Dear Readers,

Spring is in the air! Conlin's Print employee's are busy bees, buzzing around creating signs, banners, brochures, flyers, cutouts, booklets, postcards, mailing lists, marketing materials, online print stores... we could go on for a while. I would like to introduce myself. I am the new Digital Marketing Coordinator as of November 25, 2019. My work at Conlin's Print entails marketing of course, social media, e-commerce solutions, design, website and blog maintenance, and more! I look forward to working with everyone and entertaining you with my puns. In this newsletter, we cover some mailing statistics, our 40th year of business, signage, web to print, and more. Direct Mail Statistics for Effective Marketing

Data shows that direct mail is an effective marketing investment. Not only does direct mail deliver tremendous results, but technology creating direct mail, as well as personal features in mailings, make direct mail one of the most innovative marketing channels.

41 Percent of Americans Look Forward to Checking Mail Every Day Who doesn’t enjoy receiving mail or opening the mailbox? This anticipation adds to the effectiveness of direct mail marketing. 65 Percent of Millennials Pay Attention to Direct Mail Advertising Mail isn’t just for older generations. In fact, millennials are more likely than Boomers and Gen Xers to bring marketing mail into retail stores, go online because of direct mail marketing, shop at stores that advertise through the mail, and purchase items featured in direct mail marketing.

58 Percent of Mail Received is Marketing Mail This is actually great news. If most of the mail people receive is marketing, and people still like getting mail, this only reinforces the point that direct mail marketing is welcome and well-received.

42.2 Percent of Direct Mail Recipients Either Read or Scan the Mail They Receive Obviously, getting your marketing noticed is the first step to getting a response. While many forms of marketing are easily ignored, direct mail is far more likely to be read or at least scanned. Fewer than one in four people who receive direct mail don’t read it at all.

Brand Recall Is 70 Percent Higher for Direct Mail than Digital Ads Researchers studying the neuroscience behind the response to marketing found that direct mail is memorable because it involves multiple senses and is easier to absorb and process.

The Average Response Rate for Direct Mail in 2018 Was 4.9 Percent for Prospect Lists and 9 Percent for House Lists These response rates are sharp increases from 2017 (2.9 percent for prospect lists and 5.1 percent for house lists) and dwarf the 1 percent of response rates of email, paid search, and social media. With better data and better lists come better response rates.

Throughout this past decade Conlin’s Print has grown exponentially. It is crazy to believe that we have approached our 40th year of business! Not to brag, but this is a grand achievement in the print world. We know that business is powered by print and nobody does print better than Conlin’s.

This past year alone, Conlin’s Print gained multiple new pieces of equipment, experimented with different ink options, visited conferences, and more. Below we couldn’t help but share some of our accomplishments, new equipment, and featured projects.

2019 Accomplishments: Our main highlight of 2019 was the growth of our equipment. Conlin’s is always upgrading to the best technology, so we can pass quality to our customers. Digital printing continues to grow in popularity for printers and customers. The faster turnaround times, more flexibility, and the increase in personalization capabilities push digital printing forward as technology advances (H & H Group).

We are known for our quick turnarounds – completing jobs in such a tight window and we pride ourselves as one of the only print companies in the area that can get it done.

2019 New Equipment: In 2019, we welcomed a new VUTEk h3 printer and Zund cutter. Both machines are dramatically quicker and increase quality, turnaround time, and productivity which helps our customers reach their goals.

2020 and Beyond As we investigate the future, we see more growth, experimenting with new materials, and keeping business fresh! 2020 is all about continued success. The only way to do that is keep an eye out on industry trends, see what services and equipment are becoming obsolete and in turn, finding ways to optimize quality and turnaround time for our customer.

Here are a few trends that we know we will continue with or adopt this year:

Personalization

Inkjet printing is the future of printing and an inkjet printer is a large goal for 2020. The inkjet quality is getting much better and allows us to tend to much larger jobs. Inkjet is great for mailing which is a huge part of our business.

The demand for increased personalization continues to grow as technological printing advances create more project opportunities for individuals and businesses (H & H Group).

A die cutter is also another piece of equipment we would like to see in 2020. We are looking to upgrade our capabilities this year.

Printed Textile & Interior Décor Textile printing grows every year and sustainability is one of the drivers. There is an importance within the brand and retail environment of soft goods. They expect digital print for interior décor to continue for years. Especially as the retail sector adapts to new landscapes within their physical locations. Interiors of physical store locations are becoming a part of the retail experience which includes wallpaper (Big Picture).

Lastly, Conlin’s is looking to reach out to new clients. New customers mean new projects and continued business. It is vital to continue to add new clients to our repertoire. Our web-to-print sites are huge, and we would like to continue to introduce prospective clients to that platform. Overall, 2019 has been a wonderful year with a skilled closeknit team and we are ready to take on the roaring 2020’s!

Evolving to Technology Mail is moving into smart technology. Intelligent mail barcodes uniquely identify mail pieces, add value, grow mail usage, monitor and improve delivery service performance, and improve efficiency (Mailing Systems Technology).

Jake Elmore

Jake has been at Conlin's for over 17 years and is currently our Zund Operator. His job involves large format cutting including: vinyl decals, wall standoffs, life-size cutouts, and more. Outside of Conlin's, he enjoys spending time with his 2 kids and his wife who is in the Army. Go Army! He also loves to workout, sip Tito's, and work on his RC cars. 
