Part One THE ZENITH ROPE DEVICE
While there are several rope gimmicks on the market, each has c e r t a i n undesirable f e a t u r e s ; some must be painted from time t o t i m e , o t h e r s leave the ends of t h e rope prematurely when not p r o p e r l y fastened in place, and some r e a u i r e a p a r t i c u l a r type of rope. Martineau's Zenith Rope Device i s designed to overcome such objections.
MAKING THE DEVICE The simple device can be constructed by any jeweler in a few minutes time. Supply him w i t h two f l a t headed number 12 o r | i | brass screws 5 ' 8 " long, and a s h o r t length o f l / 8 n threaded brass rod, o r a headless b r a s s screw, or a brass s t u d . The s l o t s in the heads of the screws must be removed. Then, one screw must be made male and the o t h e r female, j u s t as in the standard rope gimmick. FIGURE ONE i l l u s t r a t e s t h e necessary steps in making the d e v i c e . I t i s made as f o l l o w s : 1.
FIGURE ONE-A shows the type of screw r e q u i r e d . Note t h a t i t i s a short stubby type. ,The s l o t s on the f l a t heads of both screws are f i l e d or cut away, FIGURE ONE-B. The diameter of the f i n i s h e d heads should correspond w i t h t h a t of t h e rope used. The short length of threaded brass rod i s f i t t e d i n t o the head of one of t h e screws, forming the male p o r t i o n of the d e v i c e , FIGURE ONE-C. The other end of the rod i s tooled to a point as i l l u s t r a t e d . The head of the remaining screw is d r i l l e d and tapped to receive the male p o r t i o n of t h e device, FIGURE ONE-D. The two p a r t s of the completed device are shown in FIGURE ONE-E.

Pull out about 3 / 4 " o f the core, FIGURE TWO. Cut away a length of core equal t o t h a t of the male p o r t i o n of t h e device, FIGURE TWO. The cut i s made at "A". Pull the c o t t o n j a c k e t back over the core, forming a small well in the end of the rope, FIGURE THREE. Place t h e male p o r t i o n of the device in the w e l l , FIGURE FOUR.
