COVER STORY
Have you been following ChatGPT and what is happening in this space, pretty amazing, isn't it? While the technology is amazing and has changed the world, how can an organization be ready to utilize this technology? When we think of data and analytics, there are amazing technologies that can be utilized, but we must make sure as organizations, we are ready to effectively implement and utilize these technologies. We cannot be sucked in by the latest shiny object. For data and analytics to work at organizations, the organization must be ready. This article will spell out how organizations can be utilized.
The first thing organizations need to do is ensure they have the right strategy and understanding of data strategy in place. What is meant by this? A data strategy should empower an organization’s business strategy and should be a part of the organization’s business strategy. Data is a powerful thing that can empower these strategies but needs to be utilized. You cannot just invest in tools and hope for the best. Instead, the strategy should help an organization with the selection of tools.
Another thing an organization needs to be ready to utilize data from a more effective perspective is through the hiring of the right personnel. Does your organization have a Chief Data or Chief Data and Analytics Officer? And I don’t mean just from the perspective of saying you have one, but it doesn’t sit in the C-Suite. If you don’t have this, work to make it happen. Organizations need CDOs or CDAOs at the C-Suite. If you believe in the power of data, then you need the right personnel. Also, don’t just hire data scientists and data engineers thinking this will take care of things. No,
12 CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
hire them but for the purpose of supporting the CDO or CDAO and to implement the data strategy.
Along with hiring the right personnel, you need to empower your workforce with the skills to succeed with data. Data strategies should include different pieces and one of those pieces will be data literacy. In order for data and analytics to be utilized in the organization, data literacy should be a part of the data strategy. As an organization, ensure that the people in the organization can utilize what you are putting into place, both from a data strategy perspective and with the tools in place. Utilize data literacy to empower the organization’s workforce.
Also, for organizational readiness, ensure you have the proper data modeling in place. You can say: garbage in, garbage out. You need to ensure you have a good and intelligent data model in place in order to bring to light the data for the business. As part of organizational readiness, having a sound data model is needed. Utilize the right personnel to implement the data model and data strategy.
Along with the right personnel and model, an organization should adopt the right mentality with data and analytics. Should the first goal be to drive machine learning and AI? I hope organizations do not do this. Instead, use the four levels of analytics as a way to drive the proper use of data and analytics. The four levels are descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive. We can go in this order within data and analytics.
Ensure your organization is good at descriptive analytics before you just march forward with other levels of analytics. With descriptive analytics, make sure they are
13 CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
You cannot just invest in tools and hope for the best. Instead, the strategy should help an organization with the selection of tools
powerful descriptive analytics and not just dashboards and metrics. Make sure they are the RIGHT dashboards and metrics. Then, through data literacy, empower the organization with the skills to utilize diagnostic analytics correctly and powerfully. The majority of a workforce will be using descriptive and diagnostic analytics. The advanced analytics of predictive and prescriptive analytics will be performed by those who are more technical in their data and analytics skills. But, without using data and analytics appropriately and ensuring they are going in the right order, start smaller, start with descriptive, and progress to diagnostic. Then, eventually, you are ready to use the more advanced data and analytics. Don’t get caught in a “shiny object” syndrome.
One final thing you can do to drive organizational readiness, or the proper use of data and analytics is to ensure once you are progressing through data and analytics, individuals in the organization know how to make decisions using the data. What good will it do in the organization to have all this data and hopefully, use analytics, if they are not using it to make decisions? Ensure your organization has a good understanding of how to make decisions using data.
Overall, organizations can utilize technology to empower themselves better, but they need to be in a good spot to make this happen. Don’t just jump in and buy the latest powerful technology because you may be frustrated in the end that it isn’t working the way you would like. Do things right, and hopefully, you will see data and analytic success.

Technologies for Cardiovascular Disease: A 2023 Appraisal
Dr Debabrata Dash, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, Aster Hospital
Cardiovascular diseases account for approximately 32% all global death every year. Smoking, excess alcohol intake, an unhealthy diet or sedentary lifestyle can lead to hypertension, diabetes, obesity– all of which will eventually manifest as heart attacks, heart failure or strokes.
Early detection would be the key to prevention through constant monitoring which has been so challenging until the appearance of pocketsized, user-friendly digital technologies. Fitness trackers, health sensors and wearables measure physical activity, provide personalized dietary recommendations, help medication adherence,

optimize sleep, as well as monitor various parameters of the heart. Clinical studies have demonstrated that digitally enabled cardiovascular interventions can improve patient outcomes and have led to a 23% reduction in hospital readmissions. Some emerging cardiac technologies include artificial intelligence (AI), big data, blockchain, Alexa skills, and chatbots.
AI is an innovative technology that allows massive amounts of data to be fed into the algorithms which can then help the doctors in making the best decisions about the health of their patients. New generation cardiac ultrasound systems have started incorporating AI to automatically identify the anatomy, segment, label it, identify the optimal echo views and perform automatic measurements before the cardiologist begins to read the case. Currently, AI-automated calcium scoring software for cardiac CT scans, creates the report quantification information in seconds and color coding the calcium by vessel segment on the dataset slices. AI algorithms are being used to automatically detect arrythmias and send alerts to patients using wearables or smartphone-based apps that record ECG. It has been demonstrated that coupled with an Apple Watch, the Kardia was able to detect atrial fibrillation with very high sensitivity. Moreover, another research has shown that when paired with AI technology, it was able to detect high potassium levels in the blood non-invasively, which could signal diabetes or heart failure. Examples of this technology are the Apple Watch and the Kardia Alivecor device. AI is likely witnessing its biggest steps forward in cardiology for point-of-care triage with apps and wearables cardiac monitoring technologies. This is likely to augment the process of getting high risk patients examined by a human cardiology specialist and aid in earlier detection of
cardiovascular diseases. The EKO Core products are the most well-known digital stethoscopes on the market. Small, simple, smart, and portable medical devices enable the doctors to measure heart rate and record heart and lung sounds, saving it automatically to the app. Combining infra-red technology with Bluetooth connectivity, it is possible to stream the measurements to a clinician remotely, storing them for comparisons later. A wide range of digital health products including stethoscopes use AI to support the diagnosis. A Skeeper is a pocket cardiologist developed by a South Korean company. It listens to heartbeat with the level of the accuracy of a stethoscope, analyzes beats per minute and heartbeat consistency. VitalConnect’s patch is an example of digital tattoos which is a biosensor monitoring many physiological measurements simultaneously including heart rate, heart rate variability or respiratory rate, while also functioning as single lead ECG. Wiwe is another smart sensor using a unique, AI algorithm that evaluates the properties of the ECG wave to calculate if there is a risk of atrial fibrillation related stroke and sudden cardiac arrest. It not only gives accurate data about ECG, blood oxygen level or different physical activities but the use of the pedometer function helps reduce the risks related to heart disease. Cardioexplorer is the first evidence-based AI powered test which detects plaques, fatty deposits in coronary arteries with higher accuracy. It may predict the potential risk of heart attack. I believe that in the future, patients would monitor their heart health anywhere, and the AI powered gadgets will only notify them and their physicians in case of abnormal health events.
Big data is another technology that can be used to detect and predict cardiovascular diseases. In the near future, doctors will have
19 CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
access to complex databases where a specific patient’s characteristics can be entered to get the likelihood of that patient developing a cardiovascular disease with more than 80% confidence. A comprehensive list of factors include gender, type of chest pain, resting blood pressure, serum cholesterol, fasting blood sugar, ECG, maximum heart rate achieved, exercise induced angina, old peak, slope, and number of major blood vessels colored by fluoroscopy.
Blockchain technology is slowly gaining momentum in the cardiovascular healthcare after proving its efficiency in various industries from banking to real estate and supply chain. Farasha, a startup has designed the first watch to analyze, alert, and prevent cardiovascular diseases in real-time using AI and blockchain smart contracts. Smart contracts are a computer protocol designed to make digital transactions faster and more secure. Smart contracts are also used to store patient records in a digital ledger. Health providers currently use multiple electronic health record (EHR) systems to record patient data. This often leads to medical errors, accounting for third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer. Many deaths from heart attack and stroke and cancer could be prevented each year if these patients were in charge of their personal health information via an EHR system that is powered by blockchain technology. Blockchain technology also used to encourage healthy behaviors among patients with heart problems. By adopting a healthy lifestyle, patients can cut their risk of heart disease by 50%.
Amazon's Alexa is a voice-enabled technology that is already making impressive strides towards improving health outcomes
20 CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
Emerging tools like AI and machine learning might help physicians to unravel the best choice for patient outcomes in this scenario
for heart disease patients. This tool with smart speakers could tell if the patient is having a cardiac arrest by listening to the breathing and it is accurate 97% of the time. Omron Healthcare has built a new Alexa skill that allows the patients who use their blood pressure monitoring devices to manage their condition using voice commands. The Rochesterbased medical center discovered that a voiceanalyzing app can help detect coronary artery disease based on a patient's tone and intensity. We can vouch for this technology’s efficiency in reducing healthcare costs and mortality rates among heart failure patients.
Chatbots are AI messaging programs designed to elicit information from users and provide answers based on user input. Doctors should explore the chatbot options that can best be integrated with their existing technologies and use them to collect critical information for treating patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Gamified mobile apps are mobile health applications motivates patients to improve their modifiable risk factors and to reduce cardiovascular risk-factor profiles. Currently Telemedicine applications are well-equipped to connect physicians with patients living in remote areas to quickly offer a consultation to patients living with chronic cardiovascular diseases that impacts quality of care and patient outcomes. Robots in the catheterization labs allow remote control manipulation of catheters for angioplasty which takes the operator out of the radiation field. It will be more useful for the more complex and prolonged procedures.
The complexity of coronary artery disease is currently on the rise. Complex high-risk and indicated percutaneous coronary intervention
(CHIP) is an evolving concept that usually involves left main PCI, calcium atherectomy, chronic total occlusions, and left ventricular support assisted percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). With emerging techniques and technology, this concept avoids open heart surgery to a greater extent. Emerging tools like AI and machine learning might help physicians to unravel the best choice for patient outcomes in this scenario. For acute heart attack patients with 100% blockage with heavy clot burden, new devices such as the latest mechanical clot removal catheter“NeVa” assisted angioplasty have demonstrated excellent efficacy. The new-generation drug-eluting stents with thinner struts are associated with better outcomes. The latest advance in stenting technologies is the development of bioresorbable stent (BRS) that overcomes many of the limitations of current metal stents. BRS eventually breaks down and dissolve into the blood after implantation. This overcomes the need for long-term antiplatelet therapy, removing the risk of local hypersensitivity and chronic inflammation. This stent aims to leave a normal patent vessel with natural blood flow.
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has replaced surgical valve replacement in many situations and is being performed as a same-day outpatient procedure. With the success of TAVR, cardiologists’ attention has rapidly shifted toward transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacements (TMVR) and transcatheter tricuspid valve repair and replacements (TTVR). Several devices are underway to meet the need of TMVR and TTVR that would obviate the need for open heart surgery. Certainly, the potential emerging techniques and technologies would create a favorable impact on prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Following are the excerpts from his interview.
CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
The next likely trend will be the adoption of advanced metering infrastructure. Not only it saves utilities’ significant time and money but also sets the stage for operational improvements and scalability. The conformance of metering and
conformant. Controllability and reliability are going to be the mantra in 2023.
We are noticing a big drive towards electrical safety from governments and businesses. How Himel plays a role in accelerating the transition to safer infrastructure?
As decision makers increasingly realize that safer electrical infrastructure is central to efficient businesses and industries, there have been systemic and concerted efforts, top-down, to build and upgrade infrastructure that ensures electrical safety. We are not only talking about mere operations continuity. The focus is on deep redesign so that our homes, facilities, places we shop at, or work become safer.
Himel’s goal is to make quality assured electrical products accessible to homeowners, project developers, and original equipment manufacturers. Our product price competitiveness, robust local network and deep expertise allows us to speed-up switching to safer electrical infrastructure.

monitoring products will be definitive here. Subpar quality products often lead to measurements that vary substantially between manufacturers. To gain insights and act on electrical metrics, the metering peripherals need to be standard
Also, Himel is driven by a purpose. We believe that equity in electrical safety is key to economic development that encompasses everyone—a modest home and a big manufacturing facility alike. Our strong focus has been educating consumers, developers, or electrical consultants
24 CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
Emerging economies are experiencing exponential growth rates. We are positioned to maximize our ability to rapidly seize market opportunities through strategic ecosystem partnerships and operations
through initiating conversations around electrical safety. Where everybody is talking about development – we draw parallelism by educating that business stability and reliability need electrical safety, achievable through better products.
Our local teams have deep understanding of regional electrical regulations. This is critical because climate concerns and grid distribution technologies are evolving.
You are an ardent advocate of equity in electrical safety. What do you think will be the biggest driver to achieve it?
Electrical safety in communities and businesses has been close to my heart. In my experience, a top-down initiative for rigorous product testing and quality assurance can bring out a big change. This requires cohesive effort from manufacturers, policymakers, and electrical products brands along with consumer education. Adopting longterm infrastructure development strategies and cross-sector collaboration will definitely scale up equity in electrical safety.
Additionally, manufacturers need to acquire a customer lens to see their products. Will a product be safe if is used by X customer in Y situation? Historically, design and manufacturing have been done from the perspective of provider. For ensuring safety on ground, manufacturers need to have the perspective of consumer so that safer power continuity is achieved.
How do you think strategic approach such as value engineering can accelerate development in emerging economies?
Worldwide economic integration is possible with energy parity. Electricity is like universal energy currency and therefore electrical safety is important
to bring power parity. Value engineering enables us to provide necessary functions in product, application, and project through cost-efficient design, procurement, production and supply, at the lowest cost. It facilitates cost-inexpensive products without compromise on quality or durability, which is a key demand from emerging economies. At Himel, we have delivered cost-effectiveness by leveraging principles of value engineering in several projects.
We often focus on next—the development. But if you reflect on recent situations like pandemic or extreme climate. We need to focus on contingency and recovery as well. Value engineered electrical products can play a bigger role in how well and sooner the electrical infrastructure can adapt or spring back from a setback.
What do markets look like for a brand like Himel? Do you observe a potential uptick in demand?
I believe, 2023 can offer growth opportunities for electrical in both emerging and mature markets. For Himel, great impetus has been coming in from strategic importance of electrical safety. There is a wider consensus that transformation of power provisioning can’t go without highquality electrical products that will eventually improve operations applications, metering, customer-facing applications and control systems. So, yes. Demand of value engineered electrical products will increase.
What are your plans for Himel to expand presence in market?

Channelising fear in a constructive way: Tools to face difficult situations
Emer O'Donnell, Founder, TeenReconnect Ltd
Fear comes in many shapes and sizes. It is relative to every individual, so what might scare you may not be an issue for others. We are born with two innate fears, loud noises and falling. We all have the capacity for gathering more fears from 100s of possibilities as we journey through life, especially with our modern world triggers. More on this later. Despite what we imagine to be our truth in those moments of fear however remember 95% of the things we fear will happen to us never will.
Step 1: Understanding your fear response
Human survival has depended on our ability to react well to real-life threats e.g., a wild animal in the jungle. To protect yourself your senses, kick off a fear response in your brain. Then your stress
response is triggered. Chemicals like adrenaline and cortisol are released flooding your body so your heart races, muscles tense and breath quickens. Vital blood flow moves away from internal organs and is pushed outwards to support rapid movement if needed. This all boosts your strength and sharpens your senses for a take flight, hide or stay and fight reaction. The stress response is therefore encoded in us for survival. It can also drive us forward at times so switching it off totally is not wise.
In our modern world, our bodies can struggle to tell the difference between real-life dangers and day-to-day stressors. The fears we experience are often more perceived threats to our safety than lifethreatening ones. We can struggle with things like managing change, self-image, making decisions, multi-tasking, and handling pressure and setbacks.

29 CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
In our modern world, our bodies can struggle to tell the difference between real-life dangers and day-to-day stressors
There is also the difficulty of avoiding 24/7 media selling fear e.g., the economy, world disasters, and scary crimes which we are programmed to tune into. Next time you check your news feed note the number of stories with negative headlines rather than positive ones! Fear can show up repeatedly as stress, anxiety, a phobia or just holding back where we can stay stuck in a comfort zone that won’t serve us well in terms of our longer-term learning and development.
Step 2: Fear and body impact
What makes humans so unique is our brain’s capacity to think about problems repeatedly, reliving them over and over even though they are in the past. We are also excellent at storymaking about our future with doom-and-gloom predicted outcomes. If our brains are left to their
own devices 70% of our daily thoughts will be negatively repeated as if on a continuous loop. Our brains can’t tell the difference between an original fear event or our imagined reliving of this event. So, by our thoughts alone, we can turn on our stress responses even when the event has ended. We then react with a repeated stress response. Our bodies end up living in survival mode. They are not designed to be constantly reacting and switched on to this stress response mode. Indeed anxiety, usually a fear of the unknown can stay with you long after the perceived stress has disappeared and tends to last longer than a normal fight, hide or flight stress response.
Psychology has shown that some stress and anxiety can have a positive impact on performance but if it continues to rise performance will decline. It ultimately erodes both our mental and physical health and can be fatal especially when you

consider stress to be one of the main contributing factors to heart disease. At the start of the 20th century, only a few died of heart disease and now it is the leading cause of death for men and women. Stress also makes us more reliant on our instincts to just react to what is in front of us, which isn’t always wise when not facing a life-threatening event, especially with negative emotions triggered. We have less ability to think creatively about how to solve our problems.
Step 3: Benefits of managing fear.
You can create less stress, learn to release negative thoughts and emotions and build more positive ones, gain more well-being and energy, and develop better health and the ability to perform with greater clarity and creativity. Therefore, if we want to live life to the full it is essential to learn ways to thrive despite our fears.
Step 4: Key understanding
A calm mind is your superpower.
My grandfather once said, “It is not about the journey but the joy you can create for yourself and others on it that really matters”.
Creating positive emotions in your body by switching the focus of your thoughts to trigger these, is a powerful way to calm your mind. Thoughts drive feelings and feelings drive thoughts. If you’re thinking content and it is not kept in check, negative loops will hardwire in the brain to create an ongoing pattern of old unhelpful thoughts keeping you stuck in your past story. We can choose to tune into negative thoughts and accompanying feelings or focus on having more positive ones. Our human gift of imagination can let us create new stories, but it takes practice.
A ritual of finding three things at the start of each day, regardless of your circumstances, that
you are grateful for will activate areas of your brain connected with dopamine, the happiness hormone. It will kick off your brain’s focus as it will want more dopamine hits during the day and will be in search of more things to be grateful for. Positive emotions also have a higher vibrational frequency of energy than negative ones and support you to be more open to thinking creatively and developing wider possibilities to choose from. Meditation practices the science shows also support synchronising more helpful brain waves moving you from conscious thought to more relaxed and creative thought. It’s worth it.
Where your attention goes your energy flows
When looking at a stressful situation remove the labels of good and bad in the story you perceive. Reframe the experience and become neutral and curious instead. Stay present to get to the truth of what is going on. Ask yourself what your values are and the outcome you want e.g., if you want friendships that are trusting, caring and fun and you are getting the opposite then consider what is the next obvious behaviour needed to achieve what you want. Become more comfortable sitting with the tension of the unknown until you get there. Keep a clear focus on the end goal and an open mind on the how. Recognise if you are compensating for something that you feel is missing in you e.g., I am not worthy of having great friends. Always remember you are indeed unique and whole in every way and if you don’t believe it, you can just assume it to be true. Always question where you are putting your power too. Is it into what you love and want to create or are you running away from what you feel you can’t create?

Basic Principle of Creating in Business
Diana Monterrubio, Procurement Global Strategic Director, Teleperformance, Mexico
Iam not a writer; however, I know I can write. Good or bad? That will be up to you to decide. In most cultures, when a young adult turns eighteen, it is expected for them to choose a path, a career in life that hopefully will make their dreams come true, but What dreams? Have we started observing society from the capitalism point of view? Are our dreams for sell, or at some point did we start dreaming to be able to survive in this world? Did society start dreaming for us?
I wanted to be a writer, I wanted it will all my heart: I spent High School burying my face in books and the wonderful smell they get with years, like their only purpose is to collect a smell for the right reader to come along, books are patient. I also loved blank notebooks, to this day I still love the look of an empty page, I find it inviting every single time. I love writing in blank pages, even if I
only get to write my name because I have nothing more to write. For so long, I did not dare to write more than my name, but I was waiting for my story, for my words to come out like a waterfall, sometimes it happened, but when it did, I rarely liked what was written down, I thought that if I wanted to be a writer, I had to write a masterpiece. Most people will say that they had no support from their parents when they started diving into the arts, but that is not my case: My father would buy the most amazing books and was never shy about sharing with us, he did not find me young for any type or reading, I have always believed my dad finds in me an old soul, so I always had his trust. My mom was the one who loved it the most: She loved to read the poems that I wrote as a kid, she would even have me make photocopies for our extended family: I felt so validated: A kid with

I believe that we all create in our own way, we create our own lives, ideas, and spaces; even if it is a story in our heads, or a drawing while bored in class: We all have indeed created

something to say and people to want to read what she had to say, I was living the dream, I was eight years old and my dream had come true. After a taste for, I wanted to professionally write, that was my next dream, my big dream. However, when it came to choosing a career my parents feared that I could not make it and I would end up a starving artist: So after many talks with my parents, I told myself I would build a safety net: I would study business, I would work in an office, that was the new dream; The dream that was carefully incepted into my mind by a lifelong fear that I was not going to be good enough to write.
I believe that we all create in our own way, we create our own lives, ideas, and spaces; even if it is a story in our heads, or a drawing while bored in class: We all have indeed created. Which brings me to the basic principle of creating: Not everything that is created will be useful, but everything that is useful has been created by someone, so the question here is not so much how we create, but how we create something that will last, how will our leadership today influence business tomorrow? For me, it came as a shock when I found out that I was afraid to not be a good businessperson, too, It did not matter the career, turns out I was just afraid of failure. However, this fear, is the very proof that I can create, that we all can, if it was not, No one would not be afraid of rejection. Unfortunately for most of us, we live in a tough society, where creating is not always something that is understood or even worse, accepted. Therefore, we are told to create something safe, something that will be accepted and provide a good living for us. For the latter, my parents did not want me to be a writer, they were afraid and so was I, we just did not stop think that I would be afraid regardless of the path… I was afraid of how society would see me, of how society would read me. I was afraid that
CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
society wanted a businesswoman, not a writer. I thought society wanted numbers, not poems. And yet I was afraid of both.
This reflection takes me to my final words here: We are all afraid, aren’t we? If we, for one second look at Maquiavelo’s masterpiece, “The Prince” We will learn that it is much safer to be feared than to be loved, but what do we want? Do we need approval? Do we need acceptance? How can we be ourselves in a world that wants only to see us as efficient or not? My dear reader, I do not have an answer for you, but I do have this: Take a chance on yourself, try to write, (Or whatever it is that you feel you are). After a few years in business, I find that I actually liked it, I am still not sure if I am a writer, a businessperson or something else entirely, but I know what I am not: I am not a quitter, I have given life my best, I have created and even found a way to create in business. So the basic principle of creating, for me is very simple: Look at what surrounds you, and there, were you see shadow try to bring light, do not expect for the world to return the same: The
world might reply in criticism, but some people will find comfort in the light you bring them, like I recently read in some one else’s reflection, only when someone sees the value of the fruit and longs to taste its sweetness, will they take the effort to throw a stone. Creating is easy, we all do it, but standing by what you create, putting it out there, will not make people fear you, it might actually make you fear the opinions of those who surround you, however, whatever love you receive out of it, will be worth a lot. We do not need to fear creating, because what we create reflects who we are and we must embrace it, because only by creating new ways of business, will we find the humans behind the numbers. The basic principle of creating in business, at the end of the day, is believing that what you create will inspire others and maybe yourself on the way, and it is only by inspiring that our creations will endure.
I am not a writer, but I wanted to write this, for me, for you and for all out there afraid of their potential: be patient, like books, wait for your right audience to find you.

Are Your Employees Willing and Able to Contribute to Company Success?
Xi Ren Yang, Founder, Xel Consulting
This is what employee engagement is, which is critical for businesses to be successful.
When employees are engaged, they feel motivated, resulting in higher productivity and performance which leads to higher profitability of the company.
Yet, only 21% of employees globally are engaged at work, according to Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace: 2022 Report.
Acknowledging this big opportunity to engage employees, how can we drive employee engagement?
Pay employees more money? Give them free food and drinks?
If you are relying on compensation to engage employees, it is not effective as such motivation is not sustainable. Money will always not be enough.
Providing awesome benefits may not lead to employee engagement either.
There is a difference between employee satisfaction and employee engagement. The former usually covers the basic concerns and needs of the employees such as compensation and benefits which are extrinsic factors. Employee satisfaction creates the foundation for employee engagement. Employees must first be satisfied before they are engaged. It does not mean that they are engaged if they are satisfied. There could be exceptions to this with startups or certain companies where employees joining need not be satisfied with the basic factors currently but are very engaged to drive success and derive satisfaction at a later stage. This involves a shared and compelling vision and a roadmap to achieve that vision.

Employees must first be satisfied before they are engaged. It does not mean that they are engaged if they are satisfied
I would like to use the analogy of DNA to explain employee engagement. Just like human beings, organizations' DNA determine how employees behave. The organizational DNA is made up of three components - Culture, Environment and People. Coding the DNA make up effectively achieves the sweet spot –employee engagement.
Let’s look at the first component Culture. It is the glue that holds an organization together through the shared values, beliefs, and behaviours.
It defines organizations and determines how the organizations run, the way people work and how things get done. As Leaders, we create the culture, and we have to walk the talk.
Empathy, Empowerment and Enablement should be the three keys of corporate culture. Leading by fear – command and control, micro-managing and repercussion of failures disengages employees.
For employees to be engaged, we need to drive a people-first culture. We need to care, value them, and build empathy. Treat people as
38 CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
human beings and not as human resources. Only when people know how much we care, they will care what we know.
Often, I noticed due to the fast pace of work, dynamic changes, and pressures to deliver, managers tend to be too task-focused and lack the human connection. Their behaviours come across as treating employees as just tools to get the job done. Do your managers build relationships with their teams? How well do they know them? Do they show genuine care for their team members? Do they respect employees as individuals? Do they listen to them?
We cannot expect employees to be engaged if we do not start with ourselves to engage them.
Equipping managers with the soft skills to lead effectively is as critical as training people on technical skills. Frequently, we see people leave because of their managers.
Another important element in culture is trust. We should create an atmosphere where employees feel empowered and trusted to do what is best for the organization. There is a growing trend to promote intrapreneurship within organizations. When employees act like entrepreneurs within the company, they have higher ownership and drive. Organizations should be willing to take risks, give people the space to experiment and embrace failures.
In addition, promoting a Growth Mindset in employees help to drive intrapreneurship. When people believe that they can grow and develop their abilities over time, we are empowering a workforce who believes it can learn, and willing to, not only for themselves but for the company. This involves leading with “What do you need to achieve this?” instead of “Can you achieve this?” Or “Are you capable?”
Growth Mindset influences how people view themselves which will impact how they show up in their roles, whether they see themselves making a difference or adding value to the organization.
Developing a growth mindset culture is a requisite to people enablement, which leads to fulfilment and engagement.
Next, let’s talk about Environment.
The environment which includes the processes, systems, and tools that employees’ function in, is an important factor in influencing their performance and engagement.
Here, I would like to focus on employee experiences throughout employee lifecycle to engage employees, from onboarding to development, to retention and offboarding. What are your policies and practices surrounding these processes? How does your onboarding program help employees to transit into their role and the organization smoothly? How are you promoting employees’ development through the 70-20-10 (experience-exposureeducation) development principle? How is your organization promoting employees’ wellbeing? Does your organization have work flexibility, rewards and recognition programs? These programs help in employee retention.
I observed that companies tend to forget that offboarding remains an important piece in the employee lifecycle and that we should ensure employees leave us on a good note. How they exit from the company will have an impact on the remaining employees’ engagement level. Employees should always leave feeling that they are respected, whether voluntary resignation or involuntary separation due to restructuring.
39 CXO OUTLOOK April 2023
Let’s look at the last component, People. Help people to find the sense of purpose in their roles. How does their job fit into the bigger picture, contributing to the organization’s mission, goals, and strategies? Make employees feel that they are an essential part of the organization, no matter where they are in the hierarchy. Give them the opportunity to utilize their strengths in the work that they do.
For example, create a compelling company vision (or even product or service), one that makes a difference to people’s lives and employees feel that they are part of that vision and the journey to deliver that vision to people. This explains why some seasoned corporate employees are happy to leave their cushy jobs and join start-ups – a desire to be part of that incredible journey.
Help employees to see a future with the organization, one where they can grow with the company. This is about enabling them with the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in their current and future roles. This could be achieved through on-the-job experience, coaching, mentoring, and training. Organizations should have an individual development plan for their people to support them in their career aspirations.
It takes two to tango. Employees need to understand that they also have to play their part to be engaged. Communication is important here. What are your communication platforms for the company to communicate to employees and for employees to communicate to the company?
There you have it, the key to employee engagement. Our role as leaders is to maximize the performance of our people. We can achieve this only if we get their full engagement. For employees to be fully engaged, we need to engage their mind and heart. This will transform the workplace as their second home.

10 Recommendations On How To Negotiate Outsourcing IT Contracts
Lela Bekauri, General Counsel (Spain and Portugal), Atos
It is impossible to negotiate Outsourcing IT contracts without being familiar with the nature of the IT business and the portfolio of the Company. It is not an easy task for those who are not technical profile professionals such as Delivery or Solution experts, but it is key to understand what the contract is about and what to be negotiated.
There are the 10 key questions to answer for identifying the main legal risks and for finding the keys of their mitigation:
1. What is the type of the service?
It is important to understand whether the company commits (a) to deliver the results or (b) to provide some resources charging the fees depending on the time dedication on the Project (it is called
Time&Material, Technical Assistance, body shopping, etc). In case of this Time&Material Services, the provider does not commit the quality of the result to be obtained as it will not manage the project, despite its employees will implement it under the management of the customer. It means that the conditions such as penalty, Service Level Agreements, project milestones and some other obligations cannot be the provider 's responsibility.
2. What are the main assumptions which may impact on the provider´s costs?
It is important to understand what the key elements of the price estimation for the deal are. If the prices are estimated for maximum volume of incidents to be resolved, the offer shall include the assumption to clarify it and the provider's right to review the

Lela Bekauri is General Counsel of Atos for Spain & Portugal and member of the local Executive Committee of Atos (Iberia). During the years she has negotiated a wide range of Outsourcing IT contracts and assessed IT deals.
Lela has managed the legal assessment of the Global IT deals covering the different countries and including the high level of complexity. Her role as General Counsel is to ensure that the legal risks are properly identified for each opportunity and proper mitigation actions are on place. She provides support to the business team during pre-sales phase and during the contract implementation.

It is important to understand what the key elements of the price estimation for the deal are
prices if such volume varies. If the prices are estimated depending on the specific business volume, it shall be also clarified and mitigated, otherwise the provider may lose money if the business volume varies.
3. Will the provider incurre any investment or anticipated cost for the Offer implementation?
Should the provider need to incur any cost or invest for the offer implementation, it may have issues on cash flow and risk of recovering the incurred cost, if the contract terminates before the amortisation of such investment. Proper payment milestones and termination provisions may prevent this risk.
4. Will the provider use any of its preexisting development (HW Or SW) for the implementation of the Offer?
If the provider is going to use any of its preexisting developments (Hardware or Software, API, etc) for the implementation of the Offer, the provisions of the intellectual property rights and obligations shall be included in the Offer, clarifying the rights of each party on pre-existing and new developments.
5. Will the provider use any of the pre-existing development (HW Or SW) of the other providers for the implementation of the Offer?
If the answer is yes, it is important to ensure that whether customer accepts the conditions of such manufacturers (many times the manufacturers provide the EULA - end user agreements for the end customers) or the manufacturer accepts the end-customer´s conditions (which is possible to achieve only with the certain manufacturers).
April 2023
6. Are there any international elements?
It is important to understand if the services are going to be provided to the outside of the country of the provider, or the services are going to be from the outside of the country. In such a case, the provider shall assess the aspects related to tax, currency, details of the data treatment and data transfer, possible Compliance risks, and in general risks of delivery (depending on the nature of the deliverables).
7. Is there any access to the personal data?
There is no grey answer on this question. The team shall know if these services require the access to the personal data, including or not the data transfer. (If there are ways to avoid the access to the personal data, better to avoid) If the access to the personal data is confirmed, proper data assessment shall be managed and data protection agreement (and if applicable, Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers) shall be properly negotiated and signed.
8. Is there any company subcontracted?
If there is a plan to subcontract some services to the other company, the team shall assess what is the level of the dependency on the subcontractor and associated risks to negotiate proper provisions in the subcontract agreement. It shall ensure that the right to subcontracts is approved by the customer. In any case, if the subcontractor has access to the personal data, it shall have signed a data protection agreement. If the customer requests to flow down certain obligations to the subcontractors, the subcontracting agreements shall include such flow down terms.
9.
Are there any SLAs and penalties applicable?
Sometimes, there are only service level agreements (SLAs) agreed as a reference for the service quality. In other cases, the SLAs have associated the penalties (liquidated damages). It is important to ensure that the nature of the SLAs represent the expected level of services, and they are not too strict or sophisticated. In any case, the penalties shall be negotiated under the proper conditions, indicating the applicable economic limit. If the penalties are accepted by the provider, it means that such risk shall be contemplated within the P&L of the offer. The commitment on the SLAs and penalties do not make sense in case of T&M services as explained in the point 1 above, except the penalty is for the availability of the resources.
10. What are the phases & milestones of the contract?
The contract could not be negotiated without understanding the difference between the phases of Transition, Set Up, Migration, Transformation, Maintenance and/or Devolution. In the different contracts this terminology is used with different meanings. Case by case, it shall be clarified in the Offer how the cost of Transition and/or Devolution are regulated. In case there are synergies of Transformation or Migration, the obligations of each party shall be clearly agreed. The payment milestones and acceptance proceedings shall be properly agreed for the Set Up and Maintenance. Each of these points can have an impact on the P&L, cash flow and final project margin.

The Time-Saving Benefits of Deep Fake Videos
Yakup Özkardes-Cheung, Founder & CEO, Content AI Tools
What is Deep Fake Technology and How it Can Help You Save Time
Deep Fake technology is revolutionizing the way we create videos. It enables us to quickly and easily create realistic-looking videos that look like they were shot by a professional. With Deep Fake technology, you can save time and money by creating deep fake videos without the need for expensive equipment or editing software. This technology has become increasingly popular in recent years, with many businesses using it to create high-quality videos in a fraction of the time it would take to produce them traditionally. With deep fake technology, you can quickly and easily generate content that looks just as good as if it was created by a professional video editor.
Deep Fake the word itself is a combination of Deep Learning, which is a category of machine learning, and the word fake. Within the media,
deep fake has a negative connotation and is often times also refereed with misuse of these software tools. A more neutral name that is also used very often is called synthetic media, which makes clear that the content is produced in synthetic ways.
Deep Fakes as a Tool to Create Engaging Product Videos
Product video creators can use deep fakes to make their videos look more realistic and engaging. They can use deep fakes to add special effects, transitions, and other elements that will make the video stand out from the competition. By using deep fakes, product video makers can create highquality videos at a fraction of the cost compared to traditional methods. Deep Fakes also provide an easy way for product video creators to quickly generate content for their products without having to spend too much time or money on production

costs. With deep fakes, it’s possible to quickly generate engaging product videos with minimal effort and cost.
Things that you can use Deep Fake videos for:
● Product or service demos: Specially very good for physical products from your shop or even services that you offer for clients work very well. You can upload pictures and videos and run them in the background.
● Tutorial videos: Explainer type of videos where a person is speaking directly into the camera and speaking about a topic work very well with deep fake tools.
● Presentations: If you have standard presentations that you already gave a couple of times, than you can use your slides and upload them on deep fake tools and let the avatar explain the rest.
The limitations of Deep Fake:
● Live Interaction is not possible through Deep Fake. If you create Live Broadcasts on Facebook or LinkedIn, you should do this yourself in front of the camera. An AI can’t interact with your community and answer questions that are coming from the audience.
● Creative Storytelling: If you expect an emotional video for a video blogger on YouTube, then you will be disappointed. This is still something that we need video editors for who work more intense on videos.
Time-Saving Tips for Creating Tutorial Videos Using Deep Fakes
Creating tutorial videos is a great way to share knowledge and help others learn. However, it can be time-consuming and tedious. Fortunately, with
the help of deep fakes, creating tutorial videos has become much easier and faster. Deep fakes are artificial intelligence (AI) technology that can be used to create realistic-looking video tutorials in no time at all. In this article, we'll discuss some tips for creating tutorial videos using deep fakes that will save you time and effort!
How to Get Started with Creating Deep Fake Videos?
If you're interested in creating your own deepfake video, there are plenty of tools available online that can help you get started. Colossyan is one such tool that allows users to generate 5 minutes of video material for free. I tested several deep fake tools so far and had the best quality so far with Colossyan.
You can also find other tools online that allow you to create deepfake videos without any cost or with a small fee. These tools make it easy for anyone to get started with creating their own deepfakes. So, if you're looking for an interesting way to express yourself creatively, then why not give it a try?
More important than the tool is the own mindset
The mindset of the user is more important than the tool they are using. Tools are only as effective as the user's ability to use them correctly and efficiently. Having a positive attitude, an open mind, and an eagerness to learn are all essential components to making the most of these deep fake tools. So, therefore, always start with your employees and train them to use these tools! Combining the human intelligence with Artificial Intelligence is the key to the most impactful team in this century!
