ms. Ariel! I hope I can win 1st place again next year.
G2C Belle: 我觉得很开心！因为 我可以和美琳一起领奖！希望 我三年级的时候也能继续得奖！I feel so happy not only because I won, but also getting awards with my friend Malyn! I hope I can win again next year in G3.
G2C Malyn: 我好开心啊！我希望三年级还可以继续 拿奖！I feel so much happiness in my heart and I hope I can win again next year in G3.
G2I Anya: 我要谢谢我的爸 爸、妈妈和老师，因为他们 教我。我觉得我可以做的更 好，希望明年可以得到全年 级第一的大奖。I’d like to thank my dad, my mom, and my teachers for teaching me to do the best I can. I’m confident I can do even better next year and aim to win the grade level 1st place.
G2I Parima: 我觉得很开心，因为我很努力做，所以 得到好成绩。I feel extremely happy about it. Thanks to my hard work every day, I get such good achievements.
G2S Stephanie: 虽然我觉得我能 在作文比赛中得奖，但是我 没想到自己能得年级第一！ 我非常高兴。同时我也要感 谢我的老师，是她们教我怎 么写出好的作文。I knew I could win the writing contest but getting the grade level 1st place is a total surprise for me. I am so thrilled about the result. Thanks to my Chinese teachers who taught me how to write a good piece.
G2S Nenae: 我觉得自己会得到班级第二，没想到自 己可以得到第一，我太开心了！I thought I could win the 2nd place but I won the 1st!! I am overjoyed right now.
G2S Chant: 我没想过自己会得奖，我听到我的名字 时我还以为我听错了。我得奖了，我和我的妈妈 都非常高兴！I did not expect to win the writing contest. I thought I heard it wrong when my name was announced. My mom and I are filled with happiness.
G2D Nana: 我觉得我能在写作比 赛中得奖，因为在比赛以前 我在家经常练习我们学过的 字。但是我没想到自己可以 得到年级第二名，我真是太 兴奋了！
I knew I could win the writing contest because I practiced writing many Chinese characters at home before the contest. The result comes in as me winning the grade level second place. WOW! I am over the moon right now.
G2D Hana: 我知道自己得奖的时候很惊讶，因为 我没想到自己会得奖！我真的超级开心！I feel completely surprised to win the award. I feel overjoyed!

G3C Soda: 我很开心可以得奖， 我能得奖我觉得是我写作 时会想一想用好的词语和比 喻句，写完后我还检查了三 次，希望明年还可以得奖。 I feel thrilled to win the class 1st place. I think I could win because I thought about how to use more good words and sentences during my writing. And I read and checked my writing three times before I submitted it. I hope I can win again next year.
G3C Chopin: 虽然今年我得了第二名，但是我非常 开心。因为今年是我第一次得奖！我以后比赛也 要像今年一样练习很多次。Although it is in 2nd place, I still feel so happy because this is my first winning a writing contest. I will always practice a lot from now on.
G3I Yuri: 我太开心了！我 觉得我今年进步很大， 拿到年级第一名。我想 感谢老师教我很多写作 技巧，也想感谢爸爸妈 妈让我每天都练习写长 句子。I am so happy that I made so much progress and won the grade level 1st place. I thank my teachers for the great writing strategies they taught me and also my parents who pushed me to write longer sentences every day.
G3I Songyun: 我得奖了，我感到无比兴奋！我写作 的时候用了很多的成语和古诗词，我觉得它们帮 助我得奖。I feel over-excited that I won! I applied many Chinese idioms and sentences from ancient poems, which helped me win, I think.
G3I Keaton: 我得奖了，我非常开心！我平常喜欢看 中文书，我觉得对我写作的帮助很大！我要继续 坚持这个好习惯。It is delightful that I won 2nd place. I love reading Chinese books which helped writing. I will continue reading.
G3S Rin: 我刚刚来这个学校， 所以能得奖我太开心了！当 我听到 Ms.Ariel 叫我的名字的 时候，我的腿都软了。我想 说，练习很重要，还有我很 感谢老师们！因为如果没有 老师教我，我可能就不会得
奖。I just joined Concordian this year and I won! When I heard Ms. Ariel calling out my name, I couldn’t believe it and I even felt my legs were weakened. I think practice is the key. I’d like to thank my teachers to help me to achieve this.
G3S Bhume: 我很开心，可是我觉得今年我有一点 骄傲，所以我觉得明年的比赛我要更努力，我可 以做得更好。I am very happy but I thought I might be a little too confident before the contest. I will try better next year.

了，我觉得要多练习，多背 超级词语、成语，还有要用 比喻句和感叹句。我没有给 自己必赢的压力，因为我 每天都很认真地学习和练
习。This is my third time winning the writing contest. I must say that it is good to use many juicy words, Chinese idioms, similes, and exclamatory sentences. I didn't feel stressed about winning as I practiced hard every day.
G3D Wana: 我很高兴我得了第二名，Ms.Ariel说我的 名字的时候，我觉得很惊讶，因为我一直以为我 不会得奖，可是我得奖了！我想谢谢我的中文老 师，她让我努力练习了。I’m thrilled I won 2nd place. I was shocked to hear my name announced by Ms. Ariel. I didn’t expect myself to do it at all. I want to thank my Chinese teachers for pushing me to practice writing every day.
G4C Alice: 我又兴奋又开心， 因为我没想到我会得奖。我 想感谢我四年级的中文老师 们，因为她们教了我很多写 作技巧。我希望明年还能得 奖。I am excited and overjoyed. I didn’t expect to win. I thank all my G4 Chinese teachers because they taught me good writing strategies. I hope I can win again next year.
G4C Pam: 我很兴奋，因为我没想到我会得奖。我 想谢谢我四年级的中文老师们！I am very excited as I didn’t expect to win. I thank all my G4 Chinese teachers.
G4I Bruce: 虽然我拿到全 班第一名，但是我不能 骄傲，我要继续努力， 希望明年也可以得第一 或第二名。我要感谢我 的妈妈每天帮我复习中 文。Even though I got 1st place in the class, I won’t be conceited and will continue to work hard and try to win the top two places. I’d like to thank my mom for reviewing and writing with me every day.
G4I Alicia: 我很开心，因为我没有想到我会得奖。 我想谢谢老师教了我很多写作技巧。明年我也会 继续努力的！I am very happy as I didn’t expect to win. I thank my teachers who taught me many effective writing strategies. I will continue working hard next year.

G4S Yang Yang: 我原来以 为我只会得第二名，但 是竟然是第一名，我觉 得这是美梦成真啊！我
平时会多练习写汉字， 写作比赛前一周我也会 试着自己写一篇作文当 作练习。I thought I would be only
2nd place but I got the 1st! It is a dream becoming true. I always practice writing Chinese characters and I tried to write a practice piece a week before the real writing contest.
G4S Aiya: 我很开心我得了奖，希望五年级的时候 还能再拿一次奖。我的写作秘诀是写完一定要再 读一遍，并且想一想怎么把句子改得更好。I’m so happy that I won and I hope I will win again in G5. The secret to good writing is to re-read after writing and think about how to make the sentences better.
G4S Deedee: 我知道我得奖的时候，我的心情很平 静。我认为平时多练习老师教的写作技巧，比如 用排比句、比喻句等等可以让我们的写得作文更 好。When my name was announced, I was actually calm. I think to improve writing, we need to practice the effective strategies our teachers taught us, such as parallel sentences, similies …etc.
G4D Yuu-xin: 我在比赛的时候 尽量放轻松，并且多用想 象力来写作文，我觉得很 有帮助！Try ti relax during the writing process, enjoy it, and use your imagination. That helps.
G4D Lookpeach: 我觉得每次造句
作业认真练习，对写作非常 有益处，明年我也要继续努力！ I think trying your best to do the making sentences homework is very helpful for improving writing. I will continue working hard next year!
G5C Dol: 我现在特别开心，但
是在等待获奖名单的时候我 的心情超级紧张。我认为多 读中文书对写作很有帮助。 除了多读书以外，还应该在 做造句练习和写作的时候多 练习使用老师教的超级词 语。我特别想感谢我的妈妈， 她一直鼓励我和帮助我，让我有信心。I was really nervous before the annoucement but now I am overjoyed. Reading helps writing. In addition, when practicing sentence-making and writing, apply as many juicy words as possible. I especially want to thank my mom for always encouraging me and helping to build my confidence.
G5C Pun Pun: 我没想到获奖的人会是我，真是惊 喜呀！我觉得学好写作不难，上课的时候要认真 听老师讲，然后在练习的时候多使用超级词语。
I did not expect to win. What a surprise! I think it is not difficult to write well as long as we listen to teachers in class, practice at home, and use good word choices.
G5I Don: 虽然这不是我第一次 得奖，但是我还是很激动。 我要特别谢谢我的妈妈，她 找到了很多有趣的中文书让 我读，读书让我学到了很多 好的词语和写作方法。我认 为一篇好的作文应该是有趣 的、不无聊的。Although this is
not my first time winning, I was excited just as the first time. I especially want to thank my mom for those interesting Chinese books she found for me. Reading helps me to improve my writing. In my opinion, a good piece should be interesting to read.
G5I Brownie: 听到我名字的时候，我太兴奋了，我 没有想到是我。去领奖时，我紧张得脚有些僵硬 了。我常常在网上读好的作文，跟别人学习，自 己会有进步。我认为写不一样的事情才可以吸引 读者。I was so excited when my name was announced. I didn’t expect it and I was so nervous when going on the stage that I felt my legs were stoned. I often read good articles and learn from others. I consider writing something unique will attract readers.
G5S CJ: 我觉得我像在做梦一 样。开始时我很紧张，听到 自己名字的时候就变得很开 心了。听到年级第二名是我 的时候，我很激动。我平时 造句会努力用超级词语，有 错字我也会练习写，这些好 习惯对我的写作有帮助。
我想感谢我小学的中文老师们，她们常常鼓励 我。It felt like a dream when my name was annouced. I was more than excited that I also won 2nd place in the grade level. I usually practice writing many juicy words and also practice extra when I write something wrong. Good writing habits are crucial. I want to thank all my Chinese teachers for encouraging me all the way until now.
G5S Emi: 比赛的时候虽然我很紧张，但是我写得 比较顺利，知道要写什么，因为我平时做作业 都会很认真地用超级词语，练习写作技巧。I was nervous during the contest but my writing was smooth as I knew what I want to write. I often practice good writing strategies during my everyday work.

I’d like to thank all my Chinese teachers in PY and also my grandparents for practicing Chinese with me at home.

The work in this gallery represents Grade 5 students' artistic journey and aesthetic education development in the PYP.
Grade 5 students have creatively demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and art exploration in their paintings. They have used the elements of art including line, shape, space, value, form, texture, and color in their work.
Each student took action using visual communication by integrating their PYPX Exhibition topic into their symbolic self-portraits to demonstrate who they are and what they have learned. They have used symbols to express concepts, beliefs and ideas adding depth and meaning to their art.
They have skillfully created these beautiful portraits through the course of many months.

The 2023 PYP Exhibition at Concordian was an extraordinary triumph that left an indelible mark on all fortunate enough to witness it. This highly anticipated event, which culminated a year of arduous work, exemplified the true essence of the International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme.
Students embarked on an exhilarating journey, selecting a UN Sustainable Development Goal that ignited their passions. With unwavering enthusiasm, they meticulously researched their chosen topic, collaborating with like-minded peers to consolidate their knowledge and devise meaningful action for creating change. Supported by the school community, including teachers, parents, mentors, and guest speakers, our Grade 5 students took charge of their own learning, demonstrating their trilingual abilities and showcasing their skills in art, music, physical education, and ICT.
The culmination of their efforts was a series of dynamic and engaging TED Talk-style presentations that captivated the audience, leaving a lasting impression of their immense accomplishments. The 2023 PYP Exhibition was more than an academic showcase; it was a testament to the power of education, collaboration, and the steadfast determination of young minds set on making a positive impact in the world.
