t is a new world that looks smaller than before. In tune with the advancing technology, the connectivity between far away geographical locations has become faster, which means that decisions made by the western world can impact businesses in the eastern world faster than before. For instance, organizations with clients across the globe would have to worry about global macroeconomics. The ups and downs of exchange rates and inflation changes in different countries would affect the economic performance of multinational firms. Therefore, it has become imperative for such organizations to hire employees who can solve cross-cultural problems and think on a global scale.

To start a career in international management, marketing, accounting, corporate finance, trade consultancy, or even human resources with a multinational corporation, graduates should understand the different business management practices found worldwide. Studying international business schools would help students to see how globalization has

In addition, a long-term benefit of studying business in a global management school is developing the ability to think internationally and thus formulate strategies for your career with the big picture in mind.

The GRE® Snapshot Report further confirms this trend. According to the report, other than the United States, Indian students have been leading the demand for the GRE test. Even amid the pandemic, the number of Indian GRE test takers increased by about 2,000, with the majority choosing the United States as one of the most preferred destinations. Application Requirements When planning to apply for master’s degree programs in the United States, Indian applicants should check the websites of the programs they intend to apply for to see whether a standardized admissions test is required, suggested or optional. “We are extremely proud of our faculty and staff who breathe life and excitement into our courses and pursue scholarly research in a myriad of areas, and at the same time commit to helping students learn how to meet the challenges of our times locally and globally,” adds Dr Ralph. At AUK, the faculty members have moved away from traditional academic models to current quality delivery models of teaching and learning. Moreover, the university has also opened the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), which aims to provide AUK faculty with continuous support and resources necessary to apply modern curricula to their classrooms and promote a holistic educational culture that allows faculty to utilize

Shedding light on AUK’s overseas educational programs and how they provide students with transformative experiences, Dr Ralph shares, “Our international programs provide guidance and resources that help expand educational opportunities abroad.” He further mentions that the university’s existing and developing programs help bridge cultures, deepen understanding, and connect the university community to the world beyond its campus.

Presently, AUK students get the opportunity to intern at Dartmouth College for 7 weeks in the summer as part of its AUK to Dartmouth Summer Internship program. The university also offers programs that send qualified students for a semester or year to pursue full-time studies at one of its partner institutions, such as Dartmouth College, George Washington University, or the American University of Cairo. Besides, according to its incoming graduate student internship and exchange policies, AUK welcomes students from other global universities to intern and study for a semester or year. Promoting Entrepreneurial Spirit in Students One of CBE’s program goals is to promote entrepreneurial behaviour in students, and so it offers career development and guidance services to its students and alumni. A few of AUK’s successful alumni entrepreneurs, Taiba Al-Humaidhi, is the cofounder and head of Product Mix at Floward, a full-fledged e-commerce flowers and gifts solution based in Kuwait. In 2017, she led the rebranding of Floward, formerly known as Q8Flowers, and has since been responsible for designing all floral arrangements and product mix. Salman Hamada, a 2018 CBE alumnus, is known in AUK as the supplier of daily fixes of coffee. He also approached AUK to install his LEET coffee vending machine on its campus.

Tackling the Pandemic Crisis & Planning the Future

The social and leadership opportunities provided through extracurricular activities at AUK encourage students to develop the ability to deal effectively with people, to learn and practice organizational and management skills, and to develop their potential for leadership in their careers and their communities.

41 Higher Education Digest August 2022

During the pandemic, AUK adopted the online mode of education to continue the learning journey of its students effortlessly. This was made possible through the joint efforts of the management and staff of AUK. Moreover, the extracurricular activities were conducted in a virtual setting while sporting activities were suspended. Later, when government policies were relaxed, AUK reopened its door to students with strict safety measures.

When asked about how AUK is preparing to operate in the post-pandemic world, Dean Dr. Ralph replied, “Planning a post-pandemic college is not easy since the future remains uncertain.” This is because COVID-19 has changed the entire dynamics of the traditional educational system. To add more fuel to the fire, the fluctuating cases and arrival of pandemic waves make the future uncertain and planning difficult. He, therefore, says that technology needs to be embraced with face-toface interaction, and accordingly, CBE will respond to the challenges that are sustainable and advance its mission.

1. Strengthen your resume by including skills related to digital marketing To apply for any job (regardless of the industry), you’re going to need a resume. And to get a digital marketing job, your resume needs to be built in a way that makes you seem prepared to learn quickly. Why? Because you almost certainly haven’t developed all the skills necessary to thrive in the role yet.

A s someone who stumbled into digital marketing with no experience in 2016, I can tell you personally that marketing experience isn’t necessary to land work in this burgeoning industry.

First, you should focus on highlighting the skills and experience you do have that are relevant to digital marketing. And it’s certainly Writing a digital marketing cover letter with no experience is fine. But your letter should be even better than one written by an experienced applicant

However, almost six years later (including three years as a hiring manager), and it’s apparent that having specific skills (like writing, HTML, and Excel), as well as being able to interview well will help your chances. Ready to get your foot in the proverbial digital marketing door? I’ll show you how to apply for a digital marketing job without work experience so that you can earn more interviews and eventually land some job offers. From putting together your application to preparing for the interview, here’s how to make your way into a digital marketing career:

43 Higher Education Digest August 2022

The Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Manager I work with regularly doesn’t even look for digital marketing experience in candidates applying to work with him. Instead, the thing he values most is motivation. However, the best play to highlight your motivation isn’t actually your resume. It’s your cover letter.

2. Include experiences that showcase transferable skills and competencies on your resume Let’s clear something up quickly — the “experience” hiring managers are looking for isn’t necessarily “work experience.”

3. Don’t write a generic cover letter Cover letters might not be necessary in every industry, but they’ll help you land work in digital marketing. Note that it’s definitely okay to look at good cover letter examples online and get ideas about how you should roughly write and format your own. However, if you end up following a premade template too closely, you’ll hurt your chances of connecting with a digital marketing hiring manager. For instance, I’ve seen countless cover letters start with this general structure: Dear Hiring Manager, My name is [NAME], and I would like to express my interest in the open position at your company. Based on the job requirements, I’m certain I have the skills and experience required for the role. Although I appreciate everyone who takes the time to apply for a digital marketing position at my company, I appreciate candidates more who clearly put a bit more time into their

For example, are you a digital native comfortable using trending apps like TikTok and Instagram Reels? If you’re proficient with these platforms (even if they seem just like fun things you play around with in your spare time), you’d be surprised to know a lot of marketing managers aren’t good at using them. Like myself. Listing these apps in your skills section can help fill out that part of yourEvenresume.yourtyping speed is something that could potentially impress a digital marketing hiring manager. For instance, the most effective members of my team all type over 100 words per minute (WPM). So if you can score over that on Live Chat’s free typing test and then list your WPM in your skills section, hiring managers like myself will notice.

For instance, have you ever made your own website, completed school projects related in some way to digital marketing, or designed materials for a school club or organization? These experiences show that you’ve already been honing skills applicable to digitalEvenmarketing.workexperiences that might not seem related to digital marketing can help you make the case you’re cut out for such work. Here are some experiences that reflect well on aspiring digital marketing applicants: managing money as a cashier (attention to detail, math skills) helping customers as a teller (organization, people militaryskills)experience (discipline)

44 Higher Education Digest August 2022 possible you’ve already accumulated some of these skills and experiences at this point, even without actual “digital marketing” experience.

application. For example, they could include my actual name (it’s on the job description). Plus they could tell me what open position they’re applying for, and explain what skills and experience they have and how it qualifies them for that specific role (because there are several roles open at any given time).

In the best cover letters I’ve encountered, the candidates always seem to fully understand the responsibilities listed in the job description, and are then able to illustrate how they’re equipped to handle those responsibilities. If you familiarize yourself closely with a job description, you’re immediately in better shape to write an effective cover letter.

4. Showcase your writing skills and sincere interest in the role Writing a digital marketing cover letter with no experience is fine. But your letter should be even better than one written by an experienced applicant.

45 Higher Education Digest August 2022

If I read a cover letter and immediately can tell the writer isn’t addressing me with their own words, my interest in their application immediately drops. I don’t expect everyone to use my name (although I notice when they do and like it). But I do expect candidates to write to me and not some vague concept of a hiring manager.

If you’ve made it to the interview stage, the hiring manager has already determined that you seem capable of handling digital marketing work. What they now want to see is what kind of person you’d be like to work with, and how you’d react in different situations. A digital marketing interview usually entails many of those commonly asked interview questions you read about on the internet. Addressing these comfortably (by preparing for them in advance) will immediately make you seem more confident. You should also spend a bit of time rereading the job description before the interview. Check out the company’s website so you can better understand what they do and what they’re known for. When an interviewer inevitably asks “Do you know much about what we do here?” you’ll be prepared to answer with confidence, and your interest will come off as points in your favor. Lastly, there’s a good chance you’ll be thrown a curveball question at some point during your interview. When you’re asked something truly unexpected (like what state would you remove from the US if you could choose), request a minute to think about it. Take some deep breaths, and gather your thoughts. There’s no rush to answer immediately (within reason), so avoid blurting out something that makes you look bad on accident by taking your time before answering.

Applicants who write clear paragraphs that convincingly explain their desire to work with me and my team are already a huge step ahead of most other applicants. But if they’re also able to touch on a few related skills they’re ready to leverage immediately if hired, they’ll almost certainly make it to the interview stage — regardless of experience level.

Once you begin writing, focus on why you’re interested in digital marketing and what skills you have that would make you successful in the role. Even if you learned those skills in school, volunteering, interning, or elsewhere, if they’re tied to digital marketing they’re worth bringing up.

Equipped with a resume that reflects your transferable skills, a cover letter targeting the specific job you want, and a bit of interview prep, you’ll land your first job in digital marketing before you know it. Good luck on the job hunt! You should also spend a bit of time rereading the job description before the company’sCheckinterview.outthewebsitesoyoucanbetterunderstandwhattheydoandwhatthey’reknownfor

I n the context of an enterprise, we can broadly define innovation as any change to a process, product or service that adds value. Enterprise innovation in the digital age starts with envisioning how organizations can bring together digital technologies, people, data, and processes to provide impactful and personalized services to their customers and sustain a competitive advantage. To compete in a fast-changing digital environment, there is an urgent need for enterprises need to accelerate innovation through rapid experimentation and continuous learning.

Leaders such as CIOs traditionally were tasked with focusing on automating and improving the processes of an existing business. Today, enterprise leaders require the ability to challenge assumptions and reimagine and reinvent that business itself. They need to sense changes in the competitive environment, potential shifts in technology, customer expectations and set strategic priorities for enterprise innovation. For example, the assumption that customers are mass market are no more true there is a need to connect and engage customers as a dynamic network through digital platforms. This creates a great opportunity to innovate and co-create with customers. In traditional businesses, data is stored and utilized in organizational silos. Today, data is being generated at an unprecedented rate—not just by enterprises but by Leaderseveryone.need to be digitally savvy to understand that digital technologies are transforming the ways that businesses innovate. Enterprise innovation requires competent leaders, who, with their knowledge and experience, will be able to drive the change to integrate technology and business Leaders need to be digitally savvy to understand that digital technologies are transforming the ways that businesses innovate

Digital literacy along with tolerance for ambiguity and customer centricity are some of the key attributes to flourish in this digitalTraditionally, age. innovation development and testing ideas were expensive and done by a few in the organization in isolation. Today, digital technologies enable continuous testing and experimentation through technologies ranging from simulation to predictive analytics to 3D printing that were inconceivable in the past. Such prototypes can be built rapidly at a fractional cost and ideas tested quickly with user communities. Technologies such as digital twin, which is a virtual representation of a physical system, enable enterprises to engage in product-centric, model-based innovation processes. The approach is to focus on the customers and their needs and not one product. Rather than concentrating primarily on a finished product, this approach focuses on identifying the right problem and then developing, testing, and learning from multiple possible protypes and solutions. Leaders hence need to encourage constant learning and the rapid iteration of products by putting in place in place both technological and operational foundations that foster cross-functional collaboration and constant evolution. Some of the challenges leaders s face today include organisational silos in storing and utilising data, legacy processes and cultural resistance to change. Leaders need to encourage data-driven innovation capitalising on data sharing and data analytics to sense new customer-centric trends, facilitate data driven decision making and add value to business. Enterprises undertaking innovation projects need to ensure that these projects potentially lead to scalable initiatives that are capable of enhancing business performance. Developing related metrics early in these projects to measure success in areas such as customer experience, revenue growth and retention and employee productivity and sustainability is often challenging too.

Encouraging collaborating by forming external partnerships with partners such as platform companies is another way to explore new innovation opportunities.

For enterprise-wide innovation, leaders need to provide employees the opportunity to generate their own innovative ideas and propose where digitisation / digital technologies could and should be adopted in the business. Investing in digital skills, encouraging risk taking and innovation through competitions such as hackathon across divisions is one way to achieve this.

Use of technologies such as blockchain enable enterprises to participate and evaluate potential partnerships in the innovation process. To facilitate such collaboration effectively, there is a need to balance innovation with good governance. Leaders need to put in place good governance practices that support organisational changes, enables collaborative communications across organisational boundaries and a promote shared digital decision-making culture of an organisation. Such practices may include developing innovative and creative processes, new polices, roles and responsibilities to manage innovation projects effectively. There is a need to ensure that businesses build their digital innovation capabilities on top of a stable and secure infrastructure whether internally or externally sourced and are effective at selecting the most appropriate technologies andLeadersarchitectures.ofsmall and medium enterprises, may proactively tap on various government incentives for enterprise innovation and collaboration as possible. Our past studies indicate that government incentives and regulatory support across Asia Pacific vary widely. Consequently, there is for leaders to lobby the respective governments to provide incentives for innovation and collaboration and put in place or update regulations in the areas of cybersecurity and policies that promote digital governance.

Uncovering Admission Trends at Top US/UK Universities in 2022

Kunal Mehra is the International Education Consultant for Crimson’s India office. He has spent over 16 years in the Educationsectoracrossdifferentverticalsincludingholdingpositions at some of the world’s leading education and technology companies such as Coursera and the College Board. At the College Board, Kunal was the Director South Asia at the College Board, looking over the expansion of College Board programs such as SAT and AP in India. T he benefits of International education at Top US and UK universities have always been long debated and they have always weighed heavier on the pros than the cons. This has largely been due to these universities’ emphasis on holistic education, imparting real world skills as well as the ability for their students to open doors to opportunities in the most competitive workplaces across the globe. The US and UK universities are already considered the most “sought-after higher education systems in the world,” and while we saw a downward trend in 2020 and 2021 largely due to an unprecedented situation globally, however, 2022 created a new record in terms of number of international student applications across both continents. Many attribute the increase, especially among underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and low-income students, to relaxing (and in some cases eliminating) the ACT and SAT testing requirements, outreach efforts by top universities, in the form of increased efforts to reach new students worldwide through online recruiting as well as a growing concern among parents and students around the capabilities of developed countries to weather the storm in case of another global crisis in future. In June 2022, US universities reported a marked recovery from the sharp decline many

More and more international students recognize the value of a quality education and how it opens doors to a world that’s perhaps more well-resourced than their home country

Harvard only accepted 3.19% of its 61,220 applicants and University of Pennsylvania only reported 4.40% of its applicants received admittance letters!

High school students today are relooking at the value and potential of their university education, through the lens of the pandemic aftermath. The pandemic has driven student interests to host of newly created programs

Acceptance rates are decreasing or holding steady at record-low rates across all Ivy League schools. This ongoing trend is likely due in part to the following: Pent-up demand Uncertainty of the pandemic Test-optional policies More applications per student Let’s take a closer look at some of the underlying trends, which made this admission cycle, one of the most competitive cycle till date.

More applications per student

Pent-up demand in international enrollment: The onset of the pandemic saw business and border closures across the world and it was almost a year before there was some sense to be found in this chaos. Universities and students were forced to adapt digital learning pedagogies, as most students couldn’t migrate for their on-campus classes. Not only did this dishearten the students but also the campus culture at top universities. Top US and UK Universities are making a swift recovery from the drop in international applications attributed to the pandemic in 2022-2023. 65% of US Colleges Expect an Increase in International Enrollment This Fall Uncertainty of the post-pandemic world

Test optional colleges accept but do not require SAT or ACT test scores. It’s entirely up to students - whether they want to submit their test scores or not. If they have scored below average, then they may choose not to disclose the score and work on improving their application in other areas. Some schools have gone a step further and declared that test scores will be optional beyond 2022 (whether that be for an additional 2-3 years or permanently needs to be seen).

This year has proven to be perhaps one of the most competitive in the history of the Ivy League and top 50 Universities globally.

Test Optional Policies

72 Higher Education Digest August 2022 experienced in international student enrollment over the course of the pandemic. While a few reported numbers similar to last year’s Class of 2025, some acceptance rates were much lower.

A large number of US universities implemented the test optional policies last year, which they have opted to extend in light of the continued after effects of the global pandemic. With countless tests canceled and many students unable to get to open testing centers in 2020, and with the potential for another year of uncertainty ahead, many colleges have made test scores optional for at least one more year to pre-emptively ease the burden on students with little or no access to testing opportunities.

One of the big outcomes of the last 2 years has been a realization that we live in an uncertain world and how resources will play a huge role in future. More and more international students recognize the value of a quality education and how it opens doors to a world that’s perhaps more well-resourced than their home country.

The number of students who are now making applications to both US and UK universities is on a constant surge post pandemic, largely owing to students making the most of this new hybrid form of delivery, and looking at their options through a redefined lens.

The world of international college admissions is still adapting to the after effects of the pandemic and it’s important to remember the schools in the Ivy League are some of the most selective schools in the world. Tens of thousands of students apply every year, and a tiny percentage actually get accepted. However, International students, especially Indian students, are increasingly becoming aware of the potential and quality of education imparted by universities beyond the ‘usual suspects’, the ivies and other top brands such as Oxbridge, Stanford, LSE etc. Students are now open to applying to a wider gamut of schools and programs (going beyond STEM and Business education) to explore lesser known but equally rewarding areas of study including social sciences, humanities, as well as Liberal Arts and the creative arts.

73 Higher Education Digest August 2022 offered at different universities - some as newly introduced modules and others simply as pivots by universities, towards digital learning.

I firmly believe that the interest in these areas and in the lesser known but equally well placed brands in global higher education is only going to go up from here, leading to an even sharper surge in international student applications in the immediate future.

In general, more students applied to the Ivies than ever before. The University of Pennsylvania and Yale University saw a slight increase in acceptance rates, but minimal in the overall admittance picture, while Harvard reported its lowest acceptance rate in history!

75 Higher Education Digest August 2022

Background and Significance: We have heard stories form our elders that generations back there were no legal contracts for any transactions, be it a land or money or a material or else. People were mutually trusting each other’s call and were trustworthy. When people started being untrustworthy, the fear of transaction started abiding them and effectively reducing the number of transactions for mutual cooperation or business relations. But then people found a way and made a third person, bit respectable in the society, to fill this lack of trust and add reliability in the transaction. Very soon, such a single respectable person was replaced by a GramPanchayat or a societal local panch – the most trustable group of members in the village. And then came the legal courts and legal contracts.

But day-by-day increasing number of frauds, cybersecurity attacks, online phishing and above all the lack of mutual trust has left nowadays people to either avoid completely or to reluctantly activate the transaction. Be it, renting a house or an agricultural land, buying-selling an old car or using a mobile banking, any form of transactions comes with a bit of insecurity, fear and hesitation. This is not a good scenario for the growing markets and the economy. The simple reason for this lies in lack of mutual trust and reliability in the transaction. Both the businesses and the individuals need reliable transaction. Here comes the role of Blockchain technology. The technology that brings a paradigm shift to replace the mutual trust with a trust on the technology and assures more reliable transactions. But here comes a query, if Blockchain is just one more technology, Blockchain technology brings a paradigm shift to replace the mutual trust with a trust on the technology and assures more reliable transactions

What is Blockchain Technology? Blockchain is a network of computers that share and store blocks of information. Once entered a block of information into a network, it can neither be deleted nor be edited but on every transaction a new block encryption is added to it. In a way, it represents the complete sequence of transactions or changes in it.

What makes blockchain so secured?: Record of every change or transaction: All the changes or the transactions in a blockchain can never be deleted and it remains there in an encrypted form. Removal of a part of the changes will change the encryption and so will get detected and becomes impossible.

76 Higher Education Digest August 2022 what makes it so much trustworthy. The answer needs bit understanding on what is Blockchain technology.

Decentralization: The blockchain network is not centralized and so not a single computer or even the government has any master control. Instead, it is decentralized and each node itself has a control over the transaction. So, a common modus-operandi of cyberattack to modify the centralized data itself will not work. Multiple copies: The same information block is copied to multiple computers. Local computers frequently download and keep a local copy. So, any change only at one place will get detected and not possible to mutateReplacingit.

password protection: Drawback of the current system lies mainly in the human entered or stored passwords. Howsoever the encryption mechanism is secured, as far as the protection is through passwords, they can be hacked as individuals may keep it either simple or some mistake in openly using it or providing some hints or others. The blockchain technology replaces the human protection through a machine protection. The network communicates through both private and public key concepts. As a key, wherever there is a need for a mutual trust and reliable transaction, blockchain can be applicable

IoT based data network, private and public messaging network, universal medical record keeping system, e-governance, finance and banking systems, creative arts and music royalty tracking, real estate, supply chain and logistics management, agriculture – pre and post-harvest supply chain management, water chain management and many others are some of the application areas where the blockchain technology is already in use. As a key, wherever there is a need for a mutual trust and reliable transaction, blockchain can be applicable.

But not only it has been already in use by other application areas, it is considered to be applicable in many futuristic applications.

77 Higher Education Digest August 2022

Blockchain Use cases: Blockchain technology is new and many think it to be related only with the cryptocurrencies.

Let’s hope for a better world, in terms of more secured transactions to happen, through the highly disruptive and revolutionary Blockchain Technology in a near future..!

I n admissions circles, it’s become a cliché that elite universities like the Ivies reject thousands of students with perfect scores each year. What many applicants (especially international ones) fail to understand about “holistic review”—the practice of considering the whole applicant, including “hard factors” like academic scores, but also “soft factors” like character, essays, demographics, and more —is that there’s both a science and an art to its philosophy. The purely standardized examfocused education systems of many countries tend not to translate to the US. Likewise, the “checkbox approach” to profile building doesn’t either. One must embody this nebulous idea called “fit.”

Personal Branding Most strong students fail to grasp that being a top student isn’t interesting in itself. Thousands of ambitious grade schoolers later become high schoolers who then become potential Ivy prospects, but academic performance is merely a prerequisite. Aside from being qualified, an applicant must represent something that elite universities need. Each year, admissions departments engage in a complex process of trying to identify an incoming freshman class with an ideal mix of backgrounds, demographics, interests, and talents. They want balance in gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, geography (all 50 states and most countries represented), and so on so they can build a diverse, dynamic community.

Thousands of ambitious grade schoolers later become high schoolers who then become potential Ivy prospects, but academic performance is merely a prerequisite

89 Higher Education Digest August 2022

Officially, Ivies claim not to have strict cut-off scores. Perhaps more important than the actual scores are the depth and rigor of the courses students take. Few applicants realize that Ivy admissions officers really do consider the full high school transcript as well as the high school’s repute. After all, some curriculums are easier than others. In these cases, it may be worthwhile to transfer to a more reputable high school to gain legitimacy. An “A” at a distinguished institution like Phillips Exeter or Phillips Andover Academy may hold more weight than an “A” at an unproven “no-name” school suffering from grade inflation. Those who fail to seize advantage of their school’s academic offerings (settling instead for easy electives) are seen to lack curiosity and drive, two essential values of elite universities. Hence, Advanced Placement (AP) coursework is a great means to expand upon one’s academic interests in a measurable way, if available. Otherwise, you can still complete the exams independently. Extracurriculars Everyone knows that the Ivies seek applicants who remain engaged in their community when outside of class. Most top students— especially those from international education systems that focus on academic performance

Academics & Standardized Testing

90 Higher Education Digest August 2022 Hence, your first step must be understanding where and how one can contribute value. This begins with identifying your unique context (per the factors mentioned above) and the kinds of gaps or niches in the world that you can fill. From there, profile building is all about honing this self-awareness and acting on it. The result is a targeted, purposeful use of one’s time and efforts instead of living and acting in a haphazard manner. For example, an Indian female scholar who enjoys art and women’s empowerment among underserved citizens of her ethnic tradition may explore anthropology-related concerns and build public art installations that give those women the opportunity to earn income from their own handiwork.

91 Higher Education Digest August 2022 over holistic development—either ignore their extracurricular profile or approach it in a transparently mechanical manner. Ivy admissions officers know this, which is why they weed out such candidates. Citing values of “leadership” and “courage,” they often demonstrate bias against those who seem misaligned with their campus culture.

All elite universities care about is whether you pursue your interests with enthusiasm, commitment, depth, and validation from sources external to your school. Thus, where certain students may be focused on excelling solely in class, you must look to sources like national competitions or major publications to gain credibility. Relationships Making concrete impact on your environment should translate to a notable effect on actual people. Serious students typically ignore this seemingly unimportant aspect of life, but it takes more than just individual performance to succeed with Ivy admissions. Your teachers (and potentially, other mentors like coaches or managers) write your letters of recommendation (LORs), a critical application component overlooked by most students. High schools are frequently too overburdened to offer much individualized attention to LORs, so prioritizing their quality through explicit guidance will help give you an edge. Words (about your passion and tenacity) from a school counselor or teacher carry much weight, for they represent the school in an official capacity. Both authors will have witnessed many types of applicants, both unimpressive and exceptional. The Application Last, the application is the crystallization of the personal brand you’ve developed over time. What typical applicants lack is authenticity and vulnerability. Conservative cultures or upbringings may have led them to appear stiff or overly formal in their essays and interviews, which are designed to identify the values of confidence and assuredness that Ivies seek. Thus, you must convey not only a distinct “personal” brand, but also deeper, a “human brand” defined by warmth and relatability. Ivies want students who are fundamentally positive and on a mission to make the world a better place (as opposed to just achieving perfect grades and high salaries). If you look at the essays these schools require, you can see that they also want students who seem like fun.

The standard cocktail of “Community Service,” “School Leadership Position,” “Participant-level Athletics Commitment,” “Uncompetitive Summer Program,” and “File-sorting Internship with Mom or Aunt’s Small Business” will impress no one. The solution is rooting oneself in one’s personal brand. Parents from previous generations—particularly countries with rigid “stream”-based academic tracks—tend to misunderstand American elite educational philosophy. Far more comprehensive than the mere “humanities,” the liberal arts encompasses the arts, social sciences, STEM, business, and more as worthwhile means of understanding the world. It encourages interdisciplinary thinking and critical analysis so students may go on to adapt in a rapidly changing world, where professions seem to become obsolete by the day. You need not choose a particular career or major; you’re free to be “undecided.”

Relevance of an MBA in the Era of AI ACADEMIC VIEW

Dr. Priti Pandey and Prof. Shekhar Nagargoje (School of Real Estate and Urban Infrastructure, RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University, Mumbai)

It is important to impart leadership and decision-making competencies among students and impart skills to understand and analyze the ecosystem of the built environment sector and help decision-making for governments and private organizations in the era of Artificial Intelligence

I n the current context of continuous innovations and technological advancements, the importance of management education cannot be underestimated given the underlying advantages. Students coming from technical education lack preliminary knowledge of multiple disciplines like finance, accounts, audit, taxation, risk analysis, legal compliance and marketing and hence need to acquire an industry-relevant knowledge base and develop the skill set.

93 Higher Education Digest August 2022

Management education is delivered through interactive and discussion-based learning methods. Understanding different perspectives and peer learning are very critical for the holistic growth of a professional. This kind of education provides an opportunity to develop the relationship, leadership, and communication skills. Given the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), educational institutions must implement programmes for promoting the development of globally responsible leaders. It enables to generate a sense of responsibility amongst the professionals through achieving a careful balance of profit, planet and people and promotes Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) factors so that the companies under their leadership can act responsibly, assist in undertaking Stakeholder Analysis with emphasis on your organization, competition, financers, customer/client, consultants, government agencies, public etc. with improved analytical skills. It puts the students on a fast track to get promotions, better-paid opportunities, and an overall boost in their career, enabling exponential growth in the career. However technological advancement and Artificial Intelligence is disrupting the industry and raising concerns about the future of jobs and relevant education.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is very much part of life today and will reshape our future in

It is also important as many corporate leaders with management education are now recognized and invited to become public policymakers and go on to occupy national leadership positions in many countries, including India. We know that in current times of uncertainty and continuous economic upheavals, organizations have to manage with fewer actual talents and leaders, while the demand for such people is expected to rise due to globalization and growing markets around the world. Thus, it is almost impossible to ignore the evergrowing importance of management education.

94 Higher Education Digest August 2022 the times to come. It is evident that the arrival of this technology has sparked concerns that AI may one day make humans useless in the workplace. After all, as technology has improved, several previous manual processes have become automated. Therefore, it is natural to worry that the advancement toward creating intelligent computers will replace human jobs. However, many studies suggest that AI will continue to inspire significant innovation that will support many existing businesses and can create several new growth sectors and, eventually, additional jobs.

AI is programmed for specific tasks to solve problems; However, humans are capable of creative and complex intelligence which includes the kind of problem-solving, abstract thinking, and critical reasoning that will remain crucial in the corporate world. Even if human judgement is not necessary for every task, it is relevant at different stages across the industry. The creative intelligence of human beings has no limits and the ability to think tactical and strategic, leadership qualities, dispute resolution and negotiation, transactional intelligence, emotional intelligence, and compassion are some of the unique abilities that AI cannot replace. Management education is also instrumental in inducting the values such as adherence to ethics, integrity, morality, and service creating awareness about the Code of Conduct.
