preface. presenting this second edition of THE MAGICIAN'S HANDBOOK
to those who are interested in the art
of legerdemain, the writer desires to thank the profession in general for the very enthusiastic manner in which they received the work upon its introduction.
The
entire first edition was sold in a few weeks, so rapidly, in fact, that we believe a record sale for a book on magic has been established^ Such a demand proved more than sufficient inducement to the publishers to reprint, and in this second edition it has not been considered necessary to revise or extend any portion of the work. There does not appear to be anything to add to the preface which introduced the first edition, except that we are now able to thank the critics for the very favourable manner in which they reviewed the handbook. That the book would take its place amongst the standard works of its kind, was an anticipation that has been fulfilled ; and all that the writer of this unpretentious manual can add, is that, after having been read, he hopes that it will be given a comfortable corner in its owner's bookcase.
