“We try to pull mom from the shelter before she delivers, otherwise her puppies get adopted and mom is left to be euthanized”, says Susana Burgess, the founder of All Paws on Deck, a Connecticut based dog rescue whose mission is to save pregnant dogs from shelters.

The moms are spayed and undergo training and heartworm treatments. The rescue relies on donations and puppies adoption fees to cover operational costs and supplies like pee pads, food and medication. Moms are so overlooked but there are many advantages to adopting an adult dog! You already know her full-grown size, her personality, likes and dislikes. They are house-trained, altered, and up to date on vaccinations, saving you a lot of money on vet bills, too. Adult dogs are typically much less work than taking on a puppy and their loyalty and appreciation is priceless!
