CALL FOR PROPOSALS D-Camps Ontario is looking for speakers and activity specialists for our D-Tour teen weekends and Family Camp programs. Are you a person with something to say about life with Type 1 Diabetes? Have you done something inspiring that you want to share with other like-minded folks? Are you a tech-savvy diabetes ninja with tips and tricks? Send us your presentation or activity idea and help change the lives of people living with Type 1 Diabetes for the better!

D-TOUR ONTARIO 2014

EAST: Parham (Kingston-area), ON – February 21-23, 2014 CENTRAL: Schomberg (GTA-area), ON – March 28-30, 2014 D-Tour weekends focus on teenagers who will be transitioning from pediatric to adult care in the near future. While our tagline references the 3D’s of diabetes (“dating, drinking, driving”), we discuss a wide variety of topics that help teenagers prepare for personal independence. Typical Audience: 15-30 teenagers aged 14-18 Past Topics: world travel with diabetes; social media advocacy; diabetes apps 101

FAMILY CAMP 2014

BANTING: Parham (Kingston-area), ON – May 2-4, 2014 HURONDA THUNDER BAY: Thunder Bay, ON – May 16-18, 2014 HURONDA 4-DAY: Huntsville, ON – August 25-28, 2014 HURONDA 3-DAY: Huntsville, ON – August 29-31, 2014 Type 1 Diabetes impacts beyond the diagnosed individual and affects the entire family. Our Family Camps help provide new tools and mechanisms for improving the lives of those affected by diabetes in a fun, safe environment. Sessions are designed to encourage adults and children alike to meet new friends who understand the unique situations that occur while living with Type 1. Typical Audience: 20-50 parents/guardians of children living with Type 1 Diabetes and/or 20-40 children/youth living with Type 1 Diabetes (self; siblings) Past Topics: Pump Therapy 101; Realistic Carbohydrate Counting; Climbing Everest w/T1 To submit a proposal, please send a written summary (max. 500 words) and a short biography of the speaker(s) (max. 100 words each) to Amanda Grassick, Manager, Camp & Youth Programs (amanda.grassick@diabetes.ca). Please specify to which program you are proposing. *D-Camps will sponsor travel arrangements within the province of Ontario and provide a small honourarium to all speakers at these listed programs.
