J. K Hartman Orderitgstored have a "goodie" here, folks! So far as I know, it's a new concept. New concept or not it's good. Basic effect: The ten (say) diamond cards, ace to ten, are thoroughly shuffled. They're placed in mixed order fu throughout the f-d deck. One magical gesture, the f-d deck is ribbon spread - and the ten diamond cards run through the spread in correct numerical order, ace to ten! There's a gaffed-deck method and an impromptu method. The gaffed method is as clean as can be - nothing to be seen or to create suspicion. The impromptu version necessitates a perfect faro shuffle and, that too, is excellent. The gaffed version first. You need 22 double-backed cards, 2 sets of AD to 10D (matching backs, of course), 10 more regular cards of mixed suits and values (no diamond spot cards), and the advertising card that comes with most new decks. Preparation: Ribbon spread the 22 double backers. Set one set of diamond cards in order, then - insert them fu into the spread. Place the 10D 3rd from bottom (left end of spread). Moving to your right, place the f-u 9D a card or 2 (or 3) to the right of the 10D. Insert the f-u 8D to the right of the 9D, separated by a couple of cards. Then the 7D, 6D, until the f-u AD is inserted near top (right end) of spread. The 10D should be placed as explained, the spacing of the other diamonds is not crucial; separate them pretty equally through the spread - the AD should be 2nd, 3rd, or so, from the top. Shuffle the other set of AD to 10D. Turn fu and place one card on (its back on face of) each of the already-inserted f-u diamond cards. The order of these 10 cards is immaterial; even if a pair matches, it doesn't matter. The 10 mixed regular cards go fu on top of all - the advertising card is, say, 3rd from

face of the 10 cards. The deck is set. (Fig. 1 will give you a general idea of the complete set-up; all f-d cards are double backers.) It's a 52-card deck, plus the advertising card. Gather the spread, square, turn deck fd, place into its cardcase, and you're ready to perform a blockbuster effect.
you've upjogged all 10 (the last is the one in front of the 10D), square the deck leaving the 10 diamonds upjogged. Be sure the deck proper is pretty well squared - you don't want to flash backs prematurely. Strip out the 10 upjogged cards as you lower the deck. (Fig. 3.) Turn the deck proper fd and table it. You can ribbon spread the f-d deck now, or later. Do a wide spread. In a moment, when you re-insert the mixed diamonds, you do not want to insert one among the bottom (left end) 12 or 13 cards. Jerry suggests leaving a block of about 12 cards (at bottom), then spread. Do that, or simply spread normally - then you'll insert the first diamond, say, about 14th from bottom (left end) then move to your right.
To perform: Remove deck from case and table ribbon spread it fd. All looks normal. The advertising card shows near bottom (left end) of spread. What I do here is say, "Oops; I'll get rid of that in a moment." Gather and square. Turn the deck fu. Spread to the advertising card and toss it aside. You can casually thumb off, partially, one more card as you do this to expose another face. If you thumb off one more, you'll expose a back, which you don't want to do. Replace the f-u pushed-off cards. You've shown all the backs via the f-d ribbon spread; now you've casually impressed faces. All looks normal. Jerry has another idea - no advertising card. (See Afterthoughts.)
Okay; display the 10 diamonds. To prove you have all cards from ace to 10, take each out in sequence, calling it as you do. Then, hand the packet to a spectator and ask him to thoroughly mix the ten cards.
Say that you'll use 10 cards. Hold the deck face toward you and hand to hand spread as you'd normally do when searching for, and upjogging, certain cards. Your spectators see what they should see - backs. You, of course, see faces (the few regular cards), then backs and diamond-card faces - in pairs.
Take the 10 cards, spread them fu in your hands to show them mixed, then insert them fu one at a time, into the f-d spread. (Ribbon spread now, if you haven't already done so.) The first one is inserted about 14th, or so, from the left end, as explained. Then move to your right, inserting "equidistantly", and upjogged. There'll be 2 or 3 f-d cards between each pair of upjogged cards. The last one is either 3rd or 4th from top (right of spread). Pause here to let the "picture" of the mixed diamonds register. (Fig. 4.) Gather the spread, leaving the diamonds upjogged. Square the deck, then slowly push flush the f-u diamonds.
Turn the deck fu. Deal-push face cards into your right hand until you come to the first f-d card. Careful not to push off that first f-d card (it's 11th from face) or you'll flash another back directly under it. Indicate that first f-d card, and ask, "Do you remember which diamond this is?" The answer is immaterial; you are at the point of the only "move".
Upjog the first diamond card of each pair. (Fig. 2.) You're upjogging the cards of the mixed diamond set; the "in order" diamond set stays put. Be sure to upjog only the first (the face) card of each f-u pair. Easy enough. When
The 10 f-u, spread, regular cards are in your right hand; the squared deck, f-d card on top, is in your left hand. What must be done, secretly, is reverse the left-hand deck proper. If you square the 10 f-u cards onto the deck, holding a momentary break beneath them, you can do a Turnover or Hermann Pass. This fits perfectly because the deck is turned fd as you do it - and you're going to turn it fd anyway. (See Afterthoughts.) Jerry likes the "half spread pass". The deck proper is flipped over as the 10 face cards are squared onto it. (See REPUTATION MAKERS for Spread Pass.) This, too, fits perfectly. Another of my preferences is the Christ Twist. No space to describe it here (check BEST OF FRIENDS). It's good; and, it's done after squaring the 10 face cards onto the deck. It can be done as you talk.

of spread). Take the top card of the diamond packet (4D) and insert it, fu and outjogged, beneath that 4th card. I.e., it goes 5th from top. As you insert it, "eye count" and spot the 4th card to its left. Insert the next f-u diamond (8D) at that point. What you're doing is moving left and leaving exactly 4 f-d cards between the outjogged f-u diamonds. Do this as quickly as you can; it's all covered because you're pattering about spreading the diamonds "equally throughout the deck."
What I've been using is a variation of the "Tenkai Turn"; eliminating a "move". And, it "plays" beautifully. When you ask if he knows the f-d diamond - and he answers "no" - say, "It's too bad these cards aren't marked on their backs - then you'd know which it is." As you talk, matching actions to words, both hands turn palm down and your left forefinger points to the backs of the right-hand cards. (Fig. 5.) Casually - your attention is on the right-hand cards - table the left-hand deck proper, as is. Keep talking about backs of right-hand cards. Then, turn those cards fu, square, and drop them onto the deck. That's it! You've reversed the deck proper - all looks as it should.
Pick up the deck, turn it fd, and say, "Do you remember the position of any of the diamond cards?" When he says "no" - "Well, I'll use some magic to make it easier for you." Magical gesture, then do a wide f-d table ribbon spread. "Now you can remember their positions easily they're all in proper sequence!" And that's exactly what's seen - the f-u diamonds, in order! If you spread from left to right and if your spectators are opposite you, they see ace to 10 from left to right. You see 10 to ace left to right. Doesn't matter - the cards are in order! Insert until you come to the AD. Leave an extra card - eye count to the 5th - between it and the preceding diamond (7D). Five f-d cards are between the 7D and AD. To compensate, leave only 3 cards between the AD and the next diamond (5D). The last one (9D) is inserted to 3rd from bottom (left end). There are 4 cards between the 5D and 9D. (If there aren't 2 cards below the last diamond, again - you've goofed!)
EÂŁl IMPROMPTU VERSION: You need a regular 52-card deck. The cards should be flat, the deck broken in for faro shuffles. (You'll be faroing with 10 f-u cards in the f-d deck.) Jerry explained 2 versions - one necessitates faroing a f-u deck, the other - a f-d deck. Since I prefer to faro a f-d deck, that's the one I'll explain.
Pause to let the "mixed diamonds" sink in. Gather, square, and push them flush. "Let's give them a good mixing." Do a perfect "in" faro - the top card goes to 2nd from top. You have a key for the perfect cut. The f-u 10D is 25th from top; so as your thumbtip riffles for the cut, spot it near center, and pick up one more card. "And, to make sure .they're mixed..." Do an "out" faro - the top card stays on top. If you need a key for the cut - only 2 f-u cards are together in the deck, the AD and 2D. They're 29th and 30th from top. As you thumb riffle for the cut, riffle 2 (f-d) cards past the f-u AD and cut there.
Remove the AD to 10D. Openly set them in order, ace at rear, 10D at face. Turn packet fd. As you talk about mixing the diamonds, do 2 reverse faros - like this: Push off top card, outjog next card; push off, outjog, throughout the packet. Strip out inner cards (Fig. 6) and place beneath outer cards. Repeat exactly but, this time, when you strip out the inner cards, your left thumb pushes off the two top cards of the other (left-hand) cards and the strippedout (right-hand) inner cards go beneath those 2 cards. (Fig. 7.) Do this openly, as you say, "I'll really mix them." Now if you like you can cut, hold break, and double cut to break. Turn packet fu and spread the cards to show their mixed condition. They'll be, from rear to face: 4,8,2,6,10,3,7, ace,5,9. (If the 4D isn't at rear, you've goofed!) Square and turn the packet fd. Ribbon spread the f-d deck proper. Make the spread wide and "loose"; you want all cards visible. Spot the 4th card from top (right end
You need do nothing more. Use the same ending presentation as for the gaffed version. Ribbon spread to show that after all that mixing, the 10 f-u diamonds are in correct numerical order! And, they're almost equally distributed throughout the spread. Afterthoughts: Well, here's another worth-
