COLOUR: THE WORLD IS YOUR RAINBOW

Pantone Colour of the Year

Coral is sociable, warm and spirited. It is a bright, happy colour — evocative of movement and playfulness. This colour will be in everything from home décor, to fashion to party décor. It can be used minimally for a pop or as a broad stroke with other colours or patterns. Try it on your front door for a bold statement, as a crib or a balloon garland.

Bold Primary Colours

Sharing centre stage with coral will be bold primary colours: Bold rusty reds, deep indigo blues, and a bright mustard yellow are at the forefront of the latest décor collections. The colours range from blues the colour of the sea to a midnight sky, poppy reds and oranges that harken to sunsets in the desert and yellows like amber, honey and marigolds. This is an easy way to incorporate trends through paint, accents like pillows, chandeliers or wall art.

Myriad of Pinks

Hot Pink Velvet Footstool: Audenza

Pink is here to stay in 2019. From Millennial Pink, Ballet Pink, to Rosé and Pink Peacock —pink is here in all its shades — soft, loud and in between. Pink is seriously so versatile. Install raspberry pink cabinets in your kitchen, or paint a soft desert pink wall in your bedroom. Try a hint of pink for drapes or go bold for a hot pink in candlesticks.

DECOR: RETRO RAD

Retro style stays hip and modern with a contemporary edge ranging from colour palettes to patterns. It’s easy to be inspired by the past. Think Hollywood Regency, Palm Springs Resort and Art Deco. Photographers like Slim Aarons are popular for the iconic feel they bring. Incorporate statement furniture pieces like a glass cabinet or a vintage light in dining room. Decorate with large-scale motifs like palm leaves and 70’s graphics and fonts.

Scallops and Scales

Trending this year will be curves, scalloped edges and curved corners in homes and furniture. This trend is all things curved, wavy and ocean-inspired. Embrace curvy beds, chairs and couches or install kitchen tile in a crescent silhouette. Change out your mirrors for round, hang some circular lighting or add a side table with curved edges. Rounded corners soften hard edges, and this trend promises to be a hit. You can also hire scalloped furniture and source paper decor or patterned items into your parties!

Velvet Touch

Seductive velvet beds, sofas and chairs are some of the most covetable ways to bring this look home. Velvet in party trends includes runners and linens for wedding and party tables, and balloons with velvet ribbons and tassels. The newest velvet crush is lamps with velvet shades. Perfect for a nightstand or in the living room.

Gold

Long dessert tables are out and dessert pedestals are in! Sleek cylindrical and square pedestal tables can be assembled in all manner of configurations and come in a variety of colours. Group together in elegant dessert displays. This is a trend to watch.

THEME: COSMIC

The Cosmos takes centre stage for 2019 with celestial motifs and constellations in tile, bedding, wallpaper and décor. Colors evocative of soft purples, deep blues, and matte black are great for mood enhancers in homes and décor accents. Add dark blue for a galaxy theme for weddings and baby showers. Throw a kid’s party with an outer space theme. One of the biggest new trends we will see is decorating and designing ceilings — an often-neglected space. Modernising the moon, stars and planets motif on ceilings lends a cool design element to your home, and party!
