WHAT YOU'LL NEED

EDIBLES

• Cookie dough

• Royal icing

• Fondant icing

• Cachous

• Wilton gel colour, brown

• Edible art paint, black

TOOLS

• Meri meri sausage dog cookie cutter

• Rolling pin

• Knife

• Knitting Weave Mould

• 3 icing bags (I use sandwich bags and a clip)

• Toothpick

• Baking paper

Method

1. Roll out your cookie dough and cut out your dogs with the cookie cutter remembering to dip the cutter in cornflour in between so it doesn’t stick. Chill the cookies on their tray in the fridge for ten minutes prior to baking so they keep their shape. Bake the cookies and let them cool.

2. Roll some fondant onto your knitting weave mould. Carefully peel it off. If it is sticking, dust the mould with some icing sugar and start again.

3. Using a sharp knife cut out some little clothes for the dogs. A scarf, hat, coat and a collar. Use the cookie cutter as a guide for sizes.

4. Once the cookies are cooled, its time to ice.

Prepare some royal icing in a bowl, enough to cover the cookies. Mix it to a toothpaste-like consistency. Add a little brown food colouring.

Pop it into an icing bag and then line the cookies to create a dam for the thinner icing not to leak out.

5. Empty the leftover contents your icing bag into a bowl and add a little water.

I just add a sprinkle at a time as it doesn’t take much. This will thin out your icing to a shampoo like consistency. As you are using the same icing the colour will match perfectly and disguise the dam. Pop your icing into a new icing bag and ice the cookies inside the dam, using a toothpick to get rid of any bubbles.

6. Now you can dress your dogs with the cute outfits you have made! If you have made a collar, add a silver cachous. Let the icing dry. It can take several hours.

7. Make some darker brown royal icing to the thicker toothpaste consistency. Pop it into an icing bag and pipe on the nose and the ear.

8. Using a small paintbrush and edible art paint finish off your dogs by adding the eyes!

There you have some very cute winter sausage dogs.
