Report of Giving - Page 2

Students, faculty, and staff are enjoying the newest space on campus, our Class of 2023 Patio. Completed this past summer, the area transformed into a place for students and community members to meet, mingle, eat, learn, and relax. A gift from the class of 2023, this spot on campus is already well-loved.

Thank you to the class of 2023 for the generous contribution to our school.

OUR MISSION is to provide an inspirational and challenging student-centered educational experience within our diverse and supportive community where children question, collaborate, create, and lead.

Congressional School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at this school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

From the Advancement Office

What a joy it was to join Congressional this past year. I was welcomed into this amazing community with open arms. As I reflect on the achievements and milestones of the 2022-2023 academic year at Congressional School, it is with immense gratitude that I extend my sincerest thanks to you for your unwavering support and generous contributions. Your commitment to the betterment of education has played a pivotal role in shaping the success stories within our school community. Your philanthropic spirit has not only impacted the lives of our students but has also inspired a positive ripple effect within the broader educational landscape.

In this Report of Giving, we highlight numerous accomplishments and advancements made possible by your gracious donations. From improvements to our community spaces to support for our faculty and staff, your generosity has directly contributed to creating an enriched learning environment for our students.

Congressional School - Page 8

Through your kindness, we have been able to implement innovative programs, provide scholarships, and empower our teachers with the tools they need to foster a nurturing and intellectually stimulating atmosphere. Your investment in our school has helped us realize our shared vision of igniting the spark in young learners to become great thinkers and leaders who will positively impact our world.

As we continue to strive for excellence in education, your continued support remains instrumental. Your belief in the transformative power of education is a beacon of hope for our students, encouraging them to dream big and reach for the stars.

Once again, thank you for your extraordinary commitment to Congressional School. Your generosity has not only made a difference in the lives of our students today but will also have a lasting impact on the generations to come.

Locker Room Renovation

Last spring, we excitedly unveiled our newly renovated locker rooms just in time for a busy summer season! Thanks to a generous alumnus who donated an anonymous gift to the school, we have our wonderful new spaces to augment the Rameika Family Aquatic Center. The locker rooms are equipped with cubbies, restrooms, showers, diaper-changing stations, bottle-filling stations, and ample space to change clothing. There is also a family restroom within the building, equipped with a private sink and accessible shower. Our students have enjoyed using these facilities during our new PE aquatics unit for Kindergarten-4th Grade that launched in the spring.

John J. Cavanaugh Endowed Fund

The John J. Cavanaugh Faculty Speaker Series and Faculty Development Endowed Fund was created in the fall of 2022 by Head of School Dr. Edwin P. Gordon, to honor John Cavanaugh, Middle School History and Latin teacher. Mr. Cavanaugh has served the Congressional School community for more than 46 years, and the fund was created to honor his extraordinary legacy of service by supporting the professional development of our faculty and the recruitment of new talent to the School.

Ilich Family Faculty & Staff Commons

Thanks to the generosity of our major donors and school parents Mark Ilich and Emily Hughes Ilich, our faculty and staff have a new space to collaborate, relax, gather, eat, and unwind. As soon as the space opened, our employees immediately took advantage of this commons area designed with their needs in mind, with workstations, lounge seating, a kitchenette, a quiet room for private calls, and much more. Thank you to the Ilich family for their generosity and support of our faculty and staff and for making this project a reality.

On March 8, 2023, we officially opened the Ilich Family Faculty & Staff Commons.

Congressional relies on the Congressional Fund to provide critical support for the operating budget. Gifts to the Congressional Fund contribute to all areas of the school, and each gift makes an immediate impact on our students’ education, allowing the school to offer more resources to students and faculty than would be possible if we relied on tuition revenue alone.

The Windisch Family Challenge

The Windisch Family made a $50,000 challenge to the whole school community to make 300 gifts or pledges by Give Day on Friday, December 9. We are thankful for their inspiration, leadership, and support that led to a successful year for the Congressional Fund.

The Congressional Fund

Congressional School thrives because of the generosity of our community and the impact of gifts to the School can be seen in the vibrancy of our students and faculty who benefit from your philanthropic spirit every day. A Congressional Fund gift is essentially a gift of opportunity, providing vital resources that enable us to sustain the level of educational excellence that has become the hallmark of Congressional School.

Donations can be directed to one of nine institutional priorities, or to the area of greatest need. Here’s how you directed your 2022-2023 gifts:

Gala & Auction

The Hats Off Gala was a celebration in support of our treasured teachers to raise funds for a variety of professional development opportunities including: visits to other schools and attendance at professional conferences; tuition support for continuing education and certification; hosting faculty-in-residence or campus speakers; and launch of an Innovation Grant to support teaching that is above and beyond what is already offered within the curriculum

Our faculty and students are the direct beneficiaries of your generosity. On behalf of all who teach and learn at Congressional School, thank you for your role in ensuring our continued path of excellence.
