HELPING LEADERS BRING WORK TO LIFE BY BRINGING LIFE TO WORK

Dr. Tracy Brower is a PhD sociologist studying happiness, work-life fulfillment and the future of work. She is the author of The Secrets to Happiness at Work and Bring Work to Life. She is the vice president of workplace insights with Steelcase and a senior contributor to Forbes and Fast Company. She is on the advisory board for Kids Food Basket, the Design Museum Everywhere and the Center for Leadership at Hope College. Recently, in an exclusive interview with CXO Outlook Magazine, Dr. Brower shared her professional trajectory, insights on the future of work, personal sources of inspiration, her productivity tip, favorite quote, future plans, words of wisdom, and much more. The following excerpts are taken from the interview.

Hi Dr. Brower. Please tell us about your background and areas of expertise.

I focus on happiness, work-life fulfillment and the future of work. I research, write and speak about critical topics changing the landscape of work and life. My PhD is in the sociology of work, and my Master of Management is in organizational culture and organizational dynamics.

What do you love the most about your current role?

I love the opportunity to be constantly learning, researching, writing and speaking—gaining insights, testing them and building relationships for mutual discovery.

What are the three major trends do you foresee in your industry in the next 12 months?

The talent shortage will continue to be acute for many years to come, and AI and tech are coming on quickly as well. Global conditions are also increasing pressure—as the world is volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous. These will necessitate intentional approaches to work experience, workplace and community— and they will drive priorities for mental health, wellbeing and resilience. All of this will reshape the landscape of work (and life) significantly.

Working in a historically male-dominated industry, what has been your journey breaking down barriers and stepping into leadership roles?

I’ve always concentrated on doing the best work I can, building skills constantly and creating trusting relationships with others. I’ve also taken the initiative to embrace new opportunities,

I love the opportunity to be constantly learning, researching, writing and speaking— gaining insights, testing them and building relationships for mutual discovery

even when those represented some (smart) risktaking. I’ve spoken up, owned my opinion—and my mistakes—and sought to demonstrate both confidence and humility in any situation. These have been critical for my journey in the field.

If you could have a one-hour meeting with someone famous who is alive or dead, who would it be and why?

I can’t choose just one: I would love to spend an hour with Warren Buffett to learn about leadership; Peter Attia, Benjamin Bikman and Robert Lufkin to learn about health; Rebecca Solnit to learn about community; Annie Jacobsen to learn about global issues and threats and Jane McGonigal to learn about future scenarios.

Is there a particular person you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are?

There are so many people who I am grateful for. My first boss was especially empowering and supportive, and he especially inspired my interests in organizational culture as a nexus for community, belonging, humanity and possibility.

How do you keep your mind healthy and stay resilient? And how do you motivate your team?

I am always exploring new thinking and new perspectives through research and reading—this keeps me informed, inspired and curious. And I share my passions with others, learning from them and creating empowering relationships.

What’s a productivity tip you swear by?

I watch very little television/shows. In addition, I listen to books regularly—while I’m driving, doing chores around the house and the like. I also walk regularly which keeps me energized as well.

What is your favorite quote?

I am always exploring new thinking and new perspectives through research and reading— this keeps me informed, inspired and curious

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.” By Robert Brault

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Continuing my roles with my family, and also continuing to research, write and speak.

What advice would you give to anyone starting out on their career in your industry?

Say yes more than you say no. Raise your hand and take initiative. Be curious, learn all you can, and connect with others.

MOST INNOVATIVE HEALTHCARE LEADER TO WATCH IN 2024

Agathi Kanellou

MANAGING DIRECTOR, MEDICAL CLAIMS INTERNATIONAL (MCI)

REVOLUTIONIZING HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT WITH A BLEND OF INNOVATION AND EXCELLENCE

Agathi Kanellou's journey to becoming the Managing Director of Medical Claims International (MCI) began in an unexpected place: the bustling tourism industry. It was here that she first honed her skills in management and customer service. These early experiences laid a solid foundation for what would become a remarkable career in healthcare management.

A decade ago, Agathi made a pivotal career shift by joining MCI as Operations Manager. Reflecting on this transition, she says, "I sought to apply my expertise in a field where I could have a significant impact on people's lives." At MCI, her dedication and talent quickly became evident. She focused on optimizing processes and ensuring

high-quality service delivery, which set the stage for her eventual rise to Managing Director.

Agathi was drawn to MCI by its mission to improve healthcare management and its innovative approach to cost containment and assistance management. "Joining Medical Claims International was a pivotal moment in my career," she recalls, "combining my passion for management with a dedication to enhancing healthcare services."

Under her leadership, MCI has seen remarkable growth and innovation. Agathi has been instrumental in expanding the company's network and developing new business opportunities, always emphasizing ethical practices, social responsibility, and

environmental sustainability. Her vision for MCI is ambitious: not only to be a global leader in healthcare management but also to set new industry standards through advanced technology and a client-centric approach.

Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Change

One of the biggest challenges Agathi has faced is navigating the rapidly changing landscape of healthcare management, particularly during times of global uncertainty. She has met these challenges head-on by fostering a culture of adaptability and continuous improvement within her team. “Staying connected with

industry trends, investing in technology, and maintaining open communication with our stakeholders were crucial in addressing these challenges effectively,” she notes.

Agathi's multilingual skills—she is fluent in English, Greek, and Spanish—enhance her ability to communicate effectively in diverse international contexts. Her passion for travel has allowed her to build a robust professional network and gain insights into various cultures, further enriching her leadership style.

Her commitment to excellence is evident in the numerous accolades MCI has received under her leadership, including the Best Assistance Company award at the ITIJ Awards

in November 2023. Agathi’s strategic vision and dedication to continuous improvement ensure that MCI remains at the forefront of healthcare management, delivering safe, reliable, and highquality services worldwide.

"My vision for MCI is to become a global leader in healthcare management," Agathi shares. She aims for MCI to be distinguished not only by its innovative solutions and commitment to excellence but also by its dedication to social responsibility and ethical practices. This vision involves expanding the company's network and developing new business opportunities in a manner that prioritizes sustainability and community well-being.

By leveraging technology to create more efficient and eco-friendly processes and maintaining a patient-centric approach rooted in integrity and compassion, Agathi strives to set new industry standards that reflect MCI's values of social and environmental responsibility.

As a premier cost control company with a significant presence in the Mediterranean region and Spanish-speaking countries, MCI delivers exceptional results in cost reduction. The company’s expertise and extensive network enable it to optimize expenses without compromising the quality of care, ensuring that clients receive the best possible service.

Agathi's vision for MCI is ambitious: not only to be a global leader in healthcare management but also to set new industry standards through advanced technology and a client-centric approach

Achieving Excellence in Cost Containment, Assistance Management, and Administration

The foundation of MCI is built on a strong commitment to three core areas: Cost Containment, Assistance Management, and Administration. This commitment is deeply embedded in every aspect of the company’s operations. On a daily basis, this involves conducting thorough case reviews, effectively managing resources, and ensuring clients receive the best possible service. In the long run, this approach leads to sustainable growth, improved client satisfaction, and a strong reputation in the industry. "We are committed to delivering value and maintaining high standards in everything we do," says Agathi.

MCI’s dedication to excellence is underscored by several key certifications and accreditations. These include ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems, ISO 14001 for Environmental Management Systems, ISO 27001 for Information Security, and ISO 37301 for Compliance Management. These certifications are crucial as they validate MCI's commitment to maintaining

high standards, continuous improvement, and ethical practices across all facets of its operations. They provide assurance to clients that MCI adheres to globally recognized best practices. This dedication has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Best Assistance Company award at the ITIJ Awards in November 2023 and the Best Cost Containment Company award since the ITIJ Awards in 2007.

Ensuring continuous adherence to ISO’s stringent requirements involves a combination of rigorous internal processes and regular

external audits. Internally, MCI has established robust quality management systems integrated into daily operations. These systems include thorough documentation, training programs, and regular performance reviews to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement. Externally, MCI engages in periodic audits conducted by accredited certification bodies to validate adherence to ISO standards. These audits provide independent verification of compliance and help identify any gaps or areas for enhancement. Additionally, MCI maintains

open communication channels with stakeholders and encourages feedback to ensure processes remain aligned with ISO requirements and industry best practices.

Pioneering Excellence in Cost Control and Transparency

MCI stands out for its comprehensive cost control services, ensuring that patients incur no

inadequate charges relative to their pathology. The company adopts a thorough approach to cost management through meticulous case reviews. These reviews involve detailed assessments to identify areas where costs can be streamlined without compromising the quality of care. "This approach directly benefits patients by ensuring they receive the most efficient and effective treatment possible," Agathi explains,

MCI stands out for its comprehensive cost control services, ensuring that patients incur no inadequate charges relative to their pathology

"thereby minimizing unnecessary expenses while maintaining high standards of care."

To ensure equitable charges aligned with each patient's pathology, MCI implements a transparent and standardized billing process. Charges are carefully evaluated based on the specific requirements and pathology of each patient, considering factors such as case complexity, necessary procedures, and treatment outcomes. Additionally, MCI regularly assesses and refines its billing procedures to adhere to industry standards and regulations, thereby upholding fairness and transparency for all patients.

MCI is also known for pioneering innovative initiatives that set new benchmarks in the industry. One of the most impactful initiatives has been the development of a comprehensive digital platform that streamlines case management and improves

communication with clients. This innovation has significantly enhanced efficiency and transparency. Moreover, MCI's proactive approach to cost containment through advanced data analytics has substantially reduced expenses for clients without compromising the quality of care.

Beyond financial and operational improvements, MCI is deeply committed to environmental sustainability, social justice, and respecting the diverse cultures, ethnicities, and languages it serves globally. "Our initiatives reflect our dedication to creating a more equitable and inclusive healthcare environment while minimizing our ecological footprint," Agathi emphasizes. These efforts not only improve the operational and financial aspects of MCI but also ensure that the company remains a leader in promoting ethical and sustainable practices in healthcare management.

Fostering Excellence and Innovation

At MCI, excellence is ensured through rigorous training programs, continuous quality assessments, and a strong emphasis on client feedback. The team at MCI is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service. "By fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and social responsibility, we consistently meet and exceed our clients' expectations," says Agathi, "while promoting a more inclusive and sustainable healthcare environment."

The culture at MCI is collaborative, innovative, and client-focused. This culture is cultivated by encouraging open communication, supporting professional development, and recognizing the contributions of team members. "Our commitment to diversity and inclusion also plays a key role in fostering a positive and dynamic workplace environment," Agathi adds.

Given MCI's international client base, proficient translators are crucial to its operations. They ensure clear communication and understanding across different languages and cultures. One significant challenge is finding translators with specialized knowledge in medical terminology. MCI addresses this by investing in ongoing training and leveraging technology to support its translators. This ensures that the company can maintain high standards of communication and service quality, even across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts. By continuously investing in its people and processes, MCI not only maintains its high standards but also adapts to the evolving needs of its clients and the healthcare industry at large. This commitment to innovation and excellence positions MCI as a leader in healthcare management, always ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Encouraged by positive client feedback, MCI is exploring opportunities to replicate its successful model in new destinations

Charting the Future: Expansion and Innovation

MCI is poised for growth with strategic plans to expand into new markets and enhance its service offerings. Encouraged by positive client feedback, MCI is exploring opportunities to replicate its successful model in new destinations. This strategy involves thorough market research and partnership development to ensure a successful entry. "We are continuously evaluating ways to introduce new services and leverage emerging technologies to meet evolving client needs," says Agathi, "and to maintain our position as a global leader in our sector."

Staying ahead of industry trends is a priority for MCI. The company achieves this

through continuous research, attending global conferences, and maintaining strong relationships with industry experts. Investing in technology and innovation is also key to MCI’s strategy. "By staying informed and adaptable, we ensure that MCI remains at the forefront of healthcare management," Agathi emphasizes.

MCI's forward-thinking approach and commitment to excellence ensure that it is well-prepared to meet the challenges of an ever-changing industry. Through strategic expansion and innovation, MCI aims to continue delivering exceptional service and maintaining its leadership in the global healthcare management sector.

Championing Access & Diversity Across the Travel Industry & Advocating for Experiential Education

Hi Eliza. Please brief us about your background and areas of expertise.

My name is Eliza Pesuit and I am the founding Executive Director of Global Glimpse, an innovative nonprofit working at the intersection of travel and education. We partner with diverse high schools and youth serving organizations across the United States to make transformative travel experiences accessible to young people from all backgrounds.

Our programs build empathy, agency and global perspective, equipping young people with skills to succeed in college and careers and drive change in their communities.

I was born and raised in rural Western Massachusetts. The daughter of a Serbian Orthodox father from steel country Ohio and a Russian Jewish mother from Boston, I became comfortable with cultural differences early on. My childhood was

Eliza Pesuit is the founding executive director of Global Glimpse, a nonprofit that makes transformative travel, leadership, and global learning opportunities accessible to students from low income and underrepresented backgrounds. Under her leadership the organization has grown tenfold and served over 8,000 students. Eliza is a visionary leader who navigates challenges with grace and places relationships at the center of her work. She has developed partnerships with leading brands including United Airlines, Expedia, Marriott, Away, and Snap Inc. This year she was named one of the Top Women in Travel and Hospitality and a Nonprofit Leader Who Will Impact the World.

Recently, in an exclusive interview with CXO Outlook Magazine, Eliza shared her professional trajectory, what sets Global Glimpse apart from other market competitors, the secret sauce behind her success, significant career milestones, her favorite quote, future plans, pearls of wisdom, and much more. The following excerpts are taken from the interview.

Our programs build empathy, agency and global perspective, equipping young people with skills to succeed in college and careers and drive change in their communities

fraught with conflict, but it never lacked love and it is that duality that guides my life’s work to bridge divides.

What was the inspiration behind establishing Global Glimpse? What sets it apart from other market competitors?

Traveling on my own in my late teens and twenties completely shifted the way that I saw the world and ignited a passion for equity. I believe that

life changing experiences change lives, and every young person should have access to the transformative power of travel.

We launched Global Glimpse programs in 2009 and under my leadership the organization has grown to become an industry leader and the only youth travel organization focused on equity and access. I am a doer and a creator, and I’ve been told that my superpowers are authentic connections and seeing gaps as opportunities.

We

launched Global Glimpse programs in 2009 and

under my leadership the organization has grown to become an industry leader and the only youth travel organization focused on equity and access

I am consistently humbled by those surrounding me, and I do the hard work to be better. I welcome discomfort as I grow the most when I am in community with people whose lives, experiences, and perspectives are different from my own. I am especially aware of this at this stage of my life as I think about the world, I am building for my 17-year-old stepson and 2-year-old daughter.

You were recently featured on the Causeartist list of 30 Nonprofit Leaders Who Will Impact the World in 2024 among other recognitions. Our readers would love to know the secret sauce behind your success.

My secret sauce is integrity, resilience, and humility. I am a doer, a creator, and a grower. I believe in human centered leadership, and I invest in potential. My team says my superpowers are connecting authentically with people from all walks of life and seeing things that others might

miss. I love my work and I lead and learn with passion, perspective, and joy.

What are the three major trends you foresee in your industry in the next 12 months?

1. Greater interest in and commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion across the travel industry.

2. A desire to create more tech free spaces and travel experiences that help young people to be present, connect, and reflect.

3. Greater interest in cultural experiences that are unique and support local communities.

What has been your career highlight so far? Why do you love what you do?

I have had a number of career highlights so far, but a few stand out! In 2018 Global Glimpse became a global partner with United Airlines. Last year I was the first nonprofit leader to ever attend Expedia’s EXPLORE partner conference

and Global Glimpse was awarded a $250,000 grant from the newly launched Made to Travel Fund and then this year when I was named one of the 2024 Top Woman Leading Travel & Hospitality, and I am the first nonprofit leader to ever win this award!

I love challenges and I love working with brilliant people to overcome seemingly impossible challenges. I love every part of the way that I do from supporting young people to realize their potential to guiding families and educators through the experience, inspiring and leading a team, and collaborating with external funders and partners. I love finding common ground and aligning diverse stakeholders to create shared impact.

And conversely, what has been your biggest learning curve or difficulty to overcome?

Navigating Global Glimpse through the pandemic was incredibly challenging for me

as a leader and a human. Our work exists at the intersection of travel and education, and both were decimated through the pandemic. In order for the organization to survive I had to make very difficult decisions while simultaneously navigating my father’s cancer diagnosis and ultimately his passing. I am a very resilient, joyful person, but through that time I often felt hopeless. I think going through tremendous struggle and loss in my own life has made me a stronger person and a stronger leader.

If you could have a one-hour meeting with someone famous who is alive, who would it be and why?

Brian Chesky, CEO and founder of Airbnb. Brian and his cofounders launched Airbnb right around the same time that we launched Global Glimpse. We were both living in San Francisco at the time, and I’ve followed his journey and the evolution of his leadership over the past 15 years.

I don’t really resonate with the way work-life balance or self-care is marketed; rather, I like to think about joyful synergy between my work and my life

I love the Airbnb model because it makes sense from both a human perspective and a business perspective and yet there are still so many challenges to navigate. I’ve always dreamed of building a partnership with Airbnb, but at this stage I think actually the more powerful alliance would be between Brian and I given the journeys we both have walked and our shared belief in the power of travel to transform. I’d love to sit down with him for an hour and break bread!

How do you keep your mind healthy and stay resilient? And how do you motivate your team?

This last chapter in my leadership journey has brought a different kind of struggle that I could not muscle through. A struggle beyond the scope of daily routines and coping tools. Through this time, I’ve had to not only face my failures and my weaknesses but share them with everyone in my world.

And in that vulnerability, I’ve found strength, gratitude, a sense of heart-centered wellbeing that feels so much deeper and more profound. When I think about wellbeing now, I think about riding the waves instead of standing tall in the storm. I think about trust, authenticity, vulnerability, sharing what it means to be human.

I don’t really resonate with the way work-life balance or self-care is marketed; rather, I like to think about joyful synergy between my work and my life. Authenticity has made me successful. Each part of my life brings me great pride and great joy, and it is the sum of those parts and their ability to coexist joyfully that makes me the best version of myself. Sometimes I have to lean in more in one area or another, and I try to build up the bank of goodwill in each so that there is space for me to move and breathe.

I am excited to work in partnership with global brands to create learning opportunities for young people that build empathy, agency and perspective

What is your favorite quote?

“To whom much is given, much is expected.”

Tell us about your future plans. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I will continue to be a leader in travel equity championing access and diversity across the travel industry and advocating for experiential education. I am excited to work in partnership with global brands to create learning opportunities for young people that build empathy, agency and perspective. I look forward to leading our program expansion in the US and outside of Latin America.

I am also looking forward to using my experience and the lessons I’ve learned to mentor and support other leaders across the non-profit and social impact sectors.

What advice would you give to anyone starting out on their career in your industry?

This advice is not specific to travel or education, it is universal. Seek mentors that you admire and proactively work to build long term relationships. I have been blessed to find a few game changing mentors over the course of my career and I believe that there is truly nothing more valuable.

Is It Time for a Revolution in Green Investing?

Nobody needs reminding of the challenges facing the planet and all of us who live here. Every day there are shocking reminders that we need to act and act fast!

Is there more that businesses and enterprises could be doing? Or possibly there are changes central and local governments could make to nudge the whole entrepreneurial ecosystem to a more sustainable focus.

In my work, helping startups and scale-ups raising equity investment, I have noticed a step change in the last few years, in innovation in the planet-positive space. From renewable energy and recycling - a couple of very obvious sectors needing drastic changes, to logistics and transport, food & drink - some more obvious culprits - through to a focus on developing cleaner, greener websites for any offering.

There is no question that small businesses, the innovators, are driving change - but they need help and I suggest that this could come from both local and national governments in what could be seen as radical but at the same time very simple changes.

As individuals and as groups, investors are moving towards ‘ESG’ investing - which is to be applauded and in particular the early adopters. But what measures could be taken to move the majority of investors to look at sustainable opportunities first and prioritise planet-positive businesses in their portfolios?

With the undoubted success in the UK of the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) to channel investment to SMEs and in the case of SEIS, very early stage, innovative businesses.

Finlay Kerr is the Founder of Raising Expert - helping early-stage businesses raise funding to grow their businesses in a sustainable way. He founded his first business in the travel trade in 1996, it has evolved over time but it still exists today. He spent 7 years in Local Government working in Economic Development where he developed a number of innovative programmes to support SMEs. This work has led him to develop his expertise in the equity investment space where he advises, consults, and speaks on the topic.

As individuals and as groups, investors are moving towards ‘ESG’ investing - which is to be applauded and in particular the early adopters

I suggest this incentive model could be applied to change investor behaviour to produce the same massive changes in investment activity.

‘The Green SEIS’

This could work in tandem with the existing system. Rather than simply giving an additional tax break for investors some smarter thinking is needed to create more holistic impacts and benefits across communities and of course to benefit the hard-working and innovative founders.

Great work is being done at centers such as GreenFin - Green SME finance research within CEEDR (Centre for Enterprise, Environment and Development Research) at Middlesex University, London. Professor Robyn Owen and Dr Amy Burnett are undertaking some fascinating work in this space. (See Owen et al., 2023)

To this end, Raising Expert is partnering with Middlesex University on an event and training programme to bring together planetpositive investors and entrepreneurs. Through this activity, we hope to further their research and refine their SME toolkit as well as introduce founders to suitable investors.

National Scheme - local impact

I believe there is an opportunity for Local Authorities to become influential actors in this space with a targeted equity investment in private businesses - ‘LA Investment’. There is a very successful model in the United Kingdom with the British Business Bank and Scottish National Investment Bank and the associated co-investment scheme investing in this way. It could be argued that as such they have this covered and by including a local element this could become confusing or cause displacement of the national activity.

However, by doing this they could support local policy, and target significant industry sectors

Using this activity to nurture or create ‘Local areas of excellence’ - different renewable energy production such as hydro or tide, energy storage, or agri-tech.

They should be able to leverage other instruments at their disposal such as grants and loans, rates, and owned and managed property alongside the equity investment that other investors do not have the ability to do. This activity can create the desired direct or indirect outcomes in the local economy in terms of employment, regeneration, social mobility and inclusion, etc.

There are clear pitfalls in a scheme like this as there is understandably high risk in investing in early-stage innovative businesses. High-risk and local governments are not usually a good combination so it will only work for the most

innovative and forward-thinking authorities. Of course, the flip side of the risk is reward and a well-managed evergreen fund should deliver net financial results over the medium term. Not wanting to hide from the scrutiny this will invite but local authorities can look to the other benefits this will bring to the local economy and society before, as well, or instead of financial returns. There are of course other challenges for local government beyond this reputational and financial risk such as fairness and inclusion and avoiding displacement of competition to overcome.

Without the in-house expertise it will be a challenge for Local Authorities. However, I would urge them to take the even braver step to invest before local angel investors to stimulate the investment elevator, after grants and soft loans but prior to co-investment. There

High-risk and local governments are not usually a good combination so it will only work for the most innovative and forwardthinking authorities
Given time - any local investment fund should grow and become evergreen but the financial, social, and economic benefits would be local rather than a large financial centre

is actually a gap in the elevator - around the grant stage, as many innovative companies either hesitate to apply for innovation grants or get caught in the ‘cash-flow-trap’, being unable to fund the project in the short term before retrospective grant payment.

Matching grant funding against grant funding has always been seen as a no-no and almost always prohibited. Is there space for a hybrid offering? - ‘Convertible Green Grant’ where founders have the choice to pay back the investment to the grant/investment fund (at an agreed rate) or convert to equity. At this point, a clever instrument could be used to unlock innovation grants.

Equity investment offers the opportunity to develop a stronger relationship with local businesses with clear benefits. This partnership approach would bring local government closer to the issues facing businesses but also let business owners and leaders engage with local government representatives in an entirely new way.

Given time - any local investment fund should grow and become evergreen but the financial, social, and economic benefits would be local rather than a large financial centre. This is more significant in areas away from these key hubs but plays to the regional support agenda and ‘levelling up’ policies

The two main ideas I have set out - a national incentive for green investment‘GSEIS’ and hyper-local equity investment from local government can and should be connected. GSEIS could create Green Tokens - beyond the tax breaks- valid only within the LA area of the business, redeemable by certified green suppliers. GreenFin has done extensive work researching these concepts and has more developed proposals than I have outlined in this article.

At the same time, LA Investment could also attract GSEIS investors to invest alongside them providing the best of both worlds - public and private - local and national.

Making a Tangible Impact in the Luxury Sustainability Space

Hi Corey. Please tell us about your background and areas of expertise. I began my career as a senior advertising executive who spent two decades working for big companies like Warner Bros, Ellen, Playboy, and Extra.

Balancing marriage, career, motherhood, and life was not easy for me. I craved a place to get real with other women facing similar challenges in life, someplace I could gain perspective and guidance on a shared experience and hopefully find community in the process. I had reported to a board of directors professionally and had a

vast community of women around me, but that level of support was missing in my personal life. I wanted experienced, unbiased advisors who were willing to provide honest counsel, mentorship, and wisdom about life. I created Light House, a diverse and global community of women who are having personal conversations that are transparent, refreshing, and real, with the vision of creating a “Board of Directors for your personal life.” Light House creates a confidential and judgment-free space for engaging dialogue that not only allows women to hear and learn from others, but also to renew

Ms. Spiegel is a sought-after moderator on matters such as empowerment, pro-aging, entrepreneurship, personal growth, and overall health and wellness. Recently, in an exclusive interview with CXO Outlook Magazine, Corey shared her professional trajectory, the inspiration behind establishing Light House, the secret sauce behind her successful career, future plans, pearls of wisdom, and much more. The following excerpts are taken from the interview.

their own sense of appreciation, empowerment, and passion for life.

In your recent post, you mentioned that taking time for oneself isn't just a luxury—it's a necessity. You also shared that especially for women striving for empowerment and success in every aspect of their lives, finding moments to pause and rejuvenate is crucial. For someone who is passionate in the luxury sustainability space, can you please shed light on this topic and how a wellness retreat isn't just a break from the daily grind, rather it's an investment in our well-being, offering benefits that ripple through every area of our lives? Absolutely, taking time for oneself, especially in the pursuit of empowerment and success, is vital. In the luxury sustainability space, where the emphasis is on both opulence and conscientious living, this becomes even more poignant. Wellness retreats in this context serve as more than just a respite from the daily hustle; they are strategic investments in our holistic well-being. Luxury sustainability isn't just about what we consume externally but also internally. Wellness retreats often focus on mindful eating, encouraging participants to savor nutritious, locally sourced, and sustainable cuisine. This practice extends beyond the retreat, influencing our everyday dietary choices, promoting better health, and reducing our environmental footprint. Many wellness retreats are situated in pristine natural settings, providing a much-needed escape from urban chaos. Spending time in nature has been linked to reduced stress levels, improved mood, and enhanced creativity.

Feeling supported and understood is essential for women striving for empowerment and success in male-dominated industries

These benefits persist long after the retreat ends, enabling individuals to approach their work and personal lives with renewed vigor and clarity. Luxury sustainability encompasses not only environmental stewardship but also the well-being of individuals and communities. Wellness retreats often offer a diverse range of holistic practices, such as yoga, meditation, spa treatments, and mindfulness workshops. These experiences foster self-awareness, emotional resilience, and inner peace, empowering individuals to navigate life's challenges with grace and authenticity. Wellness retreats also provide opportunities to connect with likeminded individuals who share a passion for sustainability and personal growth. These connections can lead to lasting friendships, professional collaborations, and a sense of belonging in a supportive community.

Feeling supported and understood is essential for women striving for empowerment and success in male-dominated industries. The benefits of a wellness retreat extend far beyond the duration of the experience. By prioritizing self-care and holistic well-being, individuals cultivate habits that sustain them in the long run. They become more resilient to burnout, more effective leaders, and better equipped to balance their personal and professional lives. This ripple effect positively impacts not only the individual but also their families, workplaces, and broader communities. In essence, a wellness retreat in the luxury sustainability space is not just a momentary escape; it's an investment in our physical, mental, and spiritual health, with dividends that enrich every facet of our lives. It aligns perfectly with the ethos of luxury sustainability, which seeks to harmonize opulence with ethical responsibility and personal fulfillment.

Working in a historically maledominated industry, what has been your journey breaking down barriers and stepping into leadership roles?

Breaking down barriers in male-dominated industries requires a combination of confidence, authenticity, communities of support, advocacy, continuous learning, resilience, and persistence. Women can drive meaningful change and create more inclusive and equitable workplaces by actively challenging the status quo and supporting one another. Confidence is critical too. Building confidence often involves recognizing and embracing your strengths, seeking out mentors or role models, and continually challenging yourself to grow and learn. Authenticity is a powerful tool for breaking down barriers as well. Being true to oneself and one's values can help build trust and respect among peers and superiors. It's essential to embrace your unique perspective and contributions rather than trying to conform to traditional expectations. As women break down barriers and step into leadership roles, they pave the way for future generations of women in the industry. Leading by example and serving as mentors and sponsors can help empower other women to pursue leadership positions. Breaking down barriers in a maledominated industry is not always easy and may involve facing setbacks and challenges along the way. Developing resilience and perseverance are crucial for navigating obstacles and continuing to strive for success.

How

do you unplug and step away from work?

Unplugging and stepping away from work is not only beneficial but it also improves

your productivity and effectiveness when you return. It's not easy to do and is most certainly something that I have to practice on a daily basis. For me, it starts by establishing clear boundaries between work and personal time. This helps me cultivate a healthier relationship with my work and enables me to enjoy a more balanced and fulfilling life. I also continue to develop a wind-down routine at the end of the workday to signal to my brain that it's time to transition out of work mode. I do incorporate mindfulness practices into my day to help cultivate awareness and presence. Mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation help me stay grounded and present in the moment.

What is the one lesson learnt that’s unique to being a woman leader?

One unique lesson that female business leaders often learn is the importance of being assertive yet compassionate. This involves balancing assertiveness with warmth which can be a delicate art for women in leadership. Research has shown that women are often penalized for exhibiting assertive behavior that is perceived as "aggressive" or "bossy." Female leaders have to learn to navigate this by finding ways to assert themselves confidently while also cultivating relationships and demonstrating empathy. This is why our most popular series for female leaders is so valuable. It's so important to build a strong support network of other women in similar roles or industries. These networks provide a safe space for sharing experiences, insights, and strategies for navigating challenges unique to women in leadership. Balancing professional and personal responsibilities can be particularly challenging

for women in leadership positions, especially those who also have caregiving responsibilities at home. We have to learn to prioritize self-care, set boundaries, and delegate effectively to manage our work-life integration successfully.

You have been a recipient of prestigious awards and accolades over the years including being recently named as one of the Top 50 Female Leaders in Los Angeles and also have been featured in The Wall Street Journal; The Miami Herald; NBC News; and Luxury Travel Magazine. What is the secret sauce behind your successful career?

The biggest secret to growth is that there are no secrets. Be patient with yourself. It's not about changing overnight. It's about putting in a little effort each day and remembering that the more your practice, the easier the changes come.

Which one of your accomplishments makes you the proudest to date?

When you're doing what you love, you're often aligning your actions with your core values and passions. This is the case for me. My work brings me a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction, knowing that I'm living authentically and in accordance with what truly matters to me. Doing what I love has a positive impact not only on myself but also on those around me. It's so inspiring when I witness others pursuing their passions, speaking their truth, or creating something that has meaning and impact for my community. Doing what you love is an accomplishment because it allows you to live authentically, find purpose and meaning, experience personal growth, and leave a lasting legacy. It's about living life on your own terms and finding fulfillment in the pursuit of your passions.

Breaking down barriers in a maledominated industry is not always easy and may involve facing setbacks and challenges along the way

What is your mantra behind striking a work-life balance?

I prefer to strive for harmony rather than perfect balance. Achieving equilibrium between work and personal life is an ongoing process that typically ebbs and flows depending on circumstances. Cultivating harmony by integrating work and personal responsibilities that feel balanced is always going to be challenging. This may involve flexibly adjusting your priorities, schedules, and activities to accommodate changing needs and circumstances. It's never going to be perfect.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I hope that I will always be evolving and learning no matter what I do. I allow myself the room to

One unique lesson that female business leaders often learn is the importance of being assertive yet compassionate

remember that my plans and priorities may change over time, and that it's okay to adapt and adjust my vision for the future as needed. I know that the key is to set clear goals, take proactive steps towards achieving them, and remain open to new opportunities and experiences that come along the way.

What advice do you have for aspiring women professionals who are just starting out?

For women who are just starting out in their careers, here are some key pieces of advice I would offer up:

A Closer Look at the Dynamics of Global Startup Ecosystems

In an era where the boundaries of innovation are constantly expanding, the global startup ecosystem presents a fascinating tableau of opportunities and challenges. Emerging markets, with their burgeoning potential, are stepping up to the plate, offering compelling reasons for startups to consider their shores over the traditional powerhouses of Silicon Valley, New York, and London. As the founder and managing partner of Pearls Capital, a venture capital firm deeply ingrained in the global ecosystem, I have the privilege of navigating these exciting waters, witnessing the emergence of new hubs of innovation that promise to reshape the landscape of entrepreneurship.

Emerging Markets: The New Battleground for Talent and Innovation

One of the most striking developments in the startup ecosystem is the proactive stance of

emerging markets in attracting entrepreneurial talent. Governments and private entities are deploying a range of incentives, from financial subsidies to supportive regulatory frameworks, aimed at creating a fertile ground for startups to flourish. The recent announcement by the Qatari Prime Minister of a $1 billion USD fund of funds at Websumit Doha 2024 is a testament to the ambition and vision of these emerging ecosystems. This initiative is not just about funding; it's a bold statement of Qatar's commitment to becoming a central node in the global network of innovation.

In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the landscape is equally vibrant, with entities like the Saudi Venture Capital (SVC), National Technology Development Program (NTDB), and Jada Fund injecting vital capital into the startup ecosystem. These efforts are complemented by the European Investment Fund's focus on Eastern Europe, where

Munder Shuhumi has carved a distinguished career over decades, first with 10 years in investment management and banking, followed by 12 years as a finTech specialist at leading firms like Goldman Sachs and Man Group. He founded Algoritmi, a finTech consultancy, leveraging his expertise to advise asset managers and sovereign wealth funds globally. His work at Pearls Capital, emphasizing transparency, data-driven decisions, and active portfolio management, showcases his commitment to identifying and nurturing financial technology companies with long-term value potential. The Middle Eastern Renaissance: A Beacon of Innovation

The transformation of startup ecosystems in the Middle East, notably in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, deserves recognition. These regions have made remarkable strides in fostering a conducive environment for innovation, drawing attention from global investors and entrepreneurs

alike. The Magnet report shines a light on these improvements, illustrating how investments in innovation are serving as a catalyst for economic diversification and growth. The strategic focus on attracting and nurturing talent in these ecosystems is not merely about competing with established markets but about offering unique value propositions that resonate with the needs and aspirations of today's entrepreneurs.

The Global Impact of Emerging Ecosystems

The significance of emerging startup ecosystems extends far beyond their geographical boundaries. By offering viable alternatives to the congested and often overvalued markets of established tech hubs, these regions are democratizing access to resources, mentorship, and networks. The concerted efforts of governments and private entities in creating supportive environments for startups are crucial in bridging the gap between potential and success. For investors and venture capitalists, these ecosystems represent untapped reservoirs of innovation, ripe with opportunities for impactful investments.

Creating Value, Driving Change, & Developing Breakthrough Solutions

Hi Juana-Catalina. What was the inspiration behind establishing JnC Nova? What is its mission and vision? With over 20 years of corporate experience, I've navigated the rewarding aspects and challenges of the field.

Seeking a deeper understanding, I embarked on a research project to explore the struggles faced by fellow corporate changemakers. This journey revealed a common thread: despite the rewarding nature of our paths, we encountered similar obstacles.

Motivated by these findings, I began sharing my experiences and those of others, soon realizing

the wealth of insights we had to offer. This led me to compile our stories into a first book, Unsettle Disruption, and now a second book, ‘Unleash Intrapreneurship,’ which will be published in 2025.

And then stepping away from the corporate sphere to pursue a greater mission: helping changemakers navigate these challenges and advocating for purpose-driven innovation.

Then, the pandemic presented an opportunity to extend my support to entrepreneurs and founders, reinforcing my belief that the innovation journey is difficult without adequate support.

Learning from mistakes is valuable, yet access to advice, support, and tools can be

With over 20 years of experience bridging the gap between ideas and reality, I've developed a knack for nurturing startups and fueling corporate innovation across diverse industries

Juana-Catalina is a serial Intrapreneur and entrepreneur and a two-time awardwinning author of ‘Unsettled Disruption.’ On her twenty-eighth bir thday, she immigrated from Colombia to the United States, living and working in several countries since then. For the past two decades, Innovation and disruption have been Juana Catalina’s strong suits, creating value, driving change, and developing breakthrough offers.

Currently, Juana-Catalina is the founder of beterre, an early-stage star tup that aims to raise awareness of plastic pollution and share simple ways to reduce plastic waste. She is also the Co-founder of Circular Disruption Think Tank, a community of learners, doers, and thinkers committed to creating a regenerative future. This community provides resources and space for business leaders and professionals to learn about the circular economy, acquire the skillset for change, and collaborate with others to discover new possibilities.

Recently, in an exclusive interview with CXO Outlook Magazine, Juana-Catalina shared the inspiration, mission, and vision of JnC Nova, insights on the importance of diversity and inclusion, the top qualities, skills, and knowledge required to become successful entrepreneurs, significant career milestones, future plans, pearls of wisdom, and much more. The following excerpts are taken from the interview.

Today at JnC Nova and other entrepreneurial ventures, our mission is to take this philosophy to new heights

transformative. These experiences profoundly impacted both me and those I collaborated with.

Thus, JnC Nova is driven by a desire to share a passion for innovation, convinced that with the right guidance, anyone can embark on this journey.

With over 20 years of experience bridging the gap between ideas and reality, I've developed a knack for nurturing startups and fueling corporate innovation across diverse industries: financial services, construction, consumer goods, retail, technology, and social innovation. Our approach centers on strategic guidance, unwavering support, and practical tools to make innovation accessible.

What are your thoughts on diversity and inclusion? How important is it to have authentic conversations with leaders, professionals, and changemakers to create more acceptance across the globe? When we work with companies to foster innovation and drive transformational change, the essence always comes down to people and their power to collaborate effectively.

Diversity and Inclusion as a core value are transformative. Moving beyond mere programs or talks by truly embodying these principles makes a real difference.

I remember a pivotal moment in my career that vividly illustrates this point.

One of my most rewarding experiences was working with cross-cultural and international teams. From the bustling cities of North America to the diverse landscapes of Africa and the vibrant cultures of Asia and Latin America, I was tasked with driving innovation across my organization. It was during these travels that a powerful realization struck me: the diversity of perspectives,

cultures, and insights was the catalyst for a fundamental shift in how we approached problemsolving within our organization.

We began to assemble international teams rich in diverse backgrounds and perspectives, fostering an environment where the best ideas could flourish. This wasn't just a strategic move for the company; it sparked a wave of continuous learning and engagement among our employees, who thrived on the new challenges and perspectives.

Today at JnC Nova and other entrepreneurial ventures, our mission is to take this philosophy to new heights.

We're not just advising companies; we're embarking on a transformative journey with them. By developing internal programs that champion diversity and inclusion, we're helping organizations create a culture where collaboration bridges gaps, solves complex problems, and gives a voice to those who, in many instances, might not be heard.

These initiatives are not just about fostering a positive workplace environment; they're about unleashing the potential of every individual to contribute to something far greater than themselves.

What are the top qualities or skills you believe entrepreneurs need in order to be successful?

Every entrepreneur I know possesses a distinctive blend of qualities, skills, and knowledge, crafting a unique identity that underscores their strengths. This cocktail is what sets them apart, offering a mosaic of perspectives that fuel their journeys.

What I see after working with many of them are some common threats that empower them to achieve their goals across various ventures, whether it's launching a startup, managing an internal project, or writing a book:

Long-life learning and growth mindset, which includes learning from mistakes; successful entrepreneurs are always looking for new ways to expand their knowledge to be more effective and efficient

Persistence is key: Persistence is a daily chore, executing strategies, marketing their products or services, motivating their team, and making a difference for others. This persistence is what sets them apart and keeps them moving forward.

Focus and consistency: Entrepreneurs need to have laser-focused clarity on their goals, and their vision. It’s extremely easy to get pulled off track with an endless stream of ideas or the next shiny business opportunity.

Self-awareness. One of the most challenging aspects of being a successful entrepreneur is knowing when to stop. Understanding personal strengths, limitations, core values, and aspirations is crucial. This self-awareness gives the clarity to overcome doubts and make confident decisions.

Long-life learning and growth mindset, which includes learning from mistakes; successful entrepreneurs are always looking for new ways to expand their knowledge to be more effective and efficient.

Last, I would say self-confidence—you have to fail to learn, so you need to keep bouncing back. Resilience in the face of failure is essential.

If you could have a one-hour meeting with someone famous who is alive, who would it be and why?

I am passionate about engaging in conversations with a diverse range of people, as every interaction brings forth new opportunities, opens up possibilities, and fosters learning. I firmly believe in the power of cross-pollination as a transformative and evolutionary tool for creating a better world.

My experience is that great ideas are valuable, but their execution is the key to innovation and effecting real change.

Thus, anyone striving to challenge the status quo is someone I am eager to connect with.

Opening my calendar to anyone seeking advice or simply wishing to chat has unveiled numerous opportunities.

A friend once shared that before writing her book, she embarked on the "TOP 100 coffee challenge."

Inspired by her, I began my own challenge this year to learn from changemakers driving innovation at the heart of the sustainability revolution.

I set an ambitious goal to have 1,000 virtual coffee meetings over two years.

So far, the learning experience has been incredibly enriching.

The choice of virtual meetings expands the range of possibilities even further.

Everyone has the potential to make a difference in their own unique context. From individuals dedicated to restoring our agricultural ecosystems and reducing plastic

consumption to intrapreneurs transforming their organizations with a focus on impact and sustainability, I am open to learning from all.

So, if you're interested in a chat, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn and book a time in my schedule.

When it comes to individuals who are widely recognized or tagged as "famous," I would love to chat with J. K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter.

A couple of years ago, I started immersing myself in the Harry Potter universe with my son. I've been astounded by the power of human imagination.

Stories have the capacity to change the world, and talented writers magnify the beauty of creating them. Taking Harry Potter as an example, the series does more than generate commercial success; it invites children as young as seven to dive into its world, inspiring them to

imagine the impossible and onboard into their first book reads.

This is the kind of impact and transformation we should aspire to achieve.

Writers inspire us beyond our own imagination. From fiction to nonfiction books, they have the capacity to drive change.

I expect to be part of this transformational process at every level possible through my ventures and writing.

How do you keep your mind healthy and stay resilient?

Journaling daily, practicing daily gratitude, and savoring little joys.

Moving, eating well, and sleeping.

And how do you motivate your team?

The starting point is empathy, and how we understand our motivations and those of

others begins and delves into the values and desires that drive us.

Recognizing these motivations allows for empathetic interactions, effective communication, and the creation of meaningful incentives for engagement within the team. For example, while some individuals are driven by a desire to accumulate power, others find their motivation in helping others or learning.

Consider my son, who delves into a book, captivated by the fantastical worlds of Percy Jackson or Harry Potter. His drive is a passion that needs no external rewards. Of course, I could not get him to read ‘Matilda’, even if I tried. I could try a reward to force him to read it, but if I want him to be passionate about reading so I need to find a book that immerses him and he wants to read, that will be a long-lasting gift.

This intrinsic motivation is powerful, leading to enduring commitment without the need for

This intrinsic motivation is powerful, leading to enduring commitment without the need for external incentives; this is a strategic element to drive our team’s motivation

external incentives; this is a strategic element to drive our team’s motivation.

Our work is about helping people drive change, so our team is formed for passionate people who want to go beyond borders. When harnessed, this intrinsic motivation can enhance satisfaction, boost productivity, and elevate performance.

How else could we explain the firefighter risking their life, the tennis player enduring pain for training, or the corporate entrepreneur or startup founder facing long hours and intense pressure?

Motivation lies in understanding the broad spectrum of what people value and desire is crucial. While we might align on some values, others necessitate compromise.

Often, there is a tendency to overestimate the importance of our own motivations while undervaluing those of others.

In my youth innovation path, I fell into this trap, wishing everyone shared my perspective. Thankfully, that was not the case. The diverse motivations and orientations contribute to the rich complexity of our world. By appreciating the underlying values and desires that drive us and

those around us, we become not only more effective communicators but also more understanding individuals and leaders.

What is your favorite quote?

"It is not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change." Charles Darwin

And … many other bright minds that remind us of the need to change and evolve.

I also like, “Everything is possible. The impossible just takes longer.” Dan Brown, everything is possible—this is the lesson I was led into at the age of nine after reading David and Goliath for the first time.

Here’s a brief of the story.

Goliath was the giant of the Philistines. He was the champion who challenged the Israeli fighters to wrestle him and decide the country’s fate in a single encounter instead of the constant war. None other than David dared to step ahead and face the forbidding giant. David remained undismayed about Goliath, the giant’s fighting skills, and full-armed support.

There is no sometimes like worklife balance. It is really about finding what you love and seeing how you can integrate it into your life

What’s even more interesting is that David only brought a sling and a stone-filled pouch against the giant’s relentless sword and elephantine shield. Goliath was the first one to charge in the field. At that moment, David located an unshielded spot in the giant’s armor and threw a stone at it with all the power he had. That extremely accurate shot to the head was enough to knock Goliath out, giving David a clear path to victory. David marched in and won the war.

These past few years, I have seen many Davids emerge and disrupt several industries, defeating their Goliath with strategic and unconventional approaches that the giants didn’t see coming. These disruptors created value for consumers by redefining the rules of the game and restructuring the business model—all of this through leveraging technology, one way or another.

What is one accomplishment you’re proud of?

When starting my entrepreneurship journey, I read Adam Grant's "Give and Take," which reminds us that gratitude is a two-way street— the more we give, the more we receive. Whether it's a simple act of kindness or acknowledging someone's impact on our lives, every act of gratitude enriches our journey.

So, one of the everyday accomplishments I am proud of is empowering people to grow, whether mentoring, coaching, teaching, or working as an advisor.

I love to get thank-you notes when people reflect on how I help them.

This creates an effect that is amplified when I deliver a keynote or work with a cohort of changemakers because we know that we are making a difference and uplifting their progress.

What is your secret to striking a worklife balance?

There is no sometimes like work-life balance. It is really about finding what you love and seeing how you can integrate it into your life.

I wrote an article about this some time ago when starting my entrepreneurial journey.

Where

do you see yourself in 5 years from now?

What we do today will come back to us later. The choices, decisions, strategies, and channels we use to meet our ends today will determine their usage, availability, and effectiveness in the future. That’s how we write human history, which unfolds over time, giving us a throwback of what we have done and how we reached where we are today.

I firmly believe in our capabilities to create a sustainable yet viable future. Although we often feel despair, staying optimistic and focusing on the target can help ignite unimaginable creativity and innovation.

One of the most prominent innovations these days is companies’ incorporation of societal needs into their corporate objectives.

Purpose-driven innovation is no longer an Exception but a Rule. Given the significance of a sustainable future, finding the right way to achieve it is the next big question.

It is difficult to channel the existing corporate world’s disruption potential and redesign the economy to attain sustainability with over 8 billion people worldwide.

This makes bridging today’s reality with tomorrow’s opportunity “the elephant in the room.”

The current enormity of social and environmental changes, with The UN’s

Purpose-driven innovation is no longer an Exception but a Rule. Given the significance of a sustainable future, finding the right way to achieve it is the next big question

Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals as the backdrop, has encouraged several big organizations to significantly contribute to a positive environment. So far, collaborative, inclusive, circular, and decarbonized business models are emerging approaches adopted by most businesses for a sustainable economy.

There are so many Davids fighting the Golliats around, and many of them are still in the making.

There are massive opportunities to rebuild the economy for a prosperous and sustainable world. The world is on the edge of the Disruptive and Sustainability Revolution, and we are part of this movement.

What advice do you have for entrepreneurs who are just starting out in the tech industry?

Start with the user, the problem you want to solve, not the technology.

Observe, interview them, and get into their journey to understand every aspect of their struggles.

What problems are they facing? How are they currently solving those problems?

Technology is an enabler and accelerator but be driven by the problem you want to solve.

Your idea might be unique.

I’m not saying that it isn’t. I know many fantastic products that didn’t work, and I guess you also know them.

Feature obsession is a problem that plagues many startups and corporate innovators.

In their eagerness to create the perfect product, companies can sometimes forget why people use products in the first place.

They think they have to pack every feature under the sun into their product because more features = better.

But, unfortunately, that’s not true.

Customers aren’t interested in how many features your product has; they’re interested in whether or not it solves their problem.

You don’t have to know everything from the beginning. So, be sure to learn on the process. How? Prototype, test, and iterate.

The entrepreneurial path can be isolating. It's vital to have a support network, whether through mentorship, coaching, or a community of peers who understand the entrepreneurial journey's highs and lows.
