Name: Alexander Andy Su School: SMK Kampung Nangka Recycling involves a series of activities. It starts with the collection of items thrown out by users. This is followed by sorting, the processing of the recyclable items into raw materials and the manufacturing of the recycled raw materials into new products. These procedures create a closed loop that ensures the overall success and value of recycling. Many things can be recycled or reuse. For example, glass bottles can be reused to store things like sweets or spices. They can also be deposit into brown recycling bins or sent to a collection centre. Old newspapers and unwanted books can be put into blue recycling bins whereas old greeting can be made into bookmarks. Apart from that, aluminum cans can be reused to make pen holders or deposit into orange colour recycling bins to be recycled. Old tyres can be used for planting flowers or converted into artificial reefs. It cannot be denied that recycling brings benefits to earth and human. Recycling reduces the use of natural resources as we need not mind for more minerals things to make new things. It also reduces pollution and the amount of energy in manufacturing. By recycling, we can also save trees from being felled to make more paper. Furthermore, recycling and reusing will reduce the number of rubbish dumps needed to throw rubbish. We can use this land space for something else, like building houses or for agriculture purpose. It also creates jobs and revenue. Unless people buy recycled-content products, the process of recycling cannot be effective. Methods for the recycling and reuse of certain items like electronic products and computers are being developed to prevent waste and save additional materials and energy. Once recyclable, items have been cleaned and properly sorted, the item are ready to be made into new products.

I’M A GLOBAL CITIZEN Whenever the notion of a global citizen comes to mind, many will immediately associate him with one who stands at the height of intelligence and affluence, someone who holds great power and influence. But in truth, reality proves otherwise. He isn’t one who commands at the apex of wealth, but a humble mortal who thrives at the zenith of morale. Globalization has increased interaction and mobility. This has altered the minds of people and thus, they learn to think and reason on a global basis, to care for every living being on earth. The conjugation of the very concept of citizenship and globalization has given birth to another, one that merges their ideals – the idea of global citizenship. The peoples of the world are one people, enriched by cultural differences, united by the common bond of humanity. The diversity of the global community is its greatest strength; understanding and respect are its greatest gifts. I being barely out of sixteen, people tend to underestimate my influence as a global citizen. Unfazed, I hold fast to my convictions. I believe in myself. I stand among equals. People are not variegated by skin color, country or gender. It pains me to see social injustice rife in even the most urbane metropolis, and rampant in the poorest of hamlets. While others scoff with contempt, I choose to hold their hands, to accept them as equals. I live to learn. I strive to decipher the very wheel which our world revolves in and its many facets, whether economically, politically, socially, culturally, technologically or environmentally. My thirst for knowledge is never quenched, and never do I grow weary of my inquisitiveness. I need to know. I make it a habit to leaf through leading newspapers of the world. In keeping up with the breakneck pace of this dynamic world, I gain valuable insights into the world, its countries, and its people –critical information vital to formulating a sound and systematic approach to alleviate the complications that mire humanity. I give and care. A torrent of despondency overwhelms me as I hear and see the cries of our counterparts in need. I always try to be the beacon of hope that brings a smile upon their frowning faces by succoring aid to assuage the crushing weight of predicaments plaguing their everyday life. I stand my ground. I am an advocate of peace, justice and unity. While others embroil in delusions such as racism and religious extremities, I look at

the bigger picture. I envision a world free of discrimination, bloodshed and impoverishment and refuse to sit idly as humanity regresses into a dark abyss. I believe in myself, believe that I can make a difference. I attest to the fact that my actions will one day realize my ambitions, and boost my endeavor to achieve it. I am a global citizen A global citizen is a person who knows many things of the world. Not many people can really be a global citizen. I think I am a global citizen because of several reasons. Firstly, I like to make friends with people from other countries. They are very friendly and kind. Through making friends with them, I improve my knowledge of other countries. I know many customs of other countries now. I can also invite these friends to come to Malaysia and learn about our customs. Secondly, I am also able to speak English. English is a universal language in the world. It is the most important language in the world. We use English to communicate with people from different countries. Without English, it will be difficult for us to communicate with each other. Thirdly, I am interested in other cultures. I like to study the cultures of various western countries. The cultures of western countries are different from ours. But I like both the cultures very much. Lastly, I get many benefits by being a global citizen. I am a global citizen!

I’M A GLOBAL CITIZEN I will be responsible, take care of my environment and do not destroy the Earth ,because I am a global citizen. The world that we live now is badly affected by the pollution. The rivers, the seas, the air and the land are polluted. The things we eat or drink are also polluted. So,first ,we must keep the environmentall clean .As I will not throw the rubbish on the floor , we must throw it into the dustbin. Secondly , we must encourage individuals to grow more trees and refrain from cutting down them and also practise replant trees so that excess carbon dioxide in the air can be absorbed by the plants. If we cut the trees, more animals will lose their habitat. Thirdly, the factories must treat their acidic waste gases before releasing them into the atmosphere. It will lead to the air pollution. Lastly,I will take good care of the environment.

Now,we have the job to prevent the pollution from became more serious. First,we do not litter .We need to reduce the plastiv bags. We should throw the rubbish in the rubbish dam.Second,we need to avoid open burning. We should just cover up to the rubbish by soil. I give an example for everyone. If we are farmer, we can just use the waste of the paddy to make a scarecrow or fertilzeers and these can avoid open burning. Next ,we need to reduce the use of plastiv bags. We can choose reuseble bags. If we improperly burned the plastic bag it will produce. Poison gas. But if we choose reuseble bags ,air pollution can be avoid. Last but not lease,we needed to chopose the unleaded petrol.unlead petrol will avoid the air pollution. So, these all are the ways to prevent polutions in our enviromenst. My strive ness to always have first hand information on the happenings in the world because I am global citizen. On December 27 2008 the started of Israeli-Palestinian conflict had caused lot damage and losing life of the innocent people. As a global citizen, the sympathy to them inspires me to help the needs because I see myself as a merchant of hope. I donated to the Palestine charity. Encourage others to do the same by supporting them, a sense of hope and give them the necessities in order to survive the brutal life. It helps me to develop a sense of identity, self esteem and beliefs. Global citizenship enables me to tackle injustice. It enabled me to value the earth and safeguard the future, to respect and value diversity. It enhanced my understanding on how the earth works economically, socially, culturally, technologically and environmentally. Nowadays, the current issue of the injustice to the environment is the Global Warming. Why is it happen? Is it happen automatically? No, it is because of the irresponsible mankinds who conduct and construct illegal logging, open burning and using to much the machine that produce chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), nitrogen etc. To prevent this, we need to enforce law strictly and give corresponding punishment to the guilty. Campaigns encourage stopping open burning and minimum the usage of machine that produces dangerous gasses As a global citizen, I am willing to learn and utilize those skills that can help me improve my standard of living and that of other people. Therefore I do undertake computer training for the students. With the knowledge of computer, the students can communicate with people from all over the world, treat them as the sources of information and subscribe publications that can enhance their studies. As a member of the leaders at school I work with the students to uncover my leadership capabilities and provide a path for them to put my capabilities into practice.also,I emphasize the importance of reading books because I am conscious of the fact that readers are leaders. Carrying the responsibilities as the global citizen force me to face some challenging situations. Amidst the difficulties, I strive to make a difference because I am aware that if I advance confidently in the direction of my dreams and effort to live the life I have imagined. I will meet a success unexpected in common hours.

Moreover, I also accept difference and do not react without hostility to people who are different from us because in Malaysia is a multiracial country such as Chineses, Indians, and Malays. I also try to understand other race because every race has their own culture , faith, and taboo. I will take part in the campaign of the``anti-war” because the war only make the more innocent people more suffers. I will help them as posible as I can do. No matter what, I want to prove that war only make more people suffers and destruction. I believe everybody doesn’t like to fjght and it just makes both sides hurt badly. BE A GLOBAL CITIZEN!!! Global Citizen or also known as World Citizen is a concept of being a citizen at a global level. A Global Citizen is someone who understands and respects all cultures and can guide people to understand locals group or individuals of different communities in the world. The interest of being a global citizen is motivated by local interests as well as global interests and care for human beings as well as human rights. The key of global citizenship, which means a respect for any and all fellow global citizens, no matter their race, religion, give rise to a universal love above the barriers of nationality. I quote Thomas Paine in Rights of Man: “My country is the world, and my religion is to do good. ” He says, to be a global citizen looks simple yet it is as it’s stated. All you have to do is to show respect and love to everyone equally, not caring their race, religion, belief, culture, cleverness (genius or not), rich or poor, black or white, brown or yellow, weird or not, which country they are from, and many more. In schools, multicultural we can also learn to be global citizens, if we study education, peace education, human rights education and international education. British Council Connecting Classroom (BCCC) helps me become a global citizen and tries to educate the future leaders towards achieving a better world. By joining this program, I have learnt to interact with different people from different places. Through this program I have learnt more about other’s religion, culture and many more. Students will get to broaden their knowledge and become more open minded to ideas. This program connects different schools from different countries and has created a website where there is a forum, where students can share ideas, culture, and beliefs, learn more about each other and get to share their opinions. I get to play games, take part in competitions and many more. This forum is not only for the students but also for our teachers. Teachers can also share their ideas and opinions with teachers from other countries. Students can learn more through this healthy program, which is why many schools from different countries are encouraged to participate in this program and make the world a better place, a peaceful world, a world without comparison and differences between humans. I AM A GLOBAL CITIZEN In this globalization and atomic age, a global citizen can be defined as a person who cares for the world and brings about positive change for the betterment of mankind. I consider myself as a global citizen because I am aware of the wider world and have a passionate desire to enrich my life and that of others through a variety of international experiences. I am global minded and strive to have first hand information on the happenings in the world. I am passionate in living a fulfilling life by harnessing and developing my capabilities to help create an impact on my life and that of other young people. I am willing to learn and utilize those skills that can help to improve my standard of living and that of other people especially the youth by creating space for initiatives and innovations. As a global citizen, I see myself as a merchant of hope and awareness by speaking to the collective imagination of other people. I exercise my role as a global citizen by taking responsibility for my actions and be willing to better myself and teach others through my character, speech, letters, articles, other ways of contribution and making maximum use of opportunities. I allow my commitment to inspire the commitment of others; aligning and mobilizing others around, a shared vision of a better future. I have invested a reasonable amount of my time, managing my ethics, character, principles, purpose and motivation. I place myself strategically to solve other people's problems and make myself relevant to their interests and needs. I have been involved in activities aimed at the local people but which command global relevance.

Global citizenship helps me to build and maintain a network of relationships that enhance my effectiveness. It helps me to develop a sense of identity, self esteem and ethos. Global citizenship enables me to tackle injustice and crime. It empowers me to value the earth and guard the future and to respect and value biodiversity. It enhances my awareness and understanding of how the earth works economically, socially, culturally, technologically, cooperatively and environmentally. In addition, as a global citizen, I have founded a non-governmental organization (NGO) known as the "Awareness committee international" (ACI). Through the NGO, I reach out to secondary school students with the message of abstinence from premarital and free sex as the best way to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS. The overall aim is to help them to know the facts about HIV/AIDS such as how the virus is and is not transmitted; how they can protect themselves; how prevalent it is in their locality, the benefits and importance of knowing their HIV status. I am quite sure that we as students will be able to understand the message of abstinence in our early teens and will be able to abstain from activities which can cause HIV/AIDS. Apart from that, I do encourage my friends to acquire computer knowledge and skills so that we can communicate with people from all over the world, source information and subscribe publications that can enhance and improve our studies and skills to interact with the others. I work with my friends to uncover and harness our leadership capabilities and provide a platform for us to channel our capabilities into practice. I emphasize the importance of reading books, especially newspapers and encyclopedias because I am conscious of the fact that “readers are leaders. Recently, we have been hearing and reading news about

environmental abuse in all aspects. As a global citizen ways on how to help reduce this aggravating matter is always on my mind. First and foremost, I want to touch on air pollution which usually happens in the city. Sometimes, when I am driving or boarding vehicles, I would see the hazy black smoke in the sky. So, what is the black smoke and where does the smoke come from? The answer is the black smoke is the combination of harmful gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, lead, dust, smoke and soot; a result of man’s activities. These gases are emitted from the factories, cigarette smoke, incomplete combustion of fuels, burning of fuels, forest fire, construction sites and cement plants, burning of rubbish and fuels and burning of leaded petrol. All of these gases can cause global warming, greenhouse effect, health problems and haze. Then, there is water pollution which is also a never-ending problem that brings us a lot of difficulties. Water is a domestic source which is important for health and for us to carry out our daily activities. Well, many people take water for granted and continue their irresponsible act of polluting water and its sources by throwing rubbish and toxic substances into rivers and seas. Aquatic flora and fauna will die or become extinct. Why should we suffer like this? All of these are the wrong doings of people who destroy captivating and wonderful Mother Nature!

So, I would like to do whatever it takes to play my role as a global citizen to create awareness in caring for and protecting the environment to my friends, neighbours, relatives and even my family

although I am still young. I promise to inspire all global citizens to conserve and preserve our environment. Actually, taking care of Mother Earth is every inhabitant’s responsibility. As a global citizen, I also have to acknowledge the importance and relevance of appropriate values, attitudes, personal and social education. I am entitled to knowledge, skills and values to enable me develop as a global citizen. I need ideas, downloadable lesson plans, background information and lot more to inspire my mind. This can elevate me to a higher standard in commanding universal affairs. As a global citizen, I face some challenging situations which include lack of support and ignorance of the people on the environment. Nevertheless, I do not want to be weighed down by the obstacles. Amidst the difficulties, I strive to make a difference because I am aware that if I advance confidently in the direction of my dreams and endeavors to enhance my life, my efforts will bear fruit unexpectedly in common hours.

Global Citizen Due to the advancement in information communication techonolgy or ICT, the world has become “smaller today. Business transactions and social networking have become faster and more efficient, and in many cases, reduced to just a click of the electronic mouse.

As such, what seemed to be a large and vast world before has been reduced to a borderless world or 'Global Village'. And thus, we have all become Global Citizens. The global village has helped mankind in many ways. We can communicate faster through mobile phone, electronic mail, SMS, MSN, online chatting, Skype and other electronic means. Besides speedier communication, faster air travel with more budget fares and more comprehensive coverage have all helped to bring closer ties between loved ones and friends. One can reach the other side of the globe within a day to meet up. Global village will continue to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our dealings in business, commerce, administration, social, politics and education with the international communities.

I’m a Global Citizen

I have a dream. A dream that anyone else would like to achieve too-a world that is filled with happiness, peace and harmony. Still, there is one thing that stopped me- lack of unity among human races. What is unity? Unity is something that needs everybody concern to involve too. I hate the phrase ‘You are Black and I am White’ because unity doesn’t care the type person you are. So, no matter what colour you are, where you are from, how you live or even who you are, we are the same. As an example, Even if you are from South Africa, you are still the same with the people from the England or even U.S.A! We can use Malaysia motto as an example- ‘One Malaysia, One nation, People first, Performance now. What I get from this motto is that we should unite together to make a peaceful life. I want to share with all of you a story about the effect after the America’s war against Iraq. A large number of Iraq is died in that tragic war. I sympathize those children who were lost their beloved parents, relatives and they are now left alone. How would they live without their parents who always guided and protect them? So, with unity, we can eliminate war. The dangerous, life-taking diseases would also be gone. By the way, the most important thing is, all the children wouldn’t lose their parents! In the other hand, the world will be a peaceful place without war. Last but not least, I hope my dream will come true so that the world would be a better place for the future generations.

Climate change causes habitat changes both for people and animas. Climate changes are already impacting people's health. Global warming has caused intense heating up of the environment. In areas where people are not prepared for extreme heat, there have been devastating heat waves recently. There were heat flare-ups in Europe in 2003 which lasted as long as two weeks. Temperatures soared to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures like this are common in parts of the American Southwest, for example. People are wellequipped to deal with the heat because that is the climate zone they are living in. However, Europe is usually much cooler. Residents there were not ready for such temperatures. Over 35,000 people died in Europe as a result of the heat waves that year. There have also been heat waves in North America. One in 2006 claimed 226 lives. Another probable result of global warming is increased pollen in the air. This happens because a higher level of carbon dioxide encourages the growth of more pollen-producing weeds. Because more pollen means worse air quality, those with allergies and asthma thus, suffer. Global warming can also affect the incidence of tropical disease. Mosquitoes have been found in places that were once too cold for them. High elevations, such as mountains were once free of disease-carrying mosquitoes. However, as the warmth climbs higher up the mountain, so do the mosquitoes. The mosquitoes carry malaria to new regions of Indonesia because of global warming. Dengue fever has reached elevations in the Andean Mountains of Colombia where it was never seen before. Other health concerns related to global warming revolve around flooding. When sudden storms and flooding occur, it is often impossible to get ill or injured people to medical facilities in time to help them. Often, people take dangerous risks during floods. They drive into water, thinking that they can make it across. When they do not, they can get swept away and drowned. There is no graver consequence of

global warming than death, of course. People are also left with messes to clean up after floods. This can result in exposure to high levels of mold. Many people will have intense allergic reactions to mold. The person can have hives all over the body. Sometimes, the tongue will swell and cut off breathing. It is a serious condition. Curtailing global warming would lessen the incidence of flooding and prevent this many times. Since global warming can have an effect on the food supply, it is obvious that people can suffer from malnutrition. This is especially true in agrarian societies in underdeveloped countries. If all people knew how much global warming can affect their health, they might be more prone to working on a solution. Until then, those who understand the ramifications of global warming will have to work even harder.

Title: I am a Global Citizen Have you ever imagined what our earth would look like fifty more years in future? What I want to say is the state of the environment is getting worse. Whatever beauty that we are having now will disappear one day. We can only see pollution everywhere. First of all, the problems happen because of the attitude of human beings. We seem to throw rubbish everywhere as we like without thinking of the consequences. Everywhere we go, rubbish bins are provided. Why don’t we use them as they are useful to us? Moreover, rubbish dumped in rivers and seas has caused water pollution. The irresponsible factories and farmers flow out the toxins, animals’ waste and poisonous fertilizers into the rivers and seas. All of these problems are causing extreme harm to the marine life. For example, the Leatherback Turtles were extinct because of pollution of rivers and seas. Besides pollution in our waterways, the world also suffers from air pollution due to heavy traffic, fumes from factories, smoke from open burning and dust from construction projects. The harmful fumes emitted from these human activities will affect our health especially the elderly and children. Therefore, we should play our roles as the global citizens. The problem may be big, but if all of us work together to maintain earth resources and use them wisely, reuse and recycling waste, I am sure we can make a difference and save the EARTH! Yes, I’m a global citizen! Let’s start work now. Written by, Nur Ain Bte Annual Ong SMK Baru Bintulu

Global Citizen We humans come from different countries, religion, races, gender and age. We have our own cultures and beliefs. We also have different personalities. In short, we are all different and unique in our own way. Human beings are earth-inhabitants who are struggling to identify and live their own life independently. Humans always try to learn from that irretrievable past, to live this overwhelming present, and desperately hope for a better, brighter future to the globe. Although we are different, we have one similarity which is, we are all citizens of the earth. Therefore, we are called the ‘Global Citizens’. We all have one responsibility that is, taking care of the earth. We must join hands to save the earth together. A global citizen is aware of the wider world and has a sense of his own. Global citizenship is a new term, but it is based on an ancient concept - a global citizen is anyone who works to make the world a better place. A feeling of global citizenship is motivated by local interests such as loves of family, communal fairness, self interest as well as global interests. We are willing to act to make the world as a more sustainable place to live in. There are many harms going around our world. Examples are pollution and human war. Pollutions are caused by human activities. If we humans are the primary cause of pollution then we humans would be the solution to it. The ways to overcome these problems are simple and much easier if we all work together. Human wars happen everywhere around the world. We humans are afraid of it. All we can do is pray to God for it to stop. Imagine if millions of people praying for peace, we would be creating a co-operation of wanting to stop war. We must realize that if we do not bring to a halt all these wars, it will lead to destruction and death to human beings! In conclusion, we must respect one another and help each other to form a great community. We humans must unite in order to save the earth from harm. The earth has given us many benefits and it is the only place where we can put our feet on. All we have to do is take care of it. Is it really that hard? We are all one family in this very big world. Take a look at the bigger picture. If the earth suffers, then we humans will suffer too. Remember, human beings are the saviour of the earth. Prepared by Class School

I’m a Global Citizen There is no other place like this world. A place full of life. People of different races, cultures and religions. First of all, I’m proud to be a global citizen because for me all of us have the responsibility to make this world a better place to live. This colorful and beautiful place is called Earth. As a global citizen, it is my duty to gather all my friends and family to join forces to save the Earth. The world would be a far better place if we all believe we are citizens of the world. However, for those who ignore this responsibility, it is impossible to make this world as perfect as we want it. We have to take action and unite together so that we can preserve our planet. Being a global citizen means that we have responsibilities not just to each other but to the Earth herself. To unite together, we have to learn to be good in nature. To be good in nature, we must first learn how to tolerate with each other. We are all humans, therefore we are already linked to one and another. Therefore, we should respect all other people ways of life no matter you are black or white, brown or yellow. Being egocentric will divide us even further, thus disable us to unite. Unity is a very important element of being global citizenship because if we unite together, we will achieve more and more things for instance justice, power and peace. As they say, All For One and One For All. We should also open our mind on how to create a peaceful place for everyone regardless their skin colors, race and religions believes. We all have our differences so it’s alright to try out something new. For instance, why not trying to make kites like Asian people do. Who knows, maybe we could gain some knowledge and at the same time, we can learn about their culture. We also want a greener world. To achieve a greener world, we need to protect the forest, therefore logging should be controlled. Government should take serious action if someone does illegal logging. If all the trees in this world is cut of, the ozone layer of the Earth becomes thinner, thus it will cause of the rising of the Earth temperature. We need to plant new trees to ensure the Earth’s temperature stay cool. As a global citizen, let’s care about the others. Give our sympathy to the poor and war-torn countries. Help them with all the strength that we got and I believe someday we could share our happiness together.

From the above point, we should plan the future so that our future generations will have a better world to live. In other words, The Future Is In Our Hands.

I am a Global Citizen The Earth we live in now is badly affected by pollution. The rivers and sea are polluted. Consequently, the water we drink, the air we breathe in and food we eat are all polluted. Scientists believe the change in weather pattern is just the tip of the iceberg in the larger context of global warming. The worse is yet to come. What we are experiencing - bizarre rain storms, extreme atmospheric conditions and rising sea levels – are all tied to climate change. This sad state of affair does no good for our health and wellbeing. Pollution is virtually destroying Earth. The world is suffering from what is commonly termed as greenhouse effect - the trapping of heat in the atmosphere that causes global warming. If pollution goes on, we will surely destroy ourselves too. We ought to value our Earth for it is the only place that we can live through out the Galaxy. Get rid of pollution is quite impossible. So it is very important for us that try to keep pollution minimum. The very first thing for everyone is to stop dumping rubbish anywhere they like. The piles of rubbish on the road sides, in ditches and drains, in backlands or even on the main roads too. We can see the rubbish that has been dumped by ourselves. Perhaps we could recycle the things we use instead of throwing away. We could reuse the things like glass, metals and plastics. We could cook only what is necessary instead of simply throwing them away. Then we have less rubbish to throw and that means less pollution to our Earth. Motor vehicles are major cause of air pollution. They emit much exhaust fumes that is not good to our health. In big

cities, this pollution has reached levels that pose a threat to the health of city dwellers. Some cities have already advised their residents to wear masks when they are on the road. Obviously, the only way to reduce air pollution is to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads. Factories are largely responsible for pollution of the air, water and land. The waste they discharge into the rivers and lands destroy both. The smoke that they emit has seriously polluted the air. They must find ways to reduce the smoke they emit and treat their waste so that it is less harmful. Saving our Earth is up to us. So, for our future generation, we must stand up together and say “ NO ” to pollution. Yes, I'm a global citizen.  Written by, Peggy Moh Pui Kee SMK BARU BINTULU

I Am A Global Citizen I am a global citizen. Global citizen is a citizen that knows about the planet. Whether it’s the technology we use, what the people on the other side of the planet are doing, how they live, how the environment affects them and more.

One of the things that I write about today is about global warming. Global warming is caused by the increasing carbon dioxide and methane in the ozone layer. The heat normally escapes the atmosphere. But carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane have trapped the heat in the atmosphere. Without these gases, heat would escape into space.

Human behavior in the planet is causing global warming. So we have to curb global warming by studying and investing in clean, energy and renewable energy.

Next, although greenhouse effect is important but if the greenhouse effect becomes stronger, it will increase the pollutions on the planet. Greenhouse effect has affected our lives by decreasing air quality in cities,

increasing the temperature of the planet. As a result, floods and melting of iceberg in the Atlantics occur. The losses of the glaciers will cause land slides, flash floods and overflowing of glacial lake. The sea level and temperature will increase every year. To avoid all these, we can curb pollution by driving smart, by buying local organic, by replacing light bulbs with fluorescent bulbs, and by becoming a smart water consumer. Besides, we can plant trees, preserve trees, protect forests, reduce, reuse and recycle, as well as carry out local campaigns against global warming. We can do all these to reduce environmental problems.

Besides, the climate change will

increase or

decrease the amount of rainfall or snowfall. For example, the winter days of New York would be sunnier or hotter. The climate change is caused by people in the planet. For example, watching television, using air conditioner, turning on a light, listening to stereo, and burning fossil fuels. What will happen if the climate changes? Human health would be affected. Then, the sea level will rise because of the melting of the glaciers. Next, some of the people could not have enough food to eat because they cannot grow plants.

Driving a car or using electricity is not wrong. We just have to be smart like practicing car pooling, saving electricity, cycling and walking whenever possible. Talk to your family and friends about climate change to protect our environment and make our planet a better place to live in. By Sandra Yet Xue Lin (2H)

Our lands are rich in natural resources.

People cut down trees for development.

We must plant trees to reduce pollution.

Global Citizen

What does Global Citizen mean? Many people, from all walks of life, do not know exactly what the specific meaning of Global Citizen and the right way to be a citizen of the world. Global citizen is the concept of citizenship but on a higher stage. We are not just a citizen in our own country but we are also a citizen of our world. Being Global Citizen is not just to know what is happening around the world but it goes beyond that. We, as a citizen of the globe must acknowledge our responsibilities among ourselves and the world at large. We see a Global Citizen as a person who is very alert and conscious to what is happening to the world and has a sense of awareness of their own role as a world citizen. He discerns what he should do to help the Earth and he will never sit back and relax until he has done something. He is also someone who respects and values diversity. The concept of diversity is acceptance to differences that we, humans have. He is a person who really regards these varieties of individual in the world and to be able to see that each individual is unique and special on its own way and recognizing our individual differences. Besides that, a Global Citizen is also a person who has an understanding of how the world works economically, politically, socially, culturally, technologically and foremost, environmentally. He is the people who participate and contribute to the community from local to global and most importantly he is the one who are willing to act and determine to change the world as a better place for humans and other creatures to live in. He is also unafraid and apprehensive to take responsibility for their action. In other word, He is someone who is very dauntless and valiant on whatever he is doing. So there are many things that we have to do in order to be a good Global Citizen. We have to realize that being a Global Citizen is a responsibility that we have to carry and accomplish. We must not take it as an obstacles or a burden. We have to unite and co-operate with people around the world because currently the Earth is sick -global warming is one of the problems the Earth is facing with. We have to do something and we could not do it alone without assistance from the others. Let us put our hands together because we are the only creatures who can make the Earth a more comfortable and safer place to live. The Earth has done us a favour, by being one of the most protective planets in the universe. We should protect the Earth to repay the invaluable comforts it has given us. LOVE OUR EARTH Our earth is getting older day by day. Hence, we should be alert of what is happening to our beloved earth. Our home planet is being threatened by pollution. The pollution is the results of irresponsible human activities. One good example is open burning although it is prohibited. Harmful gases are also released by factories. In fact, owners of factories should have filtered the gases first. As a result, the earth is getting warm because of these harmful gases. This is called global warming. The ozone layer becomes thinner which is a result of the harmful gases. Thus, heat from the blazing sun will easily pass through it. We, who live on the earth, are the ones who suffer from the consequences of pollution. Therefore, we should help to save the earth. Each of us must have a role to protect our home planet from pollution. We may organize a campaign that will create the awareness of people that pollution does only harm. Besides that, government should enforce laws to prohibit open burning and take action on those who disobey the laws. Recycling is a way too. Recycle means to put objects or materials in a process to be used again or to make use of used objects or materials. If we recycle, it can reduce waste. Fewer natural resources such as wood from trees would be used. Trees are important in the ecosystem as they provide us oxygen. Plastic bottles, tin cans and newspapers are the items that can be recycled. Play your part immediately to save our beloved home planet. Ices in North Pole are melting. Surely, we may be in serious trouble if we do not react fast. Global warming has always been a threat to us and the earth since we entered the modern cyber age. With many great technologies that are invented, we may as well use them to stop pollution. As a person who cares, I really love my home planet. It grieves me to see pollution destroying it. That is why we

must be all for one and one for all help to save the earth so future generations may breathe in clean air and live healthy lives. Yes, I am a global citizen. Let’s act together. Written by, Shannen Marcus Ngau SMK Baru Bintulu

What is Global citizenship? This is what I want to know since I heard that phrase .At last, I found that Global citizenship is the concept of citizenship on a global level. It is a moral and ethical disposition which might guide the understanding of individual or groups of local and global contexts and their relative responsibilities within different communities. It is distinct from the concept of world citizenship. As a part of global citizen I have to adhere with a global citizenship to preserve the earth from being destroyed. As a global citizen ,we need to conserve our mother earth as things like hectic climate change, polluted environment , acid rain, depletion of the ozone layer, and global warming, are increasing. The air is the most polluted among the other type of pollution . It is filed with poisonous gases produced from two main sources ,vehicles and factories .Carbon monoxide released from the exhaust pipes of vehicles infiltrate the air, making it dirty. Factories also contribute to the release poisonous gases into the air .Air pollution is worsened by the impact of forest fires. If the situation continues to persist ,all living things will suffer from the lack of fresh air. Water is precious, yet the rivers , lakes , seas , and oceans are not spared from the harming effects of pollution. Many industrial factories ,in order to save costs, release wastes into the river and seas. Sometimes. vessels or ship spill oil into the seas too. As a result , the sea becomes so polluted that many marine life die or are forced to dwindle in numbers . Human activities also have a hand in polluting water. The sea treated as a dumping ground as people conveniently dispose of their rubbish into the water. . Many people might not realize that they are part of a global community and pollute the land by their irresponsible actions. Many a time , people throw their litter to the ground although rubbish bins are provided in public places As a result, unsightly litter appear on the streets , roads beaches, and parks. As more rubbish accumulate , the environment becomes dirty and polluted. Everyone feels no longer healthy anymore . The land than becomes a perfect breeding ground for rodents such as rats .

Imagine this, one day you come out from your house and all you see is big puffs of black smoke and no trees! All you hear are cars and no birds! All you smell is gasoline and no flowers! What kind of life is that? In a search of solution, I surfed the web to know more about the global and I found that all we need to do to reduce the pollutions is simply to be less wasteful. Here are some ideas on how to help everyone. Switch off anything that uses electricity whenever possible is one of the best way to preserve the earth I feel great that I have participated in “Earth Hour2009 by switching off al the electricity supplies in my house : a small part that I can give as a global citizen. Using renewable energy sources is one of the best way to preserve the earth .In the process of producing electricity fossil fuels are burned .This causes green-house effects and pollution in the environment as burning coal or other fuels emits green-house gases .If we use renewable energy as the primary power source, the reduction of pollution per household would be equivalent to that of planting 400 trees. Use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable batteries. Batteries not only take up landfill space ,but they can leak acid into the Earth and they can't be incinerated. Even then, only use the appliance when you must. If you have the choice, plug in the device instead of using batteries.. Don't use pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals. Pesticides kill hundreds of birds and other animals per year. If you have unwanted weeds, pull or hoe them out yourself, clip them down, plant a ground cover in their place, or use mulch to control weeds and limit evaporation. Other than that, Reuse glass bottles and use it for a long time!

Stop reading newspapers if you can look up the news on your computer, it takes up less energy than cutting down the trees, making the paper, and transporting it to your house. Plant a tree in your neighborhood or near your home; They suck up harmful CO2 gases. If you can't plant one, try potted plants. In this way, I have planted many potted flowering plants in my balcony .This enables me to get fresh air and smell the nice smell of it whenever I want.

Nowadays government is organizing many campaigns to make awareness about the environment. I agree that we should always give the kind of support to our leaders A campaign will not be effective if the people are not motivated to participate actively in it . However , I feel that organizing campaigns an coming up with policies will only be effective if education is also included. I believe many people do not understand the importance behind reducing wastage , and the consequences of allowing resources to be wasted .As such ,public awareness ought to be created . In this way when a campaign is implemented, more people would participate as they would have understood the reasons behind such a campaign movement.

No man is an island .Individual is unable to survive without the help of others because we all live in a global community, and not as single entities Therefore it is important that, we as global citizens , must co-operate with the government policies to preserve the earth from being destroyed.

Finally ,we as the global citizens, have to care for the nature and the mother earth .If everyone think that they are global citizens , the earth will be a miserable place to live in. All the natural and man-made resources will eventually be used up by human activities ,resulting in suffering and misery in humankind. As A.Samad said “Our land is so rich. Why should we suffer like this “.So, let’s keep our environment clean and green.

I’M A GLOBAL CITIZEN Extreme Weather : My Roles and Responsiblities In Helping the World We all live at the mercy of the weather. It affects every aspect of our lives, from minor decisions, such as whether to wear a raincoat when we go out, to vitally important issues , such as whether crops flourish or fail. This article will touch on the cause and effects of extreme weather and how I as a global citizen can help to minimize the bad effects of human making activities in the weather harmful. For most of the time, the weather follows mor or less anticipates seasonal patterns, but occassionally its behaviour goes beyond the everyday and becomes extraordinary. It is during these extremes that the weather demostrate its raw power- and our powerless to control it. Extremes weather usually means destructive weather-hurricanes and tornadoes, floods and blizzards, heatwaves and drought can all bring death and disaster in their wake. Yet, despite its devastating power, the weather also provides a stunning and constantly changing show that we can only wonder at- sunlight bursting through clouds, blazing lighting and crashing thunder, multi-hued skies and rainbows, giant hailstones and gentle rains. Extremes weather events has been steadily increasing in recent decades, with weather records being broken almost every month. Some scientists believe that this is a direct consequence of global warming. No one know exactly how the climate will change over the coming century, but most scientists agree that the world is going to carry on heating up. If the last decades is a reliable guide to go by, the Earth’s weather is likely to become even more extremes. The earth’s climate may have followed a natural cycle of freeze and thaw over millions of years, but when attempting to predict future climate change, a relatively new phenomenon has to be taken into account: mankind. The presence of humans on the planet has had huge impact on the environment, and one of the most pressing concerns is the effect that man-made atmospheric pollution is having on the Earth’s temperature. Over the past 100 years or so, the average temperature has been rising at an unprecedented rate and it is no coincidence that this corresponds with the industrialisation of many countries. So what can we do to minimize the extreme weather? First of all, we should not throw the rubbish everywhere. It makes the place dirty and cause pollution. Plants also a part of nature. Plants can help to reduce the increases of climates. Therefore, we need to protect them by replanting the trees. We must take action to the people who have done the illegal logging. If we do not protect the jungle, one day, many of these plants will no longer found in Earth. Last but not least, we need to keep our rivers and surroundings clean. We must stopped the factory polluting the water by throwing waste and toxic into the waterways. We need clean water to survive. Dirty surroundings will also affect our health. So let’s start by making sure that we keep the surroundings clean and free of pollution. In conclusion, I as a global citizen would like to say once again that we need to protect our environment and keep it safe for the future generations. Let us remember that is our duty. I hope that our beloved Earth will be more safer in the future generations. Written by,
