Ties, whether traditional or bow, are available in myriad colours, patterns and fabrics – you can even try a traditional shape rendered in something unique like leather. Cuff links, suspenders, watches and lapel pins can all take his look from handsome to head-turning.

While we’ll admit to generalizing here ( some of you are true sartorial stars) we’ve seen one too many bad cummerbunds ( if you don’t know what those are, that’s why you’re here) for our liking so as a service to the world of soon-to-be-wed men we offer you the Menswear Masterclass.

Time to Suit Up The standard wedding attire choice is a suit, but there are also tuxedos ( the most formal option), blazers ( a step down from a suit in formality with no matching trousers), and sports coats (even more casual yet). Your wedding venue and the formality of the wedding will all influence which is the best choice for you. The key to looking good is fit. If you’re buying an off-the-rack suit ( versus a bespoke suit, which means it’s measured and then made just for you) you’ll need to invest in some tailoring to ensure a flattering fit. Areas to consider are shoulders, overall length, sleeve length and waist with the first in this list being most difficult to adjust and the last being easiest – buy accordingly.

Don’t Shy Away from Colour Sure you can’t go wrong with classic black, but there are so many colour options that will not only look great on your big day but will add some serious style points to your wardrobe going forward. Blue (every shade), Grey, Deep Green, Oxblood, Charcoal and Burgundy are all seriously sophisticated choices, even patterned jackets are turning up on menswear runways and style superstars.

Accessorize But Go Easy With your newfound confidence you might feel compelled to pile on every accessory known to man (see what we did there). There are endless options when it comes to dialing up your wedding day dressing: cuff-links, lapel pins, ties (bow or otherwise), suspenders, socks, pocket squares, pins, and timepieces, but carefully selecting just a couple of cohesive pieces is the key to looking put together. Confetti: Any absolute don’ts? Mountain Beauties: DO NOT get intense facials or skin treatments within 30 days of your wedding. It usually takes longer than this for full affects to take hold anyway, and if you have a bad reaction you may not have enough time for it to remedy. For makeup- follow your regular skin routine before getting your makeup done. Don’t do anything new in the 24 hours leading up to wedding – we don’t need your skin reacting. Also, please wash and dry your hair the night before, the “dirty hair styles better” is a myth, but also don’t come with freshly washed, wet hair. Confetti: Any final words of advice? “What happens when the world changes overnight? When your wedding dreams and the reality of the world no longer align? The wedding was more than 90% planned when March 2020 arrived with all of its pandemic passion. We secured a new date in 2021 for the reception and the couple decided to move forward with an elopement in 2020. As time went on, we had a lot of real conversations about, what if? What if, we moved the reception back to 2020? What if, we lowered the guest count? Our what if became the new reality, we considered all the restrictions in place, we had all the guests get asymptomatic testing in the days before the wedding, we had a very in-depth COVID-19 plan. It was a beautiful day in August, where our bride walked down the aisle to meet her groom and say “I do”. Their first dance coincided with golden hour and there was a collective sigh as the last rays of the day lit up our bride’s radiant smile. "Daniel and I got engaged in November, in San Francisco. We had the crazy idea of getting married in Calgary in a couple of months so that my grandmother might be able to make it as well as other family members who were in Calgary who couldn’t travel. We always wanted to get married outside, but in February in Calgary that wasn’t an option. So we looked for places with big windows and were looking for something rustic. We found the Lake House and were sold! As for the dress, I had always wanted to make my own wedding dress with my mom. The flowers were done by Daniel’s mother and sister. I have always loved what they put together so I gave them full control. " A rustic wedding with an edgy touch, Derek and Judith's wedding had nothing short of their personalities. The night before had rained and as the day started, the sky was overcast but you could still see and smell the lush greenery at the Pine & Pond wedding venue. We loved all the Pinterest worthy décor that the couple and their family put together. The energy of the entire day was calm and peaceful. After the ceremony, the couple went for a short canoe ride along the lake. I could hear the music from The Little Mermaid “Kiss the Girl” playing in my head as the couple had a moment to themselves. From the first dance, to the mother/son dance, there was nothing but emotion. It was the perfect day and the perfect venue for these two to tie the knot."

Jesse and Laurie truly delivered. Our ceremony was so personalized and intimate, we certainly felt the love surrounding us. Our favourite moments were when our sweet daughter ran up to join us during the ceremony and reached for our hands! We were forever joined together as a family and it was perfect! "Our wedding weekend in Arizona was everything we envisioned and more. Starting with an AZ BBQ Welcome Dinner, an emotional Wedding Day, and finishing off with a Bike Pedal Party through Scottsdale, we enjoyed quality time with all of our guests. Our al fresco wedding day was intimate, timeless, and romantic with the fireplace floral installation stealing the show. We wanted guests to feel like we stumbled upon a secret existing natural wonder. Our dream team of vendors allowed us to select and create pieces that made the day uniquely ours. Owen and I were so thankful we put in the effort to shoot portraits in both the AZ desert and a private orange grove, our photo gallery is spectacular! If we could give couples in the planning process a piece of advice, it would be to ensure their emotional return on investment. Be sure to include in your timeline moments you will cherish and relive years after the big day.
