The main design concept derives from the existing kindergarten’s lack of play equipment. The new façade solves this weakness by offering a play element along all three exterior walls. It consists of dark brown roughcast and timber slats revolving around their vertical axe. The slats are the color of natural wood on one side but painted into nine different bright colors on the other side. Aside from serving as a shading element, the toy slats provide for children’s play and learning: as the children manipulate the colorful wooden planks they get to know different colors, experience wood as a natural material and constantly change the appearance of their kindergarten, all at the same time.

The Šmartno Timeshare Kindergarten was designed to encourage interaction, peer learning and self-learning. It has an open floor plan, which merges poorly used spaces such as wardrobes, corridors and stairs into one learning landscape together with playrooms; opening the playrooms’ wholly-glazed inner walls creates as much as 700 m2 of unlimited play area. Playrooms are connected with sliding doors so that spaces, children and activities can easily be united, which was envisaged as part of the kindergarten’s design and pedagogy agenda.

This kindergarten is a specialised in development of children’s sport and motorics which benefits also the the development of the brain and IQ. It is first fully wooden kindergarten in Belarus and will be built accoring to EU standards. There are several active and passive elements that support the movement and dynamic play.

MOBILE PLAYGROUND QUAI DES LUDES Year: 2012 Location: LYON, FRANCE
Mobile playground is designed for Association Quai des Ludes in Lyon. The idea is that containers are storage boxes that shape environments and have activities inside and outside of them. Being in container they can easily travel around the city for the whole summer. In 2012 mobile playground visited five different locations in Lyon among those city park, river banks, center of the city and other parts of the city.
Students were analyzing the issues from all parts of preschool education – from building, details to processes in kindergartens and had to find hybrid solutions for each of those problems, while at the same time they had to prove that no such solution cannot be found online to prove the innovativity of the method. Some of the solutions were: vertical kindergarten ( skyscraper x kindergarten), drive-through kindergarten, Swiss knife kindergarten, Kindergarten City, Bridge kindergarten, Metro Kindergarten, Flexible Accordion kindergarten, all day round kindergarten etc.etc.
