*Admission to this event is free. Seating is assigned on a first come, first served basis. Seating is limited and reserved for individuals and families living with Type 1 diabetes, with a maximum of five (5) seats per RSVP.


6:30pm - Opening keynote: We’re All in this Together Joe Solowiejczyk, RN, MSW, CDE Manager, Diabetes Counselling and Training Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute/LifeScan/Animas Joe Solowiejczyk is a nurse, diabetes educator, and family therapist who has personally lived with Type 1 diabetes for 51 years. In this presentation, Joe will use real-life examples to show and discuss what we go through - whether we are the person with Type 1, a parent, sibling, or friend – and what it takes to stay in the game when the going gets tough.

8:30pm – Stories & Songs with George Canyon George Canyon is a multi-award winning Canadian country music artist who has been living with Type 1 diabetes since he was 14 years old. He has been nationally recognized for his tireless work with children with Type 1 diabetes and for his on-going support for the Canadian military. George is the first recipient of the Children With Diabetes Canadian ‘Friends for Life Award’ and is a JDRF national spokesperson. He was recently appointed as the first-ever Colonel Commandant of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. George will share his own inspirational story and message that anyone with diabetes can live their dreams, no matter what the odds. George will also perform selected songs during the evening.
