Mobilisation of the Masses Part I Ter111.inal a li.eathrow Today the police tried to play catch up. A vanload of coppers pulled into the meeting point just as our last vehicle was leaving. They had earlier stopped a car with a banner saying 'Heathrow import animals for torture'! Despite this the police still couldn't work out where the demo was going to be. So when 30 of us strode into terminal 2 and held a very very noisy demo complete with 4 metre banner, there were no security or police in sight. We had a completely free . rein , with airhorns blasting and everyone shouting about Heathrow's dirty secrets. Leaflets were strewn all over the terminal. No one challenged us, in fact the staff behind the airline desks were very supportive, as were

most of the passengers. There were lots of press around , apparently Posh and Becks were due to fly in or out. Eventually security arrived and tried to make up for lost time with the usual macho display. As we made our way back to our vehicles the police came pulling through the multi-storey car park, blocked the exit and searched all the cars. Along came coppers from Thames Valley (who must have been sad and lonely in Oxford) to • follow us for the rest of the day, so we regrouped and took them to a lively demo at GlaxoSmithKline . Great day. Great teamwork.

UK Airports Targetted for Importing Animals for Torture in British Labs! Activists from all over the country gathered to demonstrate at Terminals 2 & 3 London Heathrow and Manchester Airport in a co-ordinated day of action against the authorities that allow the importation of animals for onward transportation to HLS, Oxford University , Covance and other UK labs! At the Departures barrier around 70 activists in total unfurled their banners and switched on their megaphones - lots of them! With about 5 megaphones per group per terminal BAA were shamed for importing animals for torture . Even with all the security you would hope to expect in our airports in this era of terrorism the demos continued for much longer than we had anticipated. As the inept security tried to remove our banners and megaphones activists leafleted the airports to the cheer and support of passengers and staff alike! Eventually the security gave up their task to the Police,

who after putting their guns down (nothing will scare us!) escorted the groups from the term inals - who continued to demonstrate and leaflet! We continued our day with a mobile demo - racing from location to location until we arrived finally at Glaxo HQ - on mass! Here we were met by a large police presence, who looked very christmassy with so many blue lights and bright yellow jackets.The achievement made to today by all the activists working as a complete team to acheive our aims was brilliant. Many of us spent hours leading the Police away from Heathrow and Manchester , many of us spent hours waiting and sat in cars before the strike , many of us spent our hard earned money on petrol and tickets, but ALL of us worked together to achieve this truly fantastic feat in the name of ending live imports to the UK through our airports. United we stand - singularly they WILL fall!

Part 3 Manchester Activists from the North of England made their way to Manchester airport to inform as many employees and customers as poss ible about Manchester airport 's involvement in the cruel and barbaric import and export trade of live animals for vivisection . Manchester Airport imports dogs and birds for HLS and exports guinea pigs for the noto rious Newchurch Farm. These guinea pigs are sent to other countries to be killed in cosmetics and product testing experiments . Activists were able to give thousands of leaflets to customers, employees, flight attendants and even pilots! All of these people were shocked and amazed that Manchester was dealing in such a bloody trade. They were disgusted to hear that some of the everyday airlines that were used for holiday destinations also carried animals. We then moved outside the main doors to leaflet customers , and then went on to the multi-story car parks.Outside banners were hung from several r,oints around the airport .

Once the job was done at the airport, we made our way to Manchester 's freight terminal just a couple of miles down the road. This is the area where hundreds of terrified animals are taken before being sent on to their fate in laboratories around England or exported to labs all over the world. This massive industrial estate is the hub of the import and export trade at Manchester airport . All the businesses there were made fully aware of the new campaign against Manchester airport, and one employer has already given us some promising information . The campaigns against Manchester Airport and Heathrow Airport that will be launched in the New Year by a coalition of activists and grass roots campaigns are campaigns we as a movement are going to win!

New prisoner Sarah is on remand in HMP charged with several counts of criminal damage connected to Huntingdon Life Sciences and their associates. You can judge a movement by the way it treats its prisoners so support her. Make sure you send Sarah a Christmas card and write to her regularly . The true story of a calf rescued from the jaws of death. Rhani was a baby calf just 8 days old . Workers were kicking and beating her and loudly cursing her as they hauled her onto the slaughterer 's lorry at the Sevenoaks Market In Kent. She was to be slaughtered the next day. Marion Eastwood stood watching . After the wor kers got Rhanl Into the lying there with her eyes squeezed shut as if to shut out the

Rhani is very inquisitive and has gotten into trouble several times when she has broken into the neighbour 's vegetable patch , but no one gets mad at her, because she 's so sweet and gentle . A very sociable cow who loves to be included, Rhani frequently comes over to stand behind volunteers at the sanctuary as

The little calf was so terrified that she kept her eyes shut all through being removed from the slaughterer 's truck and loaded Into the back of Marian 's car. Marion knew she could be breakIng all sorts of regulations by transporting Rhani in her car, but she was desperate to get the little animal away as soon as possible. Rhani was in shock and didn 't move a muscle .

Rosie mooed to Rhanl, and with that, Rhanl opened her eyes. She saw Rosie and the paddock and an orchard and acres of land. She struggled to her feet and wobbled straight over to Rosie. They licked each other and then walked off together.

At first, Rhanl would not suckle a bottle , and she became weak . But after much coaxing and stroking of Rhani 's fur, Marion finally got her to take the bottle . She bottle-fed both Rhani and Rosie for several months , and they grew bigger and stronger. Rhanl was also put on a course of homoeopathy to help her through the shock of her ordeal.
