Clubs Chess Club
The Chess club began as a small idea I had in mind when the Chess craze took over the world last December, but has since grown to unimaginable heights! Thanks to our advisor, Mr. Vijay, and his constant support, we have held several meetings which have helped our players improve exponentially! In particular, special events such as the simuls game against Ninja, or the upcoming simuls against Mr. Vijay are events we all look forward to and have the most fun at, so I encourage everyone to join the chess club so they can partake in such fun activities! Not only does it aid one’s application, but it also serves to provide fun and learning opportunities so that people can improve alongside their peers!
Biotech Society
Tsheyang (G12) Chess Club President
Welcome to another academic year! This year, a brand new club that is available for all students has opened up! Bio-Tech Society is not only a club that entertains the most fascinating ideas about future prospects in human biology, but a club that will bring individuals who share the same passion together to achieve excellence. As a discussion-based club, we host meetings to discuss the purpose, function and ethicality of various technologies. However, the club is also insanely fun, with activities like games in each meeting to ensure everyone has learned something new! Biotechnology is one of the most intriguing branches of biology, and it has become a very real possibility for it to become even more prevalent. So, what is stopping you from learning more about it? You don’t need to be extremely passionate about biotechnology, because anyone with a curious mind and thirst for knowledge is welcome in our new club! 50 52 CONCORDIAN IMPACT - ISSUE 38
We will be discussing three topics this year, including: biosensors, genetic engineering, and 3D bioprinting. However, you are always free to explore whatever you want! Moreover, our officer team is planning some upcoming conferences, so stay tuned! Now, what are you waiting for? If you are currently in Grade 9 or above, come and pop in; we’d love to have you! Hope to see you there! Sheen (G10) Bio-Tech Society President,
Crisis Relief Club
Our first project was a big success, and it was all thanks to the
wonderful support from our school community. We managed to collect 145,526 baht to help people in Turkey who were affected by the recent earthquakes. But we're just getting started! We have big dreams. At Crisis Relief Fund, We want to help the people that had the rug pulled underneath their feet, those who lost everything in an instant, and those who seek the most support. We hope the community will be more active and engaging when it comes to helping the less fortunate. We believe that when we all work together, we can really make a difference and help communities heal and grow stronger!
Student Life and Service
As we keep going, we're full of hope and excitement for what we can achieve. Our newly established club hopes to inspire and create change amongst the younger generation, not only to spread awareness but also to think of innovative ways to provide support. We want you to be a part of this journey, to help us build a world where giving is a way of life, one small step at a time. At this current moment in time, Moroccan people faced a 6.8 magnitude earthquake, leaving over 5000 citizens either injured or deceased. We hope to provide our help and hope the community will show enthusiasm. Tsheyang (G12) President of Crisis Relief Fund
World Scholar’s Cup
The World Scholar’s Cup is an international academic competition
that has a yearly-updated theme and curriculum with six subjects, and features four main events: Debate, where scholars in teams of three debate over curriculum-relevant motions; the Scholar’s Challenge - a multiple choice test that evaluates scholars’ knowledge of the curriculum; the Writing Challenge - where scholars are challenged to write a thoughtful piece based on six prompts that correspond to each of the curriculum’s subjects; and the Scholar’s Bowl - a teambased event where scholars have to figure out questions that use different relevant medias and make connections between subjects before time runs out. Every year, thousands of students around the world participate and students from Concordian have done very well at the Bangkok Global Round that was held in September 2023. The World Scholar’s Cup club here at Concordian is primarily focused on tutoring younger students in the MYP that are attending the World Scholar’s Cup, however we encourage our members to compete at the rounds too if they are able. If you are interested in joining the World Scholar's Cup this year, please email imboonc_2027@concordian.org or burgers_2026@concordian.org (or you can wait for our registration after the winter break).
BarriersMUN
Inequality is a rampant issue everywhere and educational inequality
is more apparent to us as students. BarrierMUN seeks to tackle this fundamental issue through conjoining the passion of a handful of students with a will to spread what they enjoy so greatly. Currently Model United Nations (or MUN) is effectively limited to private and international schools, indicative of the lackluster and impoverished public education system. BarrierMUN is an initiative that aims to increase accessibility to Model United Nations - an activity that allows students to simulate policy making in the UN through the representation of different countries and perspectives, namely as a means to expand access to relevant activities that generate interest in civil debate, international relations, communication, critical thinking, and research. We started off with the building blocks of translating rules and procedures, along with basic resources to train our first batch of participants in an online webinar session. Now we are in the midst of organizing an online conference to allow for participants to use the skills they have gained. In the future, we look forward to increasing the accessibility of our resources in tandem with the overarching goal of affording more students the opportunity to participate in MUN. Recently, in our endeavor to raise money for our in-person conference, we submitted an application to the Global Youth Action Fund set up by the International Baccalaureate. As one of over 500 applicants to the fund, we had to submit a 3 minute video, slide pitch deck, and answer questions, outlining our initiative and intentions with the grant proceeds. On the day the results were released, I remember anxiously waiting and frantically checking my email every so often. Finally at about 7:00 PM, I vividly remember the elation as I saw an email by the grant organizers detailing that we had been one of the groups chosen, followed by a few joyous phone calls announcing the news to the rest of the team. As a result, we received 2,000 USD and free admission to a social entrepreneurship course the IB had set up. We are extremely grateful to have received the grant, and look forward to putting this newly earned capital to good use.

51 53 CONCORDIAN CONCORDIAN IMPACT IMPACT -- ISSUE ISSUE 38 38
Our initiative has students from over ten schools from all over Thailand, and is a testament to the tight knit and resourceful MUN community. Concordian is the school with the most members in BarrierMUN; as such I would like to give a special shoutout to Kenji (G11), Mily (G11), Mei (G10), Peam (G11), Doudou (G11), Kenjung (G8), Peipei (G10), Bow (G10), Otto (G10), and Henry (G10). Without everyone's hard work, what the organization has achieved would not be possible. We look forward to breaking down the barriers to MUN; the next chapter for BarrierMUN is being written.
